Hello,
Can anyone recommend where to go for a family holiday over the May half term or in August? I'm thinking Turkey or Canary Islands. Kids are 7,9,12.
Where have you felt comfortable with your children?

Thanks

White MNer here (black dh and kids). We have never had any issues in Turkey but did in Greece and the Canary Islands.

Menorca is really relaxed and welcoming never had an issue there. Sicily was ok but some under currents. Greek Islands always been absolutely fine.

Dubai and the Caribbean are good places with plenty activities for those ages.

I'm black and we've never had any issues in Turkey, Greece, Cyprus, or Spain. Cornwall in the UK however is a whole other story...

What happened? As me and partner have had some bad experiences in coastal towns when we went for holiday

We used to go to Cyprus, Greece, some Spanish islands, Morocco, Tunisia or further out to the Caribbean and US when we were growing up (black family with children and teenagers)

I had lots of randoms wanting to take my picture when in Greece (think it was Rhodes but can't remember and was years ago).

I have always avoided Turkey as I thought there would be issues so find the comments about Turkey interesting/positive.

That being said, I found travelling with family different to travelling with friends (girls/young women). As a group of women we also had strangers asking to take our pictures in places like Ibiza and Greece but they tended to be German and Russian tourists rather than locals

@choochoomama what do you want from your holiday OP? Turkey is a big place there's a Facebook group called "Best hotels in Turkey". I travel as a single parent just me and DC. I've stated in Magic life Masmavi in Belek in Turkey excellent sports and entertainment for kids and adults, on the beach hotel. I've booked Paloma Orenda in Side in Turkey for May this year.

I've been to quite a lot of places and found people helpful and nice. No issues.

@sunshineandshowers40

I had random people wanted to take photos of my DD's when they were little in both Greece and Spain ... they are blonde haired, blue eyed and white ... its odd whatever your ethnicity but obviously not to them (also wanting to twiddle their curly hair, so weird) was years ago now. I also found we were really stared at, I do think we can read more into it than we should. Just thought I'd share that it's not just people of colour that can feel uncomfortable abroad.
