Hi all and thanks for the tips about knowing when things start. Just had MW around for ante-natal check (40+2weeks) and scary words like induction and sweep were banded around. Great, not best impressed. So onto the birthing ball I go .

I think preggy brain had finally set in as I just read all the posts and now can't remember what anyone has said..I'm so rude, sorry.

Hope everyone's settling in with new arrivals and for those of us whose bumps have turned into mountains...carry on bouncing.

Biccy · 11/01/2010 13:35

Just a quick update for mistletoe on swine flu jab - then I'm going to try and nab a cat nap as dd is in the bath with dp (his is the life, eh?). Anyway, point is, it's now over 48 hours since her jab, and no more complaints about aching arm since the one mention on Saturday night, no reaction on the arm, no fever, slept normally last night, so, so far still so good - and she has been in a lovely mood for the duration.

skidoodle · 11/01/2010 13:48

maygirl and mistletoe - thanks for the info about sections and breastfeeding. That's quite a relief actually.

Also, good to know it comes back to you.

whensmydayoff

My sister's DD was like that as a newborn. Feeding constantly, massive weight gain - you could practically see her growing.

I was saying to a friend about how my sister was constantly feeding and she was saying "oh well that's just what it's like at first", but this was another level from what I experienced. It was really hard for her to do anything at all other than sit under the baby.

Now she's 3mos and just the most adorable thing, as well as big and robust and strong. It will settle down soo

Well done on 1lb 8oz in a week! You must be really proud. I remember how disappointed I used to be when I would bring DD to be weighed, SURE she had put on .5 lb and it would be like 2oz

londonlottie

congratulations on your girls

"found them snuggled up asleep together the other day with Eve sucking Juliet's thumb!"

that might be the cutest thing I have EVER heard. adorable!

I'm still in my pyjamas. The snow's gone, but it's been hammering rain all day long. Must get dressed at some point, but it's hard as DD will just keep throwing all her bath toys into shower while I wash.

sockmonkey · 11/01/2010 14:00

WMDO Wow... you and your super-milk eh?
sixmincepies Is it easier or harder for you to keep the children at home while the weather is so bad? I bet school would understand if you didn't want to do the school run at 9 months pregnant. I am seriously considering doing the same... due one week today!

I feel bad about complaining about DH and his cough. Made it to Docs today who said he has a secondary chest infection, and if we'd left it much longer it would have turned into pneumonia and involved a hospital stay. Not great that he is sick, but better than trying to cope on my own with the boys while he was in.
Please send not going into labour for a couple of weeks vibes! DH isn't supposed to drive.

whensmydayoff · 11/01/2010 14:30

crumpette you must be the most laid back person ever. HOW HAVE YOU NOT STABBED HIM????

OK, possibly not helpful, there would be the whole prison thing bla bla but gawd it would be tempting.

I was same with DD and breast feeding in the beginning. She just munched on my empty cracked bleeding nipple for days and I ended up giving a few tiny 10ml syringes for, I think, 24 hours or slightly more, inbetween breast feeding, until milk came in. It saved my sanity, my nipples and calmed her down (she screamed constantly).

I did feel bad doing it too as I had the whole exclusive feeding thing in my head but TBH, I quickly forgot about it and am glad I was able to pick up exclusive feeding after that initial blip. Just persevere if you can but what might happen is exhaustion kicks in and its a vicious cirlce. Dont feel bad if its enough to give you both a sleep then try again after a rest. x

CantThinkofFunnyName · 11/01/2010 15:38

Eeek - I've just read loads of posts and now can't remember who said what and what I should say in response

Crumpette - I definitely remember your post! I echo WMDO - how have you not stabbed your DP? I truly think you could plead temporary insanity/just cause etc! I can't believe what you are going through and putting up with at the moment from him. I guess you must feel pretty vulnerable with a newborn and need all of the help you can get from him - but it sounds like he is being far more of a hindrance than any help whatsoever.

WMDO - super milk indeed! You go girl! My little Olivia feeding well too, although only every 3-4 hours, but I can visibly see her filling out and clothes getting smaller/tighter . Still haven't heard from Health Visitor and but can't wait as want to get her weighed again!

MK - so glad you are taking it easy in bed whilst DH looking after you, doing nursery run etc!

LondonLottie - Eve sucking Juliet's thumb... that really is so gorgeous! Hope you and DH sort things out soon though especially as it was a heavy road you had to travel to get those two little ones.

Everyone else - I'm soooo sorry if I haven't replied to individual posts - losing track!

Birthing vibes being sent though - things are really hotting up!

Mama2b5 · 11/01/2010 15:40

Hi all - so kids off to school and me and DH just snuggled and slept waiting for the buggy and carseat to be delivered - not yet come!
grabbed quick lunch at harvesters and back home awaiting arrival of deliveries still!!!!

