Twins - anyone due this year?

I have just found out today and am fairly shocked that I am having identical twins!

Would love to chat with any other mums to be, who are also pregnant with twins or more, or anyone with any experience as I am also pretty scared!

Have also been told that it's a high risk pregnancy as the babies share the placenta and are monochorionic, diamniotic. Dr told me not to google it too much as I will probably worry myself and there is a good chance I won't have any problems.

Any advice/help gratefully received

Congralutions Lucy.

Another expectant twin mum here too. Mine are non identical though.

My EDD is about the end of November. When is yours?

Have you lurked looked at the multiples board? I've spent a bit of time reading over there but not posted anything yet.

Hope you are feeling ok? I've been terrible with MS/nausea and extreme exhaustion but its easing now.

Hi, congratulations! I am pregnant with my second set of non-identical twins -due in Sept. Do have a look at the multiples board, they are a v friendly and helpful bunch!

Try not to worry too much about the "high risk" thing - ALL twin pgs are classed as high risk. My understanding is that monochorionic means yours share a placenta but diamniotic means they each have their own sac so your risk of problems is lower than if they were sharing a sac as well. Because mine are non-id, I have a scan and check-up every month - at my hospital it would have been fortnightly if they were id. Bit of a faff to have so many check-ups but at the same time hugely reassuring to know that any potential problems will be picked up quickly.

Hope it all goes smoothly for both of you. Twins are hard work but LOVELY!

Thanks tootired & bellabelly. Will have a look at the multiples board, sounds good
My original due date was the 14th Dec, but consultant said that twins will be early so if I don't go into labour prematurely it will be a caesarian around the 16th November. It will great to keep in contact ladies, I am still in shock I think, and so tired, being sick a lot!

lucy also try the due November ante natal club. I know you are technically due in Dec, but if you are likely to deliver in November, well same difference really!

The TAMBA website is also useful - has details of local twins' clubs, meet-ups etc as well as stacks of advice.

congratulations on your twin pregnancies. I had monochorionic diamniotic twins 6 years ago, as was monitored very closely for something called twin to twin transfusion syndrome ( basically one grows much more than the other). You will be well looked after!

goodlifemummy · 03/06/2010 18:24

Just wanted to add my congrats too, I had monochorionic/diamniotic girls 5 years ago, was well monitored but still suffered from PE having said that the girls were delivered safely at 33+6 and only spent 2 weeks in SCBU and have been a joy (mostly!) since the day they were born....remember, we are the special ones!! And people with singletons are always saying "I don't know how you cope with two!!" Well sometimes you don't, but hey, they don't need to know that - right?!!

Hello!
I am 20 week pregnant with Monichorionic/Diamniotic Identical boys. Im due October. We are still in shock even though we have known for a while now. Would love to chat with anyone for tips/advice/help as well. I have a 12yo son and a 9month old daughter who will be just gone 1yr when they arrive. Gold only knows how we will cope but we will - somehow?!
