Sorry Stoofadoof, I can't find it now either, but Flyingcloud mentioned in on p29 here so at least I know I didn't imagine it

I don't envy you having builders in, I know they say many a baby has been born into a building site and they don't care but it must be pretty bloody stressful for the grownups. Fingers crossed your LO's stay where they are til the job's done.

flyingcloud · 12/01/2010 09:52

Here is the thread

It hasn't been updated since Saturday, so no idea what her status is.

watercress · 12/01/2010 10:14

My goodness, what a lot of posts!

Mawbroon, so sorry to hear you need surgery but I guess it's the correct course of action otherwise they wouldn't be doing it. You sound so calm about it - what an example to us all.

Whoever was saying about getting things done with a baby around, I didn't attempt things like the hairdresser with DD1 in tow, but instead would leave her with DH for an hour or so at the weekend or in the evening and go off. This also made it more of a treat for me! Lots of my mum chums would take the LO with them in the pram and hope they'd sleep, but DD was an appalling daytime sleeper so I could never rely on that!

As for worrying about the massive change, even though this is number 2 for me, I'm still bricking it about how I'm going to cope with a baby and a toddler (she and I had a very bad tempered day the other day so I feel your pain Clappedout). When DD was born I was simply in shock for the first few weeks (probably because of the traumatic birth) and was very functional, and didn't feel at all maternal or in love with her (though I felt protective). But within a few weeks, it all kicked in and I fell completely in love and started caring for her properly (not that I was neglecting her beforehand) with all of my heart as well as my head. I think what I'm trying to say is that it can take a while and that's OK.

Oh god, do I sound like a loon?

Gosh VERY busy! Clearly the Mat leave has kicked in for a lot of people - I still have 3 and a half weeks to go... . Still, twas my own ridiculous idea to work till the last minute and it's not like i'm incapable...!! Looking forward to Thursdays all-day marathon NCT class for a day off!

Thanks for all the re-assurances that I'm not going mental for having the wobbles about being a Mum, for all the hard work I'm sure it will be brilliant though - just such a massive change!! Watercress you make perfect sense to me (although that's not saying much!), besides, I think being a loon is the law for us at the moment anyway eh?

DH and I have still to decide on names too - we had some picked, but now I've gone off them all! He won't discuss it until the decorating is finished - says he isn't able to think about both things at once and wants to get finished so he can concentrate on baby(extending my sympathies to westlondongirl, I too am living in a plaster-dust coated building site) bless his lack of multi-tasking ability!

Mawbroon, what a nightmare! I do hope the surgery goes well and that you are well on the mend before your LO arrives!

fiziwizzle · 12/01/2010 12:42

Good afternoon everyone (I was just about to type good morning as I've only been out of bed for a couple of hours ). LOTS of posts now that many of us are on ML (mind you I spent more time on MN when I was 'working', I think!).

I am really impressed and a bit jealous that you all seem so prepared. I am so tired (and don't have the excuse of a toddler to run around after) and am just spending my time sleeping, reading and on the net; when I know that I should be washing the baby clothes, stocking the freezer, packing hospital bag etc. I just can't seem to find the motivation. Am not usually such a lazy person .

mawbroon · 12/01/2010 13:24

Oh FFS bloody health in pregnancy grant. I got my letter through today saying I am not eligible as I have not yet reached 25weeks. So what the fuck is the enormous growth in my stomach then.

They will "look into it" because their system says I am not due til 27/7/2010. Their scanner will have misread the 2 for a 7. Hey, it would be good if he wasn't born til july. Could get this ankle on the mend by then

And don't get me going on the bloody car insurance company......

westlondongirl · 12/01/2010 13:28

Thanks binzle & Fluffycoo - good to know i'm not alone in building hell! Finally lost it with my landlord after he failed to do the one thing i asked him to do (to authorise me to speak to the insurance company). Told him I will now only deal with the managing agent as i am sick of doing his job for him . By the time I got to the hospital this morning my blood pressure was the highest it's ever been...I wonder why

I cannot sleep at all at the moment. I average about 3 hours a night and i'm exhausted. I really feel for those of you who already have other children to deal with, It must be very stressful.

hannahsaunt · 12/01/2010 13:48

Still working too (35 wks) and due to go on until 37.5 wks but seriously considering stopping earlier.

