Getting us started with our new thread!

Will cut and paste the most up to date list so we know where we are.

somewhat, hope things are on the move for you. dd1 was with me almost exactly 24 hours after my show.

Thought I had had a tiny bit of show yesterday - just a teeny weeny bit of jelly stuff, but nothing since, so trying to keep my sights on something beyond 24th.

DP went off to get dd from preschool at 12.40. She was due to finish at 12.45. Takes 20 mins tops to get back including collecting pictures, putting on coat etc... and they're still not here. It's nearly 14.10. We had more snow last night and most of today, but he went on foot with the sledge. Am worrying and don't know what I can do. His grandma does live on the same complex as the preschool, so I'm really hoping he thought he'd 'do me a favour' by giving me a bit more time (woke up with the room spinning today, and stayed in bed until nearly midday) and they've gone to see her... thing is, I don't want to call her, because if they're not there, then she'll be worried to, and she's nearly 97, so don't want her to worry. Hmm....

mistletoekisses · 13/01/2010 14:32

CTFN - I dont blame you for having little self control. I have gone from thinking this is our final DC to really thinking maybe one more. Considering that we have always said that 2 DC is our ideal number...maybe I should make sure I think of DS2 as our last baby and see how that makes me feel....I cannot believe he is already 6 days old...feel as though it is already going so quickly!!! Although I know that I still have plenty of time with him as a baby!

SWH - how exciting!! Fingers and toes for you!

Showme - I felt that way before DS2 arrived, DS1 was always settled and evenings our own before DS2 arrived, but I am loving every second of it! My mother is also here doing the same and is an absolute godsend! There was no way I could have coped without her. Am pretty much not moving out of bed and the improvement in all the bruising has been huge. So plan to stay put while she is here!

Biccy - am sure they are having an absolute ball in the snow and letting you rest.

So many posters have gone quiet suddenly. Am wondering if lots of babies have arrived!

Thanks MK, they have just got back, and had indeed been great-grandma's... phew. Just me being a bit silly.

Hi - looking for news of iaatcey or as she was known at christmas hurrydownthechimney.
Any news???
Hope you are all popping as expected!
Mine is now 7 weeks!

WestYorkshireGirl · 13/01/2010 17:21

Sorry to be an interloper to your thread, but I was looking at your birth stories and wanted to say how inspirational they are- well done to you have already 'done the deed' and good luck to those still waiting!

Frauchsmum - I too would like a home birth and your story has really encouraged me. I love your pics too and your Labradors! We have a Lab too and it's great seeing other people who obviously feels the same way about them!

ampster · 13/01/2010 18:23

bless my DP - didn't realise the due date was the 19th (e.g. NEXT TUESDAY). was seriously shocked and said 'it's all getting a bit real isn't it?". well, duh!

re: co-sleeping - DS was born in sweden where they are totally chilled about it. just told me not to co-sleep after drink / drugs (chance would be a fine thing) and to make sure the child doesn't go under the adult duvet. so we always had a little gro-bag thing for him and it was fine.

but here my mum (who is a health visitor) is telling me to set up a cot just to show the midwives, and to lie to them about our intentions to co-sleep with the new baby. we're doing 'family bed' - we have a huge double and a single alongside the double (where DP currently sleeps, though it was meant to be for DS). did want to put DS in his own room before the new baby came but, as with the weaning, it just wasn't happening.

basically i didn't expect to but, like yangymac, took the path of least resistance (e.g. greatest laziness / anything to stop the crying) and found it led straight to attachment parenting. hence the sling-wearing, co-sleeping, full-term breastfeeding nature of my life. it's been good and hopefully will lead to happy children but it definitely gets a bit much sometimes!

(we do have a routine in place as well nowadays - dinner / bath / story / bed at the same time every night. it's not total chaos!)

v.jealous of those with shows / BHs - nothing much happening here. keep repeating to self 'baby will come when baby is ready'. just don't want baby to be ready after 42 weeks, that's all!

superlong MEMEME post, sorry!

devotion · 13/01/2010 19:26

Just a quick post here as dh wants computer.

just set up another thread, in pain all today because i've been walking about like a cowboy. feels like baby is trying to come out, painful pressure in pelvis and perenium. i can not cope with this for two more weeks.

re: co sleeping, i love the idea of it and would love one of those cots that attach to your bed for extra safety. our bed is just too small, we need a king size.

i had too many scares doing it with dd1, so many times i woke with her under the blankets down by my side. i would do it from 8mths or so onwards but not before... too nervous now.

