Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hello all!
At work with only a week to go before I finish...hurrah! One of my colleagues has just found out that she is pregnant with her third child. She's so excited, bless her, but is talking not stop and now becoming very annoying. Surely I wasn't that annoying when I first found out I was pregnant??? Was so long ago I can't remember!!
Have been managing to keep my hairy legs and other bits under control so far. Don't want to subject the MWs to any more unpleasantness than is neccessary!. Hair growth has definitely sped up though...nice!
Milward - About the probe thing...why can't your contractions be measured the same way as everyone else's, with that belt and sensor that they put around your bump? And why do they know beforehand that you are going to need this? Last time they attached a sensor to DD's head when she was still inside as she was in some distress and wanted to monitor her but that wasn't anything to do with my contractions. I was quite happy for them to do it as long as it helped my baby. You should have seen the position they made me get into to attach it, though.LOL
Glad everyone seems ok.
RZ - hang in there. I'm surprised you haven't been arrested for GBH yet!
STM glad you are ok, I was pretty sure we'd had another early sept baby too. Hope not in too much pain.
Diane - glad you've been put at ease a bit. Have they given you a deadline for baby to turn and discussed the possibility of a CS? Have you got a yoga/birthing ball to help?
Beatie - sorry, would have had to sacrifice the vase!

And finally...welcome to Zoezebra and Happy Birthday . You've joined us just as all just as the fun is about to start (apart from Moschops who decided that she just couldn't wait!)

ooops !

Redhelen · 18/08/2005 13:55

Hello every one

urrrrrrrrrrrrrr - I'm feeling angry!!

Loads to do - but I have no energy.

I feel a failure! Want to nest - but need to rest!!

Perhaps I'll feel more like cleaning/washing ironing when the temperature drops!?

Ps managed to shave front of legs on Monday - but not the backs! (May start a new trend?!)

RedZuleika · 18/08/2005 14:02

That's what I feel like too. GBH?? Now there's a thought...

Don't understand the word ironing though - and a death knell has been sounded over the washing machine, so that's out of the question.

Happy birthday Zoezebra.

Grump grump - back to my troll hole...

jessysmummy · 18/08/2005 14:30

My washing machine died at the weekend too. Think it's all the washing of new baby/DDs old stuff. Luckily DH had loaded the machine so I was completely guilt free! (Un)fortunately, DH was very efficient in finding someone to repair it and I will now have to spend tomorrow catching up on my washing /ironing. Whoopee!
to all those mad eager freezer beavers - I wish I was so organised. Still will have to leave something for DH to do when he's off on paternity leave!
Redhelen - yes, very becoming - smooth front and plaits down the back!!

alliejane · 18/08/2005 14:48

Hi everyone, I just found this message and because I'm due on September 15 (so 36 weeks exactly today) I thought it would be a good place to ask: I've planned for my maternity leave to start the week following next, so next week will be my last week at work. Am I leaving it too late? I'm feeling fine and I'm doing reduced hours (10.30-4.30) but lots of people seem surprised at how long I am leaving off going on leave. It's my first, so I am also sort of assuming that he wont arrive early...
Am I crazy to still be working??

jessysmummy · 18/08/2005 15:13

Welcome Alliejane - I don't think you're leaving it too late, especially if you are feeling fine. I finish next week too but am taking a weeks hol before mat leave kicks in, when I'll be 37 weeks. Main reason for this is that my DD (18mths) arrived 13 days late and I had started mat leave 5 weeks before EDD so I had to return to work when she was only just 5 months old. Felt like I had missed out on valuable time with her. I am thoroughly expecting this one to be late too and want to spend as much time as possible with him/her. I would work on right up until D day except that I live 30 miles away from job and wouldn't like to risk being caught short on the M62!
Anyway, hope you stick around on this thread - we're not a bad bunch, though a bit tired, achy and hairy!

bubbles2904 · 18/08/2005 15:16

Hi and welcome alliejane, wow, another new face, well name anyway LOL
i think that each individual is different and that some can't stand to work a minute longer, i know i couldn't. i have a friend who worked until 13 days before her due date and she gave birth on that date too, so not much time to prepare. she packed her hospital bag AFTER her waters had broken. but she had to sit at the till instead of her usual running around and said thats how she managed it. i think it depends on what your job is and circumstances. i worked until 3 weeks before due date with dd, but lived at home with my parents, worked 5 hours a day and had loads of energy. work until you feel right and ignore those comments. people always have opinions on matters that really don't concern them. SORRY waffled again.

