GRRRRR.

Up till now I've had only positive things to say about the midwives on the ante-natal day unit where I tend to spend most of my life! - My GP sent me there again on Monday cos I am STILL having a show - which is blood stained - now lasting 2 1/2 weeks. She said just in case it was my waters leaking. Went up - there - yet more concern over the size cos I measure only 34 weeks (am 39 1/2) therefore more scans. They took a swab to see what this stuff is! (Sorry TMI!) - Told to ring today for results. I rang just now and was told in a very off hand way that that the results are "in progress - ring again in a couple of days!!!" - I don't think they have any understanding that 2 days is a lifetime at this stage of pregnancy - I was worried before but now I am even more worried - what is "in progress?" - Can anyone reassure me?

  • Sorry a very me me me post. -
  • Mrs. Wed - love the name Jack too!
Cooperoo · 09/06/2005 13:45

Hey all - Thanks for your support again.
Lynny - Thinking of you today and sending lots of positive vibes.
Thanks to Nogger, Lua and Mrs W for posting to say how much easier things seem second tome round. It is giving me confidence and all the Junies experiences were a positive factor in me choosing to stick with the hospital rather than going private. I am sure I have made the right decision now.
Trib - Hope the shifting stuff os going ok. My bh are just when the whole bump goes hard. It happens alot and always when the midwife is trying to get the heartbeat lol.
Bubb - Big babies are good. Feed and sleep well generally. Any twinges??
Pink - Thinking of you. Glad you are getting some support.
Franni - So glad the consultant was able to put you at ease and you are happier about things.
Mc Mud - Lol at your DH reading how to deliver in a taxi.
Jonah - My little sis was very hairy when she was born, from her eyebrows up over her head and down her back. Still beautiful though.
Mrs W - Poor you and poor Jack. (Cool name by the way) What an awful ordeal to go through with your new baby. You must have been beside yourself. So glad everything is OK though.
Nogger - Hi to you and Isla.
Lippy - We still don't have the names agreed . I had them sorted but apparently forgot to check with DH and he has found out.
Hi Lua - Yay about the trousers already!!!
Well baby is very active at the mo so I am not expecting it any time soon. I have got over thinking every twinge is the start of something happily and now I am prepared to wait another week.
No real news I don't think. My ankles don't seem quite so bad at the moment....hips are def loosening up though. I was late for Musical Tots this morning and got all my friends excited lol. Thinking of you all. It is time for another baby I think.

mcmudda · 09/06/2005 13:47

Hi everyone,
still no baby - I'm officially overdue which is quite exciting in a way. I see the consultant tomorrow morning to discuss my "options". she doesn't want to go too far overdue because of my previous section and I don't want to be induced or have my labour accelerated by anything (drips etc) cos that'll pretty much lead to another section.

Megi - don't really know much about what you're going through, but I hope you're holding up ok as much as you can. I would pester them on the phone again for your results - often hospitals will have test results sitting on someone's desk and leave them until there's a minute to pass them back to the patient. All the best

Cooperoo · 09/06/2005 13:49

Oh Megi, what a nightmare for you. I would ring again and speak to someone else saying you are concerned and were told the results would be there today. I am sure all they mean by in progress is at the lab or something. Are they scanning you for these measurements they keep taking? Thinking of you and keep us posted. I am sure of they were really worried they would have you back in. Hoping for some action for you soon. Take care. x

Cooperoo · 09/06/2005 13:51

Sorry Megi - You said they were scanning you in your post [stupid emoticon].
Hi Mc Mud - Hoping for some action for you soon.

welshmum · 09/06/2005 14:03

hello all
Glad everything is ok with little jack Mrs W - all those tests - I really sympathise - there's nothing liek the medical proffesion being 'thorough' to freak you out. Hope thinkgs settle down now.
Nogger - you sound like you're having a lovely time - it's definitely easier the 2nd time around - if only I'd managed to be this chilled with dd
Lua - it's brill getting into the old clothes isn't it? Quite the most exciting thing that happens all day 2 weeks on and I can now get into several trousers and skirts from the old days - granted they're at the 'forgiving' end of the wardrobe - but who cares. That's got to be one of the best things about bfing your ute goes down like a deflating balloon.
Still thinking of everyone waiting the big day and wishing you all the best - we're keeping the June 2005 babies thread nice and warm for you - even those of us who had them in May - where else were we going to go really??? x

JonahB · 09/06/2005 14:11

Afternoon All,

Mrs Wed, it?s great to hear from you. I?m so sorry about all the tests poor little Jack has had to undergo. At least there is nothing wrong with him. I?m not surprised at all you were tearful. This is a stressful time enough without extra stress being thrown in!

Lua, good for you to be back in normal jeans so quickly . I hope you are all outside today, enjoying the lovely weather

Megi, big hugs to you, how upsetting.

Bubb, Mcmudda ? we can all be the ?officially overdue? club!!!! I'm 4 days overdue now and mightily p*ssed off about it. I'm trying all options again. DH and I tried AGAIN this morning (sorry, far TMI, you all know far too many details about my bedroom antics ) and tonight we are off for yet another curry. Please g-d, let something work.......

tribpot · 09/06/2005 14:24

Afternoon ladies.

MrsW, congratulations on the baby's name, I shall update the stats forthwith. What a shame about his hospital trip, glad that all's well in the end.

Megi - can't believe they are making you wait an extra few days, I would definitely phone your midwife and ask what's going on. I think "in progress" is just code for "we haven't bothered processing the swabs yet"

Coop - is the baby being active a sign that labour isn't imminent? Harrumph, there's no hope for my baby then.

