welcome Earlyonemorning, and congrats to all of those who have had scans

I heart the heartbeat today, was so nice to hear. My midwife has been doing a study on te correlation between the speed of the heartbeat and the sex of the baby (faster = girl) and all except one has correctly predicted the sex. Apparently it's towards the end of pg when they do it. V interesting!

RnB · 17/12/2009 10:33

haha love my typo there. I meant I heard the heartbeart. But I do heart the heartbeat too

nickytwotimes · 17/12/2009 11:20

Ah, interesting about the heartbeat speed.
Wonder if it works this early on? I thoght this wee one's was a bit slow, which would be good as that would mean a wee lad. We only have 2 bedrooms and one boy already!
Seriously though, don't mind AT ALL what gender we get.
It WAS lovely to hear it's little miniature horse gallop.

fillybuster · 17/12/2009 11:25

Morning ladies, and welcome earlyonemorning - I'm very impressed at 7 weeks lurking

Can i have some reassurance please? I've always put on loads (and I mean loads) of weight in the first trimester, even when I was sick as a dog with dd. But this time, a combination of probably being a bit more careful than usual and a 2 week tummy bug (now, thankfully, finally finished), means I weigh exactly the same amount as when I got pregnant. I know I shouldnt worry, but I put on 4 stone with ds and 3.5 with dd, so this just feels a bit...wrong. Everyone's been commenting on how thin I look, and given that I've got a proper pg bump going on now, and my tits feel enormous, that must mean I've lost weight from the rest of me. Please please please tell me that this is ok and that flump isn't going to be underweight/small as a result? Both my first 2 were really big babies....

Sorry, I'm probably just being silly, right?

greensnail · 17/12/2009 11:32

midwife when i was in labour with dd said her heartbeat definitely sounded like a boy think i'll just wait and see this time!

Had my liver scan this morning, and scanning lady said it all looked fine, which is great news. I'm sure she had a little peak at the baby at the end but didn't let me look! Back to hospital for day assessment unit this afternoon so hoping i will get to hear heartbeat too!

How did glucose tolerance test go csws? Hope you're not going to be stopped from indulging over christmas.

nickytwotimes · 17/12/2009 11:32

Hey, fiily.
See my post from last night - I am also exactly hte same weight as before I got pg due in my case to hyperemesis. Mw said absolutey NO NEED TO WORRY. Baby, etc, take up little weight atm and you will probably, like me, make up for it as time goes by!

Fwiw, friend of mine gave birth weighing a stone less than when she atarted out due to hyperemisis and baby was healthy 7 pounder. She wasn't at her best, as obviously you need to be putting on weight later on, but atm, no worries.

nickytwotimes · 17/12/2009 11:35

Great news, greensnail!

Filly, I also have a bump and double sized boobs. Dh says my arms and legs are stick-like. Given I was about a stone and a half LESS than this at the worst, I must habve looked flipping hellish! I am happy to be getting a bit tubbier now.

CantSleepWontSleep · 17/12/2009 14:11

Gosh filly - we're only supposed to put on 5lbs in the first 20 weeks anyway, so it really isn't a problem. I have lost a couple of pounds so far, but that's fine for me. I usually end pregnancy lighter than I start it (that's after giving birth of course), but put on loads of weight when the dc start solids!

GTT went ok I think greensnail. I managed not to be violently ill like I was when they did it at this stage last time, so that's gotta be a good thing . Results will be sent to GP in about 4 days. The finger prick result that they do first was ok though - lower than the ones I had to do when I had GD last time, so I'm taking that a positive sign. Am concerned that if I pass this then I don't get another test until 28 weeks though - that's a long gap in which I could develop it. But I think we've got my home blood test kit from last time working again, so in a few weeks I'll start testing after breakfast (generally the hardest time to control GD) every couple of days to keep an eye on things myself.
Has anyone else on here had GD before?

How did your liver scan go today greensnail?

Welcome earlyonemorning .

greensnail · 17/12/2009 19:48

I had same pattern of weight gain as CSWS last time and have fingers crossed for the same again.

That sounds positive about your GTT then CSWS fingers crossed results come back ok.

Liver scan went fine, all looks normal, and clinic visit this pm was all ok too. Had more bloods taken (after 3 attempts - ouch!) and have to go back to see consultant on new year's eve. Luckily they didn't try to get me to come in on christmas eve otherwise they would have been faced with another irrational meltdown!

