Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
HumphreysCorner · 05/10/2009 20:48

Congratulations Neon on the birth of Thomas.

Treats-when I was induced it went from nothing to intense contractions in 2 hours and like you asked for an epidural but was too late and needed to push soon after. I was shocked this time to find you are only examined every 4 hours, not happened in previous 2 labours.

devils-the MW has told me not to use Kamillasan (sp) but to use Lansinoh. She gave me a sample and have phoned the Dr today to get some on prescription tomorrow. Haven't tried the BM but do sit getting the air to them.

LMB-should you be able to see the bit round your nipples when feeding. I'm wondering if he is latched on too low down as he keeps sliding down which I don't think is helping.

My stitches are still sore and not helped by me wearing a pad and pants all the time. Bleeding in hardly noticable so think I may let the air get to my bits tonight.

I think we could all stay on here until everyone has had their baby then we could start a PN thread.

Big wave to all.

HC

hackneybird · 05/10/2009 22:30

I like HC's idea of everyone staying on here until all babies are born - of course I would say that though as I am yet to have mine!

I am enjoying reading about everyone's experiences post birth as well as the build up to labour and delivery for everyone else.

Congrats Neon! I love the name you have chosen for your DS as well.

Treats, thanks for sharing your story - it sounds pretty tough although mercifully fast. I had a long chat yesterday with a friend who is also expecting soon, and she says she's having an epidural as soon as she is allowed one. Having heard her argument for it and also your thoughts on the matter I definitely feel more inclined to have one if I feel I need it. Like some say, we don't get medals for going through birth without one.

vampiredogstar · 05/10/2009 22:50

Congratulations jamesdavidsmum & Neon & Treats and all the other new arrivals! Sorry to miss some, I'm losing track as they are coming thick and fast now

40+1 today, feeling sore tonight but have done off and on for about a week now. I don't mind waiting too much but have my heart set on a water birth (was induced with ds)- so can't go too far overdue and am feeling like such a massive lump now it's all getting a bit uncomfortable and frankly a bit impossible.

good luck and >>> labour vibes to everyone else ready to pop!

vampiredogstar · 05/10/2009 22:53

ohh and what's happened to smallone

dizzytrout · 06/10/2009 06:33

Thank you HC

Well Sarah, plasterer or roofer didn't turn up yesterday so hopefully today will be better, it's very stressful, god knows why we waited this long to get it done, we've been talking about it since we found out I was pregnant, I really feel for you
Well, I'm up at the crack of birdsong with crampy pains again, not sure if it'll come to anything but getting them most days now (only got them a few times per week the other week)

jules888 · 06/10/2009 08:29

Congratulations jamesdavidsmum,Neon & Treats.

Feeling down today and terribly impatient even though only 39 + 5, maybe I'm just tired but seem TATT now.

Want to move on to the next stage with new arrival and feel life on hold till then.

Hope my smile will return soon, feel sorry for DS1 can't be nice having a miserable Mum.

DH refuses sex, says he can't bear the thought now (hmm nice), tried aromatherapy, walking, hot curry but no joy yet!

Good luck to everyone else patiently waiting xxx

NewbeeMummy · 06/10/2009 08:34

Congrats Treats - love the name

congratulations jamesdavidsmum

welcome dizzytrout, you're due the same day as me.

congratulations neon

So many more new arrivals.... Not that I'm at all

I do like HC's idea of waiting for everyone to give birth before moving on, but being one of the last due I would say that.

Have just been told builders are due to start ripping apart my living room (due to leak from neighbours boiler getting through the wall) the day I'm due, have been told if I ask them to delay it could be after Christmas As the room is growing mould the only choice is to get it done now. Maybe I'll go visit my mum for a few weeks once the lo has arrived.

Bump is rock solid, but thankfully had a decent nights sleep, not so crampy and achy this morning, but still inspecting every pad just in case (sorry tmi) movement seems to have become very restricted to a few kicks under my ribs.

Kind of hoping she waits until at least the 15th before she arrives as I would have completed my breast feeding classes, and hopefully have my yoga breathing figured out. (also don't want her to arrive on the 14th as it's Cliff Richards Birthday and both my mum and mil are massive fans of his and would probably forget the lo's birthday )

Sparklytwinkletoes · 06/10/2009 11:00

Hi all, congratulations to all the new arrivals!

My EDD is today but somehow I don't think its going to be happening - I had pains at 4am yesterday morning, but they went off after a couple of hours, so I went into the office with DH again. After not working nearly all the way through pg, I've found it a really nice diversion this past week or so, and very rewarding.

We've finished the project now though, so I'm back at home, been shopping online for a bit, and am about to head back to my bed with a hot milky drink (to try to ease the heartburn a bit ) and catch up on some zzzzzzzzzzzzz's!

