Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LuckyC · 11/05/2010 16:29

Hang in there swquirtsmum. It's being the mum that counts and not the means of arrival.

peakyispreggers · 11/05/2010 16:50

Congratulations Hobnob! Sounds like a good experience, even if the midwife tried to ruin things! Well done on the gas and air only - heroic.
Alle hope things get better soon, have you thought of trying the NCT?
squirtsmum fingers crossed for you, I am dreading going overdue, esp as DPs parents are arriving to stay on my due date! Hope things happen quickly for you now.
rachel jealous of your pedicure, my toes are a disgrace, need to sort them and my bikini line asap!
MDM glad to hear you are ok after your trip, bit shocking isnt it? I skidded down the last few stairs yesterday. LOL at schipos suggestion of us all diving for the pavements. Would consider it, as i am so uncomfortable!
hollyoaks i am waiting for my freind request too, otherwise i might feel left out
Any baby monitor thoughts? am trying to decide between the BT 150 and the leapfrog.
I would def reccomend the BOGOF pizza express too - pigged out and it was amazing so much for the weight concerns!!
SK hope everything is still going well with jacob- such a lovely name.
Have just started dreaming about going into labour, and always wake up dissapointed!

peakyispreggers · 11/05/2010 16:54

cupcake i am so jealous of your MLU! the one here in ipswich is a old grey beast, very depressing and they have stopped doing tours as ''there are too many of you'' to quote my MW. Am about the blood group/labour speed thing, but as I am A+ too, im more than willing to go along with that idea!

pigleychez · 11/05/2010 17:05

Ohhh lots of posts...

Kateyjane- Hope you are well on the way to having your baby now

Alle- Hope the BF group helps and agree there are some helpful sites out there.

SK- Funny you saying about your body knowing as the pains i was getting on Sunday night had gradually over about and hour or so gone from every 10minutes to every 7ish monutes so we were beginning to get abit excited but When my mum started being funny they seemed to just stop! We did joke at the time, maybe baby knew!

Wibblela- yeah ill post some pics I have plans for the inside too.. Little table and chairs, storage for her balls ect but means a trip to Ikea which isnt that local so not sure when that will happen.

Tomlin- My dad has said he will bring Mum if its at night. He would drop everything instantly bless him... Its just my Mum making a drama out of everything!

Rachel- Sounds like your MIL is fab!
My MIL is ok but extremerly houseproud and has set days for each room. - And she really does spend a whole day on each room! Id spend the whole time she was here panicing and tidying/cleaning..... hardly relaxing!

Hobnob- HUge congrats Sorry you had a moody MW but sounds like it all went well regardless. Have you choosen a name yet?

Cupcake- The MLU unit sounds lovely! Theres a new "low risk" unit at our hospital since I had DD but we havent got to see it. Hope I can use it

Tonyveins- Your not a fraud! Enjoy every minute of peace before baby comes

MDM- Hope your OK! That must of been abit scary! Feet up and relax!

Sassles- Thinking of you... Its so frustrating being late isnt it! Soon i promise

Schipo- Asda have the TT electric sterliser on offer at £20 if thats any help?

Hollyoaks- Oh no! Poor DD. Hope her fingers are ok. They are so quick arent they and sneaky.

Pamlet- Glad you had a good day. I rememeber going out for dinner when i was a week overdue. The waitress was showing us to the table asked when i was due and nearly fell over when i said last week! Gave us a nice comfy booth seat instead through

Squirtsmum- Sorry you are feeling down. I remember it well.

Struggled abit this morning after yesterdays painting activity. Woke up feeling like id been hit by a bus!!

Took DD to toddler group this morning which she enjoyed. Lots of little babies there this week so having a good chat with those mummies which bought back lots of memories and has made me even more eager to meet him/her. Made playdough with DD this afternoon so have been making all sorts of animal/ people etc with it this afternoon. Amazing how tired you feel doing nothing!

pamelat · 11/05/2010 17:46

Congratulations Hobnob, sorry not sure how I missed that. Doh. Congrats

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 11/05/2010 18:09

Hollyoaks - I've accepted your friend request!

Pigley - glad you've sorted out your problems with your mum's sudden issues about driving at night / rush hour. Your Dad sounds like a star, am guessing you're a bit of a Daddy's girl!

