PC - Glad you got home ok and received some well deserved papmpering after your walk.

mummyhill · 07/07/2005 21:22

God my spelling is getting worse by the day!!!!

beatie · 08/07/2005 08:37

Hi all!

I hope all those in London yesterday managed to get home safely.

Well - I am not one of those people measuring big - I am measuring small. I had a midwife appt. on Tuesday and she has referred me to the Obstetrician next week. I expect I'll have a growth scan. I'm trying not to worry. The same thing happened with my DD and she was born at 6lb 5oz at 38 weeks.

BUT - I did have to go for the scans every two weeks and it resulted in me being induced. I was so hoping to avoid an induction this time - I was hoping for a waterbirth and now feel disappointed that my pregnancy is not seen as normal anymore.

Please cross your fingers that this baby measures spot on come next Tuesday.

Not mush else is happening... I have a wedding to go to tomorrow. We're taking DD and I'm quite excited to get her dressed up nicely. We're moving hous ein about a week or 2 weeks. About bloody time! It has been quite a stressful process but hopefully we'll have time to get everything done in the new house before this baby makes an appearance. DH is a teacher and breaks up next week so I'll have him on hand to help (er... do everything )

Kiwifruit · 08/07/2005 10:29

Morning all - am suffering from a pulled bum muscle, due to the 2 hour walk home last night (managed to get a taxi for the last 10 minutes, which was bliss). Am in agony!! Would have been nice to get a foot rub when I got home, but DH had a bit of a trek too...

Have got my booking in appointment at UCH this afternoon, which I'm quite excited about. Though to be honest I'm probably more excited about the fact that I get the afternoon off work...

Fingers crossed that you measure OK for your water birth Beatie. I will be very disappointed if something happens and I can't have one (although know I need to be realistic about the availability of the birthing pool...).

beatie · 08/07/2005 11:00

Kiwifruit - Make sure you take it easy tonight. That two hour walk at 6 plus months pregnant cannot have been fun. I expect you'll feel the effects today.

hi beatie, don't worry about the scan, my mw told me the baby was too big, but 2 weeks later at next appt, it hadn't grown at all so is the right size now. i was taken into the andu yesterday for a full m o t as i woke early hours of thursday morning with contractions, apparently i have a water infection which can cause contractions so am now on sick and resting, i'm sooooooooooo bored. ladyl, am so glad i live in a quieter place this week, hope all you london ladies and families are all ok after the carnage of yesterday, jessysmummy, i said the same thing to my dp about bringing children into the world today, certainly makes you think about things. i live in the north west and we had 2 bombs in the town centre once, it was one of the worst experiences of my life, so i really do sympathise. think i'll catch up on last nights big brother now. see you all in a minute xxx

Piccalilli · 08/07/2005 11:21

Glad everyone's safe, sorry to hear you had such a long walk Kiwifruit. We hadn't managed to get into work as the northern line was down anyway from quite early so dh and I had a day at home, which was lovely apart from fighting over who had access to the laptop to try and do some work.

Baby's a bit quiet today - trying to tell myself it's just because I'm tired and a bit stressed.

Kiwifruit · 08/07/2005 11:33

Don't worry Beatie - have plans to spend the evening on the sofa with a soppy movie and a takeaway Thai (DH is out tonight, MIL is coming to stay for the weekend, so we can take advantage and watch something girlie...). Am going to treat myself to a taxi to get to my MW appointment this afternoon too.

