honey Lovely! I'll bet that's a whole load off your mind now! Bloody brilliant isn't it?

cunty I think as curly says, it's only really if there is a problem of some sort - friend who had her baby a few weeks ago had quite a lot of scans towards the end but there were big problems... We're getting the 4D/vanity scan at around 30 weeks. Then there will be the fortnightly midwife checks too so it's not as though we'll be alone.

Casper Yaaaaaaaay! I'm so happy and excited for you! Yes, we definitely need pics NOW!

Got 24 wk appt with GP on Monday. Mind is a blank of things I need to check on. So far:

  • when is someone going to ask me about my birth plan/where I want to give birth
  • why is one of my boobs hurting so much when I press it
  • ???

Is there anything else I should prompt for info on? I feel like I'm not really participating in this pregnancy as I go blank when faced with the medical profession

skihorse · 06/03/2010 11:59

cunty Don't press the boobs. I have changes to my nips and I dare not squeeze/investigate in light of what happened to cheggers t'other week.

OP posts:
CUNextTuesday · 06/03/2010 12:12

It's not that they are sore ski, there is a specific area on the right one that really hurts when I press it, and when I stretch. Has been waking me up when I move all night.

Can't decide if it's caused by a bra wire, growth/blockage of ducts, mastitis or breast cancer. Noweher else hurts, and I would have thought if it was a product of underwire bra, well I haven't worn one all night or today so it would have sorted itself out. And it's actual pain, not sore or achey. Am vexed.

SilverSky · 06/03/2010 18:08

hi gals.

Hurrah for the weekend. Did some housework today but kept giving myself little breaks as you are not supposed to start any new exercise in the first 12 weeks are ya!

Had lovely ride in the sun with good canter to boot. Going to miss riding when i am a heffa.

SilverSky · 06/03/2010 18:10

Congrats gasbag on your daughter! Lovely news!

skihorse · 06/03/2010 18:21

cunty Could be any or all of those afflictions. Definitely worth asking the doc about but you'll probably get a non-commital "It's normal". As for what to ask, I'd go with:

i) Will my foofoo ever be beautiful again?
ii) Sooooo... what did you get in your GCSEs?

Silversky That sounds lovely - but I think housework and horse is overdoing it somewhat - you're not supposed to knacker yourself out. The house can wait. You can still play with horses when you're a heiffer - I was with my girl last night and she's so gentle around me now - she walks really slowly because I can't walk fast and she keeps sniffing my tum.

OP posts:
SilverSky · 06/03/2010 18:42

ski i plan to do sweet fa from now as reward for being good wife .

No other plans at the mo, except for more riding tomorrow oh and to eat of course!

My horse is just its usual self. No noticeable behaviour changes as yet. Tho that may happen when my bump starts !

GrumpyGasper · 06/03/2010 19:03

cunty sorry about sore boob. if it's any consolation my left one (which is growing more) hurts quite acutely when I move around in bed and more so if getting up from face down IYSWIM - when it's "hanging". I've put this down to growth. Sounds like you are in a lot more pain, so definitely best to ask MW about it. Might as well make them work - and they have good access to all the doctors etc.

At your 24 week app, you want to be getting your form for your spoiling mummy health in pregnancy grant, and your MATB1 or whatever it's called for work, if you haven't got it already. I can't think of much else. I don't think they keep track of movements etc until after 28 weeks anyway.

I have a 25 week app next and just expect the above, a listen to the heart and a fundal height measurement/palpation. Must also get MW on side for waterbirth, because my next app after this is 28 weeks with the consultant.

Thanks for the congrats. we are at the ILs who were chuffed to bits after watching the DVD. And my mum has already been "pink shopping".

Now we're back to the very strained name conversations...

SilverSky · 06/03/2010 19:50

so what names have been suggested that make you want to scream?

My right boob is somewhat bigger than its team mate and even more so due to pregnancy! Husband keeps trying to reassure me that they look about the same as each other. Watch out for me on a c4 doc about my left tit is a size f and the other is a double kk.....

givecarrotsachance · 06/03/2010 20:42

honey absolutely brilliant news! I'm really, really chuffed for you.

cunty never ignore a sore boob . It could be any of those suggestions although obviously BC, being the most worrying, yet the most unlikely given that there's so many other options with you being diffed. Go and see doc as soon as you can - not good being in pain. I'm not sure about the birth plan thing but it's a midwife query, not a GP one - they'll not be involved. I was asked to write an outline one at my first appointment so I don't know. One doesn't normally get another scan after the 20 week one unless there's a concern or what they term high risk. For instance, low growth, anomoly seen at the 20 week, twins+ (eek) etc. This is my experience but some areas may be different.

casper fabulous news! It's great being able to say "my little girl/boy" isn't it I started to refer to ours by my preferred name yesterday just to try to get a reaction from YOB, but true to form, no luck.

