Morning - just checking in really as the thread moves so fast.

Caitni & donttry - if you're still around, just chill. You've got DAYS if not a week or two left yet. Homebirths sound fab but the birth really is only the start. Think baby not birth! I'm trying to think of it as a due period of time - ie anything between 38 and 42 weeks. Although no doubt this zen like state will fall apart and i'll be getting itchy for an arrival after my due date too.

DB - oh yes, I'm so with you about nobody giving a stuff about my general state of pregnancy this time round. My Mum has taken herself off on holiday back at the end of the week - outrageous, I need her available on demand!!! How dare she have her own life . DH seems to grudge any allowances for pregnant state (unlike last time when he couldn't do enough to help out). He currently has a cold serious case of flu which is making him v grumpy indeed. I think it's only friends who have recently also given birth or are pregnant who seem to care. Maybe i'm just feeling sorry for myself but I would like a little bit more attention!!! [diva emoticon]

Hello, can I join this thread? I have been on the February thread thinking/hoping I wouldn't go over my due date (Feb 25th), but I am 41 weeks today and am resigned to this baby not coming out quite yet... my induction is booked for this Sunday!

There are a couple of names on here I recognise from the Feb thread... there doesn't seem to be much going on there anymore, as most people have had their LO!!!

I have had rogue contractions all week that lead to absolutely nothing. DP and I are trying everything, sex, comedy clubs, acupuncture, foot massage, bumpy roads, curry, curry, curry, more curry, lots of long walks although the baby is so low down I feel like I've got a watermelon between my legs!

donttrythisathome · 04/03/2010 12:21

Thanks for all the kind words and good luck my fellow overduers!

Just back from the midwife and she said I CAN have a homebirth even if I am over 42 weeks (as I've just seen blonde said).

Feel much better able to focus on going with the flow now that I can forget about dates and the 42 week cut off point. I know its the baby and not the birth that matters but I've just been unable to unclench the jaw the last few days!

Anyway really am off to re-find me zen now. Sending positive vibes to everyone....and I'll be back....

MummyElk · 04/03/2010 12:23

Hello all
welcome absb and sounds like you are doing all the right things, well done on keeping a calm head about it all!

completely agree with swings as well, you make a good point there girl about it being the start of a journey. I remember being so shocked after the birth of DD that i'd done THAT and hadn't actually thought an OUNCE about having a baby?!!!
My yoga teacher gave me good advice first time round (i haven't bothered seeing her this time round ) which was that everyone has a ticket for their birth. Some are golden tickets and will have lovely births, regardless of their preparation, some don't have quite the golden ticket, some might have a very managed birth ticket etc etc...The point being, The Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men and all that.... Long as we're all ok at the end of it with lush babies, that's what matters i think.
Right. well on that profound note...i think i've got another migraine coming on GOTTA LOVE THE HORMONES...manic

Anyone having a baby today? Anyone not having a baby and doing anything fun? DD and I went singing. This afternoon we are having a nap.

annamama · 04/03/2010 12:24

Welcome AbsB! at your list at things you've tried... Good luck!

Shroomer · 04/03/2010 12:45

MummyElk - This afternoon I will be listening to my Hypnobirth CD, possibly doing some birth ball exercises (though I promise myself I'll do that everyday, and don't), reading, and trying to ignore the Wispa bar in my cupboard (already had some Greene and Black raisin and hazelnut choc).

PacificDogwood · 04/03/2010 13:06

All you impatient overdue ladies, repeat after me: bump much easier to look after than babe ! Spend as much time as possible indulging yourself, because v soon you will not be able to pee on your own...

I am joking but only a little .

Seriously, good luck to everybody, I really really hope we all get the deliveries we hope for at best, or can live with at least.

DS3 and I are just back from the local animal rescue centre to look at some bunnies . I grew up with rabbits and dogs and much as I can seriously not take on a dog, a rabbit would be fun. We met a very friendly adult female called Harriet that I think I will take the older boys to meet.

Sunny here, I think I will do some gardening.

Welcome, AbsB - your list sounds v familiar - tried all that when expecting DS3 and went into spontanous labour at T+12. Good luck to you!

