Hello ladies, another newbie here. Can I squeeze in? 19+1 today. I'd been celebrating the passing of my queasiness, only to have it replaced instantly by an outstanding display of indigestion. So it's peppermint tea for me too from now on. And I hate the stuff. (Goes to fridge yet again to stare longingly at the trio of chocolate trifles she'd bought today and which she'd cunningly hidden from DH and DD...) Onwards and upwards. As it were.

PennyScotia · 03/11/2009 09:48

Morning everyone. I'm just back from my 20 week scan and everything looks fine. Baby was wriggling about and sucking her (his?) thumb. The hospital have a no tell policy on the sex so it will be a surprise. However, we didn't see anything that made us think it's a boy. Legs wrapped up obscuring the umbilical cord didn't help much

I'm feeling much more relaxed now and would love to just float about the house for the rest of the day. Unfortunately I need to go to work now.

Hope everyone else has a good day

Pingpong · 03/11/2009 10:11

I've been getting terrible heartburn - did with DD too. Doesn't make a difference if I avoid spicy/fatty foods everything seems to give me heartburn. Sometimes it ends up with vomiting other times just uncomfortable. I've been on rennies and gaviscon and then took some peppermint tea up to bed with me last night and it worked a treat. Need to stock up with some more.
As for the parent facing prams/buggies I just don't get this. Yes it's nice to look at your baby but I spent nearly all day looking at DD so when we went out with the buggy I really wasn't overly concerned whether I could see her/she could see me. And as they become more aware of things the fact she faced forwards became a positive advantage as it meant I could stuff chocolate in my mouth without her even noticing. Generally speaking the parent facing buggies seem to be in the higher price bracket.

Minicooper · 03/11/2009 12:10

Hello, back from my scan and all seemed well - though disobliging baby wouldn't divulge whether its a boy or a girl. I know that the important thing is that its healthy, but I WANTED TO KNOW [spoilt child emoticon!] Still, thanks to a low lying placenta I have to have another scan at 34 wks, so hopefully find out then. But another 12 wks to wait (sigh....)

scooby26 · 03/11/2009 19:25

Hi all

Had an exciting weekend as all the nursery stuff has been delivered from Mamas and Papas. Sure I've said before that we wouldn't ideally have ordered so early but the sale was the deciding factor!! Now it's here though it's all very cute and both and myself and DH thinks is lovely. The room is getting painted this week as DH is off for 4 days.

Sadly feeling crap today - got the lurgy cold that everyone else has had so had to relent and go sick. Spent literally all day in bed dozing and coughing. Had been told by my GP that my asthma inhalers were safe so have used a few times over the last 48 hours. something made me look on the internet though and there is defintely conflicting advice on it - if he'd said that I would have tried harder to manage without them. Now i'm feeling a little paranoid that bubs doesn't seem to have made himself as known to me today as much as usualso I'm thinking of popping to docs tomorrow for reassurance.

Glad everyone is stil having good scan results. I have to admit I can't recall who had teh possible issue with a kidney (apologies) but I'm sure it will have sorted itself out by the next scan.

Jealous of those of you with low lying placentas as you all get another scan - no more here for us!! I gather for most of you the placenta will move anyway and it's a nice precaution to have. For those of you it doesn't I guess you get to have the baby through the sunroof!! For what it's worth I have two friends who have had two children each - both had 1 cs and 1 natural and both would plump for CS each time!!!

Anyway off for comfort food - hope you're all well and welcome to the newbies!!!

Caitni · 03/11/2009 21:16

Evening ladies

Had a quick scan of all the messages, as just (literally) back home from a long weekend in Brugges, with my DH and my MIL (on her way back to NJ from a trip to India). Twas great, but knackering as I managed to get the dreaded lurgy right before I left (typical!) and my MIL is a bit of a "trial" at times. Still, overall a lovely break and enjoyed my MIL's company much more than if we had stayed in London! And Brugges is just beautiful...

Welcome to all the newbies - it's great that more and more women are finding this thread, as it's lovely to hear how other women are doing. Yay for spring babies

Sorry for those of you still sick - really hope it eases soon.

Puree 17 weeks maternity leave...does that mean your SPD is terrible? Really sorry if so, must be so debilitating especially with a toddler in tow .

Dalrymps I feel your pain on the kidney thing as we had a similar thing at my anomaly scan (my notes say "bilateral renal dilation"). I get a rescan at 34 weeks and was very worried originally. But after some good advice on here (people like Pacific know of what they speak ), and posting a thread in Pregnancy and some googling, I'm much more reassured (our sonographer was also very reassuring). Even in the worst case scenario, of antibiotics after birth and possible (minor) surgery, it's a lot better than being told there's a problem with the brain or heart...so am now just looking forward for a chance to see baba again at 34 weeks . And it makes me glad that the scan technology means we can even spot these things before birth these days!

