AbsB · 19/01/2010 12:55

woowa do we all go onto this one now???

I have just come back from seeing my GP. I now have a really awful cough, really snotty and feel so lousy... She prescribed gaviscon for my acid indigestion. My chest feels like the clash of the titans, phlegm and cough versus hot acid reflux. I haven't felt this bad in years. I really look like shit too...

Oh well!

I am so glad babies have started to arrive, even though mine's due at the end of Feb, it's something to look forward to!

verylittlecarrot · 19/01/2010 12:59

Haven't popped onto the thread in ages - whose baby has arrived?

AbsB, I have a rotten cold too and hideous sore throat. This sucks, combined with late pregnancy, doesn't it?

Re: heartburn; ask your GP about "Losec". It's a miracle drug, honestly. Ranitidine and gaviscon were hardly touching my horrendous heartburn, but this has made it evaporate completely. I could kiss his feet, I swear, for prescribing this for me.

woowa · 19/01/2010 13:00

HI abs yes, i think we all move now!! Come and join me in groaning about your body on the new one!!

OP posts:
woowa · 19/01/2010 13:02

verylittlecarrot it was T4Tastic - 3 1/2 weeks early, on sunday! We all thought it would be one of the ELCS babies, but this one came of its own accord!

Has anyone else got swelling down below? Not varicose vein type (as others have mentioned) but just general feeling the weight of pregnancy, possible getting ready swelling? Is it normal to get a bit more tender? Hope so as it's jolly uncomfortable!

OP posts:
woowa · 19/01/2010 13:04

ps abs just realised you are already here!

OP posts:
verylittlecarrot · 19/01/2010 13:31

swelling, yup. Like a complimentary padded cushion to support my massive bulk when I sit down. yuk.

Also feeling weird electric shock sensations in my ladybits when the baby moves around. And I feel as if someone has given me a violent kick to my pubic bone, it feels so bruised. I could go on, you know.

I'll stop now.

sunnybump · 19/01/2010 13:36

Congrats T4tastic, such lovely news and welcome Aiden. Looking forward to hearing more details as and when you fell up to it and can find the time!

FluffyCoo I really feel for you about the renovations, it must be pants Me and DH have only just got used to seeing each other again in the evenings since we moved in despite loads of stuff being half done finished the house. Hang in there, it will be ok. The midwife said to me all you really need for a Home Birth is heating of some sort, water and a kettle so from a practical pint of view you'll be fine. Not sure what to suggest about your MIL though, it depends what kind of relationship you have with her.

Jardins I agree it's only natural to worry, especially when something happens to someone who is on the same timescale as you.

All I can say is I'm glad I'm able to read that loads of others are having all these thoughts, feelings and panics about everything. I think it's really helped me feel normal rather than neurotic.

I've had engorged nethers for ages Woowa, it this more again or just happening now for you?

AbsB · 19/01/2010 14:08

verylittlecarrot as woowa says I moan a lot about my body!!! I will look into your heartburn recommendation, sounds brilliant! Sorry you're not well either, I was feeling so fighting fit until now!

I was described by the pharmacist today as a "really heavily pregnant woman" which was a bit of a revelation as I haven't quite come to terms with how big I really am! I've put on 13kgs which is basically a pound a week since the first trimester - does that sound normal???

I don't know about the swelling but that perineum is weird! I mean the distance between vag and bum hole seems so short? Is a 10cm head really coming out of there... I don't think so!!! Sorry, getting filthy, will get back to work now!

Glynnispig · 19/01/2010 14:15

Hi all

Havent been on for ages, so much to catch up on havent been able to read all.

Congratulations T4, lovely to hear , hope all going well. It is all becoming very real now!

Only got 3 more days at work after today, cant wait! Am so tired by the end of the day now. And sleeping a real issue! Get very achey legs and hips, feel like I roll over 100 times a night!

Have been told I have a 'good sized baby', eek, hope not too big!

Hope all well x x

ktpie · 19/01/2010 15:12

Quick hello so I can find this thread again, going to see the midwife in a minute.

I'm also a little concerned that this baby will be massive, DS was 9lbs 2 1/2 ounces and I feel bigger this time (but that could be because everything is looser!).

flyingcloud · 19/01/2010 15:24

Wrote a big long post last night, but had to ditch it when DH started looking over my shoulder.

