Nothing wrong with being fussy. You and he have to live with it for a very long time!
I guess that most of mine err on the side of posh, without being all out double-barrell! Hugo is one that we can't actually use as it doesn't sound right with our surname.
Riley was, iirc, the highest climbing name last year (well, 2008), so you might find that you soon do know 10 of them!

goodname · 14/01/2010 14:26

Have a list of boys names too but its fine if you dont like any of them, everyone has very different ideas.

Alexander
Joel
Seth
Nathaniel
Fergus
Archie
Hamish
Fraser

I also like Robert, Jacob and Joeseph but those are my nephews names and I like Elliot and Ethan and poss Oscar but those are taken by friends/relatives already.
Think the last 4 go well with our surname (Cameron) and my husband would like a Scottish sounding first name. He also wants Lochiel for a middle name (Its the name/title of the Cameron chiefs or some such thing, he is rather into his scottish history.)
He also likes Dougal, Donald and James but I am not too keen
Oh and very sadly he would like to call him after a Aberdeen Football Club player called Zander Diamond. Dont think he is being serious tho

Thanks for the comments so far on having boys, please keep them coming

mampam · 14/01/2010 14:40

Quite like Archie but I'm sure there was a reason why DH and I had ruled it out, although I can't think what the reason was now??

We've got friends/relatives who have already taken Joseph and Ethan. Thats the problem though isn't it, you find a name you really like and then you remember that so and so has already got a child named that or their vicious dog is called the same thing!!

I've got 2 friends who are also pg and we are all due within 2 weeks of each other!! I'm hoping and praying I give birth first so I have first dibs on the names!!! Sods law would have it that they give birth and use the names I've got my heart set on!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 14/01/2010 15:24

Did I get the wrong end of the stick mampam in thinking that you didn't want a popular name? Archie was no 35 in 2007 and 31 in 2008.

I see we like some of the same names goodname. My ds has a Scottish name (on my list but not yours ), which might explain why I have a leaning to slightly Scottish ones so that they go. We don't actually have any scottish connection though, so don't want something overtly Celtic!

LaTrucha · 14/01/2010 15:38

Of those that have been suggested I like Evan and Alexander the best. I wish I could use ALexander but can't for various reasons.

Congratulations on the successful scans. We had MW appointment today and was reassured to know (because of right royal F up last time) I'll have at least one extra scan at 36 weeks, maybe more.

I think I'm going for a VBAC (gulp) as I think I will have quite a lot of monitoring in the run up to the birth so said right royal one shoudl not happen again. Also, we would like to have a third baby, so a VBAC would make this easier.

NOT an easy decision though Mampam. I think in some ways now, a c-section is the devil you know and a planned one seems more predictable and far less scary. I do think that if you've had prbelms last time and you try and VBAC they whip you off for an emergency one pretty sharpish, so it might not get to the same extreme point as last time. That's supposed to be reassuring! All the people I do know who have had electives have had very few problams on recovery. Nothing like mine at any rate.

HAd MW appointment this morning. ALl well, strong heartbeat so very . Cannot WAIT to find out if it's a boy or a girl in a month's time. I wish I could be patient like some of you other ladies but I cannot.

fillybuster · 14/01/2010 15:50

Oh god...off MN for 3 days and I'm miles behind

So apologies to all if this is a lousy catchup

Had a v tiring week, plus my sciatica has come back in force so I could barely sleep last night as it was aching so much down my back and legs

Definitely going to find out the sex, but almost certainly won't be telling anyone...apart from you lot, of course . DH doesn't really care (we've got one ds and one dd already) but I think I'd like to know so I can the right stuff ready (and work out how best to deal with the existing dcs since one of them is going to be losing their 'only' status)

Saucepanman - yes, lousy skin here too. Probably not helped by the non-stop central heating, freezing cold wind and my desire to mainline carbs and cheese non stop. I use Clinique facewash and a combination of Protect&Perfect (Boots No 7) creams and Waitrose Bottom Butter (I know, meant for babies bums but pure olive & camomile oil with organic vanilla...smells lovely and a real boost )

RnB - the icandy looks fab! In fact, it looks like a lighter, cleverer version of the original bugaboo frog, which we bough waaaay back (ok, it will only be approx 5 years old when flump arrives ) when ds was born. I love it dearly, and despite being in constant use for 4 years and counting, its still fab...but there are some design niggles and it is heavy - the icandy looks perfect [trying not to be too jealous emoticon]

