nymph congrats on your section, do you know the date???

nymphadora · 31/07/2010 16:23

Not yet. Have approx one(s) but depends on my bp & health as they may go for earlier if I'm ill

Nymph Congrats on your section, I hope everything goes well with it all. Are you still getting those stretchy pains you had in the begining? I know you said you were suffering with them a while back.

nymphadora · 31/07/2010 18:08

No stretchy stuff stopped now. Just the hip pain& the baby jumping on my cervix pains now

Hermya321 · 31/07/2010 18:39

Nymph Oh nice, also have you heard about the breast feeding thing thats going on this month?

floozietoozie · 31/07/2010 21:16

SamB I remember reading a report saying feeding at regular intrvals (I think past the initial stages, once a little bit more established IIRC) was more effective than fx every hour or so. Not the ridiculous 4 hour gaps of old but something like a routine. When my friend came to visit me with her son at five months she fed about every three hours and it seemed to work really well.

Dilly I second what Sam says - if you are prepared for the fact that bf may not be plain sailing and accept it will need some work then I think you're more likely to be able to deal with stuff when it arises and be successful. Don't be put off please . You never know, you may sail through it. Some people do, it's just I think there's this perception that because it's natural, it's automatically easy, or straightforward anyway. That was certainly my impression - it didn't occur to me I may not have been able to do it.

AbFabT · 31/07/2010 22:36

Happy belated Birthday, sam12. Hope you are having a lovely weekend.

Hermya, sorry to hear your trip home took so long!

We've got three grobags/sleeping bags, and a couple of swaddling blankety things too - just got to see what the baby prefers/what works best - LOVE the grobags though, they look so so gorgeous!

Hermya, what breastfeeding thing that's going on this month?

No leaky nipples here yet - hope that doesn't mean I'll have problems with milk flow - should I be leaking by now?

MIL has ordered our baby hammock for us, bless her - so that should be arriving early next week. Really feel like we are getting there now re baby bits!
My mum's desperate to by stuff but I've been pretty organised, so asked her to hold off, with the promise of the Baby Show so she can indulge then. She was happy about that.

PILs are both in the teaching profession, so have half term around when our baby is due - asked if they can come down to stay for a few days the week after the EDD, so I hope the baby is here by then - would be sad if they missed it. I know they'd make every effort to return asap, but they live so far away it's not so straightforward.

Think we're now going to hold off with the wood flooring; will throw the money we'd have spent at the mortgage instead, then in a year and a half reassess our finances and ideally get a few more things done to the house all at the same time - rather than disrupting ourselves now for one lot of work, only to do so again a year later.

DillyDora · 01/08/2010 09:03

Floozie and Sam my Mum couldn't bf (allegedly I wouldn't suck...), that's where most of my anxiety comes from. I just really reeeaaally want to be able to do it. I do think you're right that being prepared for it to be tricky will help if it is... I was talking to DH and I know we're kind of expecting a baby who won't sleep or feed because he had such a bad experience with his sons and....well, I don't know what my excuse is ;0)

Not everyone gets leaky nipples abfab it doesn't mean anything, so don't worry.

nymphadora · 01/08/2010 10:58

Hermya- it's on FB and I'm friends with it!

Breastfeeding festival near me 16-21 ( I think) of august

floozietoozie · 01/08/2010 11:11

SamB I had a great experience with sleeping bags and would highly recommend them. Once he was older and more mobile Ds wouldstart the night at one end of the cot and end it facing the other so if he'd still been under sheets he'd have frequently been cold/awake as he'd have lost them.

I finish work in one calendar month. Hurrah!!! Five actual weeks working though but as I'm part time it's just four and a half from now.

nymphadora · 01/08/2010 12:43

Just got my baby stuff from loft. Not much in way of clothes but practically full set of nappies. Just need reminding how many changes a day for new born -6 months?

OP posts:
Hermya321 · 01/08/2010 16:56

Nymph Cool, I got told about it by a bloke at work. I don't know how he knew about it though . I think it was 8 plus changes for a little baby, at least thats what the internet told me.

Abfab So now that you're not going to do the wood flooring, did you give in and open your pram?

Floozie Oh that sounds so nice.

AbFabT · 01/08/2010 17:51

Thanks for BF info. Shame it's so far from me! Maybe there's one local - I'll look.

Hermya, been lazy today, so no, haven't opened the pram box! I should, shouldn't I!!!