Am happy to report that there are no ill effects from my tumble this morning, so you can all hold off on Schipo's suggestion that we all go pavement-diving (which made me laugh for ages, the vision of pregnant women all over the country throwing themselves over uneven paving slabs!).

Pamelat and Peaky- you have made me have a craving for Pizza Express, which is dangerous because there's one less than 5 minutes walk from my front door, and it would be so easy for me to phone DH and tell him that I'll wander down to the end of the road and meet him off the train so we can go there for dinner... Would be rude not to when there's a bogof voucher on the website! The best thing is that they do alcohol-free beer too!

Fell asleep for 2 hours on the sofa this afternoon. Lovely.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 11/05/2010 19:03

Congratulations to all new mummies! Hope everyone waiting is doing well

Have finally got home so can post some details. I had Corin on Friday morning via ELCS. He was 7lb1oz which is the same as DD. The delivery went really well. We've both been recovering well but they couldn't discharge me until today because my BP's been high since delivery. It's been a bit frustrating being stuck in but I had a lovely sideroom to myself (because of my BP) so it's not been too bad. Was missing DD like crazy though so glad to be home with her today although she's a bit poorly She's thrilled to bits with her new baby brother though. He's very cute and snuggly.

BFing has been going really well. Corin was put on my chest for skin-to-skin as soon as we were in recovery and started rooting immediately. With help from DH, he latched on for a good hour and has been feeding beautifully ever since. It's been fantastic because I couldn't BF DD - she never latched on so I had to express all her feeds for 2 months before my supply randomly disappeared and I had to give up so I wasn't expecting BFing to work this time, especially with a section.

I'll catch up on the thread properly as soon as I can

MoggMum · 11/05/2010 19:42

Congratulations TCH glad to hear you're home and baby Corin is feeding well. Lovely that your DD is thrilled too - hope she gets better so she can 'help' you with the new arrival

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 11/05/2010 19:54

Congratulations Heffa - Corin is a great name. Good to hear that the b'feeding is going well too.

I have put some pics up on my fb page of my nursery, including homemade quilt. It's now just waiting for a baby in order to be complete! Can't work out how to copy them to the group page, but those of you who have befriended me are welcome to have a nose!

MoggMum · 11/05/2010 19:59

MDM will try and add you as a FB friend so I can see the nursery pics!

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 11/05/2010 20:13

mogg - have accepted you!

Den26 · 11/05/2010 20:49

Hi Ladies!

Alle - glad to hear you and Oscar are home really hope BF gets better for you.

Tomlin - hope LO comes before you need 'stretched'

Hobnob - Congratulations!! Sorry your MW was such a cow, all seems very fast!

Pamlet - congrats on getting essay finished, not sure i'd be able to concentrate that long at the moment, now you can look forward to LO's arrival

Hollyoaks - measurements are Yeah! re last week of work

i was at MW yesterday who is still not happy with my measurements, i'm scheduled for a growth scan tomorrow - a little anxious, hope all ok...

DP driving me mad saying i'm not eating enough and asks for a list of what i've eaten when he comes home from work aargh!! I am eating but have seemed to have lost my appetite and prob not eating as much as i should.

Getting lots of BH too..

Carikube · 11/05/2010 21:02

There've been so many posts recently I thought we needed a new list update but in fact the only new addition is Hobnob. Come on ladies, let's have some more!! (I know, I know, we'd all be on there if we could!)

MDM glad you're ok after your fall! Sounds scary!

tinyveins I've been on mat leave almost 4 weeks and no baby!! And not an ounce of guilt...enjoy you time!

sassles bless you you sound so fed up! Amazing about the balance thing though cos I've found the opposite- I'm way more clumsy and off balance since being pregnant!

peaky yay for A+

hollyoaks your poor dd! I won't be telling my dh that story...he hates my GHDs and thinks they're lethal! Everytime I burn myself he gets all smug.

heff lovely to hear from you and that is so fab about the breastfeeding! Well done little Corin

I saw mw today and all seems fine, head almost fully engaged. Have booked to see her in 2 weeks but will be 40+6 by then so hope I don't make it! I'mactually last in the nct group now as the other girl text me today to say she was being induced as her BP shot up... so I guess it's a cinema date with my bump tomorrow!

