Pacific - I bet you get people saying to you 'I bet you get people saying to you "I've got a rash/bump/lurgy" all the time'. In fact, I bet you get people saying to you that they bet you get people saying to you ... no, I'd better stop there

BulletProofMum · 10/11/2009 10:50

mumbot re swinflu vaccine

You won't be called. You need to contact your surgery yourself to arrange your vaccine.

I have mine tomorrow

Walnut8 · 10/11/2009 11:46

Congrats on your good scan news Arcadie ! Must have been painful to wait so long but happy it's good news.

So many posts here, can't remember what I was going to reply to.

Annamamma you look exactly as I'd imagined you look (except maybe a little more hardcore rock chick)! I can sympathise on the mini breakdowns, I have also had a few & I dont even have any other children and/or house-selling to contend with. DH has had a number of hysterical teary calls at the office, most recently after a terrible experience at the GP surgery where (among other things) a very rude man yelled and swore at me because he thought I was going to take his appointment!

Pennyscotia I bought that same DVD on Amazon but after having a conversation with my brother (who is a physio who works with pregnant women) he told me that he thought some of the moves were dodgy and told me to stop doing it!! Something to do with too much pressure on the pelvis. So I have gone back to my walking routine (30 mins on a treadmill most days) and have finally found pregnancy yoga classes in my area (altho i keep forgetting to enroll in them!). Does anyone have any tips on how they remember to do pelvic floor exercises? I do maybe one set then forget for a few days ...

DH felt a kick this morning!! So exciting. We are both getting so excited about baby coming! And I was asked in the supermarket a few days ago how far along I am. Starting to feel less surreal ...

MandaHugNKiss · 10/11/2009 12:05

Horrible backache this morning...

Walnut

Tigresswoods · 10/11/2009 13:55

Hey mumbot you go girl. I was sceptical about the NCT sale and am quite picky about quality etc but somethings I think it is silly not to get second hand. £1 for a bath is great and if we never use it then what have we lost!?

It is certainly something I would go to again at a later stage too as there was lots of good quality stuff there. My friend who has an 18 mnth old DD swears by them and as a result the little girl always has loads of toys that don't cost the earth.

mumof2point5 · 10/11/2009 15:26

hi marchies! due st paddys day.can i join your gang. will be dsis for ds and dd. v.excited

MandaHugNKiss · 10/11/2009 15:38

Oh, fgs... I meant shroomer

I'm in quite a lot of pain now, so much so that I resorted to taking two paracetamol which havent really helped, plus I have a mild period type pain under my bump and a twingey sensation to go to the toilet after I've just been to toilet. I'm guessing 'uti' or something similar. Just called my gp and they've given me an appointment for 4.40pm. That's one of the benefits of belonging to a health clinic with many doctors/patners - I can always be seen same day if something crops up. Granted not with my Dr (she only works part time now so I have to book at least a week in advance to see her), but I don't mind.

Rindercella · 10/11/2009 16:18

Hello everybody. I hope all's well and I promise I will have a read through the thread to catch up on all the news. I can't believe I haven't posted in such a long time, but I really had no news

Well, today I had my anomally scan and thankfully Baby Rinders looks as healthy & fit as anything We also found out the sex, and we're having another girl! I think it took both DH and I by surprise as we were both convinced she was going to be a boy, had a boy's name we both loved, etc.. But, we're really happy and actually another girl makes life an awful lot easier (can leave everything pink!).

Apart from that, not much news here. I am still sufffering quite badly from headaches, which the GP says is probably hormonal. She did suggest seeing an acupuncturist (there's apparently a good one in the village specialises in pregnant women!). But other than that, I am fit & fighting

PacificDogwood · 10/11/2009 17:24

@ shroomer. Welcome! Don't actually have a problem with being asked inappropriate stuff and diagnosing a "virtual" rash is impossible anyway ...

Pixie, glad your swine flu arm is better, mine was jolly sore as well but almost back to normal 4/7 down the line.

