woowa, I'm going for it (SF jab) this afternoon, you have spurred me on, good luck with yours! Thanks to others for their reassurances.

fiziwizzle my is DP also quite happy to sit around watching me huff and puff with the broom and mop, even my DD has been more help and that's saying something. I have now decided to down tools, it's just not ok to carry on as before at this stage. I have told him he's doing the lion's share of the housework from now on or he has to find a cleaner.

PS internet shopping for groceries is defintely the way forward, DO LESS EVERYONE!

threeplusone · 26/11/2009 11:07

DH will tidy up the boys train tracks and cars and trains just before bath and bed which is a help..
Once the boys are in bed and I have done the kitchen I have started to get on the sofa and tell DH and DD what needs doing.. re washing needs to go on.. a load needs to come back up etc.. As our washing machine and tumbler are in the cellar.. sometimes it really hurts carrying it up and down 2 flights of stairs, as washing for 5 people can be quite heavy.
I still do all the cleaning though.. it wouldnt occur to DD or DH that things have to be scrubbed.. they class housework as running the hoover over..lol.

Enough whining from me...

Good luck those going for the SF jab.. I still have a lump at the injection site and it is still a little red but getting better everyday..

Busymummy22 · 26/11/2009 11:18

Hi ladies,

woowa Hope this afternoon goes ok. Well done on making a decision, it's not easy.

pyjamababe I made my dh help me with the step ladder so I could get into the loft 3 days ago lol I'm not doing that again until after the baby comes. I did have a couple of hairy moments! But in my defence, I needed to organise putting all the newborn things nearer the loft exit so he could find it after Xmas e.g. infant car seat, moses basket.

From now on, I am reburying my head in the sand until after Christmas.

How long does everyone have to go at work (if you are working)? I am finishing on Xmas eve when I will be 34 + 2. Will take a week annual leave and start my mat leave at 36 ish weeks. I only work p/t so it works out quite nicely.

And have we got names yet? We have a girl's name and some of a boy's name.

Have a nice day everyone!

woowa · 26/11/2009 14:35

Cake. . WHY do all the pregnancy books say not to snack on cake and biscuits when that's clearly what we need most???!!!

Maybe i should buy some cereal just to snack on instead. Hadn't thought of that. Plus the milk would help with the indigestion. NOW i know why pregnant women have a miserable time. Nothing like feeling like you've just drunk a pint of vinegar and thrown it back up. [sick face]

Have names for boy and girl, although DH is SO convinced it's a boy that i don't think he really cares about the girl's name! I've said a thousand times, "are you sure you like it because it might actually need that name, and I'm not having this conversation in the hospital and going back to the drawing board." Falls on deaf ears. He replies "It IS a boy." Sigh. I know he'll be just as delighted with a girl, but he can't believe he could produce one!!! He wants a little rugby player, you see .

Since it's 2.30 i suppose I'd better do something...now, where's the cake gone?

x

westlondongirl · 26/11/2009 17:19

Went and got my blood pressure checked and was fine. So no idea why I now have the ankles of a dinner lady! While there the doctor said I should have been advised not to have sex because of the placenta previa. I told her the midwife had informed me that it was ok. Now i'm totally confused. She also said I should have been seen by a consultant about it which was never recommended before. I do find that there is so much conflicting information given at my hospital. Just hope the birth wont be a total shambles! Has anyone else with low lying placenta been told to avoid sex? [bluch]

westlondongirl · 26/11/2009 17:20

oops meant !

comeonbishbosh · 26/11/2009 17:57

Hello everyone, just discovered this thread. I'm due with my first 7th Feb.

Keeping on with work but not having much energy left for all the other things and weekends keep getting crowded out with family stuff and visits from friends. Which is lovely and generally cheers me up but means there's not much time or energy to even keep on top of the washing let alone the baby to come stuff. A bit teary combined with grumpy at times.

So, here's my list of things still to do in the hope that it might encouage those who are being similarly tardy!

