What did you all think of this sequel?

I actually really enjoyed it! I honestly thought I would hate it, the trailer was rubbish. However, I was pleasantly surprised. I loved seeing Davido and hearing Tiwa Savage in the background. I loved the casting for Prince Akeem's daughters (one of them being his Murphy's daughter in real). I loved the costume...I know it wasn't authentic, but given it's a comedy I thought they did a good job. I liked the banter in the barbershop as well and how they addressed some political things too.

I saw blind I would hate it, but found myself loving it.

Oh and give me Teyana Taylor's body any day!!

It was fun but I still fell asleep with 10 mins to go.

RedMarauder · 07/03/2021 22:41

It was enjoyable because of all the old stuff that went back to. The plot wasn't great.

The depiction of Leslie Jones character is problematic. As is the colorism. Tone-deaf film, I tuned out.

CarlottaValdez · 08/03/2021 09:43

I thought it was pretty awful. Eddie Murphy is a fantastic actor with the right material (loved my name is Dolemite) but this was dross.

I loved it!! The storyline was naff but I loved it for the nostalgia and bringing back the old characters. Would have liked to see Daryl and Patryce as well.
I think if you just take it for a "trip down memory lanes sake" it is funny and enjoyable. Nothing will surpass the first film but I don't think it set out to. And yes Teyana Taylor is absolutely stunning!

Loved it but I really wish they had included an updated ad for Soul Glo- that was the funniest bit in the first one! Apparently the male model from the original ad was in this sequel but I missed his cameo.

Cannot believe the original is more than 30 years old! Will be a step back in time to watch......

Watched as a double bill.
Really enjoyed it and laughed out loud a few times.

Ooh, I need to watch this. Loved the first one. So funny Grin

CruellaDePaella · 11/03/2021 17:47

Loved the first one. Haven't watched this one yet and may still do but having realised the blatant colourism in the first one (which I completely missed till I watched it again a year ago or so), a PP's post on the colourism and Leslie's character depiction isn't surprising and has put me off.

Wonder if Patrice (Allison Dean) and Vanessa Bell Calloway's character featured in this one - I thought they were gorgeous (much more so than Lisa, who was lovely too). Shame they were used as comic relief basically.

I'm younger than the first one, so always struggled to watch it. I tried the new one on Saturday but couldn't survive Eddie Murphy's accent. (I just really hate the generic American African accent, it is painful to my ears). I really want to like it so will try both again this weekend.
