morning fluffy i know exactly how u feel re the size change, i feel like [apart from the bump and boobs] that i've lost weight... very wierd feeling. and whats it like to have a male midwife??

hope everyone else is good this morning

FluffyCoo · 04/12/2009 11:23

Thank god for that Nikki I thought I was going a bit nuts!! it's almost like my bunp is seperate from me, and if I could "take off" (!) the bump temporarily I would have a perfectly flat tummy and be able to fit into all of my "thin" clothes! I feel lighter on my feet, it's so odd!! perhaps our babies are just curled up in nice compact little bundles now and easing the pressure on everything?!

I'm loving the fact that I'm now with a male midwife - obviously I can't speak for all of them, but my one is lovely - he really takes time to thoroughly check everything and is brilliant when having a bit of an emotional meltdown (which is basically how I first met him! ). I find that he explains things better than any of the female midwives i've seen - tells me what he's doing and why, whether something is good or bad etc. Unusual career choice for a bloke though - maybe I'll pluck up the courage to ask him about it!

threeplusone · 04/12/2009 12:19

stoofadoof I am much more Jeans and a nice top kind of girl when going out.. but as Dh in the Army I have to get the dresses out a few times in the year. It is ok as all the ladies are in dresses.. I have been told I can wear tousers and a nice top or a cocktail dress as pg.. but tbh dont want to stand out anymore than I already will.. So the floor length dress is the one for tommorrow.

Must die my hair though as my natrural highlights as DD calls them to you and me the grey!! is not very becoming.. so will have to decide what coulour I want to go ....

sunnybump · 04/12/2009 14:42

Thanks for the messages of support, much needed during the last few days of emotional meltdown! Glad you got your practice changed Fluffycoo, you have to be comfy with the support you have around you.

Today has been officially (by me and DH) declared a no jobs day in our house. So far I have read some of my book, had breakfast and lunch and not a lot else. It feels very decadent and it's hard work stopping myself cleaning/unpacking/sorting/painting/trying to put up blinds and so on, but so very needed. Dh has set up the internet and is playing online - I really think it's his first day off in about 5 months between work and the house, phew.

Gaviscon is getting less disgusting with practice. I am attempting to master the art of getting it down as quickly as possible so it doesn't coat my mouth with it's goo quite so much [yuck emoticon]

I don't think I'm getting slimmer but the bump to bum ratio is looking much more appealing now. My bum looks almost tiny reasonably tidy compared to the basketball I have up front. Yet again had to get more bras as I was on the last hook and they all got too tight pretty much overnight. Got one of those support bands in mothercare too to see if it will help with back pain.

Dressing up sounds like great fun, enjoy your 'do'. We have a family wedding anniversary tomorrow night, I reckon I'll last about an hour before falling asleep in the car on the way home

Take care everyone

Clappedout · 04/12/2009 17:35

Hi all,

Have you tried Gaviscon mint flavoured tablets sunnybump? They are actually quite nice and much easier to swallow than the medicine, not sure you can get them on prescription though don't see why not. I woke my DP up at 3am the other night crunching them in bed!

Had an awful morning at the hospital. Routine check up, slightly high bp and small amount of protein in urine (had both in last pregnancy and managed ok) so very junior dr panicked and sent me to the ward for obs. After 2 hours of tests I then saw the most clueless consultant who did some more random tests. She'd got my notes all wrong, including thinking I'd had a previous termination when I haven't and said I needed to stay in for a 24hr urine sample and bp monitoring. I was completely hysterical at this point so the midwife sent me out for air. Luckily by the time I'd returned a far more sensible consultant appeared and let me go home. Where do they find these drs? So cross. It's my DD's 2nd birthday this weekend and I could see it all disappearing before my eyes because of some incompetent spaced out idiot making some half baked recommendations...grrr.

Glad to be home, no doubt the bp will return to normal once I have calmed down. Get me a doula!

chinook · 04/12/2009 19:50

Poor you clappedout sounds rather stressful. Glad you are home now though. Surely any consultant worth their salt would have worked out by now that it is not sensible to wind up a pregnant lady?!

Well I have just finished the first week of work in my maternity placement. I have really enjoyed the work but the 3 to 4 hours a day on the M25 have nearly finished me off. All credit to you ladies who have been working all this time, I don't know how you have managed it.

I too get comments about my 'small' bump although when measured at 28 weeks it was bang on for dates. Dd measured 2 cm small all the way through and she 'popped' out at 8lb8oz, which is hardly small.

Have you seen that there are now due in August and September threads? Makes us sound like real old timers. Won't be too long until we are switching to a post natal thread. Scary scary thought.