Henrietta · 04/03/2010 13:50

iwonka at bus I think I would have sat very obviously on the floor - just to make my point!!!
smac congrats and at 11lbs!!
mandaH&K hope baby ok and tries to kick that monitor off - thats been all my baby's trick, and one really scared me by going quiet.
blueydragoncan you send some my way now craving them again...
mum7+4 hope cs goes ok for you - best wishes your way..
DB glad move seems to be right choice. Lots of people on school run ask (no4) how long now, but most of them wouldn't genuinly want to hear me moaning about how fed up I feel by this time, so Id rather they didn't ask so I don't have to say ... yeah fine... saying that I have got a couple friends from church and my sister who DO seem g interested...and hopefully MNers
mandy at your naughty baby at BP/sample - tehy've certainly taken mine every time Ive been in - but then I usually get sent up to triage because of blood group thingy to at washing, close door on mine & try to forget got 4 boxes to iron as I didn't catch them quick enough out of drier...DS2 also 'helps' me (gets clean & dirty mixed up...
caitni & donttry MN only thing that keeps me sane...stops me thinking about how uncomfortable I feel...but then im not even due yet let alone over...
AbsB at watermelon
Pacific sorry but I prefer them out than in when it gets to last month - at least you can PUT THEM DOWN!

blonde36er · 04/03/2010 13:52

This afternoon I shall be mostly watching rubbish telly, filling my face with food and avoiding doing any work on my assignment. All whilst bouncing on the edge of the sofa in the absence of a bouncy ball trying to get things moving following MW visit this morning...couldn't do a proper sweep as cervix closed but apparently fat baby is VERY low, cervix is anterior and soft...what she did was 'excited' it though (that's what she put in my notes!) I've got images of it sitting in there with a party hat and a balloon!

MW was very positive - lots of comments about hopefully hearing from me later today or tomorrow

Don't worry pixie I'm sure the only 'horrible condition' you've got is called pregnancy! I'm so impressed that you've got this far with two inside - it's hard enough to cope with one! Surely it can't be much longer for you now...so hang on in there and keep letting everyone look after you.

blonde LOL at your excited cervix! I'm trying to imagine how the MW managed to excite it and what on earth it looks like in that condition! Hope it has the desired effect at any rate!

Lovely and sunny here today - it's putting me in such a good mood. Add to that the fact that my friend's just brought round her wonderful old crib for DD2 to sleep in. It used to be hers, apparently, and looks really old-fashioned and fab.

Due date tomorrow...and DH is busy all weekend with a school camp. Fortunately he's coming back in the evenings and is only about 10 minutes away if any labour-type things happen, which I doubt! Haven't begun to think about curry or pineapple yet, although my friend who's just had her second DS recommends reflexology. I also have another friend who's an expert masseuse and claims to have helped a few other ladies go into labour - might just dig out her phone number, just in case!

DrSkidaddle · 04/03/2010 15:09

hi everyone and thanks for the congrats

big congrats to smac and your impressive little girl!

thought there'd be a few more babies by now - come on ladies!

pixie eek that sounds scary - hope these babies come soon

all is well here although milk is coming in and boobs are killing me! he is so lovely though, I'll forgive him anything....

good luck to everyone and fingers crossed all the overdue babies hurry up!

BusyMissIzzy · 04/03/2010 17:58

Aww DrSkid Glad you're both doing well. Thinking of all these newborns (and new mums enjoying them) just makes me all mushy.

[Impressed emoticon] at Smac. 11lbs! Is she tall, or just lovely and chubby (or both)? I was a teeny 5lb 10oz at birth.

Pixie glad DH is taking care of you, be sure to take it easy!

Mumof7+4 best of luck for CS tomorrow and becoming Mumof8+4

Heckle a massage that brings on labour? I'll take that phone number too

I had a midwifew appt today (due date tomorrow; can't quite believe that even when I say it out loud) and mentioned that I'd felt a bit of a "leaking" sensation the other day (at Sainsburys checkout no less; wasn't a "gush", but a definite feeling of sudden involuntary wetness IYSWIM). They whisked me down to the lovely birth centre and had another mw check to make sure my waters hadn't broken. It was very surreal being in the birthing room; felt a bit of a fraud not being in labour and all. And my waters haven't broken as it turned out, so I suppose I must have just wet myself a little bit She also wrote on my notes that my cervix is closed (so dunno what these cramps I've had are doing), and the first midwife told me the baby is OP. Bah. Slightly disappointing all round, and oddly anticlimactic.

pureeandpearls · 04/03/2010 19:45

Just checking in to wish you all the best- hoping that nobody goes too far beyond their date, and that we see you all on the other side soon.

PS- bump MUCH easier to look after than baby ;-)

MummyElk · 04/03/2010 19:57

ahhh the lovely puree, nice to see you back! Hope you getting on ok!

Can we please all have some activity on here tonight, the lovely DH has gone out to do a babysitting shift for me which leaves me home alone with a laptop hurrahhh.

busy i hate those anticlimactic appointments!! Still at least you got to look around the birthing suite a bit - it'll be you within a couple of weeks in there, don't you worry!
mumof7soontobe8 good luck tomorrow, hope you get some sleep tonight!

this afternoon's nap was longer than i intended, and, er, much ruder than i intended on the dream front!! I was blushing when i woke up . i blame the hypnobirthing stuff.

right. better do some stuff. hope all well

pah-ha! well i don't know pixie just SOMEthing exciting please!
bit fed up with RL tea btw, it's really not that nice is it.

