Here we go ladies - I'll C&P the stats in a tick. Don't forget to add the gender on if you find out at your scan

Oh so many people rate the ergo so highly, but I just HATED it. Tried it on with dd at a babyshow, and even with the demonstators help we struggled to get it on (was trying on back), and he agreed that they are virtually impossible to get on by yourself. He wasn't really a very good sales person was he? I'd probably be more confident about giving it another go now though, although don't need to as rose and rebellion does the same job.

I've been measuring up my front door to see what twin buggies I could possibly fit through - the only two that will fit (on paper at least) are the P&T classic twin and the Mountain Buggy 2010 model (which for the pedants out there is a whole cm - but a crucial cm - narrower than the older version!). I lust after the MB.... shame it's at least twice the price of the P&T twin....

gizmo · 08/02/2010 13:25

Alright? I shouldn't be here, by rights: I'm going to a trade show in Texas in two week's time and it's all getting a little fraught in the office. So apologies for not following the conversation with any accuracy.

Does anyone have any experience of Texas in February? Google says around 50 F, I'm going to need some lightweight clothes, aren't I? So I need to find two outfits that look smart & professional, are comfortable enough for a full trade show day and not too hot. Oh HAHAHAHAHAHA . I love being pregnant...

Anywaaay, busyness (and business) means I haven't really kept up with you all, but on the sling front I do have a wrap sling somewhere which got all of 20 minutes use last time around before DS2 decided he hated it...I'd be a bit wary of lashing out loadsamoney on a sling before the baby arrives because some of them don't like the idea that you might be able to use your arms for anything other than carrying them.

Superstition/overanxiety (and mountains of stuff already accumulated by myself and friends) has kept me from any baby related purchases so far, but as we approach the 24 week mark I shall probably bite the bullet for the one outstanding item I shall need which is a new pushchair. The one definite thing about me buying a new pushchair is that I shall get the wrong one and it will be sold within 9 months so we can move onto a lightweight stroller, but it's a comforting ritual of pregnancy for me...have settled on an iCandy Apple, if I can find one cheap enough on ebay.

Following up the 'interesting' markers found at the 20 week scan I have an appointment at the Fetal Medicine Centre for Friday morning. I guess they will scan me again first to see if the problem disappears with a different machine. Otherwise there is a chance I will go onto a regime of regular monitoring scans, which I would quite welcome, really. We'll have to see how things turn out.

And as for the eating/weight gain...I've not weighed myself, I'm not going to, yes I'm eating too much and I'll deal with the after effects, well, y'know, after

LittleRobbo · 08/02/2010 13:54

Gizmo you never fail to make me smile Good luck with Fridays scan.

Hope everyone else is fine and dandy. Not too bad a weekend for me,mainly consisted of trying to sleep as much as possible, and eating, also trying not to throttle DS1 (my hormones & teenage attitude is a bad combo)

I seem to be eating uncontrollably, doesnt help working at Costa though with all the delicious cakes,i've already had 2 chocolate tiffins today which i bought home from work yesterday

I'm 22+6 now and feeling little one moving around lovely now bring on third trimester!!

dinosaurinmybelly · 08/02/2010 13:56

Great to hear from you woofie and wonderful news that your work situation is now clarified.

I too have loved the ergobaby - it has been so versatile. I only bought it after DS2 and was able to carry him on my front, then switch to carry DS1 on my back if he got tired walking, whilst putting the little one in the Maclaren. It is just perfect for those outings where you don't want to take the twin (e.g if using the tube), as there are various permutations (little one in the buggy, big one walking etc).

It does take some practicing, but I've managed to get it on by myself when I'm out - I think it is definately worth getting these slings in and having some practice runs before the birth. I also recommend doing the same with a breast pump by the way - having not taken mine out of the box until crunch time with my first.

Have a lovely week all...

Ilovemyterrier · 08/02/2010 14:16

Hi All
Just had my 20week scan at Kings and it's a BOY :-)
Was a little problem with no nasal bone at the 12 weeks scan (is a possible marker for Downs) but was happy to see a lovely nasal bone on today's scan. All is well so I can now start thinking of shopping. Am loving the discussion about prams & slings - very informative for a total novice like me.

Lovely hearing about all the nice scan outcomes...still waiting for ours on Friday morning (at nearly 23 weeks, shocker!) and have agreed with dh that we are definitely finding out the flavour although still not sure if we're going to tell anyone at all....even the other June bumps

DD has had the tummy bug from hell since Thursday morning. I don't think the SF jab helped, but I suspect she was going to get it anyone as a few other kids we know have come down with it. Oddly, just the los, not the older siblings (thank goodness!). Meant a not-very-fun weekend with dd chucking up over everything (and a hacking cough making it worse) every few hours, dh with a stinking cold, me being pg tired and up all night with dd and ds absolutely fine and bouncing off the walls with energy and frustration at his collapsed family Saturday, DD turned into evil-banshee-child and spent about 4 hours screaming the place down, instead of sleeping. Really good fun.