bubbles2904 · 18/08/2005 15:20

LOL jessysmummy, we are all tired, and i for one am definetly hairy, gave up trying to reach my legs and ahem other areas weeks ago. i hope the mw is blind, LOL. i feel soooooooo sorry for you and all others on here with younger, demanding children. i have had two 6 yr olds one 7 yr old and one who's nearly 3 today and have been driven round the twist. i forgotten how demanding looking after a younger child can be as my dd is very independent and gets most things she wants/needs for herself.

beatie · 18/08/2005 15:26

The spider is no longer in my living room. Phew! DH came home and took it outside. Saved the spider and saved the vase

Redhelen - I feel so like you do. I walk into the baby's room and see so much I want to organise but have zero energy to get it done. Now, with this humid heat, I can barely get myself out of a chair.

I'd love to be sat in an outdoor pool today - all day. Bliss.

PiccadillyCircus · 18/08/2005 15:40

My body has decided it is on strike. As long as I am sitting down and not having to get up and down for things that DS needs/wants I am OK but I am incapable of moving. Luckily DS is (for now) engrossed in the sand pit and I am sitting on a chair and enjoying wireless technology .

Only problem was when I discovered a dead shrew on the grass (thank you cat) but managed to get rid of it before DS found it.

I never realy shave the back of my legs . Much less hair there and I never really think about other people seeing it or not. But having dark hair the front of legs is necessary.

As for other hair, after having to cut out a matted (with blood) section of it after DS was born, I am trying to keep it under control. NOt bothered about the shape etc any more, just hacking away with a pair of scissors to lessen the chance of mattedness.

Welcome Alliejane .

You aren't at all mad to keep on working for as long as you feel able to and want to.
Your baby is due on my cousin's birthday. Other "taken" dates in my family include my aunt (20th), dad (24th) and mine on the 8th of course (I keep mentioning this in the hope that this baby will not be born on my birthday).

PiccadillyCircus · 18/08/2005 15:45

Completely with everyone on the "things need doing but my body is incapable of doing them" thing. And by the time DH gets home both of us are worn out plus don't want to wake up DS by making a noise upstairs sorting things out.

Redhelen · 18/08/2005 16:30

jessysmummy - "we're not a bad bunch, though a bit tired, achy and hairy!" had to laugh in my mind though I'm a super model!!!!!!!!

zoezebra - hello & Happy birthday!

Hello alliejane - is it your first child? - think if your feeling well you should work as long as you feel able- I worked up until one before with ds - this time I left 11 weeks before!!!

Warning warning tmi below - has any one else's arm pits darkened? - was expecting the tummy stripe and nipples - but arm pits too??? (wow I'm sexy!!!)

pooka · 18/08/2005 16:42

Wow Redhelen - yes they have darkened (not the hair as always shave, but the skin definitely seems more pigmented. Wierd.
I found my first stretch marks yesterday. Not on tummy, but inner thigh . Feel like a complete hippo.
Our evenings are also pretty much write-offs in terms of getting baby stuff sorted as we also don't want to wake dd, so suppose I should give dh a break about going into the loft - he doesn't get much chance apart from at weekends.
Feel completely lethargic - hot and bothered and unable to make up my mind about anything. i.e. would go into garden, but can't be bothered to even take the cover off the sandpit and its too hot for me. Went swimming with dd this morning and its completely worn me out. I'm done in!!!

pooka · 18/08/2005 16:44

Hello Alliejane. I think it's a question of each to her own in terms of how long you work pre-baby. I worked until 6 weeks before last time. Knew I was going back part-time and wanted as much time off as possible afterwards (ended up being off for about 12 months). This time won't be going back so left work at 23 weeks (used all annual leave) as wanted to spend as much time with dd as possible.

mummyhill · 18/08/2005 17:22

NEED SLEEP, ENERGY PLEASE if i shout it loud enough often enough do you think it will happen? No? Me neither.

Welcome alliejane - No you are not mad I worked till 36 weeks with dd but gave up work a lot earlier this time thanks to an understanding dr who signed me off (thanks to the moron who drove into the back of my car) at 32 weeks until my holiday at 34 weeks followed by my matternity leave which started at 36 weeks. Glad I got to finish work so early this time as i haven't got the energy to do anything.