Am I the only one who hasn't done the baby clothes buying/washing/sorting, bag packing, freezer stocking thing yet? Getting very slack in my old age ...

mawbroon · 12/01/2010 13:50

I've done nothing either hannhsaunt. Had planned to potter away at it all after New Year. No going up the loft for me now though! DH will have to do it.

I am beginning to get a bit nervous about the surgery on thursday, and having the heebie jeebies that it might all go wrong and they have to deliver the baby

binzle · 12/01/2010 14:28

You're not the only one hannahsaunt I haven't done any of the many things needed, the only thing I have managed is washing the baby clothes and that is to try and make it all real that I will actually have a baby in approx a month (still not working though, in denial me thinks).

I keep hoping I will go into nesting zone next week so I will actually stop watching 60 minute makeover which eating chocolate and get off my arse........

Hope everything is OK Becks130.

Mawbroon so sorry to hear that you need surgery hopefully everything will go well for you fingers crossed.

Seen the MW this morning BP still up a bit for me and a trace of protein, and swelling in ankiles legs fingers. Have to go back on Friday for another sample and BP to be taken again, but if I feel ill or get headaches then have to phone then go up to the hospital to be checked over.. MW has asked me to rest as much as possible.. I have bit the bullet and actually asked for help from theneighbours re taking and picking DS1 up from the bus stop so that I donth ave to walk up the hill in the snow with 2.6yr old in tow that doesnt want to go in the smae direction as me. I also slipped today coming out of creche, and boiy have I hurt my back and pubic bone I think.. (fanny bone)
I have been in agony since.. walking and even getting up and down from the loo is killoing me hopefully just streched the muscles trying to keep ,myself upright.

hannahsaunt · 12/01/2010 15:20

Hoorah!

Shiregirl - that sounds like fun!

Nervous at only having 2 weeks mat leave before due date; other 3 were all 6 days early and I think I may need more time to do nothing all these things like clothes and bags.

GuernseyFrench · 12/01/2010 16:14

I'm still working and I'm due to stop at the end of January, my induction is booked for the 1st week of February. My official ML should have started on 15th Feb and EDD is 16th Feb.

I had a growth scan yesterday and DS weight is 6lb 9oz (or 3kg). It was my birth weight at full term! I wonder how much bigger he's going to grow! Next appointment with MW is next week and obstetrician in 2 weeks . But I have to say that I have never had soo many medical appointments in my life than during the last 8 months.

Don't worry if you haven't prepare anything, I have but only because it keeps my mind busy and after a day at work, preparing for his arrival tired me and I found that I sleep better!

GuernseyFrench · 12/01/2010 16:18

Forgot to ask, is there a way to help the baby to engage? It's head down and I want to do anything to help the induction!!!

Cheers for your help

threeplusone · 12/01/2010 16:28

guernseyfrench.. tbh i think that the babies only engage when they are ready too.. Also my ds1 engaged during delivery!!.. Good luck hun xx

GuernseyFrench · 12/01/2010 16:49

threeplusone I thought it might be the case. Nevermind, I'll wait and see...

InmaculadaConcepcion · 12/01/2010 17:29

Hi everyone, happy Tuesday and all that

Woowa sorry not to say an individual thanks for your welcome in the last post, cheers for that!
threeplusone bad luck with the slip and hurting yourself, hope it'll ease up soon.

I had an ante-natal class today - think I understood about a tenth of what the MW was telling us! I'm learning lots of useful Spanish words for bits of the female anatomy, that's for sure! Luckily, DH was with me and his Spanish is better than mine, so he could fill in many of the gaps.

