"In Black Poppies the accounts of black servicemen fighting for their ‘Mother Country’ are charted from the outbreak of war in 1914 to the conflict’s aftermath in 1919, when black communities up and down Great Britain were faced with the anti-black ‘race riots’ in spite of their dedicated service to their country at home and abroad"

Thanks for this @BlackAndGreen.

I’ve just requested this through my library. Thank you!

Thanks for sharing. There’s Black Poppy Rose which also raises awareness of the contributions of black servicemen and women here
I paused on Thursday and remembered my grandad and his brothers, all passed now, who all fought for a country they loved even though it didn’t always love them back.

@PompomDahlia Thanks so much for posting the link to Black Poppy Rose. I was trying to find out if there was such an organisation.
You are so right about a country that didn't always love our family members back.
I've signed up to Black Poppy Rose. Keeping them all in my thoughts and prayers.
