poguemahone Your story has had me in tears of laughter, I can just visualise myself in the same situation. Glad to know how the sheets are meant to go should I ever need that piece of information

LaTrucha I'm also waiting until after the baby is born to see about getting a double. To begin with I'll just be using a sling and DD's buggy and see how I get on. Think I will probably need to get a double when we move to Devon, but want to wait and see what I actually need when the time comes.

Had my 32 week scan this morning, and all is looking good, although I think I might have had the same sonographer as you MrsAlwaysRight as it was quite rushed. Anyway, I can't complain as we were in and out of the hospital in about 15 minutes, which must be a record for me and I have another scan in 2 weeks time too, so mustn't be greedy! Baby's estimated weight at the moment is 4lb8oz so not quite as scary as yours LittleRobbo, but the abdo circumference seems to be increasing very rapidly so I think I might be heading for a big one too (or an average sized baby born early, as DD was).

Madamef DH does bath or shower pretty much everyday and at the moment he is cleaning his teeth twice a day too. I say 'at the moment' because up until a couple of days ago he was only cleaning his teeth once a day. He now does it twice daily or more because for months now he has had the most horrendous smelling breath, to the point where I either won't kiss him or I have to hold my breath and cringe.
DH being DH didn't take the hint at this or even when I've said "your breath honks, go to the dentist I think you've got gum disease". Only when on Monday he caught a whiff of his own breath and said "what the hell is that smell, it's like dog sh*t" and DC's and I all said it was his breath that he's actually doing something about it!!!

LaTrucha · 14/04/2010 15:46

Hmm, thta's a good point about the P&T suspension. It did feel really good. DD insists that she wants to be able to see the baby, though and knowing her I'm sure she's right. I have a friend who may be able to lend me one for a while, so we'll see.

Millymollymoo - I have a thing against Maclarens. I'm not sure what it is but the handles feel really wide apart and I feel like a real matron pushing one. I may get over it though. They must be popular for a reason!

CantSleepWontSleep · 14/04/2010 17:12

LaT - I've ordered a Baby Jogger City Select double for ds and the new baby, as the P&T isn't rated for the weight of ds in one of the seats (the one that ultimately goes on the back with the younger one in, but has to start at the front with the older one in).
How old will your elder one be when the new one arrives?

Congrats to your dd on her first steps greensnail. very appropriate location indeed.

LaTrucha · 14/04/2010 18:02

She'll be 2.6. I'm not sure if she'll want to walk or ride, but I predict that she will want to ride sometimes at least, and as I don't drive it will make trips locally much easier. I get very confused with all the different name Baby Jogger have: they are all so similar. I'll have a look at that one. On a trivial note, which colour did you go for?

LaTrucha · 14/04/2010 18:15

Ahh, Dh just told me that the only thing he regrets in life is not meeting me earlier so we could have married earlier and had more children (we might go to three, but that's it). Glow.

(It's an extraordinary story, but our paths could have crossed in various places for four years before we did actually meet. In the end, we met in the last five minutes it was possible to do so!)

LittleRobbo · 14/04/2010 18:41

Freckle my DH is an every other day kinda bloke, which is ok by me,i had an ex who was so into personal hygiene i seriously thought he was closet gay, i have not been able to use or smell cocoa butter since because he used to smother himself in it after bathing Way below average size willy too, sorry if TMI!

CantSleepWontSleep · 14/04/2010 19:24

LaT - it's red! They aren't quite available over here yet, though will be soon. It's quite diff from all of their other doubles, as it's tandem rather than side by side.

NizzyNoodles · 14/04/2010 19:36

Just popping in to say hi. I've had the lurgy for the last week so not really been keeping up so apologies if I've missed anything.

LaTrucha have you thought about a buggy board if you're not sure if your eldest will want to walk or ride? We've got one and it works quite well with the girls.

MadameFreckle my DH showers/brushes teeth etc every day

Any miracle cures for sore throats/coughs please let me know!!!