Was speaking to my cuz who had baby girl on friday shes still in hospital due to spd and then her legs being forced back while in labour so now shes done something painful to her pelvic, shes on many painkillers and now on morphine so worried to breastfeed- oh boy!!!!!
was suppose to go hospital but was worried about the distances and the snow! will def try tomo!

Devo - you better not have this baby early we r due same day so cross those legs and wait!

MissMarjoribanks · 11/01/2010 18:01

Hello all - you've been busy, struggling to catch up.

Congratulations to all the new arrivals - more lovely names as well. Nice to see the tally of boys beginning to even up (this from someone who was initially disappointed when she found out she was having a boy but quickly got over it)...

Ali sorry to hear about Jacob's hospital stay - not much fun for either of you. Glad he is home now and putting on weight.

Thomas is doing well, he was 6lb 3oz at weigh in last Wednesday and feels even heavier now. There was a comment above (can't remember who wrote it, sorry) saying that you can see babies growing - Thomas is like that - he looks bigger each morning and he makes these noises and stretches, which I always think is him growing!

I've had a couple of pretty rubbish days though - he sleeps so much and we can't go out because of the weather, I am getting serious cabin fever and hoping that he occupies more of my time soon.. I'm sure he will... otherwise I'll be petitioning to get back to work before the end of my maternity leave.

Sixmincepiessoontobeseven · 11/01/2010 19:42

Hi all

LOL sock I could just see headmasters face if I said girls not coming to school because I'm pg, snow, no car etc..

I do however have a lovely mum who picked them up for me and brought them home (school near her house)and will take them to school anytime.
But then I forgot about rainbows so at 4.30 I had to walk nearly the same distance again to take them but a friend brought them bsck for me. my pelvis is now like a vice and am in excruitating pain as I sit and type, so I will take mum up on her offer to take them in the morning and If I feel up to it I might try and pick them up.

Has anyone in their last week or so noticed a definate decrease in movement. My bubs hasn't been the most active of babys anyway but I have had to prod and poke it for any movement yesterday and again today, yet on saturday it was breakdancing in there.

Add another awwwwwwwwwwww to the image of Juliet and Eve, how cute.

ali glad jacob is on the up. And that thomas is thriving missmarjori

I can't wait to meet mine, I'm hoping I'll be like mistle posting in the morning, baby by afternoon.

Hope everyone had a good day, 5 days and counting.

Biccy · 11/01/2010 20:09

Hi sixmincepies, my babe definitely has some very quiet days now, and generally the kicking is pretty gentle. Gets a lot of hiccups though, and seems to be awake when I wake in the night which is concerning me! But I do find all I need to do if I think I haven't felt anything is sit down quietly with a drink and within a few minutes I'm feeling things. I think if you are really having to prod to get movements, then it may be worth getting in to be monitored for an hour or 2 - they really won't mind, and it should put your mind at rest. Also sorry your pelvis is so painful.

Sixmincepiessoontobeseven · 11/01/2010 21:22

Thanks biccy I have been getting lots of hiccups too, the other children think its hilarious. I have just sat for half an hour and as usual he/she is making a liar out of me and has been dancing again. The only prob is that every little movement causes me so much pain, even the hiccups.

I have just had the most painful cont/bh ever lasting for about 30 secs, couldn't straighten up and had to breathe through it, Fingers crossed its starting but with so many false alarms I won't get my hopes to up.

My waters broke at 4:30am and then contractions started about an hour later. A much better labour than the last one. Congratulations to everyone else who has had their babies.

Biccy · 11/01/2010 22:20

Great news misschatterbox, what a birthday present! Did you birth at home? And how did dd get on on her first day?

I think it's even stevens now between the boys and the girls with 10 girls and 9 boys.

Fraochsmum · 11/01/2010 22:39

Right folks...think this will be a long one
Firstly a huge congratulations to everyone else who has now met their beautiful wee babies! And a massive amount of good wishes to those who may be in labour just now or going through a rough ride x