LittleRobbo - LOL @ boobs platform...my norks have become utterly enormous already and my left one in particular is getting very painful in a milk-producing way far far far too early! I keep waiting for let down, even though 18.5 weeks can't be normal for that... Oddly, I'm still wearing my normal bras, and they're not uncomfortable, but I think that just indicates how stretched they already are I refuse to switch to soft bras until after the birth...6 months of unsupported breasts is perfectly enough for me and I'm still that no-one told me you can wear underwired bras when pg as long as you get them measured/checked regularly until after ds was born

LaT - lovely names Agree with you about the control feakery element too! Glad the mw checkup went well...sorry about the VBACC, but you're right to go with the safest option after the difficulties you had with Sabela.

Nickytwotimes - first, I think you're very brave for speaking so honestly about how you're feeling...it can't be easy admitting it at all, as it so opposed to how you're 'supposed' to feel [brave face emoticon]. Second, although it may not help, doing everything the second time around is a million times easier. All the confidence you gain from having been through the process before (even the stupid stuff, like not getting completely panicked when you change a nappy and discover poo all the way up the baby's back!), makes you feel much calmer and more in control. Which, unsurprisingly, results in enjoying the whole thing a lot more. I found the first 6 months with my ds very difficult (and repetitive/boring/frustrating), and also found the 'loss of self' thing particularly hard and was shocked at how much pleasure I got from having a baby the 2nd time around. Maybe it helped having already re-established the 'self' boundaries in my head to accommodate 'mother' as part of my self-definition by then? Fingers crossed for you. Oh, and Cadmum is right - having an older child also makes life easier in a lot of ways...my dd has been happy to just watch ds since she was about 3 weeks old

For the first-time mums out there, contrary to wot Gizmo sed, I had a pretty much angel baby and still found the whole thing impossibly hard....do not be surprised if the whole having a baby thing is more of a shock than you expected!

MadameFreckle - lovely news and glad the scan went well

Mampam - so glad your dh has been prescribed the ads...feel free to keep venting on here for as long as you need. I had a dire induction at 42 weeks with ds but it ended with a huge epesiotomy (followed by a really awful uterine infection and infected stitches, but that's another story), but managed to get dd out at 41 weeks on my own (with lots of castor oil...yuk!) and minor tearing (although had infected stitches again ). In your position I would probably go for the c-section rather than risking any additional injury to sphincter etc but that's also because my nether regions have taken a long time to recover from the delivery of my first 2 dcs and (despite the risks) I think I would take an elective c-section this time over a 28 hour labour, really bad tearing and months and months of painful or non-existent sex (sorry if tmi )

Goodname - why can't you eat cheese? According to Neals Yard Dairies, the biggest risks are fresh cheeses...anything more than 6 months old, or hard, will not be any safer if made from pasteurised milk as new bacteria have time to grow after that anyway. I would have thought that cooked cheese (fondue, raclette etc) would be ok regardless, and what do french/swiss pg women eat, anyway? Don't worry - boys are great!! My mum is one of 3 girls, and I just have a sister, so like you, no experience of boys (IYKWIM before we had ds. Apart from boy's ability to wee straight up in the air during a nappy change (just have something to hand to clamp over the top of the willy as soon as the nappy comes off! ), they're basically the same. Fear not

Lots of lovely names being listed...particularly like Alex, Evan, Ethan and Zack, but like the Spanish ladies, I have a dual language challenge...one of the reasons I want to find out the sex, as we've used our top boy and girl names already

Sorry...this has taken me the whole day to write and is probably embarrassingly huge....sorry to anyone I've missed and sending good vibes and happy stuff to all you over-emotional bumps (dh says I've been hell to live with recently...and I keep bursting into tears for no reason....). Roll on the bloom

Woofie · 14/01/2010 15:51

goodname - baby boys are great. They definitely love their mums, which can mean they're a bit clingy (mine was anyway), and take longer to learn to wee in the right place etc, but so rewarding. Despite originally hankering after a girl, having dss and ds has totally changed my mind!