I then spent a couple of hours traipsing around the offices of various officials while I tried to sort out leave from work. Here in Spain, it's common practice to be signed off by your doctor when you're pg, then your actual maternity leave (four months paid in full by social security) doesn't kick in until the day you give birth. My boss wanted me to go one better and get signed off for being "at risk" at work - added benefits would be 100 per cent of salary for me (70 per cent on normal sick leave) and financial help for him.

Felt a bit of a fraud 'cos I've generally felt really well while pg and I'm a teacher, which isn't exactly a risky occupation, but the doctor said the fact that I have to stand for several hours at a time is enough to qualify me as "at risk", so we should be quids in (or euros in).

Lots of bloody forms to fill in, though - I s'pose it's a small price to pay.

Roll on the obstetrician's appointment tomorrow (they deal with the routine checks etc. here).

Time to waggle my pelvis around, now.

AbsB · 12/01/2010 17:31

Hi everyone,
Everyone is posting loads!
I now have my office set up at home with one computer open for work and the other right next to it with Mumsnet and personal stuff!
This working from home thing is great! Thank God I persisted...

Finally saw my one to one MW this morning who is adamant that I have a hospital birth and not a home birth and doesn't do water births so trying to get my head around all the new ideas. Apparently because I've had surgeries on my cervix they cannot risk a home birth. A bit disappointed but oh well, the important thing is that the baby is born healthy and happy!

Mawbroon I really feel for you regarding your surgery but your first instinct not to google anything is the right one! They wouldn't put you through that if they thought there was a risk, no way! Good luck and remember (easily said I know) the more relaxed you are the better the outcome, so maybe time to treat it like labour and do some deep breaths! (all this is pure speculation on my part as have no idea what labour actually feels like, just got my antenatal class head on!)...

Does anyone else have a DP or DH that snores? Bloody Hell, I was ready to kill him this morning, can hardly sleep a wink because of thug in bump and now this! Plus he has a dreadful cold (again), he's had so many ailments and illnesses during my pregnancy. I shouldn't complain though as he is making dinner (again) and is super supportive, just felt like having a lack of sleep rant!

woowa · 12/01/2010 17:59

guernseyfrench I've never had so mnay appointments either. With scan 7 next week i'm starting to feel like this is an overmedicalised pregnancy, and wish i could be normal and have normal kidneys and never see a doc again. Gets a bit boring after a while!

woowa · 12/01/2010 18:08

AbsB - not a DH who snores, but i spent two hours awake last night because I couldn't breathe! in the end i had to sleep propped upright. Very odd. Then up at 5.45 for a meeting at 7. i've felt utterly pants today as a result, but had hot chocolate with marshmallows and whipped cream in M&S this afternoon to make me feel slightly better. Might be in bed before 8 though tonight! or 7? Sure that's allowed for PG people.

Fluffycoo - amazed at thought of one day NCT marathon - sounds totally exhausting! Is your DH/P going too? My DH was exhausted after 3 hour session at it (and he had assumed it would be about an hour long!). Looking forward to next one though as it's been a month since the last which is a bit of a gap in friendship building terms!

ems147 · 12/01/2010 18:15

AbsB oh my god the snoring!!!!!! as if i couldnt sleep as it was!! constantly having to switch from side to side through out the night!! then it starts!! i sometimes think im sleeping next to an animal! although i have to admit the snoring is only when he is on his back, on his side he rarely snores. maybe try asking him to sleep on his side. see if it helps?

AbsB · 12/01/2010 18:45

ems147 you are right about sleeping on his side, he only snores on his back! And I usually prod him really hard and say "YOU'RE SNORING, CAN YOU TURN OVER" in pissed off voice, and he says sorry, turns over onto his side and then turns back again! He's agreed to sleep in the spare room tonight, after warming up my bed first - aren't I awful?

I feel really bad about ranting but the not sleeping thing really puts me in a bad mood - What am I on about?? Just about to embark on a long journey with LO without any sleep, might as well get on with it!!

woowa early nights are now a blessing! And to think I used to go clubbing until six in the morning when I lived in Spain... what an idiot! All that precious sleep time! Ready for a big fire and in bed by 9 tonight for sure!

That maternity pillow is a god send. I love it!