NizzyNoodles · 14/04/2010 19:45

Ooh while I'm thinking about if for those of you who have moved your elder children into beds in preparation for your June arrival which beds have you gone for? We're going shopping for DD2's new bed next weekend so any ideas appreciated.

MillyMollyMoo · 14/04/2010 19:55

The silent night first bed is lovely but my advice is don't buy anything too special, we bought my dream Laura Ashley bed which looked beautiful until the DD's stuck hello kitty stickers all over it, I wanted to cry.

greensnail · 14/04/2010 20:16

LaT aah, lovely. I love a romantic story like that.

NizzyNoodles DD is just in my old bed that I had as a child/teenager. She seems happy enough in it and I'm happy as it has big drawers underneath for storage. Got her a new mattress though!

On the subject of mattresses, what are people doing about buying new cot mattresses or just using the same one that has been used for siblings? I think I've persuaded myself that the new baby will be ok on DD's cot mattress if I wash the cover first. Not sure what to do about the moses basket mattress. I bought a new mattress for it for DD (DH had slept in this basket as a baby, and i think it still had the same mattress!) but my niece and nephew have slept in it since then so I'm debating whether I need to replace the mattress again, or if I'm worrying too much about it.

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 14/04/2010 20:18

Ds has just had his cotbed converted to the bed version, as new arrival won't need it for a good while yet, as will be in basket/crib/amby/my bed for first few months at least.

CantSleepWontSleep · 14/04/2010 20:22

greensnail - i will replace the basket mattress - it's worth £15 to me for peace of mind. We have the pur-flo mattress for ds' cotbed, so it won't need replacing when the baby moves up to it, as the whole thing can go in the wash. If I had any other mattress (as we did for dd) then I would replace it. But I know that not everyone would.

greensnail · 14/04/2010 20:39

Thanks CSWS, you've reassured me that I'm not completely bonkers for wanting to replace moses basket mattress. Will have another couple of months to decide whether I can reuse the cot mattress or not so I suppose I can wait and see how anxious I feel about it then.

Hi Ladies,

Pogue that has to be the funniest thing I've heard in ages

Greensnail shame it was rushed but as you say a bit of a novelty for you to be in and out so quickly and saves on car park ticket!

I've got the next 2 weeks off work then back in for 1.5 days before I finish - Woo Hoo!

greensnail · 14/04/2010 20:53

Definitely saved on the car parking today. I don't bother paying for a staff permit any more since I've been working nights, but I definitely could have got my money's worth out of it the last few months! Enjoy your time off MrsAlwaysRight and give me a shout if you fancy meeting for a coffee

LT, I bought the out and about nipper double for the twins. Obviously have no idea how good it will be yet, but I have two friends with twins and they both have the Nipper. Don't know anyone who has a toddler and and newborn with a nipper though. Everyone seems to have the Phil and Ted. (the one where one sits almost underneath the other). Our reasons for choosing the Out and About Nipper were mostly to do with weight. A lot of the double buggies suitable for newborns are really heavy. I saw one (maybe a mountain buggy can't remember) which was 36kg! Thats about 5-6 stone! The Nipper is only 12kg and I figure I can cope picking that up and putting it in the car (maybe even post c-section) and also use it when they are toddlers. Though will probably buy an umbrella fold buggy once they are older.

Am soooooooooooooo tired at the moment. Unfortunately this is also making me weepy (tears always come easier when I'm tired). However this is my last full week at work. For the next 5 weeks I'm only doing a 3 day week. And then 10 days annual leave and eventually mat leave on the 31st May. Can't wait.

Briefly: not buying a new cot mattress, DH washes/brushes everyday, DD going into a bog standard single bed, probably from argos!

Off to bed now (at 9.15pm how exciting)

justbeme · 14/04/2010 23:07

Mampam - You just made me laugh out loud about the dog s* breath!!!

My DD2 has gone into an Ikea toddler bed -here I nearly bought the silentnight first bed - but may wait for that until she's 5 or so.

