Just hearing this now on the radio.

The Palace hasn't disputed it.

www.lbc.co.uk/news/queen-consort-camilla-buckingham-palace-women-violence-guest-racial-heritage/

A member of the Buckingham Palace household has resigned and apologised after the 'unacceptable and regrettable comments' made at the Queen Consort's reception.

It comes after a guest at a Buckingham Palace event on violence against women hosted by the Queen Consort complained she was asked several questions about her racial heritage that she found “insulting.”

Ngozi Fulani, CEO of Hackney Charity Sistah Space, a group that supports African and Caribbean women affected by domestic and sexual abuse, said she had suffered “trauma” and “damage” after being “invited and then insulted” to the event.

She said a member of Palace staff moved her hair out of the way of her name badge before asking her questions about her heritage that left her “shocked”.

She said two other women who overheard the exchange were also “stunned to temporary silence.”

She said: “10 mins after arriving, a member of staff approached me, moved my hair to see my name badge.”

It’s disgusting and reading it made my toes curl. Susan Hussey reminds me of some bizarre Majorie Dawes character. Bigoted woman. Sadly there will still be lots like her, never quite believing that a black person can actually be truly British.

RedWingBoots · 30/11/2022 13:54

No sorry it isn't her they were going to get her. Trust me not to being paying attention properly when working.

MintChocCornetto · 30/11/2022 13:58

That's gross behaviour.

Well done to that lady for complaining. Horrible to be treated like that, questioned like she didn't belong and made to feel unwelcome.

This was disgusting - Sistah Space tweeted about it this morning here:

twitter.com/Sistah_Space/status/1597854380115767296

A couple of the responses describe other examples of the same palace behaviour.

But William says there is no problem with racism in teh Royal Family, so that's nice.

Delectable · 01/12/2022 13:31

No racism in the RF. Meg made it up and Harry who served in the military is so paranoid he left his country and one of the most powerful, influencial and wealthiest royal families to live as a foreigner and actually need to work to earn a living.

Starseeking · 01/12/2022 22:57

The whole thing is disgusting. Until a person has experienced being othered in this way, I don't think they can ever understand.

I mentioned to a white colleague how offensive a question this type of thing is a while ago. She said she's genuinely interested in finding out about people, ergo it is not offensive. My colleague's need to be inquisitive (and centre herself, as is the norm) trumped the need to be sensitive to non-white others.

There's another thread sort of related to the same topic asking if Britain is a racist country.

In relation to the experience of the lady from Sistah Space, sone of the more laughable comments include those who say:

  • she brought it on herself
  • she was looking to be offended
  • she rudely refused to answer properly
  • she caused the Royal to interrogate her

You couldn't make this up!

RedWingBoots · 02/12/2022 05:40

My colleague's need to be inquisitive (and centre herself, as is the norm) trumped the need to be sensitive to non-white others.

You need to go up and touch her hair (for no reason), then interrogate her in the same style.

@KiwiMum2023

i’ve been seeing this online. I would not say she is culturally appropriating. She is from the Caribbean (?) and is of African origin. Someone can correct me if i am wrong but if you are a Black Caribbean then your ethnic make up or origin will be from Africa. Don’t get me wrong of course there could well be other mixes in there too. Many Jamaicans actually adopt Ghanaian names because they feel connected to Ghana…Kwame Kwei Armah being one of them!

I dont see how this whole incident is being turned on this woman! She is the one who experienced the traumatic. She has every right to dress and look how she wants without interrogation. As for her hair, if they are her natural loc then without manipulation many Black people’s hair would look just like hers . Again she can dress and wear her hair any how she wants and should still be able to say her nationality is British without question.

Tell me you've never read a history book without telling me you've never read a history book 🙄

There are a couple of threads here that are pages long excusing racism and blaming the victim. I'm quite sure you'll be well received and more comfortable with the like minded folks over there

Starseeking · 03/12/2022 15:39

I don't see how this whole incident is being turned in this woman!

@explain

It's standard procedure for Black people who dare to mention being a victim of racism. THEY are the problem, NOT the racist.

I've seen online hate sympathising with the poor little old lady who meant no harm, and is now the victim herself, and how awful this Black woman has made her feel...yet no-one made those words come out of her mouth, no-one told her to keep interrogating to the point of serious discomfort, YET SHE KEPT GOING.

Poor little old lady my arse. She knew exactly what she was doing. Should have been sacked instead of being allowed to resign.

RedWingBoots · 03/12/2022 17:28

I dont see how this whole incident is being turned on this woman!

The people excusing the rude, entitled and racist behaved old white woman are doing it because they behave like that.

Note who they are as that's your pre-warning.

I am.not angry any more. just sad really. And it's going to get even bigger. If we really a year or so ago, the charity fought to keep is doors open where they are now. We talked about it here. I can believe how racist have made them lock up. I have a horrible feeling that I can't voice right now but I hope she is ok and the charity continues to work.

Reugny · 11/12/2022 17:16

"..black people and their families so rarely choose to speak publicly about their personal experiences of racism. This reticence stems from the knowledge that there is always a price to be paid for doing so."

To quote an opinion from a famous British historian and documentary maker.

Very interesting reading, possibly enlightening for some.

WTAF was that?Xmas Shock

Why would your first reaction to hearing of racism be to investigate the victim?Xmas Hmm
Why would your next reaction be to post paragraph after paragraph of nonsensical shite on twitter?Xmas Confused

Cheers for the heads up on what the fuckTwits are saying @ForeverFaithless.

SueVineer · 12/12/2022 08:09

It’s not the necessarily the first response to investigate the “victim” but when there are so many glaring red flags, why would we ignore them? Seems like quite valid allegations of cultural appropriation as well as grifting and possible fraud.

HaveYouSeenNancy · 12/12/2022 08:18

She was given a lot of publicity (Jeremy Vine's radio 2 show, Good Morning Britain). I think that a deep dive into Sistah Space charity's accounts was a fairly obvious follow up. It's a shame.

It's sad how desperate he is to discredit this charity.

TooBigForMyBoots · 12/12/2022 09:59

Men hate strong women who work to make women's lives better. Being the victim of racism isn't a red flag.

HaveYouSeenNancy · 12/12/2022 10:04

Has anyone else read the twitter thread? Do you think Ngozi Fulani will respond with an accusation of libel? They have accused her of defrauding the government grant systems of hundreds of thousands over the past couple of years to pay herself a salary and expenses of £245,000. She has to respond surely?

Yep, with too many people willing to accept it all with no proof whatsoever.
