Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Carikube · 30/01/2010 17:45

I've been off the thread for a few days and have missed so much! Have tried to catch up but am not doing a very good job so apologies to all.

Angel I already have leaky boobs (though not too much fortunately) - I think it might be sleeping on my side which squashes them a bit (they're quite big....)

I now have sciatica which is making walking painful so waiting to find out if I can get a physio referral as the thought of being in this much pain for the next 15 weeks is not doing much for me . Anyone else had this during pg? I didn't have this problem first time round.

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 30/01/2010 19:10

Pigley - hope you're OK and your Mum didn't upset you too much

I used the Lansinoh manual breastpump a bit last time as well which was very cheap somewhere.

Carikube - sciatica sounds awful I had it a little bit last time but luckily not really bad. Hope you manage to get a physio referral.

The 3D/4D scans sound great, I always wished I'd had one with DD. Probably won't bother this time but I would if I wasn't having extra scans.

mollybob · 30/01/2010 22:42

oh alex sounds stressful

pigley hope you're ok - families really suck sometimes

ML pleased things went well for your friend

carikube sympathy re sciatica

my boobs have started leaking too and tingly like a proper feeding let down whenever I get emotional etc - at work tonight it just took a sweet snuffly 6 weeker...

my back is so sore - over my shoulder bladesd - think it's my mega boobs as well as working at a computer all day - DH has been rubbing my back which he is very good at but it gives him ideas and quite frankly I could do without all that! As well as a 2nd trimester bloom last time I also rediscovered my libido from about 16 weeks to about 30 - poor DH is still hoping that will happen but no sign just yet...

Hollyoaks · 30/01/2010 22:49

Hi all, not much to report here. DD had a great 2nd birthday and really enjoyed her party though the woman organising the food and music was the least enthusiastic party person on the planet. The usual girl had rang in sick but it didn't spoil dd's fun.

Baby is extremely active, still just under 23 weeks so find it hard to believe the placenta is anterior.

cupcakefairy · 31/01/2010 12:15

Carikube I have sciatica and I totally sympathise, it's so nasty. I recommend paracetamol (especially just before bed, and the non-caffeine kind!) a dream genii pillow, and lots of rest. I've had a bit of time off work and dh has been mostly doing everything for me- v frustrating, especially when you're meant to be in the 'blooming' second trimester but after 3 weeks it is finally starting to ease a bit.
Keeping knees together really helps too- ie when getting into the car, back your bum in first then swing round. Hope that helps... I have been walking around clutching one butt-cheek cos it was the only way to ease the pain, I look totally crazy

We went to Mamas & Papas yesterday for the first time, gorgeous shop! Wanted to just buy everything...but we didn't we wanted to compare the M&P Sola buggy cos it's v similar to the iCandy Cherry but think we're still set on the Cherry. Titch is v v active but always stops whenever I get dh to feel, so frustrating!

Carikube · 31/01/2010 12:30

Cupcake thanks for the advice - although I had twinges when pg with dd I think it is worse this time because of having to carry her all the time. I can't wait for her to start to walk as she is getting quite heavy these days!

DD also had a really bad night - she seemed to be having nightmares (I'm not quite sure what she can dream of at 10 months old that could be so scary) and we have not heard screaming like that from her before. Most bizarre... I think we'll all need a nap this afternoon!

mustbemadno3 · 31/01/2010 12:50

schipo I think its a 4d scan! I have another scan at 34 weeks to check to see if placenta has moved as it is a low lying posterior placenta. Thats in March, so thought I would go for the 4d scan in between dates. Apparently I'm having a girl but want to check before I start splashing out on pink! And most importantly want to check if everything is o.k as I hardly feel any movement. I told the midwife but she just said some babies are less active than others, which really isn't very reassuring?

Hope everyone else is o.k and thank you for welcoming me to the thread I have enjoyed reading everybody's experiences so far.
I'm suffering today as went to a fab party last night didn't stop dancing and got back very late. But I'm bloody knackered today and my feet and back are killing!

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 31/01/2010 13:26

Cupcake - I'm with you on the Mamas & Papas! We went in yesterday to look at some of the furniture ranges that we had seen online, but weren't as restrained as you! Came out having ordered a nursery set (cot-bed, wardrobe and dresser/changing unit) and our pushchair (the Urbo, if anyone's curious). We also ordered my sister's pushchair and carrycot for her at the same time, as the manager of the shop agreed to give us a 10% discount for a bulk purchase. Not bad for 45 minutes' work.

Hobnob - all the mattress chat seems like ages ago, but we actually ended up choosing one in a snap decision in the shop yesterday while getting the other stuff (thought we might as well make the most of the 10% off!). We went for a "sleepfresh regulair" sprung one from M&P that has a breathable waterproof membrane.