Congratulations T4 - what wonderful news. We are dying to hear how it all went, but imagine that you will have a lot less time to post now! So excited for you? Lovely name by the way.

Had final doctor's appt today, thank God, so sick of them! He did say that my cervix is properly closed, no sign of it opening soon, but he also said that if I wanted to come in on the 1st February he would try and open it a bit (is that what a sweep is? Sounds pretty horrid to me, but I may well be taking him up on the offer as I WANT THIS BABY OUT AND IN MY ARMS!)

woowa · 19/01/2010 15:36

Engorged nethers is a good way of describing it sunnybump. They've been like that for a week or so, but seem to be getting worse every day. Glad it's not just me, now I don't need to bring it up with the MW, just assume it's normal for being VERY pregnant (we're all that now!). Thank goodness for MN where we can ask all ridiculous questions!

Got to unpick 2 rows of knitting now - last baby cardigan, honestly! Got to stop at some point!

OP posts:
watercress · 19/01/2010 17:07

I've felt like I have engorged nethers for ages now - I had put it down to the SPD, but maybe it's just pg!

Flyingcloud, your talk of sweeps has got me thinking about all that side of things. Last time when I went over (DD was born at 41+6, and only then after a hefty induction!), I saw a MW twice for sweeps and neither time could they do them. Yeurgh.

And I'm the opposite to you about doctor's appointments. I've got one tomorrow and I'm actually quite looking forward to it! I haven't been seen in primary care (by a MW or GP) since 18 weeks! I had scans at 23 and 32 weeks so I think all is OK (and there's loads of movement) but it'll be nice to hear the heartbeat again and find out whether my suspicions that she's head down and either ROA or LOA (depending on her mood) are correct.

Having said that, the snow has stopped me getting to the surgery the last two times I've tried it, so fingers crossed that doesn't happen again.

I'm feeling so full of baby if that doesn't sound stupid. I literally feel as if there is no room for the baby to grow anymore and my abdomen feels so tight and stretched all the time that it's actually uncomfortable. Anyone else with me on this?

pyjamababe · 19/01/2010 18:29

Hello Girls

Well done T4!! This is so exciting!!

Hope to God pyjamababy doesn't appear early though, just took dh to the airport this morning - away until Sunday - so nothing has to happen till then

May pack hospital bag just in case though. Tomorrow perhaps...

watercress I am with you, feeling soo full now and bedtime has become a hilarious pillow arrangement that just about works, probably just as well dh is away for a few days, no room for him anyway!

jardins · 19/01/2010 18:47

I am so excited to hear your news T4 The very first baby on the February thread. Yippee. Do post the details of the birth, if/when you feel up to it: there will be plenty of avid readers I think.

I really want to thank you for taking my fears re: Down Syndrome, etc. so kindly and seriously. I'm really touched by the thought you put into your replies: you really cheered me up although I would be lying if I said that my fears had flown away. I guess I have to work on staying positive. Up until yesterday I was experiencing that deliciously nervy feeling of 'ooooh it's not long now.... labour and birth here I come'. These recent fears have clouded that delightful anticipation but I must work on putting them to one side.

Swollen lady bits!!! Oh yes!!! I lol when I read your posts. I honestly think it's the thing I am most looking forward to kissing good-bye to..... if you see what I mean I have generally hated the effect pregnancy has had down below. Between thrush, piles, the sheer weight of the baby on those parts. I am grateful not to have suffered from backache, heartburn, swollen ankles and legs (AHHHHH I mustn't tempt fate - I've got another 10 days to go). Does anyone else find it a real chore climbing the stairs?

Woowa I think it's fab that you knit. Are you very good at it? I have just finished a patchwork knitted baby blanket, which quite frankly, looks very amateurish but I really am a beginner. I have bought some beautiful soft green wool to start my first baby cardigan (Erika Knight book). Could I ask you for advice if I'm really stuck, please?

GuernseyFrench · 19/01/2010 19:08

Congratulations T4

Just saw the mw who said that I am not leaking water (I feel so reassured!) and that DS head is starting to be engaged which explain why I feel so uncomfortable down below.

I have read in various thread that you should take arnica to help with the bruising, but can I start taking it before the birth as I seem to remember reading that arnica and pregnancy are a no-no?

