Black Mumsnetters
Looking for a black baby dolly
PatricksRum · 27/11/2020 15:46
Any recommendations?
Like a black Annabelle
olderthanyouthink · 27/11/2020 16:53
Miniland do them but I don't like the look of some of them, it's not just me, I had to check my reaction with a couple friends
La newborn do black dolls too
Paola reina are similar to miniland

I have a black Baby Born from 1999! It's a lovely doll. I think they're about £40 or so thesedays.
There are quite a few soft bodied versions (we like the Cupcake ones from ELC and other places) but this one is probably the most like what you describe, a slightly larger and plastic doll.
PatricksRum · 27/11/2020 17:49
Thank you!
The mini and one is a bit um... I agree.
Will check out the others, thanks

Sorry, I actually burst out laughing. Who annoyed that baby? 🤣
Not a soft body, but:

I bought a Jamaican teddy bear from here, and there are dolls too, but they are toddler dolls zuree.co.uk/

We’ve got the Corolle Calin Maria. It’s soft-bodied and prettier than the average doll I think (I generally find dolls a bit creepy). However, she looks mixed rather than black - she has the same skin tone as my DC so it suits us well. I think Corolle have darker skinned dolls too but I may be wrong on this.

DD had one from the Early Learning Centre that she loved devotedly. She got lost once and we had to buy a replacement. DD was very impressed that dolly came back all new and without the scrapes she had had!

@Lettitbee we have a spare of my daughters favourite jelly cat and I'm thinking I might need to run it through the machine a few times so it looses that new toy look
whoami24601 · 27/11/2020 21:05
@olderthanyouthink if she's still young just swap them over while she's not looking! DS(5) has the same jellycat since birth but when he was 18mo we got a spare and switch over every few months since. He has no idea 😁

Something like this? www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-my-first-baby-girl-doll/p5123719

Baby born do a black baby doll, both boy and girl versions. It’s not quite the same as Annabelle, baby born has a hard plastic body, but you can get lots of accessories and outfits to go with it.
ringaroundmyrosy · 27/11/2020 21:17
What about a Leya doll ?.. I've not bought these myself, as wanted a blonde soft bodied one to look like my DD, but they look adorable.

Also chad valley but I don’t like this one, it seems to have a massive head and tiny body.
whatisthepointofatoering · 01/12/2020 20:16
I always want to know what OP buys in the end. Does that make me over invested ? I need updates 😂
GrumpyHoonMain · 24/01/2021 19:10
There are some american brands on amazon with decent reviews and good prices - approx £11ish. I really resent having to pay more than a white person just because I want my son to have a toy that looks like him but those prices aren’t bad.
NoIfsNoButsNoCoconuts · 24/01/2021 19:21
We’ve got a black baby born, and also a baby alive.
The baby alive one is quite small but has a soft body.
Dinkum dolls have lots of different skin tones, my daughters adore theirs.
riddles26 · 24/01/2021 19:48
Have you looked at Ruben's barn? They have different ranges and all of them include a range of skin tones. Not the cheapest but brilliant quality and can be easily cleaned
twilightcafe · 13/02/2021 10:41
We bought these dolls from Mary Shortle in York.
We started out with one. DD loved it so much that we bought the matching sibling for Christmas from the Mary Shortle website.
I think they cost £37 each.

The Argos Tiny Treasures ones are lovely: soft bodied, weighted and scented!
