Oooh crumpette what a whopper! Well done my lovely and hope you manage to sit down soon!
MrsVik - good luck! Can't wait to hear.

I'm trying to remember contractions. Both my boys were back to back, so pain may have been slightly different. I think contraction about covers it, felt very much like all muscles were squeezing, It kinda started in my back and spread round my tummy.
Have you ever tried those electrode thingies that are supposed to excersise your muscles and give you a six pack? It feels quite like one of those on high. Am making any sense?

chickbean · 10/01/2010 19:15

Well done Crumpette - your baby shares my birthday!

skidoodle · 10/01/2010 20:01

Congratulations crumpette

Best of luck MrsVik - hope things are going well for you.

Thanks again to everyone for encouraging words about the ELCS. It has really helped to put me in a better frame of mine about the whole thing.

Can'tThink - your baby turned the right way at the last moment? I suppose when you're happily on your side of things that probably seems funny, but gosh how frustrating too.

I seem to have had a total failure of imagination this time around about what it will be like having another baby. DH is the same. It has been very unreal to both of us. Now we have a date we are finally doing some preparation for the new baby.

mistletoekisses am I right that you had a section after going into labour before your planned CS? You've mentioned breastfeeding away happily. Has the section had any impact on milk supply? I'm going to do and do some proper research on this, but it has just struck me that last time I went through labour and was fully dilated before CS, so my body would have had the hormones released telling it to make milk. This time it will be different and I'm wondering whether it will take longer for milk to come in. I had great supply last time, so hoping for similar, but don't want to take it for granted.

Also any second timers find they didn't leak this time? I started leaking colostrum before my 20 week scan last time! This time, not a dribble.

ampster I think your LO is the same age as my DD (21 mos). When this thread first started we were both still feeding, although I stopped shortly afterwards. I thought it would help with my tiredness (it didn't). Well done for keeping it going all through the pregnancy. Having DH do night wakings has been a godsend for me. He moans about it, but I did 14 months, so he still owes me

Mama2b5 · 10/01/2010 20:47

Hi im back - had a dinner break DH cooked wonderful!

Fraochsmum -loving the name Cara- good choice.
Chickenbean - happy belated birthday- hope it was good.

Having slight pains but doubt it will end in anything serious, so just getting on DC3 so im sure LO will let me know when ready to come out! all a distance memory last DD is 9!!!

Early nite for me, because of the late one last nite! bath and bed i think!!!!!!

Good nite all - and pls no more snow, i want all DC4 to go to school - so i can chill!

Biccy · 10/01/2010 21:24

crumpette, congratulations! What a wild 36 hours you had... brilliant that you're home already, hope it's all going well.

Good luck Mrs Vik! Bethoo, hope something is on the move for you - don't think I've seen a post from you today?

Right, I'm off to make sure DP turns off the playstation in time for me to watch Being Human...

devotion · 10/01/2010 21:42

Yeah!

Congratulations to Crumpette and Fraochsmum - looking forward to hearing all about it in more details please ladies... when you get a chance of course

Great weight too Crumpette, my 2nd was 8.9lbs but she was a girl and they do say boys weigh more. My mw reckons this baby will be less than my first two - dont know how she can work that one out? we'll see!

Lots of period pains here and 2nd bout of diareohha (can never spell that one) which usually happens just before for me... i know, i know i am not due until 27th but I am getting jealous hearing about all these births ... i want my baby now!

lots of knicker checking for the show and hoping to see it each time i wipe myself after a wee. keep feeling damp but i think that will be the weakened pelvic floor - i only seem to do them when i mention those two words. pelvic floor, pelvic floor, pelvic floor... why do they feel so weird to do. they are not exactly hard and all us women know just how importnat they are to do... yet we just-dont-do-enough-of-them-sqeeeeeeeeze!

Bethoo - you ok?

maygirl · 10/01/2010 21:55

Congratulations crumpette!!! Hope you're settling in well at home.

Just had lovely night away with DH at our wedding hotel, pigged out on lots of lovely food

reusables I'm going with medium Itti bitti d'lish too! Plan on using DS1s old bambinex nappies, muslins with fleece and disposibles till baby is big enough. They look so cute, got a few stashed already. Hoping will only need a set of medium ones, DS1 potty trained young at 19 months so only needed size 2 reusables from birth to potty trained with him
I'm still bf DS1 too ampster, though luckily no night feeds/wakings for a very long time. Will be interesting to see what happens with two!
skidoodle, the placenta coming away and the withdrawal of the progesterone kick starts the milk production, so bf usually goes ok after an elective section. Hope everything goes well for you.