My how my Friday night expectations have changed...

bubbles2904 · 08/07/2005 11:34

piccalilli, i'm sure the baby is fine, do you not usually get quiet times?

jessysmummy · 08/07/2005 12:05

Hi all
piccalilli, hope all is fine with bump - think we all have some quiet days and others where we feel like we're being used for football practice. After a couple of busy days, junior has been very quiet so far today despite my jumping around at DD's musical mini class! Am now eating some chocolate to try to wake up bump...but not concerned.
Beatie - keeping fingers crossed that you measure up ok for the waterbirth that you want. Have fun at the wedding.
KF sounds like you've got a nice day ahead - afternoon off work - after the trauma of yesterday. Hope all ok with MW - and a nice lazy girlie night! Have fun.
Am waiting for mother to arrive - she has the famiy late gene so I could be here for some time! We're going to an outlet village to see if we can find her something to wear to this wedding in August (the one I've given up finding an outfit for). Though the weather looks a bit too nice to be trekking around stuffy shops. Hope she finds something quickly and we can enjoy the rest of the day, though from previous experience we could be in for a long haul...
Also have PIL visiting on sun. Not looking forward to it - they're not very nice people - even DH agrees though I suspect that they are visiting to make a contribution to junior's nursery as they did with DD so will have to grin and bare it - yes, I know, very twofaced of me
Once again I've waffled on a gain - sorry! Have a great weekend everyone!

Kiwifruit · 08/07/2005 13:22

FFS - was all ready to go to my appointment, then pulled out the letter to check the time, and guess what, it was on Wednesday. How could I be so stupid . Of course had the only possible pg reaction and burst into tears at my desk - now . Am trying to get through to make another appointment - so far have spoken to 4 people who can't help me and spent 40 minutes on hold. Opps, have just spoken to 2 more people, and am still on hold... How hard should this be?

Redhelen · 08/07/2005 13:38

Hello all

Beatie - I hope all goes well next week & Kiwifruit - rest loads over the weekend - & I missed my antinatal class this week too as I had the time wrong - made me really angry as I'm normally so organized! My babies quite still today - maybe its resting after yesterdays anxioties?
I'm really tired and need to rest - but find myself flitting around doing stuff. Still waiting for an energy surge (end of anaemia or similar!) - I'll be disspointed if I still feel like this by due day!

Piccalilli · 08/07/2005 13:39

Bump is usually quieter when I'm at work - something to do with the way I sit, I think, but usually I've felt something by now. Feeling a bit tearful. I might try some cold water, see if that provokes some movement.

Kiwifruit · 08/07/2005 13:40

FINALLY got through and got another appointment. Not until 27th July though . Serves me right. Took me over an hour to get it sorted, and think I spoke to 7 people in the end. Don't think it should really be that difficult. Ah well, all sorted now. Bummer is that now I have to stay at work for the rest of the afternoon

Redhelen · 08/07/2005 13:40

Piccalilli - I'd try chocolate - should have baby dancing around in no time!

Kiwifruit · 08/07/2005 13:51

Picallili - I had that a couple of weeks ago. It lasted about 5 days, and in the end I went to the labour ward to get monitored. All was fine, and Champ hasn't stopped wriggling since. Try cold water or chocolate. Or coffee? The baby may just be lying in a different position so you can't feel it as much. Hope you feel something soon - if you don't, I would call the midwife and have a chat to her. Good luck!!

Paddysmum · 08/07/2005 14:22

Oh,Picallili - please try not worry and get upset. I know how easy it is to say that but I go through exactly the same thing quite often - sometimes Paddy (bump's nickname) is bouncing around all day and night like yesterday wheras today I have hardly felt a thing. I know how worrying it can be and have been close to tears myself over lack of movement. When are you due Picallili? I am due in 10 weeks and it's only in the last week or so that I have just about managed to accept thet Paddy usually has a couple of quieter days when he has been bouncing for England! I read though that just like us babies have up days and down days and I guess that's true. I also think that Paddy is quieter when I am really tired (like today). Just that us mums to be want the baby to be kicking constantly because it's so reassuring. I really understand where you are coming from and I hope everything is okay.

Piccalilli · 08/07/2005 14:58

Thanks everyone - I know it's silly to panic, I'm just dying to get home and lie down as that normally stimulates a few kicks. I've tried coffee and a small bar of chocolate but I'm reluctant to eat more as I'm the size of a house already.

I'm 29 weeks today Paddysmum - and I have noticed too that junior's a lot quieter when I'm tired and a bit down, but that's exactly when I need the reassurance of an active baby.

