My favourite foundation was discontinued a few years back, so I stopped wearing it and focused on my skin. I have a few events coming up and was wondering if anybody had any suggestions?

Il Makiage all the way. I thought it was a Facebook con at first but honestly it's brilliant. The shade picker isn't 100% reliable but you can return if you try it and find it's not the right shade for you.
It's expensive but you only need a little so a bottle lasts ages - and it's 15% off if you do the recurring order.
They send full-sized gifts with the recurring order, I've had two eyeliners, a lip stain and a lipliner, all of which have been really good quality too.
I treated myself to the primer at Christmas - it's better than my regular one so I'll probably switch to that now as well.

NARs all the way! Their makeup products overall work very well with Black skin - their shades and tones suit and complement our skin to a T. I use their cream concealer for areas I have slight discolouration. I would advise against Fenty as last time I bought it (granted when it was initially launched) I spent around £40 to end up looking oompa loompa-ish by late morning but again their bronzers are fabulous. If you don't use that much foundation and can afford to part with £50+ for make up I can't recommend pretty much everything by Pat McGrath enough!

Estée Lauder double wear is my go too foundation, I feel it suits all skin types. A little pricey but I think it's worth it!

It funny my favourite used to be their Perfectionist and it was just perfect. I always love Double Wear on everyone else. My Mum has used it for years and it looks fabulous but it makes me look like a zombie and I’ve tried the same shade and others. So unfair.

I wear Charlotte Tilbury foundation and finish powder, it makes my skin look super smooth and youthful. I have acne blemishes all over my face so it helps cover those up.

MCOut · 15/02/2024 19:24

I’m going to go to all these counters on Saturday. Il Makiage looks quite full coverage and I don’t really need that but intrigued by the 60 day policy.

I love Il Makiage. Got their concealer and primer which I love and lots of freebies sent. The first foundation match was too dark but the replacement was perfect. E L Double Wear was too mask-like for me.

Hourglass

Laura geller concealer and Charlotte tilbury powder - Nara orgasm blush. Best combo I've ever had

I use L'Oreal True Match which has these lovely (tiny) gold particles which gives me a nice healthy glow despite the foundation suiting my oily skin. They have a great colour range too, from memory I think it's about 40 different colours and loads to suit Black skin tones.

Giorgio Armani luminous silk foundation. Absolutely fantastic and a little goes a long way. Really like their primer as well. Concealers are also excellent.

Been a long time Nars foundation wearer as well, but I find it can transfer but good if you need more coverage. Eye pallettes are always good.

Would avoid Tom Hardy foundation, horrible smell, texture and pebbles.

user50and · 16/02/2024 21:16

Bought Dior Forever Skin Glow today as it looks amazing on my same age cousin, have changed from Charlotte Tilbury so will see how it goes..

Tom Ford not Tom Hardy , 😅

I'm finding Fenty works best for me at the moment. I like my foundation to look matte not oily and it lasts all day while still making my skin look hydrated. The colour range is really good and I don't get a lot of transfer onto my clothes.

Moonshine5 · 17/02/2024 20:08

Seriously L'Oréal Paris infallible and I've got Nars and Il Makiage. I genuinely think it's about the tone.

MCOut · 17/02/2024 22:25

@Starterlocs I’m coming to the conclusion that I’m ridiculous. It turns out I have a full bottle of the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk. It is four years old though so I’m going to re-buy. I’ve been in a few bridal parties and this is what they tend to use and it always looks amazing but they mix colours and forget that.

@user50and I have a bottle of this too, but it was the wrong colour, I didn’t check it properly and natural light before I bought it. Let me know how it goes.

I’m also going to try the Nars. Thank you everybody!

@MCOut well that makes life easier! I mix mine too - shade 8 & 9, concealer 8.75. works a treat.

I ended up buying two as well 8.75 and 10 and I’m loving it. It was weird 9 just didn’t look nice.
