Folks if your kid does well in life and decides to be a politician, dissuade them from taking one of the great offices of state as while they will be attacked for being black as a back bencher they will be attacked even more for holding one of the great offices of state.

@RedWingBoots - far too cryptic! Does this have anything to do with the new chancellor?

inheritanceshiteagain · 23/09/2022 18:34

That's a horrible racist thing to say. He's British and he's the chancellor. Don't know about him being attacked as a backbencher? I get why he's done what he's done but I think it's a massive gamble.

FridayiminlovewithRobertSmith · 23/09/2022 20:22

Um? What? Do you mean Kwasei Kwartang? Todays Budget is economically illiterate and being critiqued on the basis of evidence and theory by credible economists (and the markets - look what’s happened to the value of the pound). I don’t think it’s racist or personal.

Diane Abbot on the other hand. I don’t agree with all her politics but she has been subject to grotesque racism. Not linked to her skills or judgement. Just racism. So I agree from that perspective I agree you couldn’t pay me to have that kind of public profile. Or wish it on my children.

RedWingBoots · 24/09/2022 09:24

You all guessed correctly it was the chancellor but you may have not realised that not all the attacks were on his policies.

And you must be thick or ignorant if you don't realise that particular venom is reserved for black politicians especially female ones.

I did see something today about him grinning and fidgeting while he was at the royal funeral. Looked very odd, but I'd love to know what was going on. Was really odd!

I saw this too.

Doubtmyself · 26/09/2022 22:26

Kwasi is a good example how our right wing press will call off the attack dogs - as long as its a man, even a black man, who must speak like 'them', act like 'them', go to school with 'them', Marry a nice blonde from Cheltenham Ladies' College, like them- they'll lay off you.

By them I mean red cheeked hard right/far right like Jacob et al..., but God help him if he turns against 'them' like Rishi.

Even with market turmoil, the Daily Mail, Express and Times and Telegraph aren't crucifying him....

friendlycat · 26/09/2022 22:40

Sorry but I think this is ridiculous. He’s the chancellor of the exchequer and of course his economic plans are being questioned as is The Prime Minister’s judgement.

The pound is sinking and there are serious consequences of this that are going to have to be addressed.

What the country, and financial markets, care about is competence and a steady hand at the tiller. This was launched as a mini budget and it’s so far removed from mini adjustments that of course there’s intense scrutiny of the plans as they literally are going to affect everyone in the country one way or another.

I think it’s a great shame that Sunac isn’t still in post. I could not care less about whether our chancellor is black, grey or purple. I just want them to be competent.

been and done it. · 27/09/2022 00:58

I popped on here to have a read and to be honest it was just as I had expected it would be which is really sad and disappointing. It's always the race card pulled if someone makes a derogatory possibly valid remark.
No-one had more shit thrown at him than BJ- deserved or not.
I could say more about the specific politicians but what's the point. It's always going to be a race thing.

takemetomybeach · 27/09/2022 01:46

He is a shit chancellor and does not understand the most basic of economic principles required to manage the budget of a small business, let alone a country.

Couldn't give a fuck if he was lime Green. He'd still be a shit chancellor.

Westfacing · 27/09/2022 01:59

I'd dissuade them from joining a party where to succeed as a Black person you have to be far to the right.

I agree that of course in a country like the UK its harder to be black than white in any high profile role, I see it in my own job. Mistakes and errors are highlighted and successes played down.

But with Kwartang , there has been no real criticism by large portions of the press, take a look at today's front cover of The Sun, The Daily Mail, The Express, they're all rallying around him.

Criticism of Kwartang on racial grounds as been muted precisily because the usual suspects who pile on racial tinged criticism are flag waving Tories who love the far right polices of Kwartang and Truss.

It was the same with Boris, when even his own MP's were turning against his incompetance, the right wing press were still singing his praises.

lannistunut · 27/09/2022 08:31

I completely agree black politicians get huge amounts of abuse. However the economic criticism of Kwarteng's policies is justified, the choices he has made (in conjunction with Truss) are absolutely shit.

I'm not black, would it be ok to leave a thought on this thread? I am so incensed about Rupa Huq's comments. Horrified and disgusted. Such a fucked up, nasty dehumanising, racist, bigotted and fucking dumb thing to say. I am horrified that to be Labour seems to mean that you can say any sexist or openly racist slur and get away with it because you are allegedly promoting kinder policies. I wouldn't trust Labour with MPs like that. 😡😡😡

Oh come off it. The ex PM Boris has been saying racist and sexist comments forever and got away with it, because the right wing have told us we(blacks) are playing the race card or victim card, or whatever bollocks to gloss it over.....

She's been thrown out the fucking party, she hardly 'getting away with it' is she?

wightwine · 27/09/2022 22:19

I think that Kwasi Kwarteng and Rishi Sunak have had an easy ride into the higher echelons of the conservative party because they both went to super posh schools, oxbridge and then had jobs in the city. they aren't embarassing/low class or desperate, like other non white people might be, to prove themselves 'acceptable' (shaun bailey).

KK wrote a book, with other right wing tories, claiming that Britsh workers are lazy and need to be made to work for much lower wages. I think that he is offering an economic package that will line the pockets of the rich at the expense of the rest of us. He and the tories don't care if they destroy the country, they expect to get paid and that's all that counts.

KK is getting an easy ride, as a black politician, in comparison to Diane Abbott, but this is probably down to the right wing press.

red4321 · 28/09/2022 06:28

I'm a Conservative voter but I'm afraid that Kwarteng deserves the criticism over his fiscal statement.

The pound hit its lowest level against the dollar since 1971 and mortgage providers have suspended their new products, Inflation is at 10% and the Bank of England is going to have to intervene with an emergency rate rise.

I support the idea of tax cuts but this wasn't the time to take on billions of pounds of extra public debt, on top of the whopping pile we already have. Even my A level economics taught me that principle. So yes, I think the criticism is entirely justified of both him and Truss.

I hope you were just as incensed and horrified at all the racist and sexist things our former PM and several members of his party said. It's astonishing how many posters on Mumsnet have only discovered the horrors of racism since Huq's comments but were happy to dismiss the abuse Diane Abbott suffered for years...

sassytail · 28/09/2022 17:53

Kwasi Kwarteng doesn't deserve the disgusting, racist comment from Rupa Huq or from anyone else and the shit that Diane Abbott has had to put up with for years is vile. Regardless of Kwarteng's colour, he absolutely deserves to be criticised for his shitty mini-budget. He has made some awful decisions and has thrown the country into a panic. I don't like Truss either.

debbrianna · 28/09/2022 18:18

It's amazing how all the race carders were not here when the OP had just posted. His budget is shit but it still does not take away the first post during after the queens death and funeral.

Really, I suppose it was ok to have a racist Conservative PM though? I guess the rest of the party were unaware of Boris's disgusting remarks made about Poc, Muslims and Gay men?Hmm

Agreed

Reminds me of the quote - "There are none so blind as those who will not see"

Funny how the first response was to call me racist. The level of reading comprehension skills in Western countries with free education is shocking.

I take it back OP, Kwasi does get loads of shit, its just from the opposite sides that usually make the most racist noise ( Tories and the right wing press) BUT we're seeing the same racist shit , but from Labour MP's and left wing press