We were lucky enough to be given a car-seat yesteraday by some friends whose youngest has just grown out of it. It's a maxi cosi cabrio, about 3.5 years old. Does anyone know if that is compatible with an isofix base? The current model, which can be used with a base, seems to be called maxi cosi cabriofix, so I suspect that the one without the Fix suffix might be pre-isofix. The people who gave it to us weren't sure - their car didn't have isofix anyway so they never had any reason to find out.

littleowls · 31/01/2010 13:57

Hello all, haven't been able to post for quite a while. I am just going to sneak back in and join in the conversation!

Cupcake - I too am pretty much set on the icandy cherry, I love this pram. I am just in a predicament about the colour. I don't know the sex of LO, so should I go for neutral fudge or does it matter if it comes out a boy and has to ride around in a purple pram? I don't care personally but I do care what others think for some reason!

Carikube - Dreamgenii pillows are fab, have one too and it does make sleeping more comfy, plus it cradles bump, definitely worth investing in if you are suffering.

Marquise - sounds like you are getting organised with cot etc. I read the mattress conversation from last week. I too was confused about the choice. Going to get cot etc during this next month. I have just got a cabriofix seat for my pushchair. I know this attaches to an isofix base - I am assuming it does need to say 'fix' at the end to be compatible with isofix.

I have spent a while attempting to catch up with everyone's news but it has been a few months since I last posted due to no internet connection and changing providers. I have found that most of the conversations were about stuff I had been thinking about, which has been a real help. I hope everyone is well and enjoying being pregnant as much as I am (although I do have my neurotic and panicky moments)!! x

memorylapse · 31/01/2010 14:06

talking of M&P..I had a lovely pliko pramette for dd2 and car seat but ebayed it..so Ive got one second hand from ebay this time..its the pramette in ice which is a slivery blue..only paid £67 for it and its in immaculate condition..Im very pleased..sadly after buying new after dd then selling it I wasnt prepared to do the same this time as this is definitely our last

AnAngelWithin · 31/01/2010 14:42

i debated the pliko pramette but wanted a pushchair that faces me. My pram goes to a pushchair after anyway, and seeing as we aren't garunteeing that this is our last, we justified spending the money on it haha. Supposed to be picking it up tomorrow after we take the dog to the vets. Depends what happens at the vets though

Den26 · 31/01/2010 16:35

Hi All, just popping in, all posts very helpful, glad to hear everyne buying, planning to buy things. Was starting to panic that i was tempting fate and buying too early!

Went crazy last night and stayed out with friends until 1am !! My Backs paying for it now though! - too much standing!

Angel - hope all goes ok at vet tomorrow...

mustbemadno3 · 31/01/2010 19:02

anangelwithin Have you brought the pliko yet? Because we have just brought the stokke xplory and that faces forwards or backwards. It's really smooth and high up. Was quite expensive (about same as the bugaboo) but hopefully it will last until baby'd older.

CloudDragon · 31/01/2010 19:41

hi can I join the thread!

I'm due May 1st with DC no.3 (no.4 for DH)
Found out that we are having a girl will be bit of (happy) shock as the first three are all boys.

Carikube - I had sciatica very badly for a few years and terribly in first preg. The best thing I found was reflexology and acupuncture - truely stopped the pain.

ANd using a pillow under my bum on the painful side when in the car.

And a pillow between my legs at night.

Hope it goes soon

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 31/01/2010 19:44

Hollyoaks - happy birthday to your DD

CloudDragon - welcome to the thread

Pregnancy pillows can be great - I have a V-shaped one which I tuck between my legs and it's lovely.

memorylapse · 31/01/2010 20:08

Angel..the pliko pramette faces you as well

I had my bump painted today and have uploaded the pic to the face book group

kateyjane · 31/01/2010 20:21

Hi Hope everyone is okay.

cupcake and littleowl I have the icandy apple and I absolutely love it.

ML Your bump painting looks amazing!! Am very jealous, I don't even look pregnant at all - just a bit chunkier. Don't have a bump or anything. I totally understand what you mean about not buying a new pram when you know it is your last DC. The pram is tha only thing I didn't sell or give away. This time I'm planning to beg, borrow or steal

Welcome cloudDragon

I agree about v shaped pregnancy pillows - the only way to get a decent nights sleep.

Sorry not to reply to everyone personally.
Take care and have a good week.

Carikube · 31/01/2010 22:25

Welcome cloudDragon

I have been using a v-shaped pillow since I was about 16 weeks - it really saved my life during my first pg and I don't know how I'd sleep without it! Here's hoping the physio helps as well (though it hasn't been as bad today).

