So sad for you Meggy hope you and your friends family are getting lots of love and support.

Filly i think i have caught tummy bug also, feel really rubbish

Just wondered if anyone else has feelings of being 'saddlesore'??!! i know it sounds weird but for a few weeks now i have had an achy groin,as if i'd done a 10 mile hike or something,i've never had it with previous pg's. Its probably just me

greensnail · 08/03/2010 16:24

LittleRobbo you've just described exactly how I feel. Have been struggling to find the right words but "saddlesore" is exactly it! Did you have the same job in your other pregnancies or were you able to sit down more? I felt exactly the same last pregnancy and I also have a job when I'm on my feet all the time.

YES littlerobbo!! Tis very strange although i think i did have it with previous pg too.

Just trying to work out what we need to buy for this baby - do you think it's okay for him to sleep in a travel cot for the first couple of months as opposed to a moses basket? i guess the real pain is going to be bending right down to get him in & out...

Very sorry to hear that Meggy, sorry I had not realised it was as serious as that

Hope everyone else is well.

Thanks everyone

Yes, littlerobbo I get that too, anytime I have to walk even the smallest amount or stand up for any amount of time - cooking, washing up, ironing etc... actually, maybe I just don't like housework

I know exactly what you mean and wondered if it was just me too.

minimoo - the mattress in a travel cot isn't supportive enough to be used every day for that long I'm afraid.
Worth looking out for used moses baskets on ebay or freecycle though, and just getting a new mattress (about £13-£15) to go in it. I managed to get one with a stand for a fiver last time!

Hi all. Nice new thread.

Meggy so very sorry about your friend. life really is precious isn't it? It's a shame we probably lose sight of this from time to time.

I have only just started on the Gaviscon (well Tesco's own cheaper version) have managed to keep HB at bay with a glass of milk so far but after a chinese take away on Saturday night a few swigs was definitely needed!

Had my first ante-natal class on Thursday. Was a bit boring as they just covered the 3 stages of labour. Boring as I've already got 2 DC's and boring because it's not really relevant to me this time as probably going to have a CS. Was very amusing as there were a couple of first time mums there who as you would expect were a little clueless (as we all were back then) but seemed to have totally lost all common sense and in the other extreme were the ones who already have DC's and thought of themselves as seasoned pro's and probably put the fear of god into those poor 1st time mums
There was a gasp of horror from everyone when the midwife asked if anyone had had a 3rd degree tear and I said "yes because my son was 10lb 14oz" and another gasp when I told them I'd given birth to him naturally with no pain killers

TBH I don't think I'd bother going again but with my non-hectic social life at the moment it gets me out of the house for a couple of hours a week. Now I've got my crutches I can do a little more. (Mental note to myself to get there earlier as all comfy seats were taken and I'm not sure my pelvis will cope again for 2 hours on hard chair ).

Have got my Sphicter scan on Wednesday morn and also the GTT. It's all at the hospital and have to be there for 08.50 which means leaving home at about 07.30 at the latest. I'm going to be soooo hungry and not used to being out and about at that time of the morning [hides in shame as the commuters amongst us want to strangle me]

Forgot that next Wednesday I'll be on a training course with the charity I volunteer for. My diary hasn't been this hectic for months

How is everyone sleeping now?

Hello everyone - just wanted to enter another heartfelt vote of thanks to Mr Gaviscon... Have to say that I didn't realise that the full heartburn/kicked in the f*nny/waddling would start quite this early! Also have just realised that as far as I can see I am the oldest on the stats list - can't decide whether to be proud or appalled... I'm 43, you know, I say FORTY THREE, DEAR!!

ooh shiny new thread..thanks Greensnail

ive been suffering a bit with heartburn and braxton hicks.
i have to say im happy to tell anyone who asks that ive only 15 weeks to go and its great, i dont enjoy feeling like im 90 years old (sore, tired, achey) but i am really looking forward to those new baby cuddles.
Had my little 6 week old nephew cuddling up to my neck yesterday, so soft and sweet

Some saleswoman today selling family portrait gift cards assumed i was having twins" oh its only one baby i thought it was twins!" seriously like ive lost weight and im definitely only having 1 baby.(have had enough em-scans)

So bascially "you look massive and your not due til june"

must get my answers ready for tomorrow ive a hair appointment...no its not twins..... no i dont know what baby is and no its not my 1st.

Hello ladies, ooh - shiny new thread.

So sorry about your friend meggymegmegs - how appallingly quickly the whole thing happened.

littlerobbo and others - another big YES to the saddlesoreness - that describes it perfectly. I spend a significant portion of my working day scrambling around on the floor with 3 and 4 year olds, whcih I don't think helps.

elena - sounds like a great age for it! I have a lovely 47-year-old friend who's mum to a 3-yr-old daughter and thinking about trying for a second

Sore nether regions, raging heartburn and bizarre dreams aside, I have to say I'm loving this pregnancy I think I must have a happy hormone imbalance, as I was much more anxious and generally up-and-down last time. We've totally failed to move house as planned, and we've hardly got anything ready, but I feel strangely zen about it all atm. Famous last words...

Super new thread title!

Welcome appu and other late-comers to the thread!

Really sad about your friend meggy. So sorry.

Filly - Hope you're feeling better v. soon - You've had a bit of a pants time over the past week or so!

