Black nativity set

Hi all. I’m looking for a nativity set as we always had one when I was growing up and I used to love it. But they are all white. Has anyone seen any nativity sets with black characters? I’d really appreciate your help. Thanks

You can order them from the US. Try Etsy.

FuckingFlumps · 26/09/2021 15:12

I used to work in a school where most of the children were not white and we had this nativity scene.

It's currently not in stock but hopefully it comes in again nearer Christmas. It was absolutely lovely quality and indestructible plus the children loved the more diverse figures.

Not exactly black but traidcraft has an olive wood carved set, pricey though! I've seen a black set through my church supplies company but can't remember which one or find it for you just looked, I'll see if I still have the flyer on my desk tomorrow

This place has a range of black Christmas themed decorations, nativity etc. but their Christmas shop is not yet open

Definitely March muses. I've got some lovely tree decorations -including a black angel- from them. Keep an eye on their site as the black nativity scene sold out early last year.

EchoNan · 27/09/2021 22:19

Thanks for the March Muses link, the angels are beautiful

Someone on another thread here has posted this link. It's expensive, but @balloonsintrees bought it for her school. by a black artist for UNICEF.

We have these figures - about 50 of them including camels, goats, different types of kings, angels etc accumulated over the years. They are lovely little figures and very tactile.
Ours came from the grandparent generation and I wouldn't swap them for gold. When the DC were small they used to supplement them with action figures from play sets which rather took reduced the hand made look but the DGPs were amused.

EchoNan · 28/09/2021 11:41

That's such a lovely story. I'd love to have something that the grandchildren cherish.

A dinosaur or two, and a couple of lego figures, just add to the Christmas magic.

Thank you so much everyone, really really appreciate it!

Totally out of left field, but I enjoyed making my own out of (basic, children's) clay last year. If there are children involved, maybe they could have a go over advent? That way you can have the figures any way you like, and it'd be something to treasure!

Lndnmummy · 01/10/2021 17:41

Some beautiful suggestions thank you everyone. The Lego and dinasours made me laugh, some paw patrol dogs made their way on to our Christmas tree last year.

They are lovely! @LaMadrilena. I was thinking about using craft peg dolls, but yours are charming. I'm inspired, thanks so much for posting.
They make you smile to look at them don't they? Smile

Angiedx · 01/10/2021 19:08

I second making some I did that with my daughter when I couldn’t find any
Am not very good at craft type activities but really enjoyed it
Will add to it each year

Love those clay figures

TheBlackDarner · 01/10/2021 19:18

@Angiedx Just what I was hoping to be able to do, I'm not very crafty but you have given me heart. I think I'll have some great fun with the little ones. They look great!

Lndnmummy · 02/10/2021 14:07

Hi again, thank you all so much for your suggestions. I loved the unicef ones but they were abit over my budget. I got these from Etsy and the boys and I will make the crib at home.

That one's gorgeous @Lndnmummy. I have a black angel decoration I brought back from South Africa and love.

Heads up as they were mentioned earlier in the thread but I saw on Insta that March Muses and some other black owned businesses have a pop up in Westfield Shepherds Bush during October. Hoping to get over there to spend some ££
