wheredidmyfeetgo What a total pile of poo - your situation and the 'man'. I'd second what littlerobbo said.
Can't believe what a total arse he sounds...just wondering now what would you do if he came crawling back?

Mampam - dp and I are POLES apart on the name front...but I know I'll have the final say when the baby arrives! Frankly he won't have a leg to stand on after I've been through the whole birth thing! I think I'll end up going for something quite 'tame' and popular as, although I really love unusual names, I just can't imagine myself saying them to my own child.

Slept SO badly last night. - woke in the night with 'restless legs' and couldn't go back to sleep. Anyone else get this? I'd forgotten (since last pregnancy) how hideously annoying it is.

georgee · 23/04/2010 09:52

Ooh many thanks for the pregnacare/day/folic acid info madamefreckle - I have started taking them again! I agree on the names, I think I'll end up with something tame too although I love the idea of something unusual - we've basically given up thinking abot names because everyone we ask has a different opinion and we got confused, so it'll be a last minute scramble I should think once the baby's here and we have to register her! We call her Phyllis at the moment - she might be stuck with that if we can't think of anything better!

wheredidmyfeetgo I'm so sorry about your fiance - how incredibly spineless and sh*t of him. You must be in a daze at the moment. Keep in touch and let us know how you're getting on.

Just been to the doc's for 32 week check up. All well and head down at present! Hoping to keep it that way. Baby quite lively for a fair bit of the time these days - have a feeling she won't sleep much when out ...

Sorry for those sleeping badly. My sleep suffers due to stuffy nose, heartburn and just general discomfort from only being able to lie in one position - generally get a few hours though. Hope last night was better for you all

greensnail · 23/04/2010 13:42

We're actually getting closer to some sort of agreement on the name issue, helped by the fact that I'm warming to DH's first choice for a girl's name, so hopefully we won't end up with a nameless child for too long.

I'm hanging around waiting for a bed to become available for me to go and get my 2nd dose of iron injection today. Was told to ring first thing, and then again at 1pm, but they still have no beds so I've to call again at 4pm, which is quite good really as DH should be home from work to look after DD by the time I actually get to go.

mampam you could always use tea towels if you run out of muslins! And have you called the hospital yet? [nagging emoticon]

OP posts:
mampam · 23/04/2010 14:00

Yippeee I've finally managed to get through to the hospital
However, just as I thought, there was no appointment for me in the pipeline, I was asked why I wanted to see the consultant so there's probably no record of me needing to have a c-section

I can only be seen at a 9am appointment because I'm not being scanned and the consultant only likes to see those being scanned at later appointments so as not to keep them waiting Early start for me a week on Wednesday!!

Got a MW appointment on Monday so will see what she says about it.

Sergeant Major Gizmo you'll be pleased to know that I've got an appointment with a Health Visitor next week, so will discuss my low mood with her and I want to discuss the fact that I had PND (anxiety/panic attacks) after my last pregnancy just to make her aware.

The name thing is totally doing my head in at the moment. DC's names aren't far out there but they aren't bog standard names ie John, Edward, Peter or Emily, Jane, Sarah if you get my meaning so the name we choose needs to fit in well with DC's names too.

DH and I both really liked Freddie for a boy but DD hates it with a passion and I just fear she will never let us forget how much she hates it......not worth the hassle. Next choice for a boy is Zac, DH is super, super keen, I was but now I've got doubts because:

a) it's becoming quite a popular name
b) this is going to make me sound stupid but I can't imagine a Zac as a Doctor, lawyer, high flying business man etc

Stupid reasoning I know. Thing is we really can't find any other names for a boy that we both like!!!! Aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrgggghhhhh!!!

herewegrow · 23/04/2010 14:37

Hi all,

Looking forward to some sun this weekend? We are planning on a quietish one with some nice walks, being in the garden and going to the park.

I've finally got my pram (a P&T). Will need to put it together this weekend to make sure there aren't any missing parts etc might give it a test run too

We were decided on a baby name but since this we have changed it twice. So for the time being we are agreed.

