Hi All,

I want to build up my ~library~ book shelves with some great book recommendations for me, and my little ones - male and female (primary school age, but for the benefit of everyone else who might read this thread, recommendations across age groups would be excellent).

I would love some black-centred fiction and non-fiction that black people appreciate.

Classics and newbies, all welcome. I'm going to buy one book or more a week.

I am already working my way through grassrootscommunityfoundation.org/1000-black-girl-books-resource-guide/

The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett. It's the best book I've read this year.

We've got most of these on this list:

I recall that we didn't enjoy Sulwe, and didn't finish it, although I can't remember why. Might have to revisit it.

This is an interesting concept which I've not had a chance to explore yet:

What a lovely idea!. Have signed up! Thanks Star

I love BMN. I was truly missing out on so many black businesses before.

Please continue to share these little gems.

For 9+ I recommend this author. She has four children’s books published and I heartily recommend “ The boy at the back of the class”
DS ( preteen) read it and enjoyed it and he is an avid reader who critiques books like a pro.

All the characters in her stories feature BAME children. Be aware that one features Dv told from a BAME child’s POV. Dd ( teen) read it and we talked about it.

I know your dc are primary but you did ask for a range of books.

I believe some are available on audio format too.