  • still in denial about moving my stuff out of the room that will be the nursary.
  • fed up with DH pushing on with range of building work which requires organisation.
  • trying to get a will sorted.
  • no pushchair or car seat yet.
  • we have bought a few pitful baby things from an nct sale which are pushed reproachfully to one side in the sitting room. To be fair, we have a number of bits and bobs promised.
  • no labour bag packed, though hoping for a home birth and have at least booked that with my midwife.
  • list of possible names still gathering dust, I think we've got about 8 of each, more girls than boys.
  • haven't looked round any nurseries yet. I'm in denial about that too. It's probably too late already for nov next year.
  • and don't talk to me about Christmas!

Oh dear all that sounds very negative! but am looking forward to the end of pregnancy and am starting to brave reading up on all the labour stuff. Have joined an aerobics for pregnant women class which is fun and meeting other mums to be also makes it a bit more real. And actually feeling a bit better than I did in the 2nd trimester.

Hi newbies - gosh what a lot have joined these past couple of weeks!! Nikki87 I'm due with my first on the same day as you - am "dahn saaaahf" though!

Spent the day with my friend and her two little cherubs today (ds nearly 3yrs and dd 4 months) they are absolutely the most lovely kids and couldn't have behaved more impeccably - was still a hell of a reality check though! Just getting 2 of them in and out of the car... phew! By nature I am a LOT less organised than my friend too - how am I going to cope?!? Honestly, I take my hat off to those of you who are Mums already!!

I'm really lucky with my DH - he does loads of stuff around the house - pretty much all I have to do at the moment is cook (doesn't stop me wishing he would do that too mind! I get all resentful about it sometimes too - how terribly ungrateful!)

Names - DH never seems to want to talk about names - even when I manage to kick off the subject, he doesn't seem to be able to cope with a very lengthy discussion - we're really struggling to agree on ones we like too. Poor thing is probably going to end up being called "Baby" until he/she goes to school at this rate!!

Hope everyone with lurgies are on the mend! xx

TheOldestCat · 26/11/2009 23:10

westlondongirl I also have a low-lying placenta and haven't been told to avoid anything. My midwife said that if they'd had major concerns at the scan (ie the placenta was covering the cervix completely, rather than just being low-lying ie bordering the cervix or being nearby) , the hospital would have advised me what to do - and what not to do!

So I would chat to your midwife again just to clarify things.

And panic not, it's more than likely that it will have 'moved' by your next scan. Mine's at 34 weeks; when's yours?

Fluffycoo you'll cope. You don't know how you will, but you do

westlondongirl · 27/11/2009 03:36

TheOldestCat my scan is at 32 weeks so hopefully it will have moved up by then. I will ask the consultant when I see her who I'm supposed to listen to?! I must say i'm more inclined to listen to the experienced midwife I originally spoke to rather than the doctor who looked about 12 but had mastered the art of the patronising tone! Anyway my partner is only home two days a week so it's not like we are swinging from the chandeliers!

It's 3.30am and I cannot sleep. Going to try reading a book for a bit. Can't believe my baby will be here in 3 months [slightly freaked out emoticon]

mawbroon · 27/11/2009 08:51

Westlondongirl - nothing was mentioned to me about not having sex with a low placenta. Saying that, the sonographer would not have given advice like that, and I've seen the midwife only once since then.

I am going for another scan at 36 weeks, and I don't imagine I will see the consultant until after that scan. I am happy with that. i don't see the point in seeing a consultant about it when there is still a long time to go and things could change.

I have done nothing in preparing for this baby. I mean nothing. I will venture up the loft in late January some time and rake out some clothes and the car seat. The baby will sleep in bed with me for a long time, so I will find the waterproof sheet that I know is hiding in a cupboard somewhere and put that on the bed. Oh, I tell a lie. I bought some Lansinoh half price a couple of months back, so I have done some preparation.

We are on our second day of "normal" here. We are still not all 100% but dh is back at work, ds is at nursery, nobody has a temperature, nobody is being sick. Yippeeee. Hopefully that's the end of it all. There can't be any more bugs out there for us to catch!!

woowa · 27/11/2009 15:05

So I had the swine flu jab this morning. Am not dead. Yet...

