Book 1 of the Wormwood Trilogy, Winner of the Nommo Award for Best Novel www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0356511367/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_JZBNVFX70RDN0ZF8PW5Z

Anyone else reading these books?

I’ve just finished the first of the trilogy and had to keep stopping to exclaim “I love this book!”. Sci-fi, set in a future Nigeria, relatively high-brow - the writer is a doctor so there’s lots of medical science employed for breathtaking world building. Admittedly it is a mite too long and one could argue over the expansion of fantasy in the final third of the novel - but, truly, one of the most exciting and absorbing things I’ve read in decades.

You must! I’ve been telling everyone about it since I finished it.

And I feel slightly ashamed of not having noticed it until now. In this interview:

www.theillustratedpage.net/2018/09/05/author-interview-tade-thompson-on-rosewater/

he explains that he first submitted it to a publisher in 2014 and it was taken up by a small press. Then republished after attracting positive reviews. At the time of the interview he hadn’t yet won the Arthur C Clarke award, which happened in 2019.

I wanted to link a review - but they all give away more than I knew when I read it, and really, uncovering the story for oneself is definitely preferable.