Anyway, sorry for the massive ramble. Off to soak in the bath and catch up on my sleep [exciting]

Caitni · 03/11/2009 21:18

PS anna hope you made it home in one piece. Myself and my DH also have (vague) plans to move to the states over the next few years. I'd like to raise our family near extended family, but I don't want to go back to Ireland so NJ it is. I definitely couldn't handle Florida...the states is hard enough but FL would tip me over the edge!

pureeandpearls · 03/11/2009 21:19

Hello all....glad our hospital doesn't have a no-tell policy, I'd have had a private scan. i have to know these things!

I also became a stay at home mum today as Maternity Leave starts unexpectedly early. Ho-hum. Maybe after a couple of years of being the mom I'll look forward to the commute (not likely after today's run-in with a rude member of rail staff thathad me in tears.)

PacificGuywood · 03/11/2009 22:16

Oh, puree, what happened? Sounds like you had a bad day... did you?
All you ladies considering/going on early mat leave, how much leave will you get/take after LO arrives? I feel a bit foolish or stupid now considering to keep going to 38 weeks - I feel tired just at the thought of it, to be honest. I just want as much mat leave as possible at the other end...

Anyhoo, more good scans and more newbies, this thread is jumping, v good !

Right, I am off to bed now after my peppermint tea with Gaviscon chaser !
Night-night, all!

Arcadie · 03/11/2009 22:22

Hey all - reading every day but still no scan for another 6 days so nothing exciting to post..... Anyone else having a) lots of Braxton Hicks? b) nasty nasty nasty rib pain? just me? OK. Night then!

hecklephone · 03/11/2009 22:23

smac LOL at you stuffing chocolate into your mouth while DD's facing the other way! I suppose you're right, forward-facing definitely has its advantages, and it's certainly a matter of personal preference. Thanks to you and pacific too for advice on peppermint tea. I do have some in the cupboard and have tried it once or twice recently-I'm not loving it but I guess I should perservere...or take out shares in gaviscon

actually the heartburn seems to be taking a night off tonight-despite me eating my body weight in vintage cheddar and onion crisps. Long may it last!

DrSkidaddle · 03/11/2009 22:46

Hello,

does anyone remember me?! It has been WEEKS since I last posted and you all write so much I can't keep up! Am going to try again though...

Congrats on all the boys and girls - can't believe how many of us have found out. It is also a relief to hear others admit to slight disppointment as I felt really bad about confessing my own. I still have to look the other way when I see baby girl clothes but at the same time I am really looking forward to meeting my little boy

caitni - I am alo having driving lessons and am also obsessed with passing before I have this baby - even though we hardly ever use the car. Hope we both do it!

Hey Arcadie - never see you in Dec07 anymore so good to see you are alive and well! Funny that you also have a (slight) girl preference - think you are right not to find out though because you will never be disappointed when you actually have your tiny baby in your arms.

minicooper - how annoying s/he wouldn't let you see the sex - 12 weeks is a LONG time to wait! Do you think it is more likely it's a girl then or did it just have it's legs clamped shut?

Now don't post TOO much and give me a chance to keep up with you!

pureeandpearls · 04/11/2009 08:37

DrSkiddadle- this thread has a life all of it's own!!

Pacific, thanks for asking. I just had one of those shit experiences where the member of staff didn't give a shit that I was a) massively pregnant b) walking with a stick and c) carrying several bags but just refused to let me through the Disabled turnstile or even help me manage to get my ticket in the machine with all of the above. I ended up in tears and had to wait until all the commuters had gone throgh before I could muster the composure to manage myself. Sounds pathetic written down but it was so upsetting at the time.

I feel better today though (although DD on her second outfit due to Poonami....have had to give her a bath and not ten minutes later the dog rubbed fox poo all over my sofa so now she needs a bath too...)

scarysarahandco · 04/11/2009 11:01

my word its been busy on here!!!!

Puree- hope your ok today, poo situation cant be helping!!!LOL

poor you at the station how rude of that staff member was he a man?!

welcome all newbies, dr skid welcome back!!! congrats on baby boy xxx

lovely to hear about all the scans going so well,

my baby boy appears to keep sitting on my sciatic nerve!!! the pain in my left bum cheek when i walk is awful- was bad at work last night not as bad this morning but still there!!!! heart burn also bad here!!!tell me why i am am having baby number 3!!!

a quick question- i have a pain not really sore but uncomfortable!!!! across my tummy in line with my tummy button- keeps coming and going what can it be? any ideas?

Sariska · 04/11/2009 11:09

That sounds rubbish Puree. What a jobsworth. Actually, scratch that. What a knob. No wonder you were upset. And fox poo! Why oh why does it hold such a magnetic attraction for dogs?