LaTrucha · 23/04/2010 14:45

We've settled on one of two names, but we may add another if we can find it. Our main doubt is that our two names are common in both Spain and GB, whereas DD's name is rare in both.

We were also thinking of Eder, but we only got 'it seems like Edward done wrong' sorts of responses. Also like Iker but English speakers would pronounce it wrongly.

I've got a nasty cough (and also TWO HOURS of heart palpitations and breathlessness last night - is this normal?) but my lovely friend took DD this morning and she has had a whale of a time while I have slept. In fact, she's now quietened down in her cot, so I'm going back to my book and the sofa, and probably sleep.

Not ready for baby here: no hospital bag ready, no maternity pads, about 4 newborn nappies, no pushchair solution, no cot, no monitor, moses basket in the loft (no new mattress bought). We do have a mountain of vests and babygros (and muslins ) though.

Tell me I'm not the only one, or give me a kick up the arse. I AM only 30 weeks. So exciting that some of you ladies are getting so close. Can't wait.

herewegrow · 23/04/2010 14:59

LaT I'm not organised yet either. Have baby clothes, sleepsuits, vests and muslins that will need to be dug out and washed. Baby has no where to sleep yet and no car seat. I'm also only 30 weeks so we still have time to get everything ready.

mampam · 23/04/2010 16:09

Oh my god you 30 weekers, I'm about as organised as you and I'll be 35 weeks on Monday!!

Having a bit of a flap about what to pack (I assume I will be in hospital for 2-3 days) and also what the hell to put the baby in when it comes home??? We have nearly an hours drive home, it could be a scorching hot day, will it need a vest and a babygrow? What about a cardi? A blanket?
Bloody hell, these are things I've wanted to ask my MW but I don't really feel I can.
Also what does it need to wear at night??? It's going to be summer. DS was born in May too but I can't remember 7 years ago HHHHEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPP!!!

LaTrucha · 23/04/2010 16:52

Round here it's quite normal to be in for 5 days after a c-section but it may be different where you are.

It is very useful to take in an extra pillow if you have a c-section - preferably one o fthose long maternity ones. It means you can bf rugby ball style rather than in a cradle hold across your belly.

I thikn if you take a vest, babygro and cardigan, perhaps blanket you'll be covered for all evetualities! Sunshades on the car windows? I don't know as we don't drive.

You could use the blanket to swaddle him at night if it's cotton. They swaddle in my hospital. My SIL is in Cordaba where it's baking and her newborn is just in pyjamas.

There are lots of threads on hospital bags here. I have one stored somewhere and will look it out when DD stops shouting at me.

fillybuster · 23/04/2010 17:07

I think Zac is a very cool name Mampam and not too popular either - just funky And I can totally imagine a Dr or Lawyer etc with that name...anyway, they'd be called Dr X or Mr Y at work, not Zac, anyway

I'm with LaT in the readiness stakes. Actually, , I'm behind her, as I don't have any newborn nappies at all. And I have no intention of sorting anything out until I start maternity leave somewhere around the 38 week mark. Is this foolish? Possibly...but I reckon any baby/hospital related stuff before that point would be relatively unexpected/worrying anyway, and my 'normal' bag wouldn't be much use for those sorts of emergencies. Anyway, I don't think there's much that dh couldn't find or my dps couldn't buy and drop in if they were needed in a hurry. Is there? [panic emoticon]

Present buying, though, that's altogether more of an issue - must start thinking about that. DD bought DS his very loved 3-storey garage from ELC (clever girl!) when she arrived - his most-loved present ever! No idea what to get them this time...like CSWS my kids are totally spoilt seem to have everything they need!

And names. Really haven't resolved anything there at all. Oh dear...

Hope you all enjoy the sunshine this weekend

imkeepingmum · 23/04/2010 17:14

We think we have agreed on a boy's name with a few "standby names" but jury still out on the girl's. Prefer fairly short names but my favourite so far is quite long and although DH likes it he thinks it might be a mouthful...some more convincing required!