Annamama, gawd, minibreakdowns, are they not a statuatory requirement when you are pregnant and looking after other LOs?? Know how you feel. Is your Dad not coming to stay with you soon? Hope it will be nice to have some adult company...

And more good scan results: congrats Rindercella!

BTW, swine flu jag: our surgery is inviting pregnant woman. So far 4 out of 15 have wanted it... As the vaccine comes in 10dose vials and once cracked open has to be used in 24 hrs, we kind of try to have 10 people lined up in one day to have it in order not to waste too much vaccine. I know it is different form healthboard to healthboard, but the amount of vaccine at the mo is limited: we have 100 doses for just under 7000 patients so pregnant woman and then children with chronic diseases will be called first.

BulletProofMum · 10/11/2009 19:13

Interesting...

My surgeyr has just 50 doses and are waiting for at risk groups to come forwad. At first they were resistant to allowing me to have saying that onyl >28 weeks was allowed.

I had to argue that this contravenes NHS guidelines!

They capitulated after speaking to the midwife! Not sure why she's the expert all of a sudden. Surely this is being released with clear guidelines on whom is eligable?!

MandaHugNKiss · 10/11/2009 20:08

I'm now the proud owner of a course of antibiotics... white blood cells in my sample along with presenting symptoms means I'm popping pills! Good job I pointed out I'm allergic to penicillin as the Dr initially went to prescribe amoxicillin. Now just wondering if I'll get my usual rection to antibiotics; no not thrush, but crippling stomach pains and retching over the toilet (though not usually throwing up).

I noticed there are swine flu walk in clinics with no appointment necessary at my centre... I wonder if that means they've recieved quite a lot of vaccine or if there's not been a huge uptake. Hmmm.

PacificDogwood · 10/11/2009 21:29

Why is there no "despair" emoticon??

Manda, hope you feel better soon.

Just back from boring meeting at work . Almost lost will to live .

I am sure a night's sleep with help. So, night-night!

annamama · 10/11/2009 21:52

Pixie & Walnut - I'm still a rock chick at heart but I don't really look like one anymore. And DH used to have long dyed-black hair and tight leather pants... now he looks "normal" too. But when not pregnant we still have the odd wild night where we get drunk at home and sing & dance to rock music!

Yeah I guess the odd breakdown is only normal...

My dad is coming over from Sweden to keep us company on Monday, can't wait!

Rinders - congrats on girl! Are you drinking plenty of water? I find I'm more thirsty when pg, if I don't drink I get headache straight away. Downside is going to loo all the bloody time but better than headache.

Hi mumof2.5 - welcome!

Manda - hope you get better soon! You too should drink loads of water.

Me I'm having a (small) glass of rose. Had a stressful drive back from London, went to see a friend today with DD. On the way there no probs, took an hour. On the way home nearly collided with van, got a bit lost, and got stuck in rush hour traffic. Took more than 2 hours! Going to see another friend on thursday, might take train instead, but that's a pain too, and pushchair on tube is no fun! Why am I not rich enough to have a helicopter pick us up and then land on Hampstead Heath...

Pacific - are you allowed to prescribe medicin to yourself and your family? Just curious. I think you mentioned once that you had to go to your GP...? Oh, and I have this rash... only joking... no but my boobs are itchy! (which I'm sure is normal in pregnancy, what isn't!)

Hi all!
[waves in a flustered manner]

Been just about managing to keep up with everyone's news, but not been able to post due to rubbish internet at home and lack of time at work - which is currently mental.

That and the fact that I'm collapsing into unconsciousness at around 10pm most night having barely managed to load the dishwasher first.

Where's all that second trimester energy I'm supposed to have, eh? EH?

It might, or course, have something to do with the fact that my morning nursery run and then on to work journey has now become a 2 hour trek of mammoth walks, lengthy (and usually delayed) bus journeys (standing, naturally ) and finishing with a delightful 45 minutes spent on a variety of packed tubes.