Hope you're all taking it easy and rest as much as you can, I will if I could (I still have to work until the end of the month)

woowa · 19/01/2010 19:56

jardins - congrats on the blanket, that's great to finish it if you think you're a beginner! Ask for advice any time, i LOVE discussing knitting! I have one Erika Knight baby book I think, so i may even have the pattern you're doing which would make advice even easier!

Guernseyfrench - do you think that if we're all uncomfy down below too (everyone seems to be today!) our babies' heads are engaging too? I hope so! I would love to give birth soon, even a couple of weeks early would be fine by me! I have a scan on friday so i hope to hear good news about positions, heads and all that.

I haven't eaten since lunch and I don't feel hungry AT ALL. TOO MUCH BABY! And I'm very tall andmy bump's really not taking up much of me. How can it get any bigger and still let me eat???

OP posts:
GuernseyFrench · 19/01/2010 20:12

woova I hope for all of you / us that it is a sign of engagement and bodies getting ready for the D Day!!!

hannahsaunt · 19/01/2010 20:29

Oh my - they're coming already! Many congratulations T4. I finish work a week on Thursday and just can't wait. This is dc4 and it is soooo tiring; everything feels ready to fall out but I could do with a couple of weeks off to do jobs nothing. Dh is away for 2 days a week before dc4 is due which is making me nervous.

chinook · 19/01/2010 20:30

Congratulation T4 hope mummy and baby are doing well and you are enjoying your first days of motherhood. If my memory serves me correctly you will be waking up any day now with the norks of Pamela Anderson, when your milk comes in. I loved it! You get to see what silicone implants would be like without having to pay for them.

I definitely think feeling strange things down below is a sign of engagement. But I think this can happen several weeks before your due date, especially with your first. It does feel like they could fall out though when they start moving about, doesn't it? (wishful thinking emoticon!)

Nikki87 · 19/01/2010 20:30

oo its exciting to have moved thread

watercress i know the exact feeling, its like I'm going to split down the middle if babi carries on growing, althou at 3weeks remaining, i am hoping for an early arrival!

is anyone else getting extreme pain in their pelvic bone, at the front, where you hair is [sorry, but only way i can think of describing, lol] I have been is so so much pain the last couple of days, its gets worse when i pee [again, sorry if TMI], but i dont have an infection.

had acupuncture on monday for my SPD [was a little shocked that the NHS here pays for that, so thought id take advantage of free things ] but didn't do a thing to help. she did say I'd need 4-6 treatments, which at 1 treatment a week, babi will be here by then!

Nikki87 · 19/01/2010 20:31

sorry, crossed post chinook

InmaculadaConcepcion · 19/01/2010 20:32

T4 wonderful news!! Congratulations on the arrival of little Aiden!

Eek!!

Jardins, I had an amnio after my nuchal fold etc. tests came back 1/60 - turned out all is normal, but I sympathise with your worries, remembering how I felt. Downs people tend to be very loving and lovable, but I think it's perfectly okay to feel daunted about the possibility of raising a child with special needs. Sure all will be well.

Bad luck on house renovations, engorged nethers and all the other probs people are having - sending you all moral support x

Clappedout · 19/01/2010 20:45

T4 congratulations on little Aiden, fantastic news and sounds like you were a bit of a hero, hope things are going ok back home.

Second day of maternity leave, afternoon naps ROCK! Feel much less tired and way more relaxed but still think I have to rush around doing lots of chores.

I have a growth scan tomorrow and BP check to see if an induction is still on the cards, only 36 + 3 weeks though so want to hang on for a few more weeks if I can.

Good luck everyone with the Braxton Hicks and swollen nether regions, ouch. All seeming more real now though I am still burying my head and showering my DD with affection and treats while I can!

MusicalMummyJules · 19/01/2010 21:08

Fantastic news T4, hope everything is going well.

Watercress - I have the same problem, in fact the consultant has said that my stomach wall is separating which sounds gross! They think this baby is going to be a biggin, at least 9.5 (which was what my DD was)

Thanks for all the advice re settling DD, looks like she is going to have to stay at my friends house next Wednesday as I have to be at the hospital at 7am in the morning on Thursday which is way too early even for breakfast club, hoping that I'll be done by lunchtime so that she can come and see me after school.

Hope everyone has had a good day.
