Hey 👋🏾 we're looking leave south east London to buy a house in Chelmsford . Would you say it's diverse and accepting . We would still be working in London and hoping DC settle in well and not singled out. Thanks in advance

I live further North of Chelmsford (feel free to PM if you want to know where, it's relatively diverse) but do go into Chelmsford's main centre from time to time because I like to go to buy something specific only that Boots sell.

Whilst I do see some diversity in the center of Chelmsford, it doesn't feel comfortable to me in the slightest. Have a look at statistics on StreetCheck and also have a day/weekend visit to have a look around.

UndercoverCop · 17/09/2023 00:13

Chelmsford isn't particularly diverse, the only parts of Essex that are, are the bits bordering London and some of them are not very nice at all, high crime rates loss of deprivation etc eg Thurrock, some a bit nicer but pricey Epping, Loughton etc.

Which part of Chelmsford are you moving to? Some areas are nice, others are really rough. I worked there for a number of years and still live relatively close by. The shopping is decent for high street shopping

Furryrug · 17/09/2023 00:15

I live in Chelmsford and I'd say it's pretty diverse.

We did suspect it would be less diverse than south east London but remaining hopeful. We are looking at Melbourne, close to Newlands Spring primary school.

That's really reassuring thank you 🙏🏾

I work in criminal justice in Essex and I wouldn't move my family to Melbourne if you paid me, it's one of the roughest parts of Chelmsford. Drugs, lots of crime, highest rate of gang activity in Essex.

Oh really that's disturbing. We're looking at Newlands Spring and under the impression it's reasonable? The nearest primary is rated Outstanding.

I can't comment on the primary school, but the area I wouldn't go near. You're better off living outside of Chelmsford centre.

Is the prison in the Melbourne area?

Why am I seeing this thread in Active when I opted out of the Black Mumsnetters topic months if not years ago @MNHQ?

Hi,
Moving to Chlmesford for job. Any suggestion for ethinic diverse secondary school. Also my daughter is in Y9. Is it a good time to move her. Is Molsham a good area to live?

Edited

No

Krampers · 23/09/2023 10:47

No where is certain outside of major cities for ethnic diversity. I was concerned about where I live now before moving but in the end went for lifestyle/low crime/good schools/good aesthetic but these areas are always expensive. On the plus side you do see more mixed families moving here.

Hayzee101 · 27/12/2023 11:39

Hi everyone, it's my first tike here. I'm really confused with my moving decision making.
I am planning to move my family of 5 from London to either of this places to start their secondary school education. Chelmsford, Rochester, Dartford or Tunbridge Wells.
My major priorities are:
1. Quality education
2. Safe and friendly environment
3. Mosque
4. Good transportation links to London

Your feedback, comments and suggestions will be appreciated.

Mummovingcrazy · 18/06/2024 11:55

@UndercoverCop - We're considering of moving to Chignal road. Daughter will be taking C2 Bus from St Andrews church to grammer school. Is Chignal raod area good and would it be affected by Melboune avenue ? Is drugs etc are more around shops in Melboune Avenue ? Please help! we're not sure if we've to consider Chignal road.

Mummovingcrazy · 18/06/2024 12:34

Which streets in Melboune Chelmsford we should avoid ? is it unsafe during football matches time ?

UndercoverCop · 18/06/2024 18:21

@Mummovingcrazy There's not a big football club in Chelmsford so that doesn't make any difference, the crime is focussed on gang activity, knife crime, drug supply. Albeit you get all the usual too, especially in that area, burglaries, anti social behaviour etc.
I would not be choosing to live anywhere near Melbourne area, including Chignal road