It all feels a bit surreal at the moment, like I've been waiting so long that I can't actually imagine what it will be like, having the baby that is, and I've already got one DS.

Right, I'm off to cuddle up in bed with a good book , will try to catch up again later.

dizzytrout · 06/10/2009 11:03

Thank you NewbeeMummy, I've been getting crampy pains for a while too, I wonder if that means things may be starting soon, I just don't know what to expect so I'm a bit anxious!
I'm sorry to hear about your builders problems too, timing is terrible, we needed our loft converting or lo wouldn't have a bedroom to sleep in, it's taking a bit longer than planned and there is black dust all over the place, yuck!!!

LittleMissBliss · 06/10/2009 11:36

Morning all,

HC The ammount of the areola that is visible is really dependant on how big your nipples are. (mine get huge when breast feeding!)

You want to aim for the baby to get as much of the areola in their mouth as possible and for there to be a small ring visible (or there may be none visible if you have small nipples) More of the areola above is more likely to be visible than below. The idea is that the baby takes the nipple to the back of their mouth and is stimulating the areola and not the nipple. You shouldn't feel them pulling or suckling on your actual nipple with their gums. Should feel like a gentle pulling or sliding sensation, not at all painful.

If Matthew is sliding of the breast it sounds like he isn't latched on properly, with a good latch a vacuum is formed around the nipple, so the baby stays firmly attached. The babies cheeks should appear rounded and full.

I think If you aim to get more breast into his mouth, it may be worth letting him root around a bit before he attaches onto the breast so that he opens his mouth really wide. You want his bottom lip to be curled back and his chin touching your breast. If he's reluctant to self attach. You can use your thumb to point the nipple upward and then forwards into the roof of his mouth. So it may not be that he is too low down but, that he doesn't have enough of the breast in his mouth or he isn't taking the nipple to the back of his mouth so he is sucking on your nipple as apposed to your breast which could be why they are so sore.

Hope these tips help. Its all guess work when you can't see the baby feeding.

saraheb · 06/10/2009 12:35

Last night in bed, I woke up with my usual pain in my hips and across the pelvis. As I tried to move position to either try to get more comfortable or get out of bed, there was an enormous cracking sound and I felt my pelvis move at one side. For a second I panicked wondering if I had done something serious. Then I realised the pain had gone completely. I was so relieved and exhausted that I fell asleep quickly after. this morning when I woke up I expected to be in my usual pain but it was not nearly so bad. I am beginning to think that a few weeks ago when all the pain started that I must have done something to myself in my sleep and that crack last night was it going back into place. I still have the aches and pains but not the total pain I have been suffering. Feel like the baby can stay where it is for ages now and am not struggling so much when I am walking.

dizzytrout we sound so similar in circumstances. We are having the attic (old conversion) ripped out and totally redesigned. Like you I had/ have black dust settling every day. I hoover everynight after they all leave. I am grateful for the rain today as the builders have come here rather than lay concrete at their other site. Window that arrived yesterday was wrong and having to have a new one made. Nothing is going quite to plan! - except baby is staying put for now.

Hey everyone...im so behind on this now. Well done to everyone who's little ones are now with us!!!

Last night was my worse night ever, the pain kept me awake most of the night, then my waters slightly broke. Went to the hospital this morning, got my bloods taken & put on machine to check for contractions. Im going in tomorrow morning at 7am & the c-section should be arround 9.30am. I couldnt really understand alot that was being said to me, as most of the staff couldnt speak English....maybe not a bad thing lol.....The hospital is set up with internet so i should be able to let you all know what happens. Im getting really scared now, but most people think just because ive had a c-section before, that i should be ok. Its different starting a normal labour then having the c-section, to know you are going in for one....oh pants!!! Well its all started now, no going back lol....

Good luck to you all, look forward to hearing about everyone else who has given birth while im in hospital! xxxx

saraheb · 06/10/2009 13:33

I think HappyTangerine might be the next announcement - haven't heard anything from her since Sunday and she was going for a sweep on Monday

NewbeeMummy · 06/10/2009 13:41

LittlePea hope it all goes well, will be thinking of you tomorrow, just think hopefully by this time tomorrow you'll be holding your little one in your arms and all this will be over. x

HumphreysCorner · 06/10/2009 14:36

Thanks LMB-I have tried using my thumb to help him latch but he can't be attaching properly must be sucking on the nipple. I daren't let him self attach incase he just grabs my nipple-ouch! Have collected my tube of Lansinoh cream so the cracked scabs should improve.

Good luck for tomorrow littlepea.

Willmouse has had her baby Henry John 8 lb 1 oz by C-Section on the 2nd October.