Consultants. Am going to have a fight with mine over low-dependency birth. Raised it at 28 week check. She said, well, we'll see how your blood pressure is in the next couple of months. Don't they do that with everyone anyway??!! My BP is normal as anything at the moment. Wish I could just see MWs all the time. Much less scary.

Think I'm going to bite the bullet and spend £400 on nappies now. If anyone has anything against flexitots...speak now!

pyjamababe · 27/11/2009 18:11

It's the weekend - hooray!!

mawbroon I too have done absolutely nothing. Zip. Am a first-timer too so no magic loft...

Happy Friday all x

jardins · 27/11/2009 20:12

Hello everybody! Woowa I've just had my jab this evening too - here in France pregnant ladies are getting a single dose of Panenza which is adjuvant free. It wasn't the most pleasant of experiences (even though everybody I spoke to was kind) as the system here is that you have to be vaccinated in a centre: mine is 28 kms away from home. When I arrived this evening I was told I would have to queue for 3-4 hours. Fortunately I got to jump the many queues (registering, personal interview, jab, etc) which meant I was in and out in an hour. Interestingly everybody I spoke to felt the same ambivalence as myself concerning the jab. Oh well. Now I have to think about my children: do I or don't I?

Have a lovely weekend everybody.

bethylou · 27/11/2009 21:09

I would like to add myself to the 'done nothing' list! We have at least painted the new bedroom for DS1 but it has no curtains and is full of junk again now. We are decorating the spare room next week as well so there is stuff everywhere - just hope no-one comes to our house and needs to go upstairs! I intend to confront the thought of having another baby in January, but am starting to do Christmas shopping online so that I don't have to face the shops too much when I'm even bigger.

Saw the consultant today (who described me as a 'complicated lady', much to DH's amusement )and had another scan. The scan measurements suggest that the baby is already over 3 pounds (and I'm 28 weeks +2) so at this rate the baby could be over 9lbs at birth! (I'm 5'6" and size 12 so think this is quite big but then DH is 6'2").

Having said that, there are currently a possible 4 reasons why they want me to have a c section (some of which may sort themselves out I hope - including the fact that the baby is breech at the mo). The idea of a c section came as a bit of a surprise to me and I think I have to prepare for this and then a natural birth would be a lovely surprise. Really keen to 'do better' (being rather a perfectionist, even in birth!) than I managed last time when I had to have an assisted birth right at the end. I also don't want to have to stay in hospital for three days and would be asking for a private room to try and get some sleep. Not driving for 6 weeks from a small village out of town could be fun too.. Plans to make me thinks...

Mawbroom - so pleased to hear your family are finally fit and well (well, getting there). We;ve only been ill for two weeks, but I feel your pain!
Have a good weekend one and all.

threeplusone · 28/11/2009 09:07

Hi all.. glad everyone seems to be well at the mo..
On the baby front.. I am shocked with myself as how organised I am..
I am going to order the cot this week I think, to ensure I get one.. we will be getting an army one.. which are all brand new saves us some money.
Starting to get excited now, about our new arrival.. TBH I think I have been getting sorted as I have been feeling that it is all happening to someone else I think I have been in denial that I am going to have 4 children very soon...
We are going to have to go and sort out the spare room this weekend and put all the baby things away as my inlaws are coming next week.. I am sure they dont want to be sleeping with a pram on there bed, and clothes, blankets, nappies, sterliser..

DH is going to sort the loft out this weekend too, I have promised the kids that the christmas decs can go up this weeekend.. Just hope DS2 leaves the tree alone...

Anyway off to get ready taking the children to see father christmas this afternoon.

Take care alll and have a good weekend

Nikki87 · 28/11/2009 09:25

FluffyCoo - have u got most of your stuff ready for the new arrival? I'm so behind at getting things ready, moved 3months ago, and still not finished unpacking, lol! think I'm going to have to get most of my stuff in the Jan sales, that will be a fun experience with bump
Hope everyone is ok
xx

FluffyCoo · 28/11/2009 11:12

Hello everyone, hope it's lovely weekends all round!

