Saw it last night and was reminded of the greatness of the Williams sisters and the role their dad played in their success against enormous odds.

It seems just yesterday that they burst on to the scene and I remember being bemused by Richard in interview and dismissing him as a dad ambitious for his girls but who really didn't have a clue. How wrong was I and so many others!

I just saw this, I felt proud of Venus, Serena, their sisters and their parents like they were my own family! So many bits I had tears in my eyes, it was amazing. I found myself shouting yes at certain parts and clapping when they got one over on the tennis elite.

It's absolutely begging for a follow up though, it doesn't even touch the sides of their careers. And I know that wasn't the point, but they really did go through the mill to succeed.

And yes, hail King Richard. His vision and follow through put them where they are today.

I felt immense pride too!

If you think about it, only a very special, tight knit family could navigate what they had to and triumph in the way they did.

And they didn’t go off the rails.

There’s a line I think where the mum says something like - know who you are and where you’re coming from. The snobbery, elitism and racism couldn’t touch them.

I’ve been watching some old footage and there’s one where a very young Venus played Lindsay Davenport who complained that Venus’ beads were a distraction leading to a point being taken off Venus.

There’s many fawning all over them now who were very rude to/about them in the early days.

I haven't had the time to watch this yet, but it definitely sounds worthwhile!
Maggie, yes, I remember the beads incident! People were indeed quite horrible back when they were starting out.
Amazing women.I love how you bring them to our attention on here, it makes me smile!

I'm just watching this now.

I'm sitting here thinking about exactly WHAT I'm going shape my kids into. They are out visiting family with their dad now, but sure enough, as soon s they get home SOMETHING is starting. maybe chess, whizzes, or maths geniuses, or fictional authors, I don't know, but I have about half an hour to decide!

;p

I have always loved these women and so much respect for their family. Always made me proud to be black.

Is it still in the cinemas or Amazon prime?

@Ohwhere2021

Is it still in the cinemas or Amazon prime?
Its available Prime and Apple TV but not as part of the included content so will cost £15.99 on either of them at the moment. Its worth the fee, its a great film.
