Anterior Placentas

Hello, quick question!

If you had an anterior placenta while pregnant (or if you have one) when did you start to feel 'strong' kicks from the baby?

Cheers
Elf

I had an anterior placenta with DS and I can't remember feeling 'strong' kicks until over 24 weeks or so. From the first noticeable movement at 19 weeks until then it was more a sensation of the baby shifting position inside.

i have an anterior high placenta and didn't feel strong kicks till around 22 - 24 weeks, and then they weren
't as strong as expected. now 29 weeks and getting battered!

started feeling flutters from around 16 weeks

Thanks for the info. I have an anterior placenta and will be 23 weeks tomorrow. I feel the odd little prod and poke (mostly around feeding times!) but nothing very strong. I was just wondering if people with anterior placentas ever do get stronger kicks. I'll be eagerly awaiting the stronger ones in the next few weeks or so then!

i had an anterior placenta with dd2 and although i still felt kicks early on, i didnt feel the more subtle movements.and the midwivesquite often had a nightmare time finding the heartbeat.

fastasleep · 15/06/2005 10:01

I got told by my sonographer that it meant, depending on the exact positioning, that you might not be able to feel anything more than a flutter until 29/30 weeks or so...

Silly anterior placentas! Out to worry us they are..

mumtobejen · 01/09/2006 17:16

Hi, I am now 26 weeks and I have an anterior high placenta and had a 'bubble' like flutter at 20 weeks. Then had kicks at the front from then on at tea time and bedtime, but the last 3 weeks i would say the kicks are more at the bottom or seem to be at the back. But, every now and then i do get big 'lurches' and seems as though i do a caterpillar movement as whole stomach moves. I am aware that movements may be less as placenta in the way and generally kicks I am aware of but they aren't really really strong, but some of them are. Hopefully that helps !!

twocatsonthebed · 01/09/2006 17:27

I've got one, and I've only really started to feel strong kicks in the last couple of weeks. And even then, because of the position, only really hard when I lie on my side (if I'm every getting worried, I find that being on my side with a small pillow under the bump is enought to set it off most of the time).

And yes, with spacecadet on how hard it can be for mw to find heartbeat!

katierocket · 01/09/2006 17:27

I have an anterior placenta and only just started to feel kicks - 21 weeks with no 2

twocatsonthebed · 01/09/2006 18:00

sorry, forgot to say - am now 32 weeks

I had an anterior placenta wih dc1 and felt nothing until 24 weeks. Dc2 and this one (24 wks) have both been posterior and the difference is amazing. I felt this one at 15 wks and it's kicking more strongly at this point that dc1 did at about 30wks.

mumtobejen · 28/09/2006 14:12

Hi,
i'm now nearly 30 weeks and like someone else feel stong kicks mainly when lie on my side. although sometimes on my back my WHOLE stomach moves !! very strange !! although kicks in past 2 weeks (so from 28 weeks for me) have been really really strong ! be great if i'd know at the beginning when to expect strong kicks, but no-one said that placenta position may affect this !! but at least we can share the knowledge via this! jen x

Emmab1802 · 27/10/2006 16:09

I am 20 weeks pregnant and fed up of people keep asking me if I have felt the baby kick yet - I have felt nothing - someone told me I might have an anterior placenta as the midwife could not find a heartbeat at 16 weeks but a scan showed I was all OK. Can't wait for 20 weeks scan next week to show if its true - if I do have anterior placenta !

msrlmoss · 15/11/2006 15:46

Nice to read this makes me feel "normal"; I found out at my scan that I too have an anterior placenta and that's why I haven't felt Bertie kicking yet. I'm twenty one weeks so it's good to hear I'll still be "normal" even if I haven't felt him for a week or two more!!

HailBop · 14/07/2007 19:47

Does anybody know if and/or how an anterior placenta affects labour? Just noticed this on my ultrasound notes and curious.

katepol · 14/07/2007 20:06

Hiya
I had two anterior placentas followed by a posterior one. I definitely felt the kicks being much stronger with the posterior one. I didn't feel any movement with dc1 until after my 21 weeks scan for sure, and only then flutters. Kicks and somersaults were really only after 26+ weeks.
Hwr, I had easy labours with all three, so having anterior placentas doesn't necessarily mean that baby will turn posterior and be awkward to get out .

HIya i have an anterior placenta so my mind is now at ease knowing that this is why i am not feeling slight movements as much as i should be doing in 2nd pregnancy and at 18 weeks 5 days. I`m sure i have felt kicks but they have been low down so i bet when i go for my anomaly scan in next week or 2 that they find the baby is breech i bet. I hope not i want a natural birth i will be upset if this is the case. its just that i think its strange that the kicks or what i think have been kicks are low down and i have started with back ache too

michemeghdir · 15/10/2007 13:55

I have an anterior placenta (not low) i felt my baby at 16 weeks im 22 weeks now and the baby is breech and kicking regularly, but sometimes i get this electric shocks now and again it only lasts a second. this is my sixth baby.