Good luck mrsVik

maygirl · 10/01/2010 22:00

Good luck devotion too!

lilacpink · 10/01/2010 22:26

Hi All

I haven't been on for ages, congrats to all the Mums who've had their babies
As many others here I'm on the guessing game of when I'll meet my baby. After having BH and period pains on and off since week 30, I've now been 2cm dilated and had two shows since early on the 8th Jan but still no proper regular contractions! I won't officially be overdue until tomorrow, but I can't believe I've felt on the edge of labour for ages. I've decided not to drive anymore, but apart from that am thinking of trying to get out and do things rather than wonder when things will really start - following the theory that labour starts when you plan something you want to do

Wishing good strong contractions for all those who want them now!

flyingma · 10/01/2010 22:31

Good luck MrsVik!

Congrats Crumpette (and WD now seeing the weight of the baby) and echoing what's already been said about lovely Cara's name!

sock I can't believe your DP was behaving like that at night. Actually I am surprised mine has been patient. He still thinks I am exaggerating the carpal tunnel but a few nights ago when I was having a particular crap night's sleep and apologised for waking him so often, he told me not to be silly and volunteered to go down to the couch if things got worse!! I swear the shopping bag (used to demonstrate the extra weight we have on us) that was passed round my antenatal class had it's impact even though DH whispered that he thought it was slightly exaggerated!!

ampster Good luck with the acupuncture. I've heard good things about it and know ppl who swear by the points that can trigger off labour - something to do with your toes apparently!

somewhat I read somewhere on MN on a thread about hospital bags someone said that vaseline is good for getting unstuck merconium (newborn baby poo) and (presumably you wash your fingers between ) can double up as lippy which they also suggest to pack. Not sure if any experienced mums can confirm/ deny this.

Having a similar dilemma re contractions as BH have become more and more frequent and strong. Just back from dinner with DH where I was telling him that we may be seeing the start of labour as bump seems to have dropped a bit tho I don't feel like it has engaged any more - I am going by the description that engagement feels like the baby is going to fall out.

CToFN Thanks for doing that hon!

congrats crumpette! sorry you had to go through the induction though without your DP / birth partner with you, how awful! also that size and no painkillers, you're a strong woman.

maygirl how are you finding still feeding DC1? i guess with no night feedings it's not so bad? DS insists on being fed to sleep, which is ok if he's actually tired and falls asleep within 20 minutes, but if not he'll stay on the boob for hours (literally), screaming if i try to take it away. it's driving me mad, especially as my tits are so sore, and his fingers so scrabbly. argh. then i get angry with him... then i feel bad for getting angry... then i worry about how it'll be with 2. but at least i won't be pregnant, so they won't hurt in the same way!

skidoodle am totally that you managed to wean your DC and get your partner to do the night wakings. DP owes me and will until the end of time, i think!

biccy yeah, my midwife keeps saying the same thing, that they're not worried about it not engaging yet as it's a second baby. i'm just stressed about the possibility of induction (and losing my homebirth) but should really try to relax about it, or i'll stress myself so much i won't go into labour anyway!

flyingma thanks for the good acupunture wishes. i've never had it before, hope it doesn't hurt!

maygirl · 11/01/2010 00:51

Feeding DS1 is all good now ampster, and easier to continue rather than stop. Soreness I had in early pregnancy has gone and he's gradually weaning himself. Feeds 0-2x per day for just a few minutes, morning and bedtime, not everyday, not usually to sleep unless he is knackered,(and then it's lovely, and about 3 minutes to snores!) and will settle fine for DH. Since I've been pregnant DH has dealt with the odd night wakings, toilet visits etc- he knows he owes me big time . It was harder when DS was younger though, has your DS got all his back teeth? I found my DS wanted long feeds around the age of your DS, and it stopped once all the back teeth through.
Hope soreness eases for you and hope you get your homebirth, wish I was going for one too

