Getting ready to whoop for the first female and black VP of the US!
maggiethecat · 06/11/2020 13:12
In the shitshow that's happening in the US at the moment Kamala's success is not a point of focus but I must say that I am beaming 😀
maggiethecat · 06/11/2020 14:04
Ahead in Pennsylvania now! Just need to figure out how to extract the Orangeman from the WH.
Dastardlythefriendlymutt · 06/11/2020 14:09
Electoral college is mad honestly - how can Biden have 4 million more votes and still possibly lose the election?. Both the US and UK need to move to proportional representation.
Constantly checking the results as well. Georgia is neck and neck. And why is Nevada taking so long to count votes?
PatriciaHolm · 06/11/2020 14:19
Nevada has an unprecedented amount of mail-in votes received/postmarked by 3rd, and because of the way they do mail ins (everyone in the state is sent one) there is a lot of checking to do to make sure every one is legal (and not, for example, a vote from someone who also voted on the day). So it's not just a case of counting, every single ballot needs to be cross checked against existing voting records.
OddBoots · 06/11/2020 14:24
That's really interesting @PatriciaHolm - do you know what happens if there is a mail in and an in person vote from the same person? Does one take precedent over the other or are they both discounted? Or something else?
PatriciaHolm · 06/11/2020 14:34
I believe, though I am not an expert, the first recorded vote counts, so the mail-in ballot is invalidated (though in practical terms I suspect the number of people who vote differently is too small to count!)
I think how it works is that you are supposed to bring your mail-in ballot with you if you decide to vote in person, and use it. If you forget, you are given a "provisional" ballot, which is not tallied until the end when all postal votes are looked at, to ensure no duplication.
maggiethecat · 06/11/2020 16:31
@Dastardlythefriendlymutt - if Biden continues on the same trajectory for Pennsylvania he doesn't need anything else to win. Of course the greater his EC number lead the more ridiculous Orangeman's challenges appear.
Dastardlythefriendlymutt · 06/11/2020 18:33
Thanks Patricia that is interesting.
Yes definitely maggiethecat - just wishing for the waiting to end. Would love to get rid of this madman.
PonDeReplay · 07/11/2020 15:19
It’s exciting news! I’m looking forward to having it confirmed. I also think it’s great that she has multi-racial heritage so that people from different minority groups can also claim her as their own.
Venicelover · 07/11/2020 15:56
@PonDeReplay
It is great news isn't it? Really exciting.
JayDot500 · 07/11/2020 17:32
Happiness!!!
Tbh, I'm not even focused on Kamala right now, I'm happy for the 4 years of relative peace we gon get. Kamala Harris has plenty to be proud of, so I'm very happy for her and all she represents.
Well done to Stacey Abrams too! I've only just gotten around to understanding all of the work she put in. She also deserves applause and accolades 💐
Dastardlythefriendlymutt · 07/11/2020 17:52
Finally officially I can say
"CONGRATULATIONS MADAM VICE PRESIDENT"
I'm sure that senator mispronouncing her name on purpose at the Truml rally is kicking himself.
Trump is OUT🥳🥳🥳🎊🎊🎊🥂
Dastardlythefriendlymutt · 07/11/2020 18:07
I'm sorry to keep flooding this post but I was watching the news coverage and I just got chills all up and down my spine when I heard:
"Kamala Harris will be the first woman, and woman of colour to become Vice President"🥺😊😁
JayDot500 · 07/11/2020 18:12
Apparently, Will Smith's dad voted twice according to Rudy Giuliani 🤣 .. or did I dream that speech because wtf 🤣
Trump is out! May he now play all the golf his heart desires and stay the feck away from the mainstream and my ear holes kmt
RedMarauder · 07/11/2020 19:44
Trump is still playing golf.
I'm worried when he eventually speaks he is going to start rioting.
QueenOfLabradors · 07/11/2020 19:49
The worst thing about the US system is that the election happens in early November. When the whole system started in the 18th century, the fastest way to get information around was horse and rider so it made sense to leave a good long gap between the election and the actual changeover of power. Trump will continue to be President until January. He will use that time to do all sorts of shitty crap things.
Inpensity · 07/11/2020 20:14
I note that Kamala is being referred to black- and Asian-American. Jamaican- and Indian-American. Barack was just black. if your mix is two ‘ethnic’ groups; both are acknowledged. If black and white; only black acknowledged. I think I know the history of this is down to absence of acceptance from white people of mixed race (black and white) people historically in America etc (one-drop rule). Interesting how it still plays out in 2020.......
bluefor · 07/11/2020 20:26
I remember the Washington Post did a survey about Obama's racial identity that showed he was viewed as mixed race by white and Hispanic Americans, but as black by African Americans
maggiethecat · 07/11/2020 22:50
Will revel in this victory for now and think about what’s to come later when Orangeman tries to bring the whole house of cards down.
Stacey will have a place in government for sure.
RedMarauder · 07/11/2020 23:34
Obama self identifies as black. Harris doesn't.
I don't know what people's problems are with people who are in the public domain self-identifying as what they want...
maggiethecat · 08/11/2020 08:55
RedMarauder - Kamala has said that she is very comfortable with who she is. I’m not sure why you say she doesn’t identify as black as from all all appearances she embraces her blackness. She speaks proudly of her time at Howard, an historically black college and talks of her parents’ involvement in the civil rights movement. She says her mother was acutely aware that she was raising black daughters and this informed her parenting.
SandyY2K · 08/11/2020 10:22
What a fantastic result....Brilliant news it was yesterday.

She has not even been sworn in yet and the undermining and rubbishing starts. Some people are just haters!!!
