I need an executive coach. My ADHD is starting to negatively affect my life so much that I am mess. I would really like to be coached by a black woman. Can anyone recommend an executive coach who specialises in working with people who have ADHD? TIA.

I'm sorry to hear. It's rather rubbish living like this. I have a great work opportunity coming up but I'm scared to take it because know it will be tough with the ADHD. I just want the same opportunities as everyone else.

@Aitseh4

I honestly think you should take the opportunity - you're taking the steps to get support, don't count yourself out.

I never realised how much of an impact it had on me until I became a mother and realised there are some things I just find so so hard. I just spent all my time beating myself up before. I've found getting the balance even sustaining friendships impossible if I'm being honest.

Aitseh4 · 11/02/2024 23:44

It's so exhausting bouncy. I know exactly what you mean about sustaining friendships. I need to return a really nice supportive voicemail a friend left early last week. Being a mum is also tough. I could be a good mum, and acceptable employee or have an ok house. There was no way I could do three even passably. I thought I picked good mum, my kids would say I picked passable employee...

I think I am going to try for the opportunity but know I will need some help getting through the interview. My short term memory and confidence are both rubbish.

It's so so hard. I have been lucky enough to not work since having my child - in part brought on by Covid - She's almost 4 and I'll need to create a sustainable solution soon. I do not know how I'll cope.

I asked for reasonable adjustments at a successful interview and they allowed me to take notes so I wouldn't lose my way when answering and also a printed copy of the questions so I could refer back to them. It helped me a LOT.

I've also noticed great improvements when I avoid sugar and increase my physical activity - none of which I've been able to even try to introduce because I am so overloaded with mothering.

I look at people who do it all and I wonder how they even get out of bed when I often can't reply to a text- to people I want to speak to!

I’m a bit late to party here but there's a chance I could help if you're still looking for someone. I'm a coach (accredited etc) and work with neurodivergent people (although I'm white) but I might be able to recommend a colleague if you're still on the hunt someone ☺️... drop me a message if you are, this is me:

Can anyone recommend a Black person to diagnose ADHD? I contacted the recommended person on the ADHD Babes practitioner list but I haven’t heard back from her yet.

Aitseh4 · 07/04/2024 12:52

Thank you for all the suggestions on this thread.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend anyone to diagnose. I obtained my diagnosis from Psychiatry UK. It was a very thorough assessment and upsetting at points.

Thanks @Aitseh4, I'm just seeing your response now. May ask how much the diagnosis / assessment cost?

JamSandle · 17/04/2024 14:35

Unfortunately not. I think it's quite underdiagnosed in the black community. I hope you find something!