LuckyC · 11/05/2010 21:23

Yay hobnob and heffa, massive congrats to you both.

RacquelWelsh · 11/05/2010 21:25

Evening everyone and congrats to all the new mums.. it's great to hear your news and I love the names. Still not decided on a name for our LO yet. I've still got 11 days to go and feel like time is dragging a bit now.

Good luck to Kateyjane and 30ish and hope you see some action soon Squirtsmum and Gils,

Not much to report here. Have had the midwife at home to go through my birthplan and the health visitor came round also yesterday to introduce herself and explain support available to me after the midwife hands over to her 10 days after baby's born. Plan to have LO at MLU in our small town (open 9-5 but "will open up in the night if necessary"!) and hope there's no need for epidural or intervention... fingers crossed . Apart from having to have monitoring once I try breastfeeding (when pituitary tumour likely to go into overdrive and put my vision at risk) midwife, consultant and health visitor all happy (oh, and me too!)

Turning over in bed is now a major operation, but usually ends in laughing at DH making "beep, beep.. warning, wife rolling over.. warning" noises....

Hope everyone is coping and not too fed up

booboomonster · 11/05/2010 22:00

Sorry just a quick post - don?t know where the time is going, seem to be so busy.

heffa congratulations! great name - not disimilar to my own (a female version, obv.) brilliant that the feeding is working!

hobnob congratulations to you too. Bad luck for having a cow for a midwife, but well done for getting through it successfully! Have you a name yet?

I had a dream last night that I went into labour (someone else did too - sorry can?t remember who). It?s made the whole thing more real - don?t know if I feel better or worse knowing what to expect. Anyway, not due for 2 more weeks so still a while in the waiting lounge for me.

Good luck for everybody who is imminent or want to be!

sweetkitty · 11/05/2010 22:04

Evening all shattered so off to bed in a minute. Hard to believe this time last week I was in hospital strapped to a CTG, DP said it was funny when MW said "are you having contractions already, these spikes are pretty big" and I was like "oh I have been having pains like these for a few weeks!" All those BHs must be doing something ladies.
My gorgeous boy is doing well, smelly cord stump fell off today, he had his first proper bath (hated it) and that's been us.

hobnob - congratulations great news, will be awaiting a name now

Raquel - MLU sounds lovely

Heffa - sounds like a good delivery, you didn't know you were having a boy did you??? Lovely surprise, it's odd having a tiny newborn again isn't it? I bet DD seems a whole load more grown up now. Jacob was the exact same weight as DD3 too.

pigley - do you ever take it easy woman?

squirtsmum - aww don't feel down some babies just take a bit longer to cook that's all, nothing you can do about it. Even if you do have to have a section you will not care one bit as the minute you see that little wriggling baby it will all be worthwhile, hang on in there. Oh 2 friends that went 15 and 17 days overdue had babies under 8lbs as well.

pamelat - LO won't come on Friday, they will know Mummy is stressed

hollyoaks - aww your poor DD but don't beat yourself up about it accidents and small children go together, DD2 shut DD3's fingers in the door today, DP was so with her, DD2 is 4 1/2 and should know better.

schipo - thank you, I do have an ironing lady now and DP is very good. As for my not so DM, she won't change a habit of a lifetime, when I was pregnant with DD2 she said "well there's no point in me coming up until she is born" so about 3 months and I ahd a 15 mo and SPD at the time. Then she came up 2 days after she was born and moaned at me that the ham sandwich I had made her was not a bacon sandwich! Kid you not, expected to be waited on hand and foot.

sassles - I weighed myself on the WiiFit today 1st 2lbs weight loss, it does make you feel good seeing your graph dip like that also made Jacob a WiiMii and weighed him 9lbs he was.

MDM - aww poor you with your fall hope you are OK now

cupcake - MLU sounds lovely as well

Right ladies best dash off hopefully the labour fairy will visit some of you tonight x

brightredballoon · 11/05/2010 22:11

Hi girls

Reading the bits about finding it difficult to turn in bed and all the nesting and maternity leave etc makes me feel like it has been far longer than 2 wks since I was pregnant! It now feels so long ago.