We have most of the big things sorted now (31 weeks tomorrow) but not thought about hospital bags or anything like that yet.

Petifilou · 23/04/2010 17:39

Hi!
I'm 33 weeks with my first and have hardly bought anything. We do have a pram, cot and changing station, but no nappies, muslins, clothes, bedding or car seat. I am starting to stress.

We have agreement on boys names but none whatsoever on girls.

Glad to hear we're not the only ones though!

Mampam - how old is your DD? I was 5 when my brother was born and I remember HATING the name my parents chose, as I hated a boy at my school who had the same name. By the time they'd brought him home from hospital I'd forgotten all about the other boy. You might find DD does the same once she associates the name with a person?

Sunworshipper · 23/04/2010 18:41

Greensnail hope you managed to get in for an appointment this afternoon.

I had to sit in a dermatology dept waiting for an hour and half this afternoon. Have to go back in two weeks to have a mole removed. All my moles and freckles seem to have gone beserk during this pregnancy. Has anyone else had this?

wheredidmyfeetgo - I'm so sorry for all you are going through at the moment. Just when you need the support most. Have you got support from family and friends?

Saw the consultant yesterday and caesarean is booked for 8 June now. Can't believe only just over 8 weeks until I see my little one. Thank god the weather is going to be good this weekend. I am working up to a painting frenzy.

Gradually getting sorted with clothes and stuff but feel like we need to spend a bit more time getting sorted in our heads.

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/04/2010 20:18

sunworshipper - I presume that one of your 8s is a mistype, as 8th June is much less than 8 weeks away!

Welcome petitfilou .

I like the name Zac mampam, especially when short for Zachary, which is a fine name for a doctor IMO.

We haven't really thought any more about names. We'll be fine if it's a girl, but if it's a boy as I suspect then we will have to try and pick the best of our shortlist, as I don't think we have 'the one'. (Well, to me the one is Jesse, but dh will never agree).

I hadn't even remembered that I'd need to get newborn nappies or maternity/night pads until you guys mentioned it, so I think I prob win the least organised prize. The only thing that I've done is order the double buggy.

MonkeyMargot · 23/04/2010 20:22

Evening all!
Hope your iron injection went OK greensnail.

Question for filly and csws and all those with 2 DCs already. Did you find you went into labour sooner with DC2 than DC1? I was 12 days overdue last time, just wanted to know if that is more a symptom of a first-timer or not.

Names are so hard to agree on. And I know it sounds daft but I'd prefer to see what the babies looks like before making a final decision. My mum always had another name in mind for me, but it just didn't suit when I popped out.

Still shedloads to organise here too, but like filly will do most of the organising when I start MAT leave. I work from home on Weds, and am trying to do one or two small jobs that need doing like clearing some drawers in our room to make space for baby clothes.
Need to order double buggy and cot. And dig out newborn clothes to wash etc.

Was at home this afternoon as DH was hosting an NCT coffee afternoon. Our DD got bitten by a little boy and she has the most enormous bruise poor thing. She is always getting bitten - I think it's because she's quite plump - her arms look very juicy!

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/04/2010 20:31

I hate to tell you MM, but my ds (no2) was later than my dd (no1). Dd was 6 days over, and ds was 9 days over, despite the induction beginning at 5 days over! I would think that with twins it's a slightly different scenario though. I don't think I've ever heard of twins being late actually.

Sunworshipper · 23/04/2010 20:34

CSWS oops yes, just over 6 weeks not 8 weeks. I'm in denial!!! Like your choice of Jesse.

Mampam Zac is a great name and if he does become a doctor then he'll sound very approachable to his patients!

MonkeyMargot your poor DD. She's obviously too delectable for words. Does she ever bite back?