Ahhh the name game - fraught with the possibility of offending. Might as well get it out in the open - dss is George, ds is Oscar - in my opinion, solid classic names, but both fairly 'popular'. At the moment, Florence and Clara are top of our girls' list, while Ned (Edward)/ Fred are our boys' choices. Don't tell me if you hate them!!!

Woofie · 14/01/2010 15:54

Oh, and big congratulations on your growing freckle-etta, madamefreckle

LittleRobbo · 14/01/2010 16:37

woofie love those names! especially Florence. my ds1 is Zachary, very popular with the girls at school due to the Zac Effron link! Ds2 is Oliver which i'm surprised no-one has mentioned yet,as i think its really common, but still lovely.

mampam it seems the thread is swaying more towards the elective?

goodnamelittle boys luuuuurve their mommys Congratulations!

filly at still wearing normal bras,i have been in sports hammocks for weeks, really unattractive! I would love to treat myself to some pretty maternity underwear.

Woofie · 14/01/2010 16:45

Thanks littlerobbo Really like Oliver too - in fact Oscar was originally to have been Oliver, but a good friend got there first!

mampam - no C-section experience, but it certainly sounds like you've got to put your own future health first, even if that means not having the birth you'd choose.

goodname · 14/01/2010 16:51

Florence is my favourite girls name and I like George and Oscar

greensnail · 14/01/2010 17:18

fillybuster you can wear underwired bras afterwards too, so long as they're well fitted. You can get underwired feeding bras - off to find a link for you....

CantSleepWontSleep · 14/01/2010 17:23

You can't if you're as big as me greensnail .
I've been in feeding bras for years .

greensnail · 14/01/2010 17:30

underwired nursing bra I've never used that website for bras so don't know if its any good - but the bras are great!

I feel a bit odd about the thought of having a boy too (although am secretly really wishing for one). Feel a bit strange about the thought of my female body producing a male one, and also somehow can't imagine myself breastfeeding a boy. Do I sound completely mad.

Am enjoying reading everyone's name lists. Am trying to remember what boys names we have on our list, some that come to mind are
Samuel
Andrew
Ewan
Ben
James
Alex
We're struggling for girls names really as we can't find any we agree on at the moment. Particularly would be keen on a scottish girl's name if anyone has any ideas - we can't think of any that we like that aren't already in the family!

GinaFB · 14/01/2010 18:05

Hello everyone. I am still tucked up in bed recovering with the dreaded PIG FLU and haven't really been online!! So much catching up to do.

Hope everyone is feeling ok and those of you suffering are improving.

Loving the names! We are going to find out at 20 weeks as I need to know what we are having! (not a control freak at all!) I don't mind either way but I'd like to know. Several boys and girls names in mind but no agreement. Oscar, Edward and Hugo are my fav's at the moment!!

I missed my 16 week session with the MW as I have been ill so will have it at 18 weeks now instead! Not feeling any movement but I have a little bump now which is lovely!

mampam · 14/01/2010 18:45

CSWS Archie is crossed off the list now. Didn't realise it was so popular. Where do you find out that kind of info?

LaTrucha excuse me here but I'm being a little bit thick slow. What is VBAC???

greensnail I'm liking Ewan. DH does too. Any other ways of spelling it???

mampam · 14/01/2010 18:49

LittleRobbo Yes you are right, thread is swaying toward an elective section. Think inevitably that's what I'll go for but I'm not ready to say it out loud and admit it yet as I'll spend the next 19 weeks worrying myself silly!

fillybuster at infected stitches. Ouch.

LaTrucha · 14/01/2010 18:51

Vaginal birth after caesarean. I got it from MN! ANd you can spell Ewan Euan.

Cadmum · 14/01/2010 19:24

Ooh names... I hate to even start thinking about them at this stage with my history but I had to laugh when I saw greensnail's list as we have nearly all of those in our house already (between first and middle names) and the remainder on our potential shortlist.

I always find it interesting how people have similar taste in names.

greensnail · 14/01/2010 19:38

Cadmum in that case you'll need to tell me your girl's list when you're ready to start thinking about them, as we obviously have similar taste!

mampam yes It can be Ewan or Euan. Try this site if you want to find out which names are popular.

CSWS I feel your pain, its well over a year since my boobs saw any underwire, but i'm defintitely going to treat myself to a bit more support next time I'm bra shopping! Doesn't quite compare with your 4 years of feeding though.

Did I misread mampam's story - i didn't think she'd had a CS before?

