Anyone else watching this on C4?

Absolutely heartbreaking...I am pregnant and these statistics are beyond worrying.

I am hoping to see this on catch up later.

chattypattee · 29/03/2021 21:34

I felt like it was way too short - didn't tell us anything new, beyond providing a few anecdotes. Don't think we were the target audience ...

Hopefully someone will do a more in depth investigative piece in the future.

maggiethecat · 29/03/2021 22:08

@chattypattee
I felt it was too short too and I also don’t think we were the target audience but I never fail to be shocked by the 4-5 times statistic.

I think we will see a serious journalistic piece soon since the issue has “popped its head up”. I would like that next piece to be pushing to get government ministers to say how the intend to deal with the problem.

Good point!

A date's been set for the debate next month: petition.parliament.uk/petitions/301079

Would make sense for there to be a follow up after especially as I feel like it'll be poorly attended/not much will come of it Sad

maggiethecat · 30/03/2021 00:11

@chattypattee
Love the name - If there was ever a food I’d love to chat to!

I will be watching that debate with interest to see the outcome for change and action.

I cannot get terribly excited though as I still don’t know the tangible changes to come out of Teresa May’s race disparity audit.

maggiethecat · 30/03/2021 00:18

@UrgentExitRequired
I know it must be worrying for you but it’s probably a good thing that this documentary has been aired when you’re soon to give birth. I should hope that people might have a new or renewed awareness when delivering care to us.

Wishing you well Flowers

RedMarauder · 30/03/2021 10:08

@maggiethecat by holding another commission on race.

That's what the Tory government has done since it has been in power on race issues.

Haha I do love patties (not the reference I was thinking of when I made the name though!) - I'd kill for a Juici Patty fresh from the oven in Jamaica... aghhh get me out of here!!

Fingers crossed for some tangible change following the debate... Sadly "race" isn't taking seriously by the Tories.
Too much emphasis placed on "personal responsibility" and not enough given attention to structural impediments. Sigh.

@chattypattee

You may as well read this:
www.theguardian.com/world/2021/mar/31/uk-an-exemplar-of-racial-equality-no-10s-race-commission-concludes

You can probably find the report yourself as it will be online somewhere.

Anyway they won't be doing anything.

Forwhatitsworth101 · 31/03/2021 06:17

Yes I just started a thread on that report but yes essentially by publishing that report they are cancelling all issues on racism and saying “f* you we will doing nothing about it”

They also like to use black people to deliver that message.