Please could someone describe heartburn to me as fully as possible! I've had this weird pain right at the top of my abdomen just below my sternum that hurts more when i breathe in... it also sends a sort of tight feeling up into the right side of my neck. Heartburn??

Slightly peeved that my mother rang to say "I'm sure you won't mind only having the [family] cot for 3 months... it's just that my second-cousin-once-removed, son's friend [or something] is having a baby in September and I've promised them the cot".

I DO b*** mind!

Report
mampam · 09/03/2010 03:33

madamefreckle Mothers always come up trumps when you really need them to.......NOT! That's quite annoying about the cot. Can you explain that your going to need it beyond the 3 months so she can 'un-promise' it?

justbeme I too have been experiencing breathlessness. It's horrid. It's when I sit or lay in certain positions and I find I can't hold a conversation because I have no puff. I'm wondering if it's going to get worse as the baby gets bigger? My bump does seem quite high up. It's a pain because I suffer with anxiety anyway and really have to fight off having a panic attack which is a similar feeling of breathlessness/feeling like I can't breathe. Think I'll mention it to MW when I see her next week.
How are you feeling now?

I've decided that because I've got a GTT tomorrow I'm going to indulge myself tonight (before 10pm) and have...............scones with clotted cream and jam!
I've been craving it and also pasties (very Devonshire/Cornish) but have laid off the pasties because they are food of the HUGE arse inducing variety and had planned on holding off the scones until the last couple of weeks because again they are HUGE arse inducing (and believe me, my backside is big enough) but now I'm thinking that if it does turn out that I am Diabetic then I won't be allowed to eat clotted cream (which is a cardinal sin around these parts).
So b*gger it, I'm going to enjoy, enjoy, enjoy tonight

Report
CantSleepWontSleep · 09/03/2010 07:56

You would still be able to eat clotted cream if you have gd mampam. It's the scone (or anything made with white flour) that you'd struggle to have.

Hi All,

Sorry to hear your sad news meggy.

I too am starting to develop SPD again, as well as getting acid reflux everytime I lay down. The joys of pregnancy! DH moaning about my snoring as my nose is constantly blocked - I like to think of it as pay back time for all the nights his snoring has kept me awake

mampam · 09/03/2010 09:14

CSWS Clotted cream no good without the scone to put it on although I can imagine myself spooning it straight from the pot

Sorry to hear that meggy

I have been sick again today [unamused] and am totally knackered and just feel full and big and breathless all the freaking time. Have go governor's meeting tonight 5-7pm then a meeting at church for ds's first forgiveness at 7.30pm. I am worried about when I am going to eat- it has been made clear by all that I am expected to attend both!

So sorry to hear about your friend meggy, hope you're getting lots of support in RL.

Enjoy the scone Mampam, that made me think "mmm" , despite the tummy bug! Scones with clotted cream and jam: one of my absolute favourite things

Thanks for all the good wishes Back still v sore, but able to move again now, which is lucky as I was absolutely committed to driving the 150-mile round trip to my head office today to do some management stuff with my new team. Made it here ok, and am going to try to leave early to allow plenty of time to get home but still a little about getting various trains/taxis etc to Manchester next Monday. Tummy bug has, thankfully, eased up - hope you're feeling better too littlerobbo?

Gone totally blank, sorry...will come back when I have something interesting to share

Oh - travel cots: you can buy soft mattress inserts for them which really improve how 'nice' they are, but I would def look into getting a cheap 2nd hand moses basket/cot/crib for a newborn, at least for the first 8 weeks or so. Do you have a friend you can borrow from?

Meggy - Sorry about your friend, what an awful thing to happen.

Glad to hear I'm not the only snorer here, I woke myself up the other night snoring, am quite embarassed about it actually. Mind you like you Mrs always right it is sweet revenge on dp who always snores & now because of spd I can't give him a swift kick in bed as it hurts me too much!

I was thinking about using a travel cot too, we live in a 3 story house, our bedroom on top floor with dd's room on floor below, the baby will be sharing this room too eventually. I borrowed a moses basket but my freind is using it this time, have a carrycot to use downstairs but was thinking something in dd's room & our room would be handy. My other idea was to get a 2nd hand crib with a new matress for our room til the baby can share, do they last much longer than moses baskets? My dd was a big baby & grew out of the moses basket quickly last time but cribs are a bit longer aren't they?

Ladies, thanks so much once again for all your kind words. I'm lucky that my family and friends have been incredibly supportive and dh has been a real rock throughout, letting me cry when I need to and reminding me of funny stories when I need them. He's a good one I am also taking comfort in the fact that I've managed to raise £1,200 so far in my friend's name for the Make-a-Wish Foundation (her family's excellent choice) and am planning a big fundraising night in Sept to continue to make her passing have a positive impact on other people's lives.

In other news I had the second session of my hypnobirthing course last night. I love it! We signed up for a group course, but all the other participants dropped out, so the teacher is giving us one on one sessions for the price of group classes . Dh has surprised me by being completely into it too as he thought it was a bit hocus-pocus before we started. I feel like it's great preparation for us both and it's given him a much better understanding of what to expect and how he can help. So glad I am doing it.

Glad to hear you're a bit more mobile filly, that whole episode sounded horrendous.

madamefreckle I could feel my shackles rising at the cot thing, no advice really I'm afraid apart from to have a calm rational word.

mampam Good luck with the scans