Hope everyone has a good weekend. Sounds like some of you have some lovely parties to go to. Personally I plan to put my feet up and do as little as possible.

bethylou · 04/12/2009 22:43

Clappedout that sounds hideous - I get so annoyed when the medics get an idea in their heads and just won't be reasoned with. I have mentioned the idea of a doula to DH as the consultant has already described me as a complicated lady (for which I read 'will want to keep you in for days after delivery for random monitoring'...) My way round it is to go in fully informed about things and the way that they are dealt with in different hospitals and then arguing til i get my way (can at least blame the hormones!)
Have had an evening to myself tonight as DS is with grandparents (ready so we can decorate again tomorrow) and DH has gone on works 'do' (partners not invited). It has been really weird but lovely to catch up with a friend!
Have a good weekend one and all.

MarieKL · 04/12/2009 22:53

I hope your DD's 2nd birthday party goes well clappedout Glad you found a more sensible consultant in the end. I hope everyone else with parties to go to this weekend enjoy them.

chinook a weekend of doing as little as possible sounds lovely. Wish I could do the same but we've offered to babysit for our friends 18 month twins, so they could spend some time together! Must be mad as just getting up and dressed and out the door on time exhausts me and has me sleeping on the train on the way into work!

was it much hassel changing drs fluffy? only since I've moved its a bit too far to be travelling to my old drs, when there is one 5mins from the house, plus altho my midwife is brilliant [if a little ditzy] the drs are bloody stupid, lol!
sunny do u take the gaviscon advance? thats what I'm on, much thicker, I find it like drinking fonant icing, blergh!
glad everyone is ok, and I hope you all have a good weekend

sunnybump · 05/12/2009 10:06

Morning
Nikki it is the advance gaviscon, it's super thick like single coat paint, ewwww. Thanks for the heads up Clappedout, I'm going to ask about the tablets in the chemist today... As for that hospital fiasco, I am so glad I haven't had to go near the hospital so far, fingers crossed it continues.

Shiregirl very best of luck with shopping, you are a braver woman than me. I am going into the little town centre of the teeny town where we live and I know that and Tesco will leave me floored!

What about spa days for Mum and MIL, you could send them together! www.buyagift.co.uk/Category/Id/511/Name/Pampering_Days

woowa · 05/12/2009 16:24

Pushchair arrived yesterday in parcel delivery!

Excitedly opened it up with DH to check it was all ok!

It's MISSING ITS FRONT WHEEL

So good thing we checked now!! Can't believe they managed to put a pushchair in a box with one wheel missing.

DH, who is much more reasonable called up mothercare to mention this small fact, and they are putting one in the post. Pushchair is fully assembled in sproglet's room, propped up on a cardboard box.

Nappies also arrived this week, nice reusable ones. Now starting to wonder if i've gone mad since I don't get round to doing laundry very often at the best of times. eek!

Can't believe i can now say "30 weeks" to anyone who asks - it seems to have gone by so FAST. I look at the pregnancy threads and remember the days gone by when I was worried about first and second trimester things, and now we're all SO close to giving birth and into the bump size/birth pain/what to dress it in worries!! EEK!

Nikki87 · 05/12/2009 16:28

you're more orginised than me woowa, iv not even picked a pram yet, theres too many, its so confusing!! bit silly or them to miss the wheel tho, lol!
and i know what you mean about the 30weeks thing, only 10 left.... wow.......

GuernseyFrench · 05/12/2009 16:50

Woowa, I also received my reusable nappies.

When do you think it a good time to start washing all the bedding, clothes, nappies...?

Still 10 weeks to go until my EDD but as I was told I will be induced between week 36 and 38 I'm starting to wonder if I should put the washing machine in action?

I hope Christmas shopping went well to you all

woowa · 05/12/2009 17:51

good question guernseyfrench. I washed LOADS of stuff from cousins a few weeks ago and put it all away in the drawers. Now I feel it needs washing again which is SILLY! But it's been sitting about...!

Nikki87 I went through a completely obsessed period re pushchairs in about week 12, and picked it fairly soon afterwards. Because of my strict criteria (which I won't bore you with!) there were only 3 or 4 in existence to choose from, and i went for the one which is closest to perfect on my criteria. I guess you could do the same and rank what you want from a pushchair in order, then when you go to shop, you look for those criteria instead of being overwhelmed with the HUGE and overwelming choice! So I went into Mothercare/toysrus/mamas and papas/local independent and said, I would like x, y, z, and r from a pushchair, which do you have that fit that description? Worked brilliantly. Then check out reviews on line.

Having said that, if you're a first timer like me, its quite hard to know in advance what is really important and what is silliness. For example, I only wanted one which could be rear-facing beyond 6 months old (as i'm a person who loves watching babies and smiling at them) , but several parents have since told me that I'm mad. It is a really personal decision to each mum.

Some smaller manufacturers (like icandy, pushchairs of BEAUTIFUL colours!) take quite a few weeks to deliver to shops, so it might be worth thinking about it now in case you decide on one of those.

