TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 11/02/2024 10:57

I haven't see the trailer but partner says he wants to watch it so we may get to it within the next week or so.

Dontjudgeme101 · 11/02/2024 15:29

Yes, l am going on Friday to see it with my dh and dd.

LadyKenya · 11/02/2024 19:25

Yes, I am really looking forward to it. The trailer looks so good. I must confess to being (one of those)🤔 who felt that it would have been nice if someone of Jamaican heritage had played the part. But seeing the trailer, it looks to me like the man playing Bob has done a fab job.

Maggiethecat · 11/02/2024 19:52

I agree @LadyKenya, it would have been nice if a Jamaican had bagged that role but I will be happy if the actor does reasonably capture Bob’s spirit.
There’s been talk about a family member playing him but Ziggy and family will have known if any was up to the role. I don’t think that proximity alone is enough to step into the role.

I agree @Maggiethecat The fact that the Marley family was heavily involved with the whole project is enough for me. 😁

MCOut · 11/02/2024 20:21

Yes! I’m excited to see it. I’ve loved the interview so far with him and Lashana Lynch. It sounds like they had a good experience, and it’s nice knowing that it’s been so respectfully made

LadyKenya · 11/02/2024 20:26

I am hoping to go next Saturday, I will come back with my review!

Maggiethecat · 11/02/2024 21:17

Will report back too! I hope I can enjoy without being too critical of accents; from the trailer Kingsley’s seems ok, not cringeworthy.

The trailer looks good, so am going to see it.

Turmerictolly · 11/02/2024 22:43

Reviews aren't that good.

Reviews aren't that good.

Really? Makes no odds to me tbh. I never tend to take any notice of what the critics say anyway. If I recall correctly, they were not too favorable about the film Yardie, which I thought was good.

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 12/02/2024 09:53

My man has now decided he doesn't want to see it because none of the lead roles are played by Jamaicans (he's a born and bred Kingstonian) and that people (Jamaican entertainment forums) are all saying the same.
Since he is the one who geared me up for watching it, I've told him we are still going to the movies to watch.

So any feedback welcome if anyone watches it this week.

MCOut · 12/02/2024 10:30

Lashana Lynch is of Jamaican descent I think.

Maggiethecat · 12/02/2024 11:35

@MCOut - that might not be enough for some Jamaicans! Need to have been born and raised in Jamrock it seems!

It’s getting a bit ridiculous to be honest. First, it was your parents who had to be born there. Then it was you who had to be born there.

Now it’s you had to be born there and have all your schooling there to be Jamaican and if you don’t meet that criteria we’re going to boycott you?! But yet I bet will be happy to sit down and watch every hollywood movie going

LadyKenya · 12/02/2024 13:32

I can understand why some people would be put out that it is not someone with Jamaican heritage playing the lead part, I do not know about the other lead roles. It would be a shame not to go and see the film because of that though. But I suppose if someone feels that strongly about it, they will not.

Maggiethecat · 12/02/2024 13:55

I totally get the sentiment of wanting to see a Jamaican play the lead role in particular and the greater the proximity to ‘yard’ the better.
We hold Bob dear but I don’t feel that only a Jamaican could do justice to the portrayal.
Will look out for the actor who played Bob’s art director Neville Garrick and who was in Yardie, which I’ve not seen.
I’ll probably measure up if he could have led.

Following also! It's quite a long film! Don't think DS would manage to sit through it and he's only 9! May be too mature for him anyone else taking their DC to see it?

ToddlerMumma · 14/02/2024 16:42

Me and (Jamaican) DH watched it today. It's excellent. It made DH homesick. Bob Marley was the epitome of cool

User19798 · 14/02/2024 16:50

I will watch it, for sure, but the casting seems very off to me.

Maggiethecat · 14/02/2024 17:41

@User19798 - how so?

Maggiethecat · 14/02/2024 22:36

Well! Just saw it and I enjoyed it on so many levels. Kingsley played a very good portrayal of Bob, the musician and the man - his passion, sensitivity, humour. I was pleasantly surprised that he was able to pull the accent off, not just the patios but the cadence. I could almost believe he was Jamaican.
Loved Lashana too, her accent wasn’t great but her acting was - she brought me to tears in some scenes.
I loved the portrayal of their relationship and I reckon that Lashana had some one to one sessions with Rita 😂
There was some artistic licence going on but I guess no biopic is without a bit of fiction.
Highly recommend!