Tyson86 · 01/08/2010 19:19

Hello, ive had a bit of a lack in movements today, she has moved abit but not as much as normal. I think i can feel her back whch would explain it. As i was worried i shone a torch on my tummy and she went mad with the kicking. Still paranoid though.

nymphadora · 01/08/2010 19:46

Some one on the nappy bit thinks I should be ok. Have25 old & 2 new so far for 10lb+ so just need to sort newborns.

Work tomorrow 3 full days 2 half days left

OP posts:
Elsa123 · 01/08/2010 19:58

Hi all. Tyson, I reckon its lazy Sunday for babies as mine's been quieter than normal too. My mw said try to register 10 movements a day and if you think its been quiet lie down and drink a glass of really cold water, which can get them going. Easier said than done, but try not to worry, the torch thing seemed to do the trick!

Ooh, AbfabT open the pram box!! I want to see a pic of yours all put together! The Stokke's are so funky and my DH also liked the cots when we saw them the other day.

We've been pretty proactive this weekend and got an Amby nest from Kiddicare on Friday afternoon (good time to go it was really quiet). I wasn't a mad fan of the kiddicare website, finding it too complicated, but the shop was well laid out, but really lacking in decent explanations for the random bits of kit we saw and they have pay stations dotted around, but we had to go to the station near the Amby nest as it was not on the screen of any other pay station if that makes sense. You then get a print out receipt (which I promptly lost) to take to an ikea/argos style counter while they fetch the item. I'd lost the receipt and someone told me it had been found and taken to the counter, but the idiot there knew nothing about it, said he'd ask someone else and promptly went about his business ignoring me....So it may be a slightly annoying place to go to on a busy Saturday....

We went to Mothercare yesterday and ordered the Spin pushchair in green. We diligently tried out most of the prams/pushchairs n Kiddicare and were really happy with the Mothercare Spin afterall. They're advertised at £450, but the sales assistant randomly gave us 10% off, and when we joined the Mothercare baby club they have us an extra £20 off. It comes with cosy toe, pram liner, rain cover etc.

We've chosen to have a Britax first class car seat and are going to get it when we pick up the spin from the shop next weekend. They deliver for free but we're never in, so its easier to go into town.

Then! we went to Asda today and bought 2 starter packs of 3 sleepsuits, 3 vests, a hat, mitts and booties for £7 each. 6 muslins for £6, 6 bibs for £3 and a couple of hooded towels. I got the hooded towels in blue as I was tired of white and there were not enough unisex vests etc around for the right age group. Instantly my mother assumed we were having a boy because I had 2 blue towels....I said no, I just like pastel blue, I have no idea of the sex. I think she thinks I'm lying. Perhaps I should have bought cream afterall.

My parents brought over a moses basket on wheels that my sister and I had as children so we have that to use as well and its got a new mattress.

I managed to tackle the issue of my mother wanting to be with me at the birth etc, by telling her the hospitals visiting hours, thus making it plain that she could come post birth. Also, she now knows that she won't be staying at my house. She plans to stay at er sisters or a local travelodge. And she was really positive, so I think she'd had a word with herself. Which ever, my dad looked very unhappy about having to be around at all and kept pulling faces. When I said I'd be very pleased to see him hold the baby, he visibly shuddered. And this is his 3rd grand child! Oh well, I'm not disappointed as I know he'll show interest in a different way. Just not sure what way yet.

Hope you're all enjoying your Sundays and Nymph I haven't got a scooby doo how many nappy changes there'll be a day ...but I have bought 2 packs of 80 odd organic cotton huggies......we'll see....

nymphadora · 01/08/2010 21:56

Is anyone else finding a lack of neutral baby clothes? I finally started looking today , just online after realising that the 3 from my loft won't be enough most places I looked there was only pink or blue and loads didn't have sleepsuits at all. Don't wantg to spend much so if anyone has any suggestions? Will browse supermarkets too over next 12 few weeks!

OP posts:
Hermya321 · 02/08/2010 07:32

Nymph Theres a good deal going on in Asda at the moment, I've seen grey and white sleepsuits in there in a pack of three for a fiver. Also Mothercare seem to have a lot of nice neutral stuff in at the moment.

RooBear · 02/08/2010 08:56

hello everyone, I was going to suggest Adsa hermya ! Matalan as well has a pack of 7 white sleepsuits with a picture of a bright nimal on each for only £8 or something, was pleased as I'm sick of cream! Very of those hving a few weeks left at work, I still have 10 weeks to go!

shieldbug · 02/08/2010 10:26

AbFab no boob leakage here yet either, but I don't think everybody does leak in pg. I'm not really worried about it tbh, although I am desperately wanting to bf.

