Places to live near Merseyside

My friend has found a job in Merseyside and is really concerned about racism as a single Black woman raising a son. She has said googling the area brings up quite disturbing racial disparity and racism rates. I wanted to ask if you know any places in the area that are Black friendly. The job is in Knowsley and she wants a maximum commute of 40mins. Any help would be much appreciated.

I've name changed for this.
I was brought up on Merseyside.
Knowsley/Kirkby/Huyton/Prescot and areas surrounding her work are mainly white. Historically, because of it's sea faring links, the population was more mixed towards the inner city and South Liverpool side.
While most people are lovely, warm, and inclusive, she might want to start looking at schools for her son and work from there. Brought up in North Liverpool, it was rare to see another black face. As an adult that's fine, as a child the racism from other kids was something else.

Sefton Park, Liverpool 8, Allerton, Penny Lane and Liverpool South generally, down towards the University of Liverpool, would be where I'd start to look. A bit of a commute, but she should do it in 40 mins.

I live out now towards West Lancashire, which is lovely but not very diverse and you can get to Knowsley on good roads within 40 minutes.

Hi @kirkbykid

Thank you. That is very helpful. She doesn't drive, but will have her licence soon so that will open up a few areas.

She was initially looking at Knowsley/Huyton/Prescot and had started viewing places online and almost put down a deposit on one place but this article scared her a bit.

I think she doesn't mind a mostly white area just not one that has form for being racist, especially when it crosses into being violent

@Carlettak
I think that is a fair article. I think her workplace will be fine. The areas around there have a lot of social deprivation. Then some "posher" houses in between. Recently there has been a lot of gang shootings too.
If she gets a chance could she rent for a short while perhaps and see what she thinks, or perhaps take a few days holiday and look about and get a feel for it. Definitely look at the schools too!

Some areas are cheaper than others, thers a reason. Also Childwall/Woolton/Allerton areas might be of interest.

Wavertree? Old Swan? Just looking for places a bit closer as it seems to be over an hour commute which can get complicated during rush hour and with a toddler to drop off and pick up from nursery

I'm Liverpool born snd bred. I live in fazakerley. Raised in Norris green.

There are nice bits and not nice bits everywhere in north Liverpool but mostly nicer bits in south Liverpool.

Wear derby is nice. So is croxteth.both north.

You'd be welcomed in any area.

If you want to post some houses you've looked at maybe we can tell you yay or nay on areas.

Welcome to Liverpool I am sure you will find we are welcoming to anyone who is family oriented and willing to chat to anyone.

Good luck with your move.