It's really starting to get to me TBH, and am wondering how I will manage it in January when I'm really huge, as I'm not really coping with it now...

I'm up to 4 days a week at the moment too - so it feels pretty relentless.

ANYWAY,

To brighter things, I finally get my scan this thursday (I've been feeling really left out!) at 22 weeks . Hopefully we'll be able to find out what flavour we're having - if baby co-operates!

I'll keep you posted...

Oh, and it was DDs birthday today - although we had a mini-gathering for her on Sunday afternoon and we will be going to the Zoo tomorrow... hoping for better weather than last year when it tipped it down relentlessly all day!

Poor DD woke up yesterday with her left eye swollen to the size of a golf-ball so she couldn't open it... interestingly the eye itself wasn't red or weepy so not conjunctivitis as I first thought. Trip to GP was inconclusive other than "some kind of infection behind the eye" so DD is on anti-bs and drops, poor love. At least eye is open now, and looks relatively normal if a little pink/bruised-looking.

Anyway, bit of a me, me, me post, but just wanted to update. Must... now... sleeeeeep...

But whey-hey - tomorrow is a no-commute day!

Lots of love to all,
db
xx

MummyElk · 11/11/2009 05:21

Morning all

mumbot · 11/11/2009 08:29

mummyelk glad you posted, I had the best part of 1 hours sleep last night, couldn't get comfy, turning over in bed is a nightmare due to my massive bump so really sympathise with you [typing with bags under eyes, bed hair and half asleep face - a good look!!]

For London commuters you can get official badges from Tube stations that say 'baby on board', should make it a little easier to get a seat.

xxx

shroomer · 11/11/2009 08:53

How thoughtful of TFL to arrange for 'baby on board' stickers for those travelling on the tube. I don't live in London, but it may be useful for our group since we will have bumps hidden under winter coats.

Does anyone know how to get this topic permanently 'flipped'? Everytime I log on I have to flip it to see the latest messages.

Pacific - My surgery isn't inviting people in for the vaccine. Wish I was in your surgery. I had to phone up and I have to wait another week for the jab.

Walnut - Short of putting a notice on your fridge door saying 'squeeze your vagina and anus muscles now', I don't know how to remind yourself to do your pelvic floor exercises. My book says you should do a few a day. Perhaps stick a note on the (decaff) tea caddy?

Does anyone else think that their baby moving feels like going over a small hill in a car - you know, when you lose your stomach for a second?

PacificDogwood · 11/11/2009 09:01

Oh yes, the not sleeping, particularly in the early morning hours, gah!
I am always too hot in bed, no matter what I wear, how thin blanket, heating off, window open - also at some point when I just about get comfortable, DH claims he is dying of hypothermia , so some sort of compromise needs to be reached.
When the alarm goes I am of course fast asleep and really struggle to get going.
Mummyelk, here is your prize for actually getting up and doing something .

Commute: I do not know how you all do it!! Pregnant or not, child in tow or not, it would drive me insane.
LOL at Baby on Board badges from Tube stations. Hey if it helps... go for it!
I commuted @ 45 min by car for about 5 years, first on my own, then with DS1 - it was hell . I feel v lucky that both my and DH's jobs worked out it such a way that we were able to move to the sticks and work in the sticks and really not have a commute to speak of.
Whenever I get fed up with Scottish weather/nonexistent summer I remind myself of property prices elsewhere and I usually calm down again after a while.

Have a good day everybody!