Dilly I guess I'm anxious about whether I'll be able to bf or not, just because it's another unknown. I'm hoping for lots of advice from all the lovely mums on here when I run into difficulties.

nymph (sorry if I've got wrong person) did you get the free changing bag from boots as part of a club there or was it through another one? If there's any freebies going, I want them!! I was in Mamas and Papas on Saturday and they have gorgeous cream and beige things, only problem is the price.

elsa very impressed by your preparations. Like you, I get fed up of bland coloured things, so my lastest knitting project (a jacket with matching har and gloves) is in a speckled blue, which will do for a boy or girl. Why aren't there things in nice bright reds, oranges and greens etc? I think that would be lovely for an autumnal baby.

Well, Dh and I have finally got round to looking at travel systems!! I know, don't faint, I'm getting organised at last! We both liked one in Mothercare which was only about £150, although I will need to buy some extras. We were suspicious at first because it was so cheap (and not on special offer). What pitfalls should we be looking out for that we might have missed? I don't want to buy then then find there was some major flaw I hadn't realised about! Advice appreciated.

shieldbug · 02/08/2010 10:28

Sorry for lots of typos- has anybody else found difficulties with co-ordinating their brain and fingers at the moment?

(Come to think of it in co-ordinating my brain and any part of me right now!)

DillyDora · 02/08/2010 12:44

Hi All,

Back from MW - all well with little man and his gallopy gallopy heartbeat. He was wriggling around which made her laugh - I said ' I told you!' bump is right size for dates, it just looks small IYSWIM... Have to see dentist for bleeding gums, and the gp for a mole that's gone funny (used to be flat and now it's not...) which is kind of a pain but better to be safe than sorry I guess. Slightly as the mole is on my fanjo (TMI?) but the gp I'll be showing it to is v nice (and won't judge me for lack of recent waxing

Re brightly coloured clothes for LOs you can try non-Brit designers - this depends a bit on where you live but if you're in London go to Westfields where there are a couple of boutiques with amazing stuff. Not cheap though...otherwise, online? I also thought John Lewis looked good...

shieldbug · 02/08/2010 12:51

dilly glad to hear all is well with your lovely wriggly baby. Hope the mole turns out just to be one of those pg things rather than a problem. Sadly, I'm no longer on the same island as London (I'm in NI) so may have difficulties in shopping there! Looking for stuff online sounds like a good plan.

AbFabT · 02/08/2010 13:15

Thanks for the non-leaky nipples affirmations - I shan't worry then! Just mega-keen to BF.

Dilly, well done for spotting the mole, especially down there! How!!! How did you see it!? And I hope you haven't been exposing that bit of yourself to the sun!!! Anyway, even if it is the dreaded C, they just chop it out, and high chances are you'll be fine. I've had it done (not down there though!). Most upsetting thing for me is the ugly scar I've been left with, which is visible to everyone if I am in a t-shirt. At least no one apart from your OH need see yours! And that's if it comes to it, and it may well not! Good luck, hope it's nothing.

Have bought my neutral baby clothes from Mamas and Papas - the trick is being patient and waiting for the sale! I haven't bought anything full price from there! Sale, it's still not mega cheap, but the quality feels so lovely to me, I think it's worth indulging a bit. I've also bought some neutral things from BabiesRUs (bargains), TKMaxx (bargains), and places like H&M, Next, Mothercare also do non-gender-specific baby things. Even when this one outs itself, I don't want to be going down the blue for a boy pink for a girl route - I much prefer neutrals or brights. Oh, and we have a gorgeous BLACK babygro too! I know black on babies isn't to everyone's taste, but we like it!

Still not opened my pram - DH was entertaining his brother yesterday, so I didn't want to open it without him! Maybe tonight!

Elsa123 · 02/08/2010 13:25

Thicko newbie to babyhood here, how do you get around the not sure what size the newborn baby will be thing? We went into M&P the other day and asked what if the stuff we buy is too small/wrong size, could we take it back? And they weren't sure (I think we spoke to someone tremendously stupid)....

Open that pram AbfabT!

Dilly, what a place for a mole! Its probably bigger due to the increased blood flow to that region, but better to check it out. Often GPs make tracing paper sketches of moles and then you go back in a few weeks to see if its changed from the last drawing....