We're still debating about pushchairs (ie we still haven't got a clue what we're going to get!). I can see we won't make any decision until after this one is born so I will end up as I thought with dd in the buggy and the new one in a sling...

Hollyoaks · 01/02/2010 08:39

Hi all

Just reading my last post all of the personal messages that I had typed fell of the bottom when I posted it so it sounds like all I'm talking about is me . Can't remember what they all were now, sorry.

Clouddragon welcome to the thread .

Pg pillows they're a god send, I'm not in any extra pain apart from general achiness (sp?) but I couldn't sleep without one.

nursery managed to get dd into a big bed last night for the first time. It took all day to clear her bedroom as had to take down the cot, and then put up the new bed, head to Next for bedding and then rearrange toys. I'm knackered and we still have to paint her room and the nursery and buy a new carpet. [tired emotion]

pushchairs we still have dd's pliko which I will use as a pram at first (I think) but family are pressuring suggesting we get a double buggy. DD will be 2.4 years when baby arrives but I think I will manage with the one pram and a buggy board or I'll be with dh and he can push a second lightweight buggy if we need it. However, dd will be 32 months when I go back to work in November when family will be taking them both for me and they don't think they can cope with one buggy. Phew, long explanation, basically, will dd want to sit in a buggy when she's nearly 3?

Hobnobfanatic · 01/02/2010 10:13

Well, so much for a shopping splurge at the weekend. Traipsed into the nearest town for the Asda Baby Event and there was hardly anything there! Bought nothing!

The next NCT sale is at the beginning of March - might hold on until then and just buy the cot mattress on the internet in the meantime. I just don't have any energy for shopping, though that's only going to get worse!

MUstbemad - where do you get your energy from? Dancing till 1am?!

Littleowls - nope, I HATE being pregnant! It's just a cross I bear to have children. I HATE the sickness; I HATE the lack of energy, the sleeplessness, the tiredness; I HATE the aches, the pains, the inability to do what you want to do because a blooming great bump in front of you and SPD; I HATE the worry, the not knowing if the baby is okay, the hormone shifts and tearfulness/moodiness/panics that I can get; I just HATE it all!! But it's only for nine months and I'd do it all again 100 times for my kids...

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 01/02/2010 11:18

I didn't know there was a facebook group! I have asked to join if that's ok

cupcakefairy · 01/02/2010 12:50

littleowls we're going for the fudge colour Cherry - it was our favourite anyway and then some friends offered us their fudge carrycot so we were sold!
I personally think purple/pink etc are bad colours for prams - only cos when you see a Dad walking on his own with a hot pink pram he looks a little silly and I wouldn't expect my dh to have to walk round with one! So I'd always go for neutral. The Cherry comes in a nice red/black combo though? (Officially called liquorice I think)

Carikube · 01/02/2010 13:40

Hobnob glad to hear I'm not the only one who doesn't get that excited about being pg. Much as I'm thrilled that we'll have a new baby, pregnancy itself I find to be a pain more than anything - a long list of things I'm not allowed to do/eat/drink any more, feeling like a beached whale and the not knowing that everything is ok. But as you say, 9 months isn't that long in the grand scheme of things and when I look at dd and see how much happiness she has brought us, it makes it all easier to put up with...

newmomma · 01/02/2010 13:58

Hi ladies,

carikube and cupcakefairy Sorry to hear of the sciatica problems - me too - its awful isn't it? Like walking on knives. Hope it doesn't last all the way through... Am going to see a chiropractor tomorrow to see if he can help.

Any of you had any experience with a transverse (sideways) baby? The MW I've just seen says it explains why I'm so huge this time round and so uncomfortable too. Is there anything I can do to encourage the baby to get into a better position?

Lots of discussions going on about prams/pushachairs... The only thing I can add is that friends with the M&P version (Pliko)? say it is very hard to change from the pram version to the pushchair and most of them ended up going back into the shop to get them to do it. They have both said they'd buy something else given the option again...

Does anyone have any experience of the iCandy Pear? My son will be 16 months old when this LO arrives and so will have to get a double...

ForcesSweetheart · 01/02/2010 15:54

Hi everyone, just a very quick post to say I'm still here and still alive. Not been on for ages and not caught up with hundreds of messages but hope to do that over next day or two. Not been too well, am loaded with cold, blood sugar's gone haywire so am now on insulin, spd crippling me - got crutches but they don't help much, all in all feeling lousy and wishing it was April 22nd already. Hope everyone's doing OK and I'll try to get caught up asap!