So is it one all or is anyone else going to tell all???

More news here - after big panics despite wedding not until May, I have found a dress!

Here's what I bought. I ordered it on Thursday night and it arrived this morning! I got the purple one and it's really lovely. Very floaty and incredibly soft and comfy, and stretchy. Bearing in mind that this is an informal beach wedding, in a hot country, so slightly less formal is ok, I'm really pleased. It's also a nursing dress so I will get plenty of use with it over the summer - bonus! I also ordered this one which looks far too frilly on me, and makes me look very top heavy. That's going back but they gave me free postage and they pay the return postage - how good is that service? Finally I bought these in the coco and ecru, again nursing ones but they are really stretchy so I reckon I'll get a few months of maternity wear out of them. They are organic cotton which I'm delighted with, and feel FABULOUS. Perfect for wearing at work where I'm informally dressed, and just everyday really.

My last purchase was this but although I ordered it in a 16, it's too tight, and I'm really not bigger than a 16, so I'm disappointed about that as again it's organic, which is important to me.

I went out shopping today (which is SOOO not my thing) to McArthur Glen in York. A friend wanted a new dress so I agreed to help. One shop (I think it was Polo) had a sign saying, "three kids items for £50"!!! I nearly fell over! I don't think that I've spent £50 in total on LC's clothes and he's 5 1/2! Well maybe, but mostly his stuff is either from MAC (hence wholesale), or hand me downs, or second hand from ebay or NCT NNSs. I'm a frugal mother and obviously a big part of that is the ethical side of it (I don't want babies making clothes for my baby, or creating a load of chemicals making new clothes/growing cotton etc). Anyway, I was very pleased with the outing as Clarks had a sale on their already discounted stuff and I found two pairs of strappy shoes/sandals kind of thing for £20 a pair, one for the dress with a small heel and another flat for wearing in the summer, and on hols, with trousers or anything really.

Meanwhile YOB took LC to the bookshop to spend a book token he had, then they went for a long bike ride, then we all met (me n friend, her hub and mine, her Gdaughter and LC) at a soft play centre where the kids ran riot for 2 hours and we sat an grumbled over the half-cooked burgers (I sent mine back and it STILL came back half cooked), and how those places are just not realising that they would do much better if they made it a nice place for the adults to go to, as well!

So busy day and I'm knackered. I treated myself to a bath with a fizzy bomb thing (do I dare say Lush?!!!!) which turned the water a yellow colour, and when YOB came in to chat to me he laughed and laughed, determined that I'd weed in the bath!!

givecarrotsachance · 06/03/2010 21:18

ski Have you seen any little babies in the NL in any interesting bicycle contraptions? I have a normal baby/toddler seat which goes on the back of my bike but is only suitable for a child of about 1+. What options are there for smaller babies? I don't like trailers AT ALL - seems like an obvious target for a car to take the whole thing out, but the only other things we've seen are using a 3-wheel special bike which really has a limited life and is really expensive. Is there anything which just straps to a normal bike?

pandora69 · 07/03/2010 07:53

Can I join in here? I don't really know what a besh or a pesh is, but it does seem the coolest place to be on MN. I think they'll get fed up of my pregnant blatherings over on the Tack Room soon so I'll be homeless (internet-ly speaking only, of course,) and have find somewhere else to go.

I have a bottle of home-made sloe gin in a little flask which straps onto the front of my saddle.....

(Just in case anyone is more interested in how preggie I am instead of my alcoholic credentials, I'm 14 weeks with No.2. Child number 2 that is. Not a poo!)

skihorse · 07/03/2010 09:07

Just a quickie as I'm off to the stables in a mo with my potential new sharer!

SilverSky Feel free to get your baps out on C4's "embarassing bodies" - but I don't want to see your anal prolapse/bum grapes/anal warts or minging feet. In fact I find manky feet more sickening than bums. In fact, why do they always air that show during dinner time?

pandora Welcome back in to the throng. BESH = Barren Evil Selfish Hag - i.e., someone who was busy with their career/gin/shagging until their 30s rather than marrying the first boy they kissed aged 16 and all that entails. PESH = Pregnant Evil Selfish Hag. And of course you know poniez and horses are well appreciated around these parts.

carrots I bought a Disney winnie the pooh hooded bathtowel for the little person as it was reduced to 6.25 euros. Feel my big spending! I also ummed and aahed over a set of 5 babygrows but two from each pack had either boy or girl written on them. 5 euros for 5 though... bargain! Don't worry about being "frugal", cossie and I are equally tight careful.

rots I will think about the bike thing... but off the top of my head can only think of forward trailers rather than backwards ones but I'll check a couple of bike websites.