Now we've moved on from throwing up everywhere to truly nappy-busting green diarrhoea. Not an improvement, especially since it seems to leak and spread over everything like some weird slime monster out of a horror movie [yuk emoticon]

But she ate something for the first time in 4 days today, so hopefully we are now moving back to normal...slowly...

Great timing for dh to leg it for a few days !

One of the only things I need this time is a baby carrier...we used a friends BB (with support) last time and it was mostly great, but I'm really interested in both the Connecta and RoseandRebellion carriers you guys have posted. Can anyone advise about the differences between the two, and which one to go for please?

LaTrucha · 08/02/2010 16:09

Not sure about the R+R, but connecta is like a Mei Tei but with clips so it's very easy to put on. I'm not sure what it's like with a newborn but it is supposed to work. It looks so comfy and eay with my friends toddler, has good back support and can be worn front and back.

Friend is a small woman, though. Don't know about you guys!

I am suddenly enormous. A friend who saw me at the end of ast week came round today and her eyes nearly popped out of her head. And she's 36 weeks pg too, so is likely to be sensitive to baby bump size. It's nice but a bit shocking. And a bit uncomfortable!

Am seriously nervous about scan now and into having out and out nightmares now. Hurry up Thursday.

Flossysmum · 08/02/2010 17:24

Afternoon

"LittleRobbo" It must have been the weekend for it lol how both me and DS1 are still alive and talking is a sign of pure will power on my part not to beat him sensless! unfortunately we did have one casulty in the form of the KitKat mug But today is a new day and he's cooking dinner

I'm 23+3 and had my scan over a week ago all is well and cashew did a complete 360 turn while the woman was trying to take measurements etc. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come we didn't find out the sex as we'd like a surprise but I couldn't see any blue bits hehe!.

Has anyone got or getting a mountain buggy? I've been looking at these for a while, and think it would be great for walking and also make trecking accross ruby pitches easier. It only occured to me on sunday that next season we would have a baby in tow and so would need something that would cope with muddy fields and walk ways.

good luck with you scans I hope the week goes quickly for you xxx

georgee · 08/02/2010 17:49

Hi all

Reading all the advice on slings with much interest - I'm the most impractical person in the world so suspect I'll end up going for a baby bjorn or something that doesn't involve any intricate wrapping and tying.

Just a quick question - I see Gaelicsheep has had a swine flu vaccine and seems not to have had any problems apart from a sore arm, is that right Gaelicsheep? Has anyone else had the vaccine? I've been offered one and I've made an appointment for Wed but really unsure about whether to do it. I don't want to bother you with a big chat about the pros/cons and I know it's been done ad nauseam in other threads but just a quick response would be great! Ta!

Elena67 · 08/02/2010 17:59

Hi Georgee I had the swine flu jab at about 11 weeks and it was absolutely fine (apart from sore arm for a couple of days)
HTH!

georgee · 08/02/2010 18:02

Thanks Elena

imkeepingmum · 08/02/2010 18:06

Thanks for all the sling advice, another thing to research!

LaTrucha my scan is Wednesday and after not really worrying about it suddenly I feel very nervous and want to get it over and done with. I'm glad I'm not the only one. Had a horrible nightmare about the baby a couple of nights ago which made me feel a bit although talking about it the next morning with DH to be made me feel a bit happier. He on the other hand thought I was a little strange but went through the motions

Jojobil · 08/02/2010 18:38

Hello My scan is in a week and I can not wait We will be finding out the flavour of baby too
I never got to use a sling as my daughter was quite heavy, but my friend used a karime fabric sling and really recommends it I would be very greatfull for recommendations of a pram. We had a Bugaboo in the past. And Filly you were kind enough to recommend it again But we live up a hill now any other recommendations? It needs to be easy to push up but city friendly at the same time..

dinosaurinmybelly · 08/02/2010 18:42

Hello georgee I also had the SF jab at around 15 weeks and had no problems except the sore arm. Both DS1 and DS2 had their jab and booster jabs around Christmas and were just grouchy for a day.

CantSleepWontSleep · 08/02/2010 18:51

flossy - we talked about the mountain buggy on Saturday - what more did you want to know?!

jojobil - I don't understand your comment about not using a sling because your dd was heavy - you can use them with 4 year olds, so how could your baby be too heavy?!

