gizmo · 14/01/2010 22:25

I'm pretty certain that Hermione is still a rarity, Cantsleep. Which is probably for the best, as it's not the easiest name to live with....and its an awfully grown up name for a little baby.

madamefreckle · 14/01/2010 22:57

Woofie, love your boy options - I would've gone for Fred if it was a boy (2% chance?)Also love Edward/Edmund - Ed/Ned but had a boyfriend by that name and it wouldn't have gone down well.

For girls I really like Florence and Clementine (mentioned by others) but neither would sound good with surname or in conjunction with ds's name.

Give me your thoughts on:

Ellen
Elizabeth
Jemma
Arianne
Frances
Kate
Freya
Tabitha
Louisa

Ooh...I really don't know about any of those and i can always find a reason to discount each one I come up with. I'm finding girls' names SO hard! I'm so glad I found out at the scan otherwise the poor wee frecklette prob wouldn't get a name til it was 4 months old!

Goodname - Baby boys are totally gorgeous! Don't worry for a moment. As soon as you have him you won't be able to imagine having a girl!

Gina - Get well soon!

OP posts:
madamefreckle · 14/01/2010 23:01

Or...one more girl name choice, favoured by DS - Kanga! I'm thinking that would actually be quite cute (think possibly suffering from pregnancy madness or generally just delusional)

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 14/01/2010 23:04

Ooh you have my name in that list madamefreckle (although mine isn't spelled quite the usual way)!

I like Frances, Freya (though popular I think) and Louisa from your list, in addition to my own!

gaelicsheep · 15/01/2010 00:15

Hello ladies. Can someone please give me a slap? Had delayed 16 week check today with my GP. She tried listening for heartbeat, with big caveat not to worry if she couldn't find it. Guess what? She couldn't find it, now I'm worried and cross with myself. I felt the baby move after she'd been prodding and poking me and I know that it's more than likely she couldn't find it because baby was wriggling around. She heard sounds that she thought were movements, she thinks the placenta's at the front because it was so loud (!), and she wasn't worried.

Until now I was pretty happy that I was feeling foetal movements. Now I'm doubting myself and starting to worry myself sick. Will someone please tell me I'm being stupid? Thanks.

Hope everyone's well. xx

gaelicsheep · 15/01/2010 00:17

To clarify, before anyone picks me up on it. I am aware that there wouldn't be foetal movement without a heartbeat! But now worrying that all this "movement" might just be wind! Dr said I measured fine for my dates (17 weeks). Why oh why am I so paranoid?

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/01/2010 07:46
Cadmum · 15/01/2010 08:08

gaelicsheep: It is ridiculously stressful, isn't it? My next appointment is on the 20th and in the meantime I have started to worry endlessly. I borrowed a friend's doppler on Wednesday and despite trying 3 times, cannot find a foetal heartbeat either... I fluctuate between thinking that I feel movement and that I don't. It is certainly not a very nice feeling.

When is your next scan?

wheredidmyfeetgo · 15/01/2010 09:43

Oh Gaelicsheep I feel for you, it's horrible isn't it. I had my 16 week apt with my midwife yesterday. I was worried as I hadn't had my triple test yet and I had none of the blood forms for it so I didn't know if I had missed the boat. I was also worried as I also can't make out if I can feel movements or if it's wind!
Well my MW was so nice I'm going for the triple test on Monday.
Then I popped up on the couch so she could listen to the bump, it took her a while but we did hear the heart beat. I think she spent a while longer as she knew I had got myself worked up. The bump then decided to move so she found him again so I could have another listen and calm down- which I thought was really sweet of her.
She asked me why I was so anxious and I said I think it's because I know so many people that have had things happen I'm not as nieve as I was with my previous 2. I don't take it forgranted that I'm going to have a healthy baby. It almost feels as though I'm pushing my luck going for a 3rd when I have 2 healthy boys at home.
Gaelicsheep Can you go back for another apt to have another listen, My MW has said to call her and make an apt to have a listen if I get worried again. She said she would rather put my mind at ease and it only takes a few minutes.
Sorry for the remble, I hope everyone else is well.

NizzyNoodles · 15/01/2010 10:52

Loving all the names! Keep them coming as I'm on the look out for a girls name that I've not used yet and that both I and DH like - at the minute we've only got one and I'm not 100% about that either!!! Of course it might be a boy and then there's no problem.

Hope everyone is all well - and try not to worry anyone who's worrying!!! (although it's easier said than done...)

MrsDmamee · 15/01/2010 11:19

hi All...im in a right moany mood today, lucky for DH he is gone all day.

16 weeks and im still getting sick, decided to chance having chinese for dinner last night even though everytime ive had it i throw it all back up..but stupidly i assumed maybe the sickness is gone because ive had a peaceful few weeks since new years, but oh no still no chinese food for me.

had appointment with my consultant yesterday and she is concerned that im still bleeding on and off for nearly a month now, had a mini scan in her office and placenta is low but so will need to have scan at 32 weeks to see if its moved and thats likely to be the reason im bleeding, but baby is ok heartbeating and moving around.