Ah! Now I see! I'm obviously not barren, (unless by that you meant not-in-that-immediate-moment-pregnant,) as I have managed to produce one shetland-jockey already. OH is mightily distressed to discover that he has the fastest sperm in the West but I managed to keep my legs crossed (not actually crossed, you understand,) till my 34th birthday with the first one. How pleased was I as I laid there in the maternity high dependency unit hooked up to all kinds of machines, to read an article in the paper that 34 was THE best age to have your first birthday. See? My daughter knew those 2 days of misery were all so she could go 'ta-da!' when I was 34. I was far too busy galavanting round the world and building up my pony empire to have children before.

Now I am closer to 40 than 30, I let OH have another night of nookie and here we are again. I didn't join in sooner because I had no proof of a baybee, other than the fact I've put on a stone and look like I've swallowed a bowling ball, and according to OH I have raging hormonal mood swings - but he can bloody well shut up about those because he has no idea! We had a private scan though 10 days ago, and it turns out there is a baybee in there. Scan was lovely. Then we had an NHS scan which we decided to take DD to (she is 2) and it was crap. Made me realise why I can't stand hospitals.

So hellooo!!! to everyone!

PS does anyone mind if I used to drink Bacardi? (as well as gin, of course!)

givecarrotsachance · 07/03/2010 12:45

Hey pandora - welcome! Haven't I heard your name around here before to do with OMGPoniez or something? I'm not barren either, and neither is ponymum - we both already have one (me a boy, 5, Pony a girl, not sure how old but I think about 2). Obviously the PESH lot aren't actually barren either, but there you go.

Tell us about your poniez and when you've done that, your current baybee.

Sloe gin - I used to make that with a neighbour who'd made it for years and had a fab ageing stash . They eventually moved to North Scotland which was a shame, as they took the gin with them . It is my belief that the only gin is a sloe gin, but I suspect that some people here would find my views on gin repulsive.

ski actually having done hours of research last night, it seems that the general concensus is that bicyling with a baby under 1 year is actually too dangerous anyway (head shaking etc). So it looks like we will need a different strategy, such as me following them in the car with the babe . If you notice anything, let me know but don't waste any time on it (but thanks xx). One other thing, you're coming in May, not March, right?

givecarrotsachance · 07/03/2010 12:49

"I didn't join in sooner because I had no proof of a baybee"

You mean you can't build a wendy house for the new arrival out of pee sticks?

Well I don't know about you other girls, but I'm not sure that Pandora's menkul enough to join THIS group, eh?

(Or was it just me who did that? )

Oh and Bacardi is evil. I used to like it, when I knew no better, but now it's evil. So I do mind.

SilverSky · 07/03/2010 14:03

You cant beat a mojito tho!

Welcome pandora! We likes horsey folks so we do.

Ps. ski Too early to have bum grapes yet! Now doubt they will pitch up. Anyone having trouble "going" yet?

Pps. Think have over done it today. Pains in tummy. Now feels like pulled muscle. Lifting heavy haynet. Husbands advice was to feed less hay. He is sooooo helpful its untrue.

Ponymum · 07/03/2010 14:51

Hello pandora. silver Funny you should ask about "going". Had a lovely experience this morning where I managed a little something after half an hour in the loo with a book, but it felt like I had only done half a job, if you know what I mean. So I have just taken a Fybogel sachet and we shall see what happens...

Having a lovely day in the sunshine. Went for a ridge-top walk with MrP and the foal - at least, they walked (foal in backpack) while I hobbled along the track for a bit on crutches with octopus support belt. They carried on along the track to the next village where I met them in the pub carpark, and we had a lovely Sunday roast in front of the fire. The foal charmed everyone within a 20 ft radius and I got to worrying that the next one is going to be a little demon to make up for the sweetness that is the foal. (Does it work like that? I'm sure we don't deserve two as nice as this.)

Ponymum · 07/03/2010 15:00

Oh, and please see the link in this thread. Illustrated guide on how to make babies. Not that you lot need it though. Do you think the BESHes would appreciate it? It could make all the difference.

pandora69 · 07/03/2010 16:46

Oh, someone mentioned Mojitos! That's so unfair - I have another 6 months at least before I can have one of those. Although if I am lucky there will be an Indian summer and I'll be able to sit outside in the late summer sun with a shifty pint of Mojito or two.

As for the ponies and baybee; I have a really huge white horse who was up for sale as a hunter but after today is going to be re-advertised as sausagemeat. (He catapulted his rider - not me! - over his head at the smallest jump on the course. Bad boy!) He is a high maintainance athlete, ya'know, and I've realised what I really need is a safe conveyance between drinking opportunities that won't frighten the children. Then I have a minute Shitland pony who is evil on legs but does seem to be good with DD, so we let her off.

