Antenatal Classes in Blackheath SE3??

Hello All

I'm 26 weeks, due end of August and I didn't realise how quickly the NCT courses fill up, and have missed out on a place for the classes in Blackheath/Greenwich area.

Does anyone know of any non-NCT classes that run in the area? I'm considering booking with my hospital (King's) but I don't live in the area and what I really wanted was the chance to meet people.

I'm originally from Canada, and don't know many people in the area, and thought classes might be a good way to meet other mums/babies???

Any suggestions...any mums to be in the same boat, in the same area?

Hi there babyboots.

I'm afraid I don't have any advice on NCT classes or substitutes as I'm still trying to figure it all out myself! I live in Greenwich too at the bottom of Blackheath Hill and would be happy to meet nearby mums and mums-to-be. I am due Jan 2011.

Hi babyboots, sorry you have not managed to get booked into classes - there's frequently not quite enough classes in August due to the fact that most teachers have school age children.

If you want to meet others locally, it is still worth joining NCT - the local branches (Lewisham and Greenwich) cover the two halves of Blackheath and organise open houses, sling meets and so on. If you email [email protected] you can get more info.

Hi

I've just moved here this weekend and I'm going to an antenatal yoga class tomrw run by www.peacefulpractice.co.uk/ will be hoping to meet some other mums to be.

I'm up for meeting for a coffee meet up as well as would be nice to meet a few people going through same situations... I'm due in 4 weeks!

The Martime Midwives from QEH hospital run an ante-natal course at the Alderwood Children's Centre but that might be a bit far away to meet Blackheath/Greenwich mums

Hi babyboots,
If its more for the social aspect of the classes I'd say go to the nct coffee mornings postnatally (don't think you have to be a member as although I did the classes with DC1 I never joined up). Alternatively try local bumps and baby groups - prob advertised on netmums.com or breastfeeding groups are usually welcoming.
It is a bit daunting going along alone though.
I did an antinatal aqua aerobics class last time around... it was at the arches leisure centre... may be easier to go to something where there is an activity if you don't know anyone to go with - try googling.
Otherwise I'm due 2nd September and although I already have 2 DC I don't know anyone who is pregant and would be lovely to meet someone who will have a baby the same age as mine! Both older DC will be in school when this one arrives, so will just be me and the baby! Oh and I live in Eltham by the way.

Hello,

I am not sure if you found an ante-natal class or not but I can highly recommend classes with Sophie Jacobs - you can contact her at [email protected]

She is fantastic - the classes take place in the West Greenwich community centre. It is just over a year since I had my little girl and I made some great friends for life - out of 8 of us who attended the classes, 7 of us still meet up regularly. It is great to have people who are going through the same thing as you are at the same time.

Good luck and congratulations.

We are meeting up (Thurd 15th July - Blackheath) and hoping to get to know some bump & baby friends. We're all due between Aug '10 - Jan '11. Feel free to join us whenever you are due. The more the merrier!!
