Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

STM - glad your okay, thought it was unusual not to hear from you. I can't post at my work either so have to just catch up at night.

zubb · 06/07/2005 22:12

I must be the exception to the Janet Balaskas rule then Franch - with ds1 I went into hospital as my waters had broken (phoned them first and they said to go in) and they found I was 4 cm dilated - hadn't felt anything and in fact only had very few contractions and nothing regular before I got to 10cm and was rushed down to the delivery suite! With ds2 it was pretty similar - I seem to have silent labours, and haven't had regular contractions with either of them so not really expecting any with this one.
Ds1 was a couple of hours labour, and ds2 was just over an hour and a half but I don't want to frighten anyone - I am unusual in the way they go.

PiccadillyCircus · 06/07/2005 22:22

In my case i didn't have to wonder about when to go into hospital as I was there already - had been in since the Monday due to the high blood pressure/eventually decided to be pre-eclampsia when my waters broke on the Friday morning.

I had niggles for about 12 hours, then contractions started properly; 2hours later I was 3cm. 4 hours later fully dilated and 2 hours later I had a baby (with the help of some forceps).

LadyLazarus · 07/07/2005 07:27

RedHelen - I have been watching that 'Baby House' programme in the afternoons. It's a bit irritating, but strangely compelling! I will have to watch today's to see what happened to that girl who went into labour yesterday!

Paddysmum · 07/07/2005 11:40

I too thought Perineal Massage was just rubbing a bit of oil on "that area" but reading the link it sounds a bit scary! STM - I am using my computer in work too so have to be a bit sneaky . Any September ladies have major pregnancy amnesia like me? Also has anyone been to NCT ante-natal classes? If so, any good?

Kiwifruit · 07/07/2005 12:01

Hope everyone in London is OK - have a nasty feeling that I just missed one of the explosions in Edgeware Rd.

What a crazy world we're living in.

jessysmummy · 07/07/2005 12:39

Yes, hope all you ladiies in London are ok. Makes me wonder what kind of world we're bringing these little bundles into
Perineal massage - yes, I tried it last time and good job because DD came out very quickly (2 pushes) in the end and if I hadn't been "marinating my lettuce leaves" as DH calls it think I may have had more than the 2 tiny stitches I needed.
Like zubb - I started dilated without any feeling at all. I was 3cm when I went in for my post-date appointment and made it to 7cm (when DD got a bit stuck) without any pain to speak of. First timers - Think if you want to go in to the delivery suite - GO IN. The worst that could happen is that they send you away again or you end up sitting waiting for ages but at least you'll be in the right place when things progress instead of sitting at home worrying whether you should go in or not.

LadyLazarus · 07/07/2005 12:47

OK here, hope everyone else in London is too. Kiwifruit - glad you're ok, it's all rather worrying isn't it. Will you be able to get home from work tonight? Feel sorry for those poor women who have gone into labour today!

Redhelen · 07/07/2005 12:49

Keep safe London People - the images on the tv are heart breaking. I was feeling so happy about the Olympics yesterday - now I fear an uprising of racial disharmony - lets hope not.

It's cool and chilly here today - it's greattttt!!

My local NCT person - has not returned the 5 answerphone messages I've left for her - so have been unable to book a course - which is a shame as they sound good.

RedZuleika · 07/07/2005 12:58

Quite. My husband's been rather closer to the Moorgate and Liverpool Street blasts than one would like. He's stuck in a cafe at the moment. Not sure how he's going to get back.

I'm not a fan of T Blair, but sometimes I do really feel sorry for him: scarcely has he a moment to enjoy the Olympic success than something like this happens.

PiccadillyCircus · 07/07/2005 13:11

I'm in London at the moment .

I work in Baker Street and was here at 8am so missed the explosions but I live in Bedfordshire and hope I can get home. Train out of Kings Cross obviously not going to happen but website says there are trains from Finsbury Park - just need to get there.

So glad that DH is working from home today otherwise I would have been worried about Benjamin being picked up from nursery. But all will be OK there.