MonkeyMargot · 23/04/2010 21:10

oh dear csws. Was being induced very painful? I think I will prob end up being induced as they don't like twins to go over 37/38 weeks.
sunworshipper no, DD doesn't bite back. She's very good natured. It doesn't help that she got punched in the face repeatedly yesterday by another boy at Gymboree. She's had a rough week!

justbeme · 23/04/2010 21:49

Evening!
MonkeyMargot - both my DD's were born 11 days late, so I don't believe my due date this time and have added 10 days on in my head. However, last night someone said that as this baby is being so very naughty and is still lying across me horizontally at nearly 35 weeks, then it has to be a boy and by the look of me Im definately going to have this one early!!!!!

I need to read that Spinning babies website, as I really want a home birth.

We took nearly a month to name DD2 and haven't discussed names yet. When I look back on the list that we had for her though, there's no way she could have been called some of those names - so i agree that it's cool to wait to see what the baby looks like.

I've decided not to wash the stored baby clothes from last time - they were washed when they were put away and they are only going to get puked or pooed on within a few hours, so I don't see why I should go to all the effort - is that really bad of me?? (Can you tell it's my 3rd!!)

justbeme · 23/04/2010 21:53

WDMFG - So sorry to hear your news. I can't imagine how you must feel. You'll have to look to see if there is a Homestart near you as they can help. As everyone else says - feel free to vent on here.

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/04/2010 22:08

justbeme - I guess it depends how/where they have been stored. I wouldn't want to use them a few years on (if I'm correct in remembering that your dd is more than just a toddler) if there was a chance of them being a bit musty or anything.

MM - The pain got intense quicker with the induction (well, once it got going at least - the first 4 days were mostly just boring!) but it was also over quicker. I wouldn't say that it was more painful at all, no .

madamefreckle · 23/04/2010 22:17

sunworshipper - my freckles are joining together like crazy (loads more than normal) and I've only had a few hours here and there out in the sun, with a hat on AND suncream. Still, everyone keeps asking whether I've been away as I look so tanned . Freckles definitely have their advantage sometimes.

mampam - Glad you finally got through to the hosp. I also really like Zac. A Zac could be anything!

georgee - Phyllis! Love it! Classic name for a bump. It'll probably stick.

LaT - 2 hours of palpitations etc - you poor thing! Your cough combined with lying in a certain position probably brought on the breathlessness. I find that if I tune into the breathlessness and start worrying about it then it brings on the palpitations. If it happens a few times, mention it to your doctor but it's unlikely to be anything to worry about. I often find it's best to get up for a bit, take some deep breaths of fresh air out of the window, drink some cold water and repeatedly tell myself that I'm really fine.

madamefreckle · 23/04/2010 22:52

Oh, here's a link to hospital bag tips

AAAAARRGH! I haven't even started to get anything ready for the baby - and she'll probably be here in 6 weeks.

dinosaurinmybelly · 23/04/2010 23:23

So sorry to hear your news WDMFG and hope you are getting some support in RL. Please feel free to vent on here as often as you like and I know it is hard, but it would be such a pity if this were to completely prevent you from enjoying this special time. Remember that all of this is happening because there is something going on with him - and when that all sorts itself out life will be better for you all, whether you are back together with him or not.

I'm also 35 weeks on Monday mampam and haven't even started thinking about my hospital bag, but DS1 was 4 days late and DS2 was 2 days late, so I'm a bit complacent.

Also still undecided on names - with both the boys, I thought I would like an Irish name like Saoirse or Aoife if it was a girl (I am Irish), but I've gone off those a bit, and Zoe keeps popping into my head. My husband is not convinced though...

dinosaurinmybelly · 24/04/2010 02:27

Meant to say that I love both Freddie and Zac for boys. I agree that you may find your DD comes around after the baby is born, so don't rule Freddie out just yet, especially as you both really like it.

Have come across some beautiful girls names over here when I meet other Mums etc - met a little girl today called Cosette who is called Coco for short. There is also a little girl called Vivi in my son's class and I think that is a lovely name. There is also a Bailey and a Riley (not Rylee - that was so funny). I've always loved Charlotte, Martha, Grace and Kate - but other friends / family have beaten me to those... just listing these in the hope it may inspire some of you. Please share your favourite girls names / ones you would use if you could, if you have time, as I too need inspiration....