Hope everyone else is well

AlwaysHopefull · 17/12/2009 20:53

Time for me to start joining in again, I think. I've also been lurking on and off since October because I didn't want to jynx it. I added myself to the list the day I got a BFP and then thought it might be bad luck to tak about it even online, so kept away. Now I'm 16 weeks and over the nausea, exhaustion and migraine and feeling fit as a fiddle and ready for Christmas. I have to say that some of you have really been through the mill compared to me and I'm always impressed by how everyone copes. The support you have all given each other is amazing.

My baby was very bouncy and active at the 13 week scan, so all is happy with my bump. My date has been recalculated as June 2nd, but I'm not so sure - by my reckoning, they're nearly a week out...

My bump looks pregnant in the morning and enormous in the evening! Made it to my last smart-work-clothes day before Christmas in my normal fat-day trousers (I'm not the only one to have different trousers for when I feel fat or thin am I?) but was bursting out of them by home time! Maternity trousers all the way when I go back to work! Jeans are still fine, though because they're so much lower cut.

Interesting to see what people are saying about the drink over Christmas. I went out with some colleagues for lunch yesterday and drank about an inch of wine with my main course - the first wine for about 3 weeks, I think - and still drank more than some of the others. They said "oh no, I can't drink at lunchtime and then work"... doesn't your perspective change when only having a mouthful is your only option?! I very much enjoyed my few sips and will most definitley be having the same on Christmas day.

Best wishes to everyone for the festivities. I'm not good at this online malarky, so may not be back for a while.

Take care ladies and bumps xx

madamefreckle · 17/12/2009 23:09

Ha! Yes, I know the fat-day trousers! Glad it's all going well AlwaysHopefull.

fillybuster · 18/12/2009 10:44

Thanks for the reassurances everyone...I know I'm foolish to be worrying about this, but my weight does usually shoot up in the first 20 weeks and my GP always gives me a bollocking about it. And I usually finish pg (post c-birth) about 3 stone up from where I started. I guess as long as I can have my usual 8lb 10oz size baby then I shouldn't be worrying....its just that I like having big babies...actually, scrap that, I don't like having them, but i know I worry a lot less about feeding/sleeping etc once I get them home!!

Just bunked off work for 30 mins and made a snowman-mountain (not very sticky snow!) in the garden with the dcs....ds loved it but dd was very uncertain about the whole thing, bless

We're all at home today - dh is wfh, as am I, as I convinced him not to moped into the City; ds's school is shut (it was only the last half day of term anyway), and dd is home with the nanny - so a very full house Its a bit noisy tbh....

Doesn't everyone have fat trousers? I've been living in mine for work for the past few weeks - the problem is that apart from the bump, nothing else is bigger, so they look ridiculously baggy around the bum and legs But I have been in my maternity jeans for 4 weeks now...I could probably squeeze into some of my normal jeans but it would be far too much like hard work

GibberingGinger · 18/12/2009 11:03

I haven't put on any weight and am very perplexed about it . Last time I put on 5 stone (weighed the day before birth) - and am hoping not to repeat that this time as only 3.5 stone of it came back off. I'm still in my usual trousers (which are fat ones as I've still not got into the skinny ones - see above 1.5 stone weight gain!) However a lady at work today said she could definitely tell I was pregnant, but I think its maybe just that I'm wearing a huge baggy jumper today against the cold.

Only today, monday and tuesday left at work. Hurray. Am really looking forward to some time off.

Hope all are over the nausea - I'm not but am hoping it will lift soon. Hi to all the newbies

mampam · 18/12/2009 12:24

Hi all, hope you are all ok? Got lots to tell.

Went to see MW yesterday and heard the heartbeat for the first time.....amazing. DH and I are actually for the first time excited about having this little nipper.

MW said my bloodpressure is low but I didn't think 90/60 was particularly low???? I've also got SPD (already) so MW's referring me for Physio.

Wierd thing with MW, she started ranting on about Swine Flu jab saying it's best to keep things as natural as possible, she's one of the 85% of Health Care workers that have refused the jab because it's not been tested for long enough, it's a Government led thing not a health care professionals led thing and that there aren't any real confirmed cases of it in our area anyway!!!

I'd made up my mind to have it, but now I've got doubts!!

DH much better (thank you again for your well wishes). Went to the GP yesterday and asked for counselling, so here's the thing: the waiting list is huge in our area and now the GP can't refer him, he has to fill in some assessment forms and then he will get a phone call and have a further assessment on the phone and they will then decide whether or not he qualifies or not! If he does he will be put on the ever so long waiting list!!

It's a load of bloody crap isn't it??!! I wish for his sake that we had the money to get him some counselling sessions privately.