Bethoo - hope you are ok?

hello everyone else!

whensmydayoff · 13/01/2010 19:40

CTFN Re our night out ....Im in Edinburgh so bit of an expensive taxi home!

As for Vino, oh god I can't wait until BF finished and I can dip my head in a goldfish bowl of wine.

Moan away re Olivia not sleeping unless held.

Yep, we have that issue now too. The wants to be held issue anyway. Olivia basically goes - Feed Feed Feed, sick, Feed Feed, horrific wind, sick, screaming, cuddling, Feed, hand over to DH to stop her smelling me and thinking FOOOOOD, she then sleeps on his chest while he sits up in bed trying to stay awake. That is our typical night.

Last night she fed at 7pm then continued to scream with wind and want fed from then until 5am before she finally settled.

I think she has reflux like DS. Showing loads of signs already. All the constant wind, doesn't like to lie flat, being sick a lot.

Aaaaanyway, will wait and watch, might just be colic, fingers crossed.

Wow im just emptying my thoughts on here, what a boring post .

Biccy · 13/01/2010 20:40

CTOFN and ampster empty your thoughts away, you are not boring at all. DP and I have been 'reminiscing' about those days (baby that wanted to be held all the time, no sleep) and wondering how we are going to manage with dd as well (we only have a standard double bed)... rather too late we are now trying to deal with her coming into our bed at night. We didn't co-sleep 'properly' when she was a baby, only when it was the only way of getting any sleep, but we have still slipped into a pattern of her sleeping with us now (truth is despite the discomforts we enjoy waking up all together and cuddling, plus lazyness and avoidance of crying). Also slipped back into staying with her while she goes to sleep, so gently trying to withdraw so she settles herself again, and trying to put her back in her bed at night. It's coinciding rather well with my sleeplessness as it happens...

Just jumping on quickly before going to bed to get some zzz's.

WMDO - have just read about your night with your LO!! Poor you and poor Olivia.

Not sure if this is an option/ whether it will help. www.amby.co.uk/index.php?fid=0,1. DS1 loved his and DS2 is (touchwood) also sleeping great in it. One of my friends who had a preemie and wasnt sleeping longer than 30 mins at a time unless held started sleeping for 2-3 hours once put in it.

Ampster - LOL at your DP.

Devotion - it is the fear of that that always stopped me. Babies are just such wrigglers and I have a nice 13.5 tog goose down duvet on my bed. The combination of wriggly baby and thick duvet just makes me too scared to co sleep. Although the sound of it is still lovely.

Right, off to bed. Roads round here are apparently clear, so hopefully DS1 can go to nursery tomorrow.

Hugs to all.

Just a quick one from me:

heading into hospital early in the morning for ELCS

quite nervous about it and not really excited at all

this time tomorrow I should have the new baby, which I can't really seem to get my head around.

Poor DD knows something is up and is all discombobulated. I hope she'll be OK while I'm away

Best of luck to anyone else due or showing signs of impending babiness, or just waiting around expectantly.

See you all on the other side.

ski.

Siochfradha · 13/01/2010 23:37

Good luck skidoodle! Must be lovely / surreal knowing exactly when you'll have your wee baby with you. Hope it all goes well.

All the early babies on this post have made me go 'hmm any day now or, eh, not for another month'. Has been good excuse to kick DH up arse and compile list of heavy things for him to carry etc. But loving the birth stories. Have read about 6 pages in one go but fraochsmum stands out. Can i have one of those please??

Thanks to ladies for spinningbaby reference - been really helpful. Might have a go at drawing baby on my stomach tomorrow just for the craic...

Mat leave has settled into unnecessary ikea shopping, eating mini Dime bars and watching jeeves and wooster. But BORED NOW.

