Think your post is classed as an advert doulakate.

Could be wrong but I had to pay to advertise mu doula business on Mumsnet as I knew I wasn't allowed to post my ad/details in any section.

I'm not being funny; just don't want you to get into trouble.

oops, you're right luciemule, haven't been on this long and don't want to be unfair to fellow Doulas if they've paid for this. I'm lloking at menu bar, where do you go to put advert on?

think it might be in mumsnet local - I paid about £50 for two counties as I'm on the boarders of those. I could be wrong about the price as I did a netmums (shhhh) one at the same time.

Hi DoulaKate

I'd be interested in talking to you (before this disappears!).

I'm in Herts - how do I get in touch?

Thanks

Thanks luciemule, will take a look at mumsnet local. Whereabouts are you based?

I was based in Northants and Cambridgeshire but have now given up the business. Doesn't seem to be much call for doulas around here which is a shame; I think there's a real gap here in the NHS support services but perhaps, as it's such a wealthy area, mums already have nanny's or enough family support with family willing to travel to help out etc.

Advertising is so expensive and although I've advertised extensively, the NHS haven't been overly helpful in their support (in my area) whereas the area I moved from, would bite your hand off if you said you were a doula.
Oh well, it was good whilst it lasted but just can't afford the outgoings with very few incomings.

Good luck with your new business - my top tip is try to group with other doulas so you can all help each other; where I am, I'm probably only one of two doulas for over 20 miles and it's hard in an area where everyone says "a what-a?" when you say you're a doula!

DoulaKate, do you cover west London?

DoulaKate · 17/06/2010 18:24

Yes, I'm based near North London/Herts border so depends if it's relatively near either the M25 or within about an hour's drive. If you want to view my profile I'm on Doula.org.uk and I'm Kate Mason. Hopefully it won't scare you off!