We've had a card from his parents (who he hasn't spoken to for 3 years- long story) saying they are pleased we're having a baby and they can't wait to be proud grand parents. It's nice for DH because his parents have been real shits to him. I'm a bit dubious but one step at a time.

I'm really pleased for everyone who has had their first scans.

I'm still in my normal clothes at the moment but am gonna buy some baggier things in the sales after Christmas. I'm 5'8" and have really long legs so am going to have to order maternity jeans from the internet.

mampam · 18/12/2009 12:27

Greensnail, good news about your liver scan.

Fillybuster you lucky thing having snow. We rarely see snow down here on the south coast of Devon!! Usually have to drive up to Dartmoor to get a glimpse!!

dinosaurinmybelly · 18/12/2009 13:07

Welcome earlyonemorning and good to hear from you always hopeful. Great to hear too that things are on the up mampam but annoying about the long waiting list for counselling. Still I would work to get on the list, as sometimes the list ends up not being as long as they lead you to believe.

I hadn't heard that so many health professionals were against having the swine flu vaccine! I can imagine how confusing that must have been for you at your appointment. I had mine last week and have a bit of a cold at the moment - not sure if the two are related. It is really freezing here, so there is a strong chance that I've just caught a cold - but we still don't have snow! Very jealous of your snow shenanigans fillybuster

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend...

greensnail · 18/12/2009 13:07

mampam I'm also one of the 85% of health care workers who haven't had the jab. For me its just because i was waiting for 12 weeks and now haven't quite got round to it. I think a lot of health workers would have it, but the practicalities of getting to the occ health clinics to get the jab prevent people. I've only had the seasonal flu jab once and that was because the people giving it just happenned to be having a clinic on our ward at a moment when i wasn't rushed off my feet. Not entirely sure what my point is, but just wanted to say that i don't think it would be fair to say that 85% of health workers are against having the jab, just because they haven't had it.

Oh, and i would say 90/60 is quite low. Some people always have low blood pressure though and it doesn't really affect them. is yours normally around this level?

fillybuster · 18/12/2009 13:38

mampam, I'm usually 90/60 and no-one has ever said anything...I eventually creep up to about 110/70 towards the end of pg but that's as high as it gets...if thats normal for you, don't worry Sorry to hear about the massive waiting lists for counselling though - annoying that gps can prescribe medication really quickly but that genuine solutions (like counselling) are so hard to come by. But glad things are looking up overall and you're both getting a bit more excited about the baby

Dinosaur and mampam....snow is overrated

LittleRobbo · 18/12/2009 17:07

I am filling up even at the opening credits of Paul O Gradys last show! Damn you hormones or should that be

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/12/2009 17:50

I tended to be 90/60 or 100/60 through most of my last pregnancy, and there was no concern over it.

I have gestational diabetes already . Borderline, but there. Seeing diabetes midwife on Monday, and will have to live on diet of chicken, veg and small amounts of brown rice for the next 28 weeks.

greensnail · 18/12/2009 18:03

oh no CSWS that's rubbish, poor you.

I've just had another phone call from the hospital offering me an appointment at yet another department. At least they're taking me seriously i suppose but it seems a bit like overkill. I told them about the other appointments I have, and they were going to look again and see if i really have to see them too.

Off to work tonight, lucky me

Hello,

Hope it's ok if I join? Haven't used this site before so hoping this works...

I'm due 1st June and have just told everyone at work. Is a big relief as I can relax and don't have to worry bout people guessing or looking at my tummy in a funny way!

I seem to finally have a little more energy (like everyone promises will happen in the 2nd trimester, though I've been in it for bout 4 weeks!)so looking forward to xmas!

xx

katelele · 19/12/2009 13:09

Hi again,

Just read back over some of the messages and it's really nice to hear other people's opinions and experiences.

Re maternity trousers, has anyone bought them from H&M? They have a sale on right now, so I went in excitedly to get some replacements for the work trousers I've been popping out of... didn't have many smart trousers so I tried jeans, and to my horror found that I couldn't even get the 12s over my thighs, and even the 14s felt really tight and I had to jump to pull them up! I know that my tummy, and I guess hips, are a fair bit bigger, but I thought maternity trousers accounted for this so I'd still be the same size. Are they particularly small?

It was a tad distressing as I'd been excited about getting bigger, but I had my work xmas do that night so ended up feeling rubbish

I'm also tall Mampap (5'10"), but don't know wwhat size to order now if I go online... any suggestions?

x
