Hello!
My family is moving to SW London at the end of July. We will be living in Earlsfield in Wandsworth. We have two DS ages 5 and 3.

I'm here to seek recommendations for natural hair salon that does locs as well as an aesthetician for waxes. I know there are a million other things I will need to sort, but these two personal ones for me are important. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

Afraid I can’t help but if you don’t get joy here try posting on the website below. It’s like a local Mumsnet for sw london👍 nappyvalleynet.com
Hope all goes well with your move!!

Whenever I've travelled to or moved to an area I'm not familiar with I've found Google maps useful. Simply drag to the area you're interested in then type in the key word eg Afro hair salon and descriptions, reviews etc with those words will come up.

Strip is a good waxing chain in london. Very professional. Diverse range of staff every time I've gone.

@krobhix20 Morris Roots have four branches - www.morrisroots.com/contact/ including one in Tooting, which isn't far from Earlsfield.

awesome! thank you @doadeer and @Soma for these recs. I was hoping for a personal experience from someone so this is helpful.

also @Blinkingbatshit thanks for the heads up about nappyvalley. we are really excited about the move and anything to make it a bit easier is great.

frohub.com they aim to solve this problem

@krobhix20 Elite hair lounge is good, have a look at their Instagram instagram.com/elitehairlounge?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

They have 3 locations, depending where in Earlsfield you are, their Stockwell branch might be doable for you (about a 25 minute drive).

I've used the one in Lewisham so can't vouch for the others, and they're great.

I know what it's like when you're moving! Finding a decent hair salon is a top priority as well, luckily I've never moved too far from my regular place to be able to go back to them.

Your best bet for recommendations for stuff like this, is to join the SW18 mums Facebook group

RedWingBoots · 02/07/2022 13:23

OP the best way to get a good recommendation is actually when you are in London and see someone's hair you like. Just complement the person and ask the details of who does their hair.

Welcome to London! You're very close to me in SW London. It's a great area - lots on your doorstep, green space and great transport links. Feel free to hit me up with any questions. I'm not sure re. locs specifically, but Hype has 2 branches and the Brixton salon specialises more in natural hair.

For waxing, you want somewhere local, so I'd recommend checking out Treatwell.com and filtering by location and reading reviews. There will be lots of places around Earlsfield High Street or Clapham Junction/Balham depending on which area you're closest to. NappyValley is great for local info, but it's not a diverse site and is very middle class yummy mummy (which reflects much of SW London), so you may want to seek out church/social groups locally as well.