CantSleepWontSleep · 14/01/2010 20:12

mampam - you can get the full 2008 list here.
I have the equivalent for 2007 too, which gives a comparison with 2006, but I can't find anywhere that still has it to download.

LaTrucha · 14/01/2010 20:21

Yes Mampam had a tear and has been advised to have a c-section this time. I may have put things badly.

dinosaurinmybelly · 14/01/2010 20:37

Hello - away for a few days and just sneaking on for a quick peak with internet connection. Wow - this thread is fast moving. Apologise that I don't attribute the responses to all the right people:

mampam I am very nervous about anything surgical but when I put myself in your current position, I would opt for an elective caesarian, and then maybe try / read some hypnobirthing techniques to help you maintain that element of control leading up to the birth and help you cherish the period immediately before / after. You will have to get yourself some support for the recovery period though...

nicky thank you so much for being so honest. I felt exactly like you. My DS1 wasn't an easy baby, and it felt like everyone else was coping much better than I was. I had a week of maternity leave before the birth from a very fast-paced job with long hours, and I think the shock was tough. I found myself resenting that I had lost myself, as you say, to something all-consuming, and I couldn't check emails or read the paper etc. When I became pregnant with DS2 I was sad because I felt like I was clawing out of the tunnel and getting some freedom back, but then something happened. I surrendered myself to a slower-paced life and I realised that my previous life wasn't as fulfilling. By the time DS2 came along when DS1 was 20mths, I enjoyed him so much and I knew how quickly each phase would pass, so I didn't panic as we entered each difficult time. Having a toddler to grab nappies, and just talk to made a difference (although you don't get to watch the TV that you want to the second time I really think these feelings are common, and that it will get better.

I can't remember who posted - was it goodname but again totally sympathise with the "what will I do with a boy baby?" feeling. All I can say is that it has been wonderful - aside from peeing, they are totally the same and so cute with their little boyish ways. They are so active, and a friend of mine joked that they would need exercising twice a day - I've found that to be true - and so I'm much fitter as a result. I'm now worried how I will cope with a baby girl this time!

Such fantastic names posted - I love Zach, Noah, Ewan, Fred, Ned, Alexander and also the Scottish suggestions, of Angus, Dougal etc. Re: Scottish girls names - my sister-in-law is Scottish, and they have gone for Morag, Fiona and Niamh which I think are lovely.

I am just ballooning now we are on holiday.. bump is really rounded and heavy now.

MonkeyMargot · 14/01/2010 21:35

Ooh i do love this talk of names. Cantsleep I love Hugo but can't use as a good friend called her DS that recently. The penalty of having children later in life I guess, all your friends use up the ones you like!
woofie I love Florence (and its diminutive form, Flossie) and Clara too (although it does take me back to that childhood classic TV programme with the worst ever dubbing, "Heidi of the Hills")!!h

mampam google "Baby name popularity" and it will take you to the Birth and National Statistics website which lists the top 100 names for past few years for both sexes. My best friend named her DD "Grace" 2 years ago, thinking she was being very original, and was then shocked to discover it was the No.1 girls name for that year! It pays to check out the popularity charts.
Good luck with making your decision on CS or not. So hard, only you know what is best for you. A lifetime of bladder issues doesn't sound much fun at all.
I am hoping not to be forced down the CS route because it's twins. Though as gibberingginger says, 2/3 of twin births end up being CS.

Here are some of the ones I'm considering;_
Girls:
Allegra
Bunny
Clementine
Fenella
Florence
Hermione
Imogen
Saffron

B oys:
Bruno
Cosmo
Dougal
Percy
Rafferty

Congrats to those who've had their 20 weeks scans and have discovered the sexes. My scan seems ages away (another 5 weeks).

I keep getting an incredible thirst in the evenings - is this normal? I'm fine during the day but feel like drinking gallons of cold liquid in the evening (which am trying to avoid as pee enough in the night as it is).

CantSleepWontSleep · 14/01/2010 21:41

Oh MM I have suggested Cosmo and Rafferty to dh too, but he vetoed both (and actually Cosmo has the same 'o' sound problem that Hugo has for us).

Hermione is lovely, but I understand (because I've neither read the books nor seen the films myself) that there is one in Harry Potter - I don't know whether it has increased it's popularity or the opposite though.