Im just so tired today

Albrecht · 15/01/2010 11:30

gaelicsheep Please try not to worry.

I had my 16 wk check up on Tues and it took ages to find heartbeat. MW had a student with her and explained to her afterwards that although you can generally find a heartbeat after 10 wks, around 16 wks is the hardest time as the placenta is in the way and can completely block the sound. After 16 wks the placenta usually rises so its easier to hear.

Why MWs don't seem to explain this properly to us, the pregnant ones and why they choose 16 wks to do the heartbeat listening if it is the most difficult time, I do not understand! But please try and relax, remember you getting stressed is not good for lo either.

meggymegmegs · 15/01/2010 13:37

Can I join please? I know I'm horribly late to this thread, but I need some people to talk to who are going through the same things as me at the moment:

2nd - meggymegmegs, 31, #1

So, as you can see from the above, it's my first and I'm shocked on a daily basis by the bizarre things my body is doing that no one bothers to tell you until you're in the thick of it!

I'm currently 20 weeks and I'm not going to find out the sex (my scan is next Wed - nervous...). Btw - doesn't everyone ask you that 'are you finding out?' it's driving me mad at the moment .

I had a previous miscarriage at 10 weeks a couple of years ago and it's taken until now to get the guts up to try again, but luckily all seems well this time.

Had an awful first few weeks with constant sickness and nausea until 13.5 weeks, since then I've been feeling cautiously good. Trying my best to enjoy this middle section before I get huge and all that.

One thing I wanted to ask is how big is everyone else? I'm a size 16 and I know being being bigger can help disguise your bump somewhat, but I was really expecting to be showing by now. I'm still easily fitting into my normal clothes - is this normal at 20 weeks? I'm pretty sure that being violently sick for weeks has helped me to keep the weight off (in fact I'm still 4lbs lighter than my pre-pregnancy weight) but i was really expecting people to be able to tell by now, but they can't.

Anyway, looking forward to spending the next 20 weeks with you all

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/01/2010 13:48

Welcome meggymegmegs. I am still in normal clothes at 16 weeks. In fact I didn't wear any maternity clothes with number 2 - just stretchy normal stuff. I am a bigger girl too (bigger than you) and I think it does make it less noticeable. I remember one of dd's teachers at pre-school exclaiming that she didn't realise I was pregnant when I was already 7 months (I did have a bump by then, but I guess that she just thought that I was very fat!)!

playftseforme · 15/01/2010 13:58

Hi everyone - not been around for a while - been struggling w life in general . Flippin 'eck - boiler probs, car probs, dd w high temp and me w a painful hip, with dh not coming back until end of Jan. I'm going rapidly insane. So glad the thaw is on, after the umpteenth time I dug the car out, had pretty much had enough. It's weird but I'm just sort of assuming the pregnancy must be ok, cos I've got no energy left to devote to worrying/thinking about it..!

Anyway, enough drivel from me...

Welcome MeggyMegMegs - I'm pretty tall and it was ages before I needed bigger clothes. I was still riding at 5 mths, and even in jods people couldn't tell. Different story this time round though

NizzyNoodles · 15/01/2010 14:18

Welcome MeggyMegMegs. It does get a bit wearing being asked if you're going to find out the sex doesn't it? We get it constantly with 2 girls and everyone asking if we're "hoping for a boy" - I'm just "hoping for a healthy baby"!!!!

I'm a similar size to you and it's only the last couple of weeks that I'd say I've got a bump rather than just being tubby - I'm sticking to long tops and leggings at the moment as the maternity stuff is just too big still. Although I'm starting to get those looks from people where they're trying to figure out if I'm pregnant or just fat!

We have lots and lots of slush here - makes trips around the village very interesting. Luckily the buggy is doing well - we've got a bugaboo and it's doing really well in the snow. Much better than my stroller that I keep in the boot of the car. I've also got a Jane Powertwin and I'm not sure that would cope quite so well either. Now I sound like a complete buggy addict.....

fillybuster · 15/01/2010 14:44

Gaelicsheep - please don't worry (yes, easier said than done...) and if you still are, then get yourself over to your GP or back to the midwife and get another check. Honestly, they wont laugh at you and if it makes you feel better its not a waste of time

Meggymegmegs - welcome, there's always room for more! Glad you're over the sickness and starting to 'enjoy' the pg...I didn't find out what I was having the 1st time, did the 2nd and can't decide whether I need to know or not this time around (have one of each already! ). As for maternity clothes: I'm a 10/12 and was in normal clothes until 25 weeks with ds (although feeling quite fat), until 20 weeks with dd and, oddly, was already in maternity stuff from about 10 weeks this time - I think my stomach muscles have finally given up!! Don't worry - anyway maternity clothes are grim, so the longer you can avoid them the better

Playftseforme - , sorry you're having such a miserable time. I've got bad sciatica but am finding that rolling it hard on the pressure point in my hip with a golf ball, altho it hurts at the time, really helps alleviate the pressure - worth a try? Its so tough dealing with sick dcs alone, isn't it...hopefully things will get better now the snow is finally melting....