PacificDogwood · 04/03/2010 21:06

Evening, ladies!

Good luck to mumof7 for tomorrow. I do hope things will go as well as they possibly can and cannot wait to hear your news. Will send wishes for a speedy recovery after all is done and dusted .

No word from mawbroon, hmmm? Interesting...

MummyElk, snort at you blaming the hypnobirthing thing for your adult dreams - I suspect you are a naughty girl ...

Pixie, ready? Here comes the science bit: the upper number of your blood pressure is the pressure on you system when your heart has just contracted ie expelled blood. This is what you can feel as a pulse. The lower number is the pressure on your system when your heart relaxes to allow it to fill with blood again, ready for the next beat. So 80/55 is jolly low - teenaged girls might get away with that low a Bp - but then again they are ones most prone to fainting...
Re your O2 sats: 94% is lowish but assuming it was measured via a probe on your finger quite prone to poor estimations - particularly if your BP was low at the time. Or your fingers were cold. Or you are/were a smoker. Or you had nail polish on. Or - oh, I don't know, but I would not fret too much about that.

blonde, maybe your excited cervix would like to hear more about MummyElk's dream ? Hope things will develop for you, though...

Oh, well, had to collect DS1 from school early and he proceeded to play in the park for about 1 hour rather energetically - only to then have lots of diarrhoea at home . I think he's off school tomorrow - again. There goes my waxing appointment....

Sorry, to anybody I have not namechecked. Hope you are all doing well.

PacificDogwood · 04/03/2010 22:32

Oh, no, Cadbury's - did you not know, it's poison . Galaxy all the way!!
We've already eaten all the boys' selection boxes

I'll just have to keep all my Minstrels to myself .

Pingpong · 04/03/2010 22:47

hello ladies - it's true I had a daughter on Tuesday weighing a staggering 5 kilos or 11lb 1 oz in old fashioned terms. I am still in shock. Everyone thought the baby was big but the growth scan at 38w said 7lb 5 which was about 75th percentile so there is no way that was accurate. I was fully expecting a 9lber but over 11 is just unbelievable!
I now feel totally justified in all my late pregnancy grumbling as I was carrying a huge lump around with me, no wonder climbing the stairs just about finished me and general day to day activity wiped me out!
I'll try and catch up on all the posts and get round to a birth story.
Good luck to those now overdue, you have my sympathy and understanding. I am much happier now baby is out.

Arcadie · 04/03/2010 23:26

Evening ladies - sorry for lack of action elk - I was out chairing a terrifying discussion on Hell at Alpha tonight and then chatting to a chum about PCOS and TTC and other making acronyms.
Am supposed to be giving a talk at Alpha next week and the guy who booked me for it is looking decidedly nervous at how huge I'm getting

smac beautiful photos of BabyMac on FB - she doesn't look HUGE she looks lovely. And DD1 (as she must now be called) looks very proud.

Pacific You ALWAYS make me smile on here. Thank you. Wish you were on FB so I could experience more of the humour in "real life".

Have taken a MW friends advice and started expressing colostrum. She said summat about "expressing early brings labour on on time and then you've got some colostrum in the freezer for when baby comes". I'm getting about 3 drops a day. Not sure I'll bother opening a BF freezer bag for that.....

PacificDogwood · 04/03/2010 23:33

Arcadie, I am too stupid old for FB, just don't geddit ...

Might make another effort as and when I have baba pictures to show off share...

Gawd, I remember expressing 3 drops a day after DS2 was delivered, 'tis soul destroying. And when he was finally given the stuff via his NG tube... he threw it all back up again . But hey, I had no idea it could ensure timely start of labour - not sure I could be bothered, well, I can't, clearly... Maybe you could sterilise a thimble and store it in there ??

Off to bed, night-night .

Arcadie · 04/03/2010 23:43
MummyElk · 05/03/2010 08:23

Morning all
arcadie i thought of you in the bath last night (not in that way, i shall be getting a reputation) as i decided to have a twiddle of the old nipples to see if they did anything yet. The answer is not much. But it was pretty tender?! so hats off to you for properly expressing. How is Hell nowadays? Did anyone at Alpha have an answer? you'll be fine for the talk, and if nothing else, waters going would provide some sort of good analogy for God surely?
pacific thanks for the minstrels alert, you know perfectly well i shall have to make a large grabbag sized purchase today now, don't you.... Now then, do you think you should at least farm the kids off to school at some point in your maternity leave before no4 arrives? I haven't heard much in the way of you putting your feet up....and they ARE old and wizened, you know....