My DP showers everyday and brushes teeth twice.

mampam · 15/04/2010 08:36

OK it's official now I Want* This Baby Out Of Me

I can't go on, it's too much. DD was up at 5am after a bad dream and got onto the sofa with me, she's 5'1" and was mightily uncomfy with both of us squeezed on the sofa. Baby then decides to get into the most awkward position which left me breathless. Got back to sleep just before 7am and then DH gets up for work or should I say DH and a whole herd of bloody elephants . That man is totally incapable of being quiet. Well, that's the last time I creep around the house so as not to wake him up.

I just want this baby out of my belly so I can walk normally, have comfortable sleep, breathe easily, not wake up 100 times a night to pee and even sit and stand comfortably.

AND if one more person says to me "not long to go now" I will scream.

Right off to see if DD's bed is comfy enough for me to get into.

greensnail · 15/04/2010 10:05

Oh mampam Much sympathy from me, my DD was also up at 5am for some reason, although luckily she's a long way off 5'1" so much easier to share a bed or sofa with than yours. I wasn't at all amused as I had been up most of the night scratching at my feet with my hairbrush. I think tonight I'll bring up the doormat to keep beside my bed as walking over that barefoot is heaven when I'm really itchy!

Hope you're now fast asleep and will wake up feeling a bit better.

I'm feeling better after sharing a lovely long bath with DD this morning, and now she's gone for a nap so I can relax instead of sorting out her room, which had been my plan.

MonkeyMargot · 15/04/2010 10:40

pogue that is one of the funniest stories I've ever heard - brilliant!!!!!!

Sympathies mampam and greensnail with 5am risings. Not what you need after an already rubbish night's sleep.

Gibbering I am with you on the weepy/tired front. My back is constantly hurting, not sleeping well at night etc. All getting to me. Bring on Mat leave....not til 31st May for me more's the pity.....
Am also getting the outnaboutnipper as 2 lots of twins friends rave about it and it does seem v.lightweight. Good value too compared with e.g. Mountain Buggy.

Just been to osteopath. DH at Gymboree with DD. Should be doing some work but am cooking up some mince I took out of freezer by accident. Not feeling wholly motivated at the mo.

DH does wash but doesn't brush teeth as frequently as I would like.....he is also growing a beard - gross....maybe in retaliation to complete lack of nuptials?

mampam · 15/04/2010 11:25

No extra sleep here greensnail, I'm gonna give DC's an early lunch, send them into the garden and get back on the sofa with my quilt.
Sympathies for the itchy feet. I get a little bit of eczema on my feet which flares up in the summer when it's hot. I've been scratching them a little already but no where near as much as you. How's the all over itching now?

Been down to the greenhouse with DS to sow some Basil seeds into little pots which should have been done about 2 weeks ago for his gardening club at school. Oops! Was tired and out of breath just doing that. Think breathlessness is made worse when I'm dog tired. Anyone else find this??

greensnail · 15/04/2010 11:39

Sounds like a good plan mampam. I'm feeling proud of myself as have finally sorted out all of DD's toys, so am finally beginning to believe we have space for all the baby stuff that will be coming from the loft this weekend. I also got really out of breath carrying some of the bigger toys down to the garden, so yes, I think tiredness does make this worse. Itching seems to be getting steadily worse at the moment, but I think I'm approaching the point of my pregnancy where it was worst with DD, so hopefully it will start to improve in the not too distant future!

meggymegmegs · 15/04/2010 13:15

Hi everyone,

Madame DH showers and washes hair every day and brushes teeth twice a day. I couldn't stand it if he didn't as am like a sniffer dog too. In fact, in early pregnancy, even his very respectable routine wasn't enough and I just couldn't stand the smell of his skin . Saying that, at that point, even my own skin smelt disgusting so he really didn't stand a chance!

Had an amazing day yesterday with 3 of my closest friends at a day spa. I had a sumptiuous mother to be treatment which involved a facial, full body massage and even a mud pack on my bump, 1.5 hours of bliss! Only downside was that I couldn't use the infinity hydropool but my lovely friends kindly waited until I was in for my treatment before going in there so I wasn't left out

LaT Your DH sounds lovely