DD is 2.7, a redhead, with a little curl right in the middle of her forehead. Yes, she does live up to the reputation! She is being quite sweet right at the moment - she is singing me the Roary Racing car theme song. I hope one day to be able to train her up to get me my horses ready for me to ride out on without me actually having to do anything (well, that's how I learned!)

givecarrotsachance · 07/03/2010 19:58

Bugger that panpan. I've just done my Delia thing tonight - made dinner and at the same time made a huge casserole for a couple of meals next week which means no cooking for at least two nights after work when I'm knackered (hurrah). Anyway, for some reason I decided to use a recipe this time. Jamie suggested 2/3 bottle of red wine so considering that YOB is teetotal and LC is only 5 and therefore really too young to drink, the only options were tip it down the sink or drink the rest myself.

Now we all know the benefits of red wine, so I'm quite sure that they'll be benefits to carrotseed as well. In my defense I only had one glass.

That actually makes two this week... after a long and intensive sesh at the solicitors over ex's ongoing court case YOB and I popped into Pizza Express for lunch and I decided on a glass with lunch and another glass of tap water (first time in about 6 weeks - the wine, not the water, hopefully obviously). The waitress batted not an eyelid which I was miffed over, so I said, "ahh, you know, baby wants wine" and patted my stomach. At which she continued to not bat, and just said, "Pinot Grigio ok?" to which I replied, "no, just normal tap water please". She laughed and replied, "It's Harrogate, not Covent Garden, love. I don't know what comes out of their taps elsewhere...". Most mortifying and I clearly had to explain that while I'd HEARD "pinot grigio" my brain had interpreted "San Pelligrino" which as we all know is evil Nestle, and I had THOUGHT that she was referring to the water .

So I have now decided that trying to shock waitresses is getting tedious, and instead I'm just going to wait until the baby is born and ask for "a glass for me, and one for the baby, please", or something equally stupid.

How actually big is your huge horse?

Your DD sounds very cute. pony I'm also concerned about the "can I get two really nice ones". So many people say if I had DC first I'd never have had another...

We have already discussed Shetlands on this thread and pronounced them poniez of the devil, but at the same time everyone secretly loves 'em and (the pony peeps anyway) are planning just how soon they can get one for their forthcoming offspring.

pony toilet problems sounds shit (). Sorry. Anyway, I try to avoid such things (which I'm prone to when diffed - it was the first thing which actually made me think I was 1-2 days before the BFP) by eating porridge for breakfast made with rice milk, which doesn't clog up the digestion like cow's milk (and tastes much nicer). I top it with lots of fruit - usually grapes and blueberries but sometimes clementines or something nice and sweet. I find that if I change my breakfast even to something else high fibre such as wholemeal toast I tend to have problems that day or the next. It works for me - just a suggestion. I put 3 heaped dessertspoons of porridge into a bowl, put enough milk on to cover it, microwave it for 1 1/2 minutes and bob's your uncle. Well mine. Well Robert - I've never called him Bob although some people do. My other uncle is called Stewart but noone ever says "Stewart's yer uncle". I wonder why.

am I waffling? I feel I am. Obviously my one poncy pathetic small glass of wine was quite enough, thank you.

pandora69 · 07/03/2010 22:36

Carrots, it was in the Times today that wine does not cause you to put on eight as previously thought, so that makes it practically a health drink in my eyes. I just can't drink it atm because I only need a thimble full to give me a bad head.

Big horse is a 17.3hh heavyweight. Legs like treetrunks, brain the size of a pea. He can't help it, bless him. Today he nearly had a nervous breakdown because I had had my annual clean of the bathroom and smelt of bathroom cleaner. He would sniff my hair and be happy, then sniff my bleachy smelling hands and freak out. Daft creature.

Shitland, OTOH, is very clever indeed. She is surely 90% brain. She has figured out that next door have a lovely lawn. This knowledge, combined with an ability to limbo dance, means that if I can't find her in my paddock then I know she is next door. I am thinking of charging them for grass cutting services and fertiliser delivery.

Ponymum, I am hoping that this baby is a calm and serene little thing that will have a pacifying effect on DD. DD is beautiful and clever, but precocious and demanding and rather hard work. She can charm the pants off people just before she throws a megatantrum. She has been the toddler on the floor, face down in the supermarket. I get my groeries delivered now!

pandora69 · 07/03/2010 22:37

Put on weight! Stupid computer!

Cosmosis · 07/03/2010 22:50

Congrats on baby girl ghosty! how lovely

What a stunning day it was today. I rode over to Ilkley on my road bike and it was just beautiful. And saw the first ickle lambies of the year. so cute.

Two fast girls overtook me on the horrible hill on the way home and I wanted to shout I'm a preggo not just a slowie at them, but I restrained myself!