I heard the vaseline and meconium tip too, cannot comment, DS got rid of his meconium whilst still inside me, the staining was on his own head and pretty tough to wash off ! I didn't realise at first, thought he had gingery hair/brown skin

sazlocks · 11/01/2010 04:37

Slightly befuddled and hoping tht a few mins browsing on MN will send me back off to sleep. Seem to wake up at 3.56 every damn morning and DH has slept downstairs for the last week to give me a break but is now happily snoring away in our bed once again so while a quick pee and cushion re sort normally does the trick, I have left him to the bed and escaped!
crumpette well done and quadruple ouch !
Mrs Vik and Devotion good luck
bethoo hope things started for you
Chickbean happy birthday
ampster hope the acupuncture goes well
skidoodle I would like to know more about CS and BF as well as I found it hard to establish BF last time after my CS and ended up expressing for the first couple of days so DS was fed by DH with a syringe thing. The MW tried to help but it was only later that I found out that after a CS (I was fully dilated too) that babies often don't feed properly for 24-48 hours. I had no issues with supply either - it was more about DS not latching on.
All good here. Got all the baby stuff out of the loft and ordered the new crib matress. Typed up instructions for care of DS for lovely, but slightly clueless as to how to deal with a toddler, FIL and MIL. It will take them 1hr 30mins to get here so also got local friends on standby to step in if we need to rush off. So just need to finish packing my hosp bag and I think we are ready. Still crossing my legs metaphorically until the 27th Jan when my CS is booked but as that will be 40 +3 then I need to realistic about the chances of the baby making its own mind up about when to arrive in the meantime
All the mental effort of typing has made me hungry so off for some cereal.
Good luck to everyone needing birthing vibes..........

skidoodle · 11/01/2010 05:08

Hi sazlocks, good middle of the wretched night to you

I has exactly the same latching issues last time as you describe.

My own personal explanation is that my reduced mobility meant I wasn't able to make the subtle corrections needed to help her get latched on well.

I'm hoping this time my previous experience, plus the fact that I won't be so wrecked from induction, labour, emcs will help with this.

Weirdly though I seem to have forgotten everything about breastfeeding in the last 6 months. I have a feeling I'm going to be learning again from scratch.

ampster don't be too jealous. He still doesn't actually wake up while I sleep blissfully through. I have to wake him up. Hence I am awake at this stupid time.

I wouldn't even bother except Madame won't settle for me anymore for some reason. He goes in, she settles straight back, he goes back to sleep and I lie awake for hours. Luckily it's not every night

sockmonkey · 11/01/2010 07:58

warning - moan coming up

DH has a really bad cough, and kept me up most of last night again. ARGH! To be fair he did offer before bedtime to sleep on the couch, but I told him not to be silly. He then kept coughing right in my face. I DON'T WANT YOUR GERMS YOU NUMPTY!!
DS2 ended up wandering in at about 2.30 and got into bed with us, but DH must have annoyed him too, cos he suggested we went into his bed. Cue the both of us squashed in the bottom bunk. I just want to sleeeep!!

And the school is open today, so no excuse to stay in all day.... speaking of which, better get pacing some sandwiches!

Biccy · 11/01/2010 08:34

Must have been something in the air last night, I had a terrible night's sleep too. Meant to get to bed early, but DP wanted to talk about what we're doing with our dining room (we need to work this out so we can decide where to put a radiator - it's a bit chilly at the moment), and I so often engage him in these sorts of conversations at stupid times of day that I felt I had to go with it...

So, got to bed about 1, having already allowed dd into our bed, as she was having a nightmare at her usual time just after midnight. He came to bed and put her back in her bed, but at around 2.30 she woke again having hysterics because he hadn't put her rabbit back with her. I spent 45 mins resettling her in her bed, and then before I could get back to my bed, she was up again - so of course in she came, but I couldn't get back to sleep - last I saw on the clock was 4.30. Then woke for a pee at 6. Then awful leg cramp that has left my leg really sore at 7... etc.

anyway, moan over...

mistletoekisses · 11/01/2010 09:41

Morning all!!

DS at nursery, DS2 just fed and downstairs with his daddy. AM in bed watching dvd's and mnetting. Lush!

Biccy - thanks for the update on the swine flu jab and your DD. Will chat about it with DH and make a decision this morning. But your reasoning about trying to protect the newborn is very compelling. Thank you!