Sparklytwinkletoes · 06/10/2009 14:46

Littlepea, there's been lots of talk of me having an elective this time round if labour doesn't start soon, and I think know what you mean.

When labour starts and it ends up with a CS, you kind of just get swept along with everything and don't have time to think about it... With a planned CS, it somehow all seems very different to me, a bit surreal even, knowing when your baby will arrive, not having the contractions and other labour 'symptoms' to prepare your body for what's coming - I know that sounds weird because frankly, I'd rather not be in pain, but its kind of what you anticipate to be part of the process of having a baby, so to take all that out is just a bit, well, wierd. A new experience all over again. But then, I guess its the difference this time around that make this birth special to us in a different way perhaps?

I'm talking twoddle aren't I - well, hope you understand a little bit of what I mean!!

Had a lovely big snooze, was only expecting to fall asleep for about an hour, but its been nearer three! Possibly ought to think about getting dressed, although DH is picking DS up today so probably no real need....

heylottie · 06/10/2009 14:53

Congrats to all the lovely new babies and mums on here, I kind of hoped this would encourage mine to get a move on but no! I have resigned myself to being one of the last, despite being due on Friday. No twinges, no cramps, nada.

It feels like baby is going to arrive by stealth... Especially as they don't induce til 12 days over down here.

Onwards though, onwards. Am getting a bit annoyed with the amount of (well meaning) phone calls dictating advice on sleep/ labour/feeding etc etc. I smile, through gritted teeth....

saraheb · 06/10/2009 14:56

thinking of you littlepea especially tomorrow.

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 06/10/2009 16:42

Good luck littlepea.

Felt worn out today. Not getting decent nights sleep at the minute due to various aches and pains. Am now 38+6 so a bit longer for me to go I think.

Sparklytwinkletoes · 06/10/2009 17:25

Littlepea, hope you get a good nights sleep tonight and that tomorrow goes smoothly for you!

princessmel · 06/10/2009 17:27

Hi all
Littlepea, your hospital sounds very snazzy with internet all set up!! Not like here...

I am feeling a bit blah and fed up. Everyday and night I think something could be happening, but nothing!!
I had some quite (painfuls the wrong word) strong BH last night and was shutting my eyes and breathing though them...but nothing!
Then I have felt damp a lot AGAIN. It seems like I am talking about my bodily fluids all day long to dh and all my friends. They all know about everything that has appeared on my knickers or pantliner! In fact I have stopped wearing one the last few days so I can really see what's coming out. Before I felt that anything was being absorbed into the liner and I couldn't tell what it was. I'm not sure if it's water/wee/dishcharge or what.
I know as soon as baby is here this will all seem so silly, but it's the not knowing and the waiting and wondering.

Also my bump is lopsided! It looks very odd! Well to me anyway.

I think I may have to try sex tonight and see if that works.

kowaikiwi · 06/10/2009 18:28

Brilliant news with more babies arrived! Congrats to all of you and good luck to the ones 'in progress'.
jdsmum I love Alexanders middle name, assuming it is a family name?
The list of babies to come is gradually getting smaller, and the one with arrivals is getting bigger - just wish I was on the bottom half! Please don't leave us until we've all popped, I would feel like I was missing out on all the good postnatal information and advice!
Well I'm 39+3 today so trying to decide whether I'm being impatient to want this baby out now, or whether I need to steel myself for at least another week. Here they only let you go 1 week overdue but I've delayed phoning to book my induction for 41 weeks (as advised by hospital midwife) hoping that it will just happen. Despite lots of professionals assuring me first babies are late there are a LOT of examples of early ones around.
No signs of anything from my bump though, quite a bit of movement, quite a few tight bump episodes but nothing to get me too excited. Even though I love lying down to rest/read a book, it's the swapping sides to avoid hip cramp or getting up again that is soooooo difficult. Reassuring I'm not the only one out there experiencing this, just sorry if it's painful for anyone else too. Ho hum.
Till next post...
Hugs to everyone including the little ones.
kk

lixanismapolium · 06/10/2009 18:40

Evening All ...

Phoenix Tabitha arrived at 7.56 pm last night in a bit of a hurry!

I had really mild contractions all morning, then waters broke at 2 pm - just a light trickle.

Went to hospital to get checked out and they said there was nothing really happening, booked me in for an induction on Friday and sent me home.

Called them back an hour and a half later to say I thought I really needed to come in now, only to find there was no room at the inn! They ordered an ambulance for me which whizzed me down to Brighton and Phoenix was born about 10 minutes after I got to the delivery ward!!

Mummy, baby and big sister doing really well - Daddy still in shock from the speed of it and the fact that he couldn't keep up with the ambulance!!!

Have updated the list.