Nizzy - I resorted to saying "well, I've got a boy, I've got a girl, so....a puppy would be nice". At least it stops the conversation I've given up on the bugaboo and am just using the phil&ted (one wheel at the front seems easier in the snow), but yes, the mclaren is firmly parked right now!

MrsD - sending your placenta 'up' vibes

Wheredidmyfeetgo - I'm worrying for exactly the same reasons as you...in theory, 2 healthy pgs should be less cause for worry but I am so much more concerned this time around because I know so much more about all the things that can go wrong...and also feel a bit 'guilty' about risking a 3rd with 2 healthy dcs at home. Sigh. You just can't win at this parenthood thing, can you?

MrsFreckle - love Jemma, Kate, Louisa and Freya. Not Kanga though, unless you're going to settle down for a lifetime of winnie-the-pooh jokes

Greensnail - underwired feeding bras?? Link right now please!! You may have just made my week...assuming they go up to around 34F-ish......

MrsDmamee · 15/01/2010 14:52

welcome meggymegmegs

im a size 14 and dont really have bump at 16 weeks still wearing my normal clothes trousers got a bit uncomfortable nearly straight away.(1st pg i didnt show until 22 weeks+)
its my 3rd pg and with horrible MS still ongoing i lost 10lbs which is just annoying as i was trying to lose weight before i became pg and if i had of known just get pg and then hang out in the bathroom for 16 weeks go off all food and tada weight falls off

and yes nearly the 1st question people ask is "oh are you going to find out what it is?" im not finding out this time, did last time so people just assume im going to do same this time.

chestnut100 · 15/01/2010 15:08

hi all, and welcome meggymegmegs

I can't bleieve how quickly are thread is moving on; i can hardly keep up! I loved all the name chatter. I must have met to have not really starting to think about it too much, although my current faves for a girl are Flora, Norah, Daisey or Frankie, and for a boy Stanley or Jasper. Any thoughts?

After my rubbish midwife app two weeks ago where she wouldn't listen to the heartbeat, I went to the docs on Wed with a few general gripes, and he happily listened to the heartbeat, which was so brilliant, and such a relief! Can't wait forthe scan now!

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend

MrsDmamee · 15/01/2010 15:15

filly thanks for the 'up' vibes ill pass them down to the placenta.
im not too worried i have to say this pg has been one thing after another so its kinda oh right i can add that to the (long) list now

GibberingGinger · 15/01/2010 16:59

Just updating the list a little. I hope nobody minds but I've also tidied it a little (I'm so anal ) so we can add the next lot of info (boy/girl) if anyone wants to.....

Sunworshipper · 15/01/2010 18:20

Hello everyone, May I join you.

This is my first baby, due on 21 June following three years of IVF. I've been lurking for some time and everything you have been talking about has made me feel more normal again after the strangeness of IVF so I finally found the courage to ask to join you. I'm nearly 18 weeks now and am just starting to feel a bit more like myself again. Well, at least I know the triggers for the MS now. I don't seem to show in the morning but in the evening I look as if I have a small beachball stuffed up my dress. It's great to be here.

whenwillisleepagain · 15/01/2010 19:21

Welcome Sunworshipper, I am glad you are beginning to feel yourself after some time, and having been through so much. and welcome Meggymegs too.

I can't keep up with the thread, but just had a quick read and wanted to thank Nickytwotimes for being so open, I can relate to lots of what you say. And that's why I couldn't face a second baby until now (DS was 3 in Nov). People used to look horrified when I had some of my more honest moments about how I was finding motherhood.

Had 20 week scan on Tues - it's a girl, who was lying across my tummy and picking her nose. I am having elective c-section at 38 weeks - had a really good talk with the doctor, and she took us through my labour notes from last time in such a helpful way. I felt like I made a good and quick recovery from the (emergency) c-section last time, so am hoping for the same again. Bit thrown by realising all my dates will come forward though - looking like May 18th.

MonkeyMargot · 15/01/2010 19:22

Hello sunworshipper and congrats on your pregnancy. Isn't 21st June summer solstice? good date!
Gosh 3 years of IVF must have been v.stressful. How are you feeling now you are into the 2nd trimester? Does it seem real yet?
everyone is v.friendly here and lots of first, second and third timers! I have a DD of 13 months and am expecting twins on 30th June (a bit of a surprise to say the least!) Welcome