Am feeling really emotional at the moment - I just want to be at home and feeling all right .

RedZuleika · 07/07/2005 13:22

PC: There's a limited Thameslink service, stopping all stations. Only two per hour, I think, so maybe one to Bedford, one to Luton. So, if nothing else, you might be able to get to Bedford (don't know where in Bedfordshire you are).

I can't imagine any journey is going to be pleasant though.

jessysmummy · 07/07/2005 13:23

Take care PC and hope DH gets home ok RZ and anyone else stuck in London x

Kiwifruit · 07/07/2005 13:33

Pleased I wore my trainers to work today, as think I'm going to have a long walk home tonight (about 2 hours in my current state!). DH works in Surrey, so not sure how he is going to get home - think his brother might pick him up. Our house is full tonight - 2 of DH's friends who work in the city and commute from Suffolk don't think their trains will be running from Liverpool St, so have asked if they can stay.

Not getting ANY work done at all today!

PiccadillyCircus · 07/07/2005 13:35

For a vaguely random reason my car is at Hatfield at another of my firm's offices - it was going to be our summer party tonight and I was going to get a coach back after it and then drive home.

So I need to get to Hatfield.

Am going to stay here for a while. But work is not the first thing on my mind.

PiccadillyCircus · 07/07/2005 13:36

On a more baby type front, this baby is being VERY wriggly as usual

Kiwifruit · 07/07/2005 14:09

Mine too PC - am getting lots of very strong kicks right now (might be protesting against the tight waistband on my trousers today ).

Boompi · 07/07/2005 14:24

Am stuck at work too - just grateful everyone i know is ok. Also relieved I caught train today and not tube as would have used central line through Liverpool street.

Glad all other MN london folk ok.

andif · 07/07/2005 14:55

Glad to hear everyone in London OK - safe thoughts for getting home tonight. Luckily DH at home today as ds1's sports day (lovely weather ), but hoping he will avoid going in tomorrow as feeling a bit neurotic!

mummyhill · 07/07/2005 15:41

Glad to see so many London posts. Good luck in getting home safe and sound.

DH phoned and banned me from going into B'ham city centre to collect the crib we will go in together at the weekend when things have calmed down a little. Hated to tell him that as soon as i heard the news i decided not to go in anyway. CIty Center is on high allert and all transport going into the central area is being stoped and searched. DD would of found this really exciting but in my present hormonal state i don't think i would of coped with it so well. Am trying to work out if there is much of a threat other major cities or if it is a one off attack? People keep on asking why security was not better in London due to the G8, why would it need to be when all the world leaders are up in Scotland? Surely the main focus of the security network would be focused on Edinburgh.

ych · 07/07/2005 17:44

Thinking of all the London girls, hope you and your families all get home safely. Can't believe what has happened. I thought the same as you Mummyhill, if anything, thought something might happen up here in Edinburgh or Gleneagles.

My baby has been going mad since last night. Started when I was watching James Brown on tv at the Live8 Edinburgh concert! (was that on tv in England?). Kicks are getting really strong and whole tummy wobbles and goes out of shape!

mummyhill · 07/07/2005 18:14

Can you see outlines of hands/feet/knees and elbows yet? That is quite weird but reasuring.

ych · 07/07/2005 19:02

I can make out feet & elbows, I think, which is very strange. Almost alien like!! But as you say, it's reasuring. Just starting to sink in that I'm going to have a little bundle in September!

mummyhill · 07/07/2005 19:44

Sat down and though omg 8 weeks to get the house straight, DD into a more stable routine and then all hell will break loose in the hill household!!!!!!

PiccadillyCircus · 07/07/2005 20:50

Got home fine - involved walking from Baker Street to Finsbury Park, then waiting an hour for a train, then driving back here but a lot better than I imagined (only 3.5 hours - although it's normally 1.25).

DH soaked my feet in a bowl of warm water - very nice and then rubbed cream into them .

And it was lovely to see DS while he was still awake
