Hi,

I have some A/L and krakow is looking like a cheap holiday. However, i'm just wondering if any black Mumsnetters have been as my old nail tech was polish and she had a mixed-race daughter and she said she never took her home as her experiences were not good. I'll also be solo travelling.

thanks

Go elsewhere.

DeeCeeCherry · 17/01/2024 15:49

I wouldn't go

DojaPhat · 20/01/2024 14:24

I wouldn't go given there are soooo many other places you could use a few days of annual leave for a quick cheap break in Europe. Focus on capital cities though!

Stockholm is fab! Have a great time!

I’m brown not black, but yeah, I didn’t feel safe in Krakow which is a shame as its lovely.

I now live in Stockholm, I’ve only lived here since August, but I’m yet to experience any racism. Its also very safe at night time, so getting from A-B is fine.

I went to Krakow at 14 on a history trip. We were visiting Auschwitz. Felt very uncomfortable there. Would never return.

BuffyTheVodkaDrinker · 15/04/2024 08:53

My experience is very different, I went to Krakow in 2009 with my sister (we're both black) and her husband (who is white and from there). We had an amazing time, didn't experience any racism, in fact people were happy to talk to us, but it could be due to us being with her husband.

I've always wanted to go back but haven't yet.

Avoid!

MotherofRatios
Really really really don't bother
My youngest did a gap year thingy around Europe
And she said they were alongside the Bulgarians some of the consistently worse openly racist peoples she's ever met
Her friend she travelled with was darker than her and sometimes got spat at as she went about her business
And grown men/young boys would try to square up to them constantly
As the women would openly stand there laughing at how "black and ugly" they were
Worse 3 days of their lives so far I've often being told
Considering how many of them were here in the UK when they started coming over; even I've had to hold my ground and face off an ignorant russian or too!
I didn't vote for it but the only thing good to come out of brexit was their absolute shock at realising their white skins weren't going to save them
I could go on but
Don't do it to yourself; you deserve better!
And don't bother with Greece and some parts of Turkey are better than others I've being told too