I posted on here about how mine was going but will just recap in case it helps anyone:
Sunday morning I had a check up and attempted sweep, but she only managed to "tip" my cervix as Caras head was "one of the furthest down [she] had ever seen in a first born" so was hidden behind and just out of reach. Out of interest, it wasn't sore or uncomfortable. Later that day I had what I thought was a show, so went in at 8ish for a check and monitor - no change in cervix and not much of note on the monitor.
Monday morning my waters started breaking at 6am, so I went in again to check a few hours later. Again nothing of note, but was told I had 24 hours for things to happen or I would have to go to Glasgow and be induced, which I definitely did not want. Well the damn things continued to leak for about 13 hours - felt like I was constantly peeing myself! We did the usual tactics: long walks, an indian for dinner, exercise ball bouncing, but no sex as membranes had ruptured
I started to feel period like cramps that evening and began recording the times at 10ish. They weren't bad (but I hadn't felt anything prior to that - even Braxton Hicks)so decided to get some sleep. I got up around midnight as they were too uncomfy to lie down with, so had a hot water bottle to my tummy when they came - on average 3/4 minutes apart. I called the mw to give her the heads-up and she said to ring her again when the pain was starting at the top of my bump downwards, but to take a couple of paracetamol and a bath to see if they eased them. If not, call back. Anyway, bath was fine so I left it for the time being. They still weren't any worse than period cramp though.
I was sick about 2am (nice to see the sag aloo again!), but I still wasn't in pain per se. I went for another bath at 3.30 and stopped recording times. My mum came to use the toilet sometime later and I told her to just come in as I wasn't getting out! Anyhoo, she asked if I was sore and I said I was feeling pressure in my bum, but not over my tummy. My clever mum-of-three suggested I call the mw, which I agreed with as the pool or gas/air would be nice now.
Met mw at hospital at 5am and took a couple more contractions before she could examine me. Fuck me (sorry!), she said "this baby's coming now!" To which I replied; "What???" I was fully dilated, and would just have to push...no birth pool? No time, take breaths of gas and air if you want to.
Blimey. Pushed for sometime and my baby was born at 7.48am. Apart from taking a considerable time to travel a few inches, she was the perfect lady and left me with no stitches. Mw said I was a natural - love it!

After a while it was decided that my placenta was not coming so they would have to order me a helicopter, but hopefully it would deliver itself. No such luck. I was offered an ice pack for swelling, but thought there was no need as I would soon be elbow deep...
I was flown out at 12 and my DP had to drive the 3 hours up the road with my newborn in the car Operation went great, surgeon said there was no way it was coming on it's own though - think it was totally ironic to go through a natural labour then get numbed for the afterbirth Finally got my fantastic hubby and baby girl with me around 4.30pm.
She was given some formula before the trip, but has been all me since then. Really am loving breastfeeding, not to mention the fabulous boobs! I now have a g cup compared to the paltry b before I conceived!

I know this has been longwinded, but the moral of the story is that I didn't feel nearly as bad as I thought I would. Hence the reason I wasn't in hospital beforehand. I have no idea when I was in active labour, but was not nearly as horrific as I was led to belive. I realise not everyone has an experience like this, but some do. We are already talking about number 2...

For anyone still with me/awake, I have posted some pics

Fraochsmum - that is absolutely AMAZING! you must feel on top of the world!!!

Every first time pregnant mum should read your birth story when pregnant, I think when we are pregnant we hear too many horror stories and why do people always want to tell you about a horrible experience they heard someone had?

Well done though! Cara is beautiful

Can I ask where you nervous about the birth beforehand, they do say its less painful the less fear you have?

And also a big congratulations too to Misschatterbox!

x

Mama2b5 - i have pains now but they are mild period pains and not regular enough so must be just braxton hicks... you'll probably go before me but I want to go now!!!

Great news misschatterbox! And a gorgeous name xxx
Devotion and yangy - thanks for staying the distance! No I didn't have reservations about the birth, I am quite a relaxed person and had a trouble-free pregnancy so saw no reason to think there would be a problem. However, I didn't expect it to be as straight-forward as it was. I do agree that some just want you to think it is the worst thing that can happen - my most hateful quote is; "It's a pain you forget". Makes it sound horrendous to me. But not always

Pepa · 12/01/2010 03:41

hi everyone - I haven't been here for a while but just wanted to let you all know that baby #3 arrived on 9th jan (just 6 days "late"). I had a very long (3 day) prelabour with contractions every 10 minutes - 1 hour, but it was manageable. Just kept moving and getting on with normal day-to-day stuff.

When the midwife came to our house on Saturday (after the contractions got to every 5 minutes) I was thrilled to find out I was already 6-7cm. She then burst my waters and I got into the birthpool and Marilla Elizabeth made her appearance less than a hour later. This was by far the best labour/birth I have experienced and to anyone contemplating a waterbirth DO IT!!!

It was fantastic and totally took the pain away. I was laughing and joking in the tub right up to the point at which I started pushing (in fact the mw was saying I might have to get out as everything seemed to have stalled..) Pushing took 12 minutes and although it was painful, it over before I really got my head around it!

So I got my home water birth, and baby Marilla is being smothered with love by her big brother and sister and I feel pretty damn lucky right now.

Good luck to everyone else still waiting for babies to make their arrival's and congrats to everyone else who is here with me on cloud nine right now!!

sockmonkey · 12/01/2010 07:53
