I think it's a good thing that we have a more diverse government. Whether or not Rishi is any good on a personal level we will have to wait and see. My fingers are crossed.

I'm afraid this is my feeling too.

Two feelings:
I'm pleased to have an Asian PM.
But not that it's him.

He will do nothing for diversity. Nothing. Like Pate he uses his proximity to whiteness to alienate his people. The most dangerous of rhetoric. Awful

If people don't like his personality or politics and don't trust him, how is his ethnicity at all relevant?

It's ridiculous to be pleased to have a Prime Minister with a particular skin colour!

Report
RedWingBoots · 26/10/2022 20:35

His ethnicity shows if you have enough money to send your child to the right schools, they are intelligent and they work twice as hard they may get where they want to in Britain.

Report
Circumferences · 26/10/2022 20:37

He's a pillock.
His skin colour is irrelevant.

Meowsaidthecat · 26/10/2022 20:40

Isn't this a bit racist? 😂

He's still a prick regardless.

Report
Curta · 26/10/2022 20:46

It's definitely racist.

People would be up in arms if the opposite were stated e.g. 'I'm really pleased it's a white person!' without judgement of character or political worth.

He's not representative of most people, let alone British Asians, although he might just have brought in the most socialist policies the government have made in years.

Report

We realise and it's still racist to prefer a particular skin colour without merit.

If someone comes from the belief that others who belong to other races (different from themselves) are not as good/intelligent/moral/worthy of being listened to as people who belong to their own race, they can be described as racist.

If a person is prejudiced, discriminatory or antagonistic towards others of a race different from their own, they can be accurately escribed as racist.

There is an implication of perceived superiority in online anonymous posts by those who think others don't know which forum they're posting on and shouldn't have a say on the British Prime Minister based on their skin colour!

Regardless of our/your ethnicity it is exciting because it is another barrier broken. Being a PM is no longer the sole domain of white people. Progress people! (We hope).

Agreed. People keep saying Whittome would be better but despite being a Labour MP, she’s still a private school, RG educated MP.