MummyElk · 11/11/2009 09:33

Pelvic floor - Shiny stickers on things you reach for regularly....like the chocolate kettle/fridge etc. It was one of the only useful things my last NCT group lady gave us, a big long roll of stickers to put on various things. The idea is it reminds you to SQUEEZE (lol at shroomer) My old mobile also had one on it.... That being said, I can't boast of the world's best p floor having done ANOTHER weesneeze just as i was leaving for work the other day....
Thanks for trophy all, nice to know i'm not alone in the wakefulness! Anyone else feeling HUGE?!!! And I definitely have had a visit from the fanjo-kicking horse again, all feels a bit creaky down there...
Went in to get DD this morning, her THIRD word to me was - "Cbeebies??"

annamama · 11/11/2009 12:05

Hmm... pelvic floor... Last time I was pretty good doing my exercises while pg. But after the birth I still peed myself every time DH said something remotely funny and also I almost crapped myself at times. Gross! So now I'm thinking I can't be bothered, I'll do them after the birth instead.

I've just been to midwife appt. She couldn't hear the heartbeat clearly! She said if she can't hear it she needs to send me for a scan. I wasn't too worried as I feel baby move all the time. I suggested going for a coffee and then coming back... and it worked!

DB - your morning trek sounds awful. You have my deepest sympathies. Yeah get the baby on board badge. Hope your DDs eye gets better, scary...

Guess I'm lucky, still sleeping well. I've heard this is happening to prepare you for sleepless nights with baby...

Shroomer - no my movements don't feel like that, I wish they would, sounds cool! I used to click on a new post from "threads I'm on" and then go straight to the post, now it just takes me to the beginning of the thread...

I will take DD to baby clinic today to get her height and weight measured for the first time in like 6 months. I assume I will be seeing some newborns there, will be interesting... I forget what they are like!

OP posts:
Sariska · 11/11/2009 12:19

Oh god, pelvic floor exercises. Really must do some of them. Wonder if lots of exercises can somehow undo some of the ...er... wear and tear that area was subjected to last time? And maybe they're something to do for those lying awake sleepless at night? I seem to wake up about 5 most days, really needing the loo. This is really bad timing because DS is often stirring at that time and the slightest noise can push him into full blown wakefulness, which, at that time, means screaming and crying (him and possibly me also). Yesterday he woke at 4.45 am: an utterly, utterly revolting time of day. I ended up lying on his floor in a sleeping bag with him cuddled up next to me. After several rounds of "nose! nose!", during which he reached out and grabbed my nose, he fell asleep. I didn't - just lay awkwardly on my side, with my hip and shoulder killing. Should have done my pelvic floor exercises, shouldn't I! Still, it was DH's turn this morning, which meant I got to sleep until 6.30. Bliss.

MummyElk, was it you who mentioned that green dress? I remember the dress - thought it was scrummy - but it wasn't me who'd bought it. I think it was Siamese but apologies if I'm wrong. Not sure where it was from but maybe Blooming Marvellous?

Anna, I'm not being sycophantic when I say I loved your songs. Just my kind of sounds! Glad your mw appt went well in the end. That could really have panicked you if you hadn't been feeling the baby move so much. Still, good that your mw took a better safe than sorry approach.

Shroomer, I think I know what you mean about the car going over the hill thing. I sometimes think I have a mini rollercoaster inside me.

"Hello" to everyone else.

Oh, one more thing: eating raw cookie dough isn't a great idea while pregnant, is it?

shroomer · 11/11/2009 12:24

Is there egg in raw cookie dough? If so, the NHS advice would be to wait until it's cooked. Hard, I know...

PacificDogwood · 11/11/2009 13:16

Pelvic floor? Did somebody say "Pelvic Floor"? No idea what you are talking about as I have not got one of them anymore .
I do my exercises every now and then, will also concentrate on them again post natally when sitting on my backside all hours that God send with small baby-shaped leech attached to boobies....

Sariska, you cannot wake early with pregnancy insomnia and then have to look after unreasonable toddler at that hour - it is against the law . You tell your DH, it's his turn every morning... (not like that worked for us, boo, hiss).

And no to raw cookie dough, I am sorry, unless it is in Hagendasz (sp?) icecream ...

Sariska · 11/11/2009 13:54

No, not the ice cream sort (although that's an idea ). It's the homemade sort with raw egg in it. I've turned most of it into cookies but there is some left and I am soooo tempted. But I Will Be Strong.