Mama2b5 · 13/01/2010 23:49

ahhhhhhh - pls join me on wwwwwwwIHATETHESNOW.co.uk its driving me crazy, LO x3 had no school, then after 1pm DD15 came home wonderful! so all my plans went pear shaped!cleaning plans.

CTOFN- yep i agree DH is out of bound- we both agreed.
MTK-agree also DH is so understanding and i love him so much, so sweet and fussing over me like crazy!
Co - sleeping - i wont be doin that, but if anyone will be its DH he was the same with DD9 and had her up on him at the slightest whimper or movement, so with this one, ermm i know its goin to be the same thing, not bothered actually so cute to see them both sleeping together - lovely photo moments!
Def going to get a sling so DH can hold LO and do H/W!!! while i sleep!
SWH- a show, well hope this is it for you all good birthing labour vibes to you!

Ali - great to hear Jacob is getting better and soon will be a "guzzle monster"

Devo - you poor love!(image of cowboy walk- small giggle!)nothing today so im not happy! and im nesting washed last baby bits and repacked my bags! making space for moses basket beside my bed!

Ski - all will be well for tomo and yeh, this time you will have LO- big Hug! to u xx

oh well im off - pls NO MORE SNOW!!!!!!!!

PS - MTK - loving "stokke" so happy and also need to email you done something wrong and it bounced back!

ampster · 14/01/2010 01:27

good luck skidoodle! it must be nice to know that this time tomorrow your LO will definitely be here. none of this "ooh will i be induced? how much pineapple/semen/raspberry leaf tea should i imbibe to get things going?" business for you! just order and certainty!

showmethemummy i think there's still lots you can do to shift your little one - they can still turn up to and during labour. walking sideways up and down stairs is meant to help, as is swimming (on your front), and the 'polar bear position', which is a kind of all fours but you don't rest on your wrists.

oh dear, i have more to write but DS has been vomming all night and needs me...

hurrydownthechimneytonight · 14/01/2010 07:51

Hi joycey am still here hanging on in there!!

7 weeks already how is everything going? what did nu have in the end boy or a girl??

Dont post to much dont really have much to say and cant keep up with the speed of the thread

Hope you had a wonderful christmas and new year! im 38+ 4 today

Take care and good luck today skidoddle!

sockmonkey · 14/01/2010 08:09

Good luck skidoodle Hope all goes well for you today.

Well, I am NOT taking the boys today even if the school is open. It was such an absolute nightmare yestarday. Slipping all over on ice, scared to death, I ended up bursting into tears when I finally made it home.
DH came to help me pick them up at dinnertime, as there was no way I was going out again at 3pm. Car got completely stuck, and we had to abandon it & walk.
School receptionist basically said to stay home until pavements were better.

Oh boy do I ache though. I think I might have twisted something trying to avoid falling over. Baby needs to stay in till the roads are clear. Another summer baby I think!

Joycey29 · 14/01/2010 09:27

Glad all good with you Hurry.... 38 +4 sounds very close!!
Let me know when you have it - I had a litte girl Aoife.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 14/01/2010 10:59

Skidoodle - truly you will be fine tomorrow! Remember how I hated the pregnancy and couldn't wait for it to be over? Not until the last few days did I really allow myself to think about what was coming at the end of it. But when the ELCS was over and done with and Olivia was safely delivered, I was on cloud 9 and all the difficulties of the pregnancy were forgotten (almost )! It does seem odd to think that by a certain time tomorrow your LO will be in your arms, but when he/she is, you will be elated.

Try not to worry or fret, just enjoy today, make sure your prepared and packed, take your pre-meds tonight and have a feast - because you won't be able to eat or drink after about 10pm!!

If you are interested, you can email me or MistletoeKisses (CantThinkofFunnyName at googlemail.com) or ([email protected]) with your name, location and mobile number, we can email you back our details and some of the others who have opted in so you can text us the news of your newborn and we can update thread for you and keep you updated whilst in hospital.

Above paragraph goes for everyone who has not yet "opted in" to the text buddy network!!

Health Visitor been this morning so now have my little red book for Olivia. No weigh-in though as they are doing a walking service at the moment because of the snow!

Simply cannot wait for this wretched snow to clear now - really want to take a very slow walk around the block to ease cabin fever and daren't step foot outside with the ice that is currently our path!