Congratulations heffa and Hobnob really good news that the wee ones are feeding well.

Wonder who will be the last one on this thread? C'mon babies!

Does anyone mind a bit of newborn chat whilst we are waiting to start a postnatal one? Anyone give me advice regarding frequency of baths and what are you putting on your baby in ways of oil etc afterwards? I have only given DD2 2 baths as I am topping and tailing her everyday and tbh haven't found a time of day with enough time to do it all (!). I put extra virgin olive oil on her skin and a wee massage after the bath - is there something better to use? Her skin is quite dry but thats from all the vernix she had on her.
Wee hats - do you put a wee cotton hat on your babies when you are in the house? I know they lose heat through their head which is good if they are too hot but my wee one seems to like having a hat on!

Hope everyone is doing well, I am off for a long soak in the bath. DH and I had a day together with the baby whilst the other two were at the childminders, sounds a bit cruel really but its lovely having quality 1-2-1 time and I carried her in the coorie sling so it was great being buggy free (usually we have the double pram and kiddiboard!).

Oh and girls seriously tell me now to stop eating cakes, biscuits and chocolates! We have had so many deliveries of delicious treats which is thoughtful but I have no self control (have been blaming it on breastfeeding!) and am gaining weight which is not what I want!

Right, off for that bath...

schipo · 11/05/2010 23:35

brb, bring on the newborn chat

I thought vernix was a moisturiser!?

Gils · 12/05/2010 00:00

Heffa and hobnob congrats
brb loving newborn chat. Def bf fault re eating cakes. Takes a lot out of you!
Just quick post. Feeling bit dodgy tonight. Pains and large mucus discharge. Only thing is baby still moving a bit. Can't remember if dd did last time. Trying not to get excited. But already made list for dh of things to do while I am in and snuck in for cuddle with dd. Gonna feel really daft tomorrow when nothing happens. Actually got very nervous about labour

memorylapse · 12/05/2010 08:15

BRB...I think you burn an extra 500 calories a day through BF..so Im sure you can indulge a little
Olivia has dry skin too..Ive been rubbing baby oil on her skin after a bath..cant beat it

Gils · 12/05/2010 08:30

Hey all false alarm. BH got worse and worse then nothing from 430. Fed up today.

pamelat · 12/05/2010 08:55

Morning all, woke up at 445am wide awake and hungry!! Got up and came downstairs for my breakfast and bump never stirred, am taking that as a good sign. Aren't there sleep patterns meant to be shown in the last few weeks of pregnancy???? He started stirring about 6am which will suit me just fine

Am now not so awake (ie knackered!!!) and off back to bed with my toast. DD tomorrow and Friday so making the most of it!!!

Due TODAY, and our 3rd wedding anniversary, and DH is ill. He went to the docs last night or diagnosed an infected gland in his throat, really swollen. Said it should be fine around newborn as not contagious.

Am going to have a sorting out day, re-check hospital bag, clear out under kitchen sink and tidy up, after an hour back in bed, bliss (I could get used to this )

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 12/05/2010 08:56

Morning all!
No signs of labour for me overnight! A good night's sleep though, so feeling pretty good today, and no sign of any after-effects from yesterday's tumble .

BRB - definitely keep the newborn chat coming, it's lovely to hear how you're all getting on, and as a first-timer, I also find it really useful to hear all the advice in response to the questions about dealing with babies!

Raquel - fingers crossed for you with the MLU. I'm aiming for the MLU too, but ours is within the hospital, and actually on the same floor as the hospital birth centre (they are basically the two arms of an 'L' shaped corridor), so if interventions or epidurals are needed, you only have to move a few metres down the hall!

Cupcake - sorry you're the last one left from your NCT group. I suspect I'll end up being last in mine too. We've got our weekly meet-up today, so I'll get to meet the baby that was born last week. Hopefully next week's meet-up will be at my house, and I'll be introducing them all to my LO (positive thinking!).

SK - Hope DS's jaundice is getting better.

Right, better tear myself away from the TV news, which I was glued to all yesterday evening, and then go and have breakfast then shower and wash hair!

Hope everyone has a good day. I wonder how many birth announcements we'll get...