Having my swine flu jab tomorrow georgee, but I'm having the other vaccine to most people, so my experience might be different.

fillybuster - go for whichever carrier of the two has the prettiest fabric . But actually checking them both again I'd def go for the R&R because it goes up to 20kg rather than the 16 of the connecta, and it now has an integrated sleep hood, which I wish my version had.

playftse - have you looked at the icandy peach blossom - bloody brilliant for twins imo.

Good luck with all of this week's scans. Mine is on Friday too.

OP posts:
greensnail · 08/02/2010 19:40

georgee I had my SF jab on saturday. No probs except my arm is sore when I touch it, and feels hot, red and swollen. Wish I'd had it in my other arm as its on the side I like to lie on in bed. I also had a headache for a few hours after having the jab, but not too bad. DD had it too and she's had no problems except being very sleepy for the rest of the day.

How heavy was your daughter jojobil? I was still carrying my 98th centile DD up until I found out I was pg again, only stopped then because I get very clumsy when pregnant and didn't want the two of us to end up in a big heap on the pavement

I'm really tired today, and my itchyness seems to have cranked up a notch. My next appointment is a week tomorrow but they told me to come back sooner if the itching gets bad, so I'll see how it goes tonight and maybe ring up the hospital if it stays this bad tomorrow. I have to wait in at home for a delivery tomorrow, so that will be a good excuse to rest and put my feet up.

bobolana · 08/02/2010 19:54

bobolana · 08/02/2010 20:02

see I even type boy, meaning girl, what is with me?
did anyone felt like that - a bit disappointed maybe? Don't get me wrong I am still happy, but somehow I always thought it will be a boy.

Jojobil · 08/02/2010 20:03

Hello Cantsleep and Greensnail My daughter was 9.11 at birth it seems that I had a wrong type of sling. I only tried it once and my back was killing during and afterwards. It was very uncomfortable... I just assumed her weight was part of the reason. I guess you learn something every day.

bobolana · 08/02/2010 20:06

About the sling.... At the moment I am reading the attachment parenting and it seems very promising and goes with my lifestyle. My concern is about having the baby all the time and everywhere with you - does it really works and does it have to be like this all the time, every day?
Had anyone done co-sleeping? I am thinking about it, but a bit scared.

madamefreckle · 08/02/2010 20:07

Georgee - I found baby bjorn very uncomfortable and babies never fit in them for that long and I think they always look in an awkward position. I find Ergo is really easy - no fiddly wrapping. Still carry my 3 year old in it.

madamefreckle · 08/02/2010 20:24

bobolana - I noticed that you still put 'boy'! But congrats on baby girl news! I'm sure any ounce of disappointment will quickly disappear.

Congrats to Ilovemyterrier too! Must be a big relief to see that nasal bone.

Filly - Your weekend sounds a bit hideous! Glad things are on the up now. I don't know how people can find out the sex and manage not to let it slip to everyone! C'mon, you've got to tell us on Fri if you find out!

Cantsleepwontsleep - sounds like you must have had a rubbish demonstrator! I can easily get ds on my back without help. Never heard of rose & rebellion/ connecta though. Will have to have a look!...could be dangerous though!

greensnail · 08/02/2010 20:26

bobolana apparently my mum referred to me as a boy for a few days after I was born while she got her head around it - and she was hoping I would be a girl anyway!

I co-slept for a while with DD in the early days. I had been adamant that I wouldn't before she was born, as I wanted to do everything 100% by the book as far as the cot death advice goes. Started co-sleeping after day 3, when it was suggested by a wonderful midwife as I was exhausted as DD just wouldn't settle anywhere but with me. My experience was that co-sleeping in a controlled, planned way felt much safer than trying to stay awake sitting up with a baby in your arms. We didn't do it for long (DD was sleeping in her cot at 8 weeks), but it was a wonderful experience and I plan to do the same with the new baby. I know plenty of people who co-sleep long term and they are very happy with this too. It wouldn't have worked for us longterm as DD and I both like our own space!

My advice as far as attachment parenting goes is to remember what you're reading, and then see how it fits in with your instincts and the reality of having a baby. I think it becomes apparent quite quickly what is and what isn't going to work for you. If you find an element of attachment parenting doesn't feel right for you, then try something else, and just stick to the bits that suit you.

jojobil I couldn't get on with the first type of sling I had either (luckily it had only cost me £5 off ebay). Maybe you could borrow some this time around to see if you could find one that suits you (if you want one, of course).

bobolana · 08/02/2010 20:52

greensnail, did you have your DD between you and your DH, or she was at the end of the bed, next to you?