Redhelen · 08/07/2005 15:07

oh Piccalilli

Looks like babies are having a quiet day today.I think our babies are already developing attitude and giving us a scare! Can you get home a little earlier? Take it easy.

moschops · 08/07/2005 15:17

i've just ordered over a hundred pounds worth of stuff off Mothercare!!! can't believe it but at least i can rest assured i've nearly bought everything i need now..............dp is nagging me to get it done. i don't drive and he doesn't want to be rushing around at the last minute.

have had to order nearly everything online as town has NOTHING in the way of baby stuff. i can get lots of nice clothes except i don't know what i'm having and no where stocks neutral stuff!

my baby is having a quiet day too. my pelvis is definitely moving as i'm starting to feel a bit saddle sore. am so fed up of being stuck at home on my own..........and have been messed about so much as far as maternity allowance is concerned that it is looking more and more likely i won't get any benefits so money is going to be very tight around here

andif · 08/07/2005 15:41

Have just finished first coat of paint on baby room! Finally feel like I'm getting ready for this! Can't believe how long it took me though, it's such a tiny room I thought it would be a doddle. Finding it v frustrating that simple tasks take so long now - definitely feeling like a whale. Grew lots last weekend, and baby now much more active - I had had a couple of really quiet weeks and was getting worried, but now it won't stop moving - space must be getting tight!
Never thought I would say this, but getting sick of people giving me maternity clothes - far more extensive wardrobe now than my normal stuff. Don't feel I can say no without feeling ungrateful, so baby room full of carrier bags to be returned when I've had it!
Friend due in couple of weeks went into labour while away with sister. Baby breech so they said would have to do section, but said would have to send her back to Kingston in ambulance to do it, as no funds to treat people from another trust!!! Can you believe it?!! What is the NHS coming to? Now getting worried about hols to Cornwall - 5 hours in an ambulance wouldn't be much fun!
KF, I really sympathise with your pg brain - mine is the same. Forgot to go into school to help in ds2's class this week, and said I'd go today instead, and have forgotten again!! He'll be livid!
Sorry to have wittered on so much!!

franch · 08/07/2005 17:35

Just noticed the August gang are only on thread 4 ... shall we be cheeky and start thread 10?

LadyLazarus · 08/07/2005 20:17

How odd that a few others are saying their baby has been quieter today, as I was worrying about the exact same thing! She was bouncing around all day yesterday, and things seem much quieter today (although I can still feel it really, just not as energetic as yesterday!). Maybe it was the tension of us seeing all that horror on the news yesterday, it's tired the little ones out! Have just had an ice lolly to try to get her to move around a bit and it's seemed to have worked!

Franch - re: the August crowd, perhaps their threads are just REALLY long?!!

Moschops - what have you been buying in Mothercare? I spent about sixty quid in there last week, but I still feel like I've so much left to get!

PS does anyone know if you intend to breastfeed, how soon can you express milk? and if so, why? I have heard all sorts of things, a couple of sources said it's best not to express at all until the baby is 6 weeks old. Do I need to buy the pump now, or wait til later on? Plus, are manual pumps better / worse than automatic ones? Thanks

fairycakes · 08/07/2005 20:23

sorry, just saw this thread i was on september thread last year....hasnt time flown, still feels like yesterday!

ladylazarus, it is best to leave expressing til breast feeding is well established, around 6 weeks. im not too sure of the reasons, but it would be very uncomfortable and painful anyway i think to do it before then, you need to crack the breastfeeding first!

i used the avent hand pump was tricky at first, but keep trying and you get there in the end!

Also just noticed a few of your babies have been quiet lately, this happened to me loads of times and the only advice i can offer you is keep your eye on it, if you think you hvant felt much, make an effort to write down every time you do feel something - if you dont feel anything for 12 hours ring your maternity ward or midwife. you must get checked out as such horrible things can happen. they wont think you are being silly at all and it is far better to be safe than sorry.