To be honest Nikki87 I have no idea how I'm doing for baby stuff! I've been buying things at random and stashing them at my Mums (my house is in total disarray due to decorating - I too moved house recently!)so I'm not sure what i've got left to buy! I struggled to find nice neutral coloured sleep suits to start with, then suddenly there were loads everywhere so I think I have about 5000 of those but not much else! I think i'll spend some time over at Mum's this afternoon and try to get some sort of list together! All the big things are taken care of though - MIL is splitting the cost of the pram with us so we'll be shopping for that when she visits at Xmas time, my parents are buying us a cot in the Jan sales (how "thrifty" of them ). I don't envy you having to trek round the shops in Jan - I went Xmas shopping yesterday and was wrecked within about an hour! Where has my shopping stamina gone?!

Right, more shopping to do (although I think i'll stick to Amazon today!)Love to all xxx

woowa · 28/11/2009 15:37

the laptop on my lap just MOVED with the force of the baby kicking me! Isn't it amazing the strength they have in them?!!

Went to my very first NCT nearly new sale this morning. Though we have everything now (except pushchair which i chose in JULY! DH hasn't let me buy it til December - only 2 days to go!) I wanted to see what sort of things were on offer, and what sort of quality and that, so i can decide whether it's worth going once sproglet arrives. It was TERRIFYING!!! I suddenly realised I was about to turn into a mummy! Which is a lovely thing to be, but SUCH a different life!! eek! Also, Can i recommend, if you go to a sale, not taking children, buggies or DH/DPs since they all take up too much space. I bought a snowsuit for £2 and left after 10 minutes!! Once I know whether I'm buying cute dresses or boy clothes i think the sales will be more useful, so I think I recommend!

BTW - for all those who feel like I'm too organised, almost everything we have is a cast off from cousins/friends which has made my life MUCH easier. Without that i'd still be in mothercare yelling "WHAT DO I NEED TO BUY??"

My arm aches from swine flu jab, which meant i couldn't sleep on my left last night. Which basically meant i couldn't sleep! Surprising side-effect. jardins i had the oppsoite experience i was in and out in about 20 seconds - they pulled down the shoulder of my tshirt and stuck me before I even knew what was going on. Decided not to ask which type of jab it was because if I had I would now be googling side effects of both and panicking that I'd had the one pregnant people aren't supposed to have, if you believe the hype.

Glad all seems well with you all. x

threeplusone · 28/11/2009 17:54

Took the children to the xmas fair... DS2 went on a horse ride.. his little face was a picture he loved it.
When we took the boys to see santa.. DS2 was not impressed he took one look and tried to leg it from the room.. bless him.. he take the chocolate from him though.. boy after my own heart.
Off to do bedtime and get the decs from the loft.. If DH can get to them as the few boxes that need unpacking.. sorting from the move in sept.. have all been dumped up there....
Luckily it is a normal staircase up to the loft so I can go up and help him
Enjoy your evening ladies.xx

AngelaCarleen · 28/11/2009 21:22

We (and by that I mean DH and two of his lovely friends) have finally moved the piano out of the baby's room so we can get in and empty the cupboard and start putting the room together. I built up the moses basket stand today just so we could have something done .

I really can't wait to finish work now, I only have 9 and a half shifts left, woohoo! I am soooo fed up of people looking funny at me when I say I'm not going to push beds etc. round the ward. Work is not worth crippling myself for and it really hurts .

I'm getting loads of massive kicks, usually at half five in the morning which is handy as that is just about the time that I get too uncomfortable to continue laying there .

MarieKL · 29/11/2009 23:00

Hi everyone,

I've just found this thread. We're expecting our first on 11th February.

Just starting to get really excited as it finally feels like its not that long away, now winter is definitely here and baby will be here before the Spring!

Just sorting out my maternity cover at work - Is anyone else feeling odd about handing over their job to someone else for a while? I know I probably won't care once baby's here but I really do love my job, so getting use to the idea that someone else may be doing it is a strange experience.

Good luck to all those with shopping/organizing still to do. I think we're half way there, but need to focus on Christmas for a while.

Hope you all have a good week