Now, back to online christmas shopping. With the pain I have in the pubic bone i don't think i'll enter another shop til march!

stressheaderic · 05/12/2009 18:42

Picked up my pram and car seat today too, had fun assembling it all and having a go of it at my parents' house, still all feels decidedly unreal though... Cannot believe real human being will be here soon. Arrgghhhhh!

AbsB · 06/12/2009 22:21

Hi,
I'm due 25th of Feb 2010 with first child, not really sure how this thread thing works....
Is this the right place for me to be? I have a question regarding midwife. I haven't met her yet... she's gone back to Nigeria to see her father who is ill and isn't due back til the end of December. Should i be worried? Not really sure what to expect or how often I'm supposed to see her. She told me to book in with my GP for 24 and 28 week check ups... I'm now 28 weeks. Should I tell the hospital? Don't know any other pregnant mums.... HELP!
Don't know what any of the abbreviations mean on this site... !!!! Hope to hear from somebody! I live in West London.

bethylou · 06/12/2009 22:45

Welcome AbsB. Definitely in the right place and you'll soon pick up the abbreviations. Should you have seen a midwife at 10ish and 16ish weeks? Have you got green maternity notes? Sounds like you definitely need to see someone if you haven't already.

I've just finished the decorating that has taken over our lives in the last week. This is the last major job on our list before the baby arrives (well, apart from sorting out Christmas...) so I'm very pleased to have pretty much finished (a little edging to do on another day and the furniture to rearrange). Luckily, it looks fab so has been worth all the effort. Have to hope I can still move in the morning though as feel quite stiff. Unfortunately, I don't think the baby has decided to turn (as is breech at the mo), despite me spending half the weekend on all fours edging the skirting in an attempt to persuade it to upend!

Nikki87 · 06/12/2009 22:56

welcome absb, regarding the abbreviations, if u click acronyms at the tops of the page, near the topic link, it tells you what they all mean, i didn't know at 1st, but thats really helpful, there are a few you neede to work out, but from the context of what the person is saying u can normally work it out

Enoko · 07/12/2009 09:16

Hi everyone!

I'm new to this site, and to prospective motherhood - I'm due on 22 February with our first. I hope I'm in the right place! I suddenly panicked at the weekend that I don't actually know any other mums-to-be.

I had been planning to go to a local aquanatal and pregnancy pilates classes when I felt ready to join the m2b world, only to find out this weekend, having finally felt ready to take the plunge, that the classes no longer run. It seems there's not a lot of antenatal stuff in my area.

On the subject of weight gain, I'm lucky to have a DP who isn't at all worried about that sort of thing. If anything, I'll be the one putting pressure on myself to lose the baby weight quickly, although I'm determined to be fairly philosophical about it when the time comes. I saw the midwife last week, and I didn't get weighed, but I did get measured as 2 weeks further along that my dates. The midwife said that since I'm tall, and so's my DH (he's 6'7"!), it was hardly surprising.

I've found this calculator really handy, as it tells me what range I should be in at two week intervals. I'm steadily heading from the bottom of the range closer and closer to the top of the range. Oh well, I blame it on the delicious cakes in the staff restaurant at work.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all a bit better over the next few weeks.

wbw
Enoko

AbsB · 07/12/2009 09:46

Thank you bethylou and Nikki87 and welcome Enoko!
I have blue maternity notes that I took home after my second scan, which was all fine. I have a room in the house designated as a nursery but haven't even started clearing it out yet.
DP (thanks for the acronym tip NIkki87, very useful!) is in Australia on tour for a couple of weeks, and I'm trying to juggle work and walking dogs, feeling larger and larger and oh my GOD I'm huge! He will be back next week and after recovering from jetlag is going to start moving and painting...
I didn't want to order nursery furniture too early just in case(?)
Can I ask, does anyone else have really huge ankles with absolutely no definition????
I should have called myself ElephantAbs!
Anyway, thank you for welcoming me on this site, I am so excited to be talking to other mothers with similar due date!!!

ktmincepie · 07/12/2009 11:13

Morning!
Hello to all the new people. Glad you've managed to find us.
My bump seems huge now! Stretchmarks are stretching too Baby is wriggling about a lot in there.

I think I'll be waiting until after Christmas to start washing things and really getting things ready. We have nearly finished decorating the babys room so will be ready then to start putting things in there.

When do we start sitting on a gym ball? I seemed to spend ages bouncing around on one of those last time, think I will get DH to dig it out of the loft when he goes up to get the Christmas decorations (the ladder is a bit flimsy and I'm not convinced it will hold me at the moment, or that I will get through the loft hatch!) Not sure what DS will make of it, will probably push me off!

Also I got some raspberry leaf tea a few weeks ago and can't remember when you start drinking that? Does anyone know?

I don't feel like I have done anything at all to prepare for this baby, so far I haven't bought anything. Better look out for some winter baby clothes as DS was a summer baby.

Do you like my Christmas name change?