For those who are slightly disappointed that DC2 appears to be the same sex as DC1, does it make anyone better to hear what happened to me recently? A lady I'd never met before asked me if I knew what I was having and, when I said it was probably a girl, she shook her head and said, "Oh they won't get on you know - and she'll have no patience with him". ("Him" being my 19 month old DS.) I was slightly taken aback and almost a little but did no more than incline my head and say something inane. I mean, honestly! Just because that was her experience with her DC doesn't mean it'll be mine. There are no guarantees with these things after all. Children of any sex may or may not get on, just as girls (or boys) may or may not show any interest in clothes (am crossing fingers mine doesn't like pink) and boys (or girls) may or may not like football. Anyway, little rant over now. Sorry all!

Sorry to hear about your tummy button pain, Sarah. No idea what it could be. Pregnancy is full of weird little (or not so little) aches, pains and discomforts, isn't it! I guess speak to your MW if it doesn't go away and keeps worrying you.

Arcadie · 04/11/2009 11:47

Puree ROFL at Poonami!!!!

DrSkid I'm still on Dec07 .... just reading the two threads takes up so much of my time I never get chance to post!!!

Sarah My belly button ALWAYS hurts in pregnancy.

BulletProofMum · 04/11/2009 15:20

Puree - I have just come back from the states after spending 2 weeks in Chicago.

I have SPD as well and using crutches. The contrast was unbelievable. People could not do enough for me. Opening doors, jumping queues, giving up seats, showing me lifts (sorry elevators), offering wheelchairs at every museum. It was bizarre and uncomfortable at first (being stubborn and British - accepting help isn't always easy). I soon got used to it though and it was wonderful!

Interestingly, in contrast tot he UK where everyone comments on my bump - no-one there mentioned it (let alone want to touch it!).

Scary - your bum pain sounds like SPD...

pureeandpearls · 04/11/2009 16:24

Now it's just not fair to make me that envious Bulletproof If you are interested there's an SPD sofa over here!

IWCAS: I don't FEEL patient. I feel anxious.
And feeling all adrift "down under in the lady tunnel area" is perfectly normal. Pain = bad. Blood = bad. Everything else = probably just your body doing its thang.

hecklephone · 04/11/2009 20:13

iwcas Arcadie's right, expect to feel all kinds of weird goings on in all kinds of regions you never knew you had for the next 20 or so weeks. (and possibly after that too ) I remember regularly feeling like DD1 had decided to plonk herself ON my cervix for a while, and bounce up and down a wee bit, as if to test out 'ah, so this is where I'll be exiting from...'. Nice.

Am delicately supping from a mug of peppermint tea as I type this, in an attempt to head off heartburn at the pass. I'm determined to get to like this stuff, however weird it seems at first...Having said that, I also did stock up on Rennies and Gaviscon today at Boots . The tea is going down ok actually, it's not as bad as the raspberry leaf I took last pg - yuk. Won't be going down that road again - I only took it because it's supposed to make labour easier - HA!

Sorry to hear the SPD sufferers are having a rough time of it. I've had a bit of pelvic/groin pain over the last few weeks but it seems to have eased for now, enough to make me want to sign up for a pregnancy yoga class I've just discovered in my local area - hurrah!

pureeandpearls · 04/11/2009 20:17

I second Arcadie....

PIxie- they usually like to deliver twins at 38 weeks (if they haven't already arrived) as Placenta doesn't work very well after that. The three sets of twins I can think of (Bromley highest rate of twins in the country- mad?) were born at 33, 36 and 37. The third set were to a mum of two for the record... hth.

Just had my swine flu shot. Hmm

mumbot · 04/11/2009 21:25

Hi everyone, just a quick note to say all is OK, it's a BOY - yay Haven't been on for ages so will take time to read and catch up, hugs to all x

annamama · 04/11/2009 21:53

Caitni - we'll have to be friends in New Jersey then! Yes Florida would drive me mad too, in fact I can't understand how anyone can want to live there!

I'm so glad to be back home and away from the heat, it was really starting to freak me out. Flight was a nightmare, totally jam packed full, so no spare seat for DD. She was on my lap all night and it's even more uncomfortable with the pg belly in the way, didn't even think of that! Should have bought an extra seat really but it's almost full price and we're usually lucky enough to get a spare one. And had an incident that almost brought me to tears, I had ordered a kids meal for DD online (it asked for her meal preference!), then turns out that it's one meal per seat so they weren't going to give me a proper adult meal! Cue me with tears welling up "you must be joking, I'm pregnant, I need to eat!". Somehow they managed to find me a spare proper meal. Damn Virgin, I will complain about their stupid website! Anyway, I slept 1 hr maximum so am completely knackered but getting a "second wind" now as I'm still used to Florida time and it's not bedtime there yet... DD is asleep, hope she stays that way! She was really happy to be back home in her own bed and with all her toys, bless her. I miss DH terribly already! He'll be away for 2 more weeks. Tomorrow morning I have scan at 10 am, hope I can get up and that all is well!

Sorry about me me me post, will catch up properly later on.