No new stretch marks this time round but I feel like a beached whale most of the time. I am not too hairy as I can still manage all of that due to the amount of weight I lost at the begining of this pregnancy I have theoretically only put on 3kg from my pre pregnancy weight so far so my bump doesn't look much bigger than my belly used to IYSWIM, even if it is more uncomfy.

singleteenagemum · 18/08/2005 17:59

evening all,
hope you;ve all had good days. I;m absolutely knackered, need to pt my feet up but got so much to do...grrrr.

I've only put on 12 kilos, is that normal lol. Cant walk very well at the moment - either his bum or head (mw's cant decide what!) keeps pushing down on my pelvis, prising my bones apart, it;s agony. Still not long to go. Reckon i'll be early so that's good. As long as he doesn't come on Sunday or next week when i'm camping!

elasticated · 18/08/2005 18:05

hi all

wow - masses of postings while i've been away - and they all sound very familiar. welcome to the new names I'm also sleeping badly (up every couple of hours or so) but managing to get back to sleep (fingers crossed that lasts). Also have first stretch mark which looks like its making up for lost time, pretty big and sore across bottom of bump! Am planning to check armpits when i get home - sounds intriguing! Loved the 'dragging' description that someone made of how you feel in bed at night - I definitely feel like my (v heavy) bump is dragging on my skin. My saving grace at the moment is yoga which although makes me ache like mad the next day also makes me feel all warm and fuzzy about being pregnant - lots of other big-bellied ladies and a lovely teacher who talks about visualising our babies and sending messages to them etc etc. All usually far too mushy for me but I always come out feeling cheerier than when i went and thinking that i should make the most of being pregnant before its all over! Only 3 weeks and 3 days til due date - scared it may come early! I am working tomorrow and thrusday and friday next week which takes me up to 2 weeks before d day! I've also been getting lots of comments about leaving it late but as all the other posts have said i think it depends on job/how you feel/ how long you plan to take off after baby arrives etc etc. Sorry - long post and am leaving to get a lift and avoid train journey so bit rushed. Hope everyone has good weekends, I wonder who'll be next....

zoezebra · 18/08/2005 18:06

Have been out most of the day and it feels like a lifetime of catching up to do! Every subject from spiders to hairy legs and matresses has been discussed, my life really is quite unhappening today. Have just enjoyed a very nice day, thank you for all your birthday wishes.
Hubby has been off today too and now that I have discovered a new life of mumsnet this is what he thinks I do all day...I wish.
Am feeling very cumbersome and sluggish must be a combination of the hot weather and not getting much sleep last night. Fed up with having to pee 3 times a night. Also dreading the arrival back home of the little angel tomorrow who is bound to have tons of energy. Just not sure how I am going to cope for the next 3 weeks as had to jump on a bus back home after a small walk to the shops due to painful braxton hicks earlier! She is going to be gutted when I cannot even make it to the playground - guess am just gonna have to get creative with glue and art for the last few weeks.

mummyhill · 18/08/2005 18:17

ARGHHHH DH has just rushed in and back out again muttering something about his dad being admitted to hospital as MIL has has enough and is refusing to keep him at home.

diane77 · 18/08/2005 18:35

back from scan i am now booked for an elective section on the 29th August as baby is most definately breech!!

pooka · 18/08/2005 18:39

Gosh Diane- how exciting to have a date. Maybe you'll be the next one! Race you.....
What's wrong with your FIL Mummyhill? How upsetting.

mummyhill · 18/08/2005 18:42

They think he has cancer but not sure where it is, he has been seriousley depressed and is not eating or drinking enough which is extremley bad as he is a diabetic. His behaviour has been getting really bizzare recently as well. We have been trying to give them as much support as possible but it can be a bit difficult whilst pregnant. As well as supporting members of my own family with major health problems.

zoezebra · 18/08/2005 18:46

Diane77 - Am intrigued as I also find out tomorrow if the baby is still breech. What options do they give you (not sure what your due date was) and did the midwife tell you that you should be booked in for an elective C-section?
All a new experience for me as I had a normal gas and air (7hr) vaginal delivery the first time, thought that this one would be the same.....its a boy this time, its being a typical male and being difficult!! Congratulations on the due date - am so jealous and so over being pregnant