MrsVik - hope things are progressing.

SWH - no pearls from me I am afraid. I think everyone is different. My symptoms last week were many peoples false alarms. For me it was the real deal. I just didnt feel quite right and had not had these symptoms ever before.

CTFN - am thinking about a glass of vino (not right now), last time I continued to abstain while bfeeding, am going to read into a little bit more. Am sure a little bit is ok isnt it?

Crumpette - HUGE HUGE congrats to you!! How are you feeling? Are you ok? How are things with your DP? Please post on here if you need any support. At the risk of sounding patronising, am a little worried about you. Please please come on here if you need to talk etc.

Mama2b - so glad your baby shower went well!

Skidoodle - yes, both times I went into labour before the dates of my elective section. So both are classed as emergency sections. But from my understanding and from all the discussions I had with professionals, it is quite rare that a section impacts / delays milk coming in. Both times, my milk has started to come in at end of day 2 with supply starting to settle around day 4/5.
DS1 had problems latching on and feeding as he was so little. But DS2 has been latching on and feeding since the day he was born. He seemed to be settling into a 3 hour routine the last few days but since 3am this morning has been on 2 hourly feeds. Am just going with it as obviously my supply needs adjusting in line with his appetite. But I too had no leaking this time during pregnancy and touchwood supply is fine. Am making sure I rest, eat well and drink lots of water. HTH (sorry for long post)

Devotion and lilac - sending you both and anyone else lots of birthing vibes.

Bethoo - hoping that you are doing ok???

Skidoodle - I thought that I had forgotten everything about breastfeeding. But it all came back to me as I latched DS on, didnt need anyones help this time round.

Ali/ Lottie/ MMB - how are you all doing?

to all those with unsociable waking hours. I am managing to feed / settle DS and then fall asleep again. So feeling ok at the mo. Ask me again in 6 weeks time!

Morning all.

mistle please wait for us, its nice to hear how the little ones are doing, and obviously pick up any tips if needed.

I'm still here waiting, have a knackered car and everyone back at school and work so I have walked the two Primary schoolers to school. My pelvic area is sooooooooooooooo fecking sore, I had like electric pains on the left side of pelvis and down leg last night. Was awake in the night, felt like crying with pain but again came to nothing, I'm here for the duration I think. Am now finding it increasingly difficult to even walk. Have managed to tidy downstairs when I came back, If I keep moving it eases but once I stop I can't get started again.

Hope everyone with LOs are doing ok, Anyone Labouring is ok, and anyone who is now as fed up as me is ok.

6 days to go!!!!! [fingers crossed emotion]

whensmydayoff · 11/01/2010 11:23

Morning,

crumpette so happy for you, ive been lurking and waiting for baby Crumpette to arrive for days now. Congratulations and enjoy your baby boy cuddles.x

Im finding it very hard to keep in touch since Olivia. Im even thinking maybe I should wean myself off mumsnet as I should really be using what little time I have to get things done or play with DS !

I was on last week moaning about the amount Olivia feeds and how exhausted I am. I then appologised for moaning about a baby that feeds TOO much as I had the opposite problem with DS and thats horrible too.

I feel more justified now since having her weighed on Thursday last week.
8lb 2!! Yes, she was born 6lb, one week later she was 5lb 10oz (lost weight as they do). 1 week after that she was 6lb 10oz and 1 week after that she was 8lb 2oz. Thats 1lb 8 oz in one week. Do you see my problem - she NEVER STOPS DAY AND NIGHT.
I swear she is MUCH bigger again, Id say she is near 9lb judging by clothes.
We have re named her monster munch. Seriously though, I don't know how much longer I can keep up the amount of feeding.
I counted last night. I got 2 seperate sleeps of 40 mins each and that was an average night.

Moan over (for now)!

alibobins · 11/01/2010 11:36

Hope more babies are arriving as I type

All is going okay finally settled at home fingers crossed no more hospital stays for Jacob.

He is such a good little baby he just feeds and sleeps and is usually awake for about an hour in an evening. He's still struggling with a cough and making him sick but hospital said its just his way of clearing the mucas can't believe he's a month old today.

Lottie hope Dh starts to feel a bit closer to the girls you've been through so much to get where you are maybe he just feels overwhelmed x x