Now, I need to check on the Junies' opinion of this. I had my midwife appointment this morning (38 weeks tomorrow) and the bump is measuring 40 cm, which is now outside the normal range. Actually the last measurement was outside the range as well but not as much. Mw has decided not to send me for a scan, apparently because the baby's not engaged yet (why not baby, come on already!) so the bump may shrink when it does. And anyway, apparently they can just assess whether it's too big for a normal delivery when I appear in labour .. or something. Has anyone else experienced this? I guess 40cm isn't that worrying, but to be honest, if there's going to be a size issue I'd rather know about it.

Jonah - laughing heartily at the idea of your little chimp. Let's hope said chimp decides to put in an appearance soon.

mcmudda · 09/06/2005 14:32

Trib- if it's any consolation - ds' bump was always 4-5cm larger than his dates and he was only 8lbs8oz - but he never engaged (even during labour hence emg-section grrr) so maybe that did have something to do with it. I was never given a scan either.

I'm only 5ft so maybe that's why a relatively big ds never engaged. Although this baby has and it's blimmin' painful in my pelvis - my heartburn's disappeared though as a result which is fab

They'll be worrying about disproportion ie does baby fit into your pelvis. What shoe size are you? I'm a 6 so should be fine. If you have ickle feet then your pelvis will be narrower too - although disproportion is really, really rare so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Loads of babies just can't be bothered to engage

tribpot · 09/06/2005 14:38

Thanks McMudda. I'm a shoe size 4 (well, normally - at the moment my feet are nearly as wide as they are long!) although I have been informed by Katz and Lua that I am not a hobbit after all (at 5'4") - it was just the after effects of living in Sweden and Holland that made me think I was freakishly short!

I'm certainly having all the aches and pains of the baby being engaged, which makes me v cross if he's actually still floating about freely but NCT bra-measuring lady did say she thought the bump was still quite high yesterday, ho hum.

mcmudda · 09/06/2005 14:40

At 5'4" to me you're practically an Elf

bubbaloo · 09/06/2005 14:46

trib-i was also told last week by midwife and by my gp on tuesday that the babys head hasnt engaged.they keep chenging their minds and blaming the fact thats its hard to tell because im overweight.surely i cant be the only fat person to ever have a baby so i've taken that with a pinch of salt.
both of them also said though, that his head doesnt have to be engaged to go into labour-that can happen afterwards so im not too bothered.im also fairly short at 5ft2" but have heard that if you have "big" feet its a good sign as it means your pelvis is a fair size too.mine are a 7-8 so lets hope there's some truth there, especially as im convinced he's going to be rather large.

jonah-we're also having an indian tonight(again!!)and if i can persuade dh,an early night too!!!

Lua · 09/06/2005 15:09

trib - DS was not engaged 4 hours before born (see gory details on birth announcement...) so I say, it means nothing... He also had the cord twice around his neck...
I think is good to know whether baby is big (i.e. larger than 4kg) so birth management can take that in account (i.e. not force baby through the canal with drip...). however estimatio of baby size this far is a bit cr*p....and mw is right that it may look bigger because not engaged... If it was me I woul push for a scan but take the results with a grain of salt...

jonah ds even have his ears covered with hair... - but he is a cute little chimp!!!

mrsflowerpot · 09/06/2005 15:19

Trib and Bubba - this is sort of what happened with me with ds. It will be pelvic disproportion they are concerned about I think - they will be wondering if the baby's head or shoulders are too big for your pelvis. If they do what they did with me, they will scan you and take measurements - the consultant also did some manipulation exercises (all external, don't panic!) to see whether he could tell if ds would be able to engage or not. The trouble is that it's really hard to tell whether the baby is too big, your pelvis is too small or whether the baby is just in a funny position. And of course if the baby is still free, then you will measure bigger. Whatever, it is better that you find this out in advance because it affects how they can deliver you, eg induction could have been quite dangerous with ds - also I was told that if my waters broke they would have monitored me more carefully if they are aware of this as a potential problem. They will only send you for a section if they really feel there is no chance of delivering naturally - I don't think there is anything to be lost by asking to go beyond your dates to see what happens.

DS never engaged at all and was very high still when he was delivered (I had an elective c-section). The consultant tells me that from the position he was in at delivery he doesn't think a section was avoidable, but he can't tell me if exactly the same thing will happen again. This baby hasn't engaged either so they are watching me closely again (back to consultant again tomorrow) in case it is the same problem. DS was delivered almost bang on 40 weeks, but this time I'm going to ask if I can go to 41 to give myself a shot of going into labour naturally, and then go straight to elective section if I haven't by then. I've said quite categorically that I'm not prepared to be induced given the circumstances with ds.

I have written this 3 times because I don't want to worry either of you! Just sometimes it helps to know what might be going through the midwife/doctor's mind. Hopefully you both have lovely small-headed babies who are just having too much fun bobbing around to engage.

bubbaloo · 09/06/2005 16:54

thanks for the info mrs f.

i've actually got an appointment next thursday(41wks)at the hospital, with the consultant to discuss induction etc...so if the baby hasnt made an appearence by then,i'll wait and see what the consultant says.at this stage no-one seems concerned that he hasnt engaged and the midwife hasnt said she thinks he's large-thats just what i think and my gp agreed.

wonder if lynny's had her baby yet-i cant remember if it was a c-section or induction she was having today.i'm sure we'll hear soon.maybe we need a nice new thread to get the ball rolling again!!

uwila · 09/06/2005 19:34

Hi everyone. Haven't posted much lately. A friend of mine recently told me that going from one child to two is like going from being a pet owner to a zoo keeper... so true! God Bless parents of twins is all I can say.

Anyway, I've lost track. Who's still waiting. I realise it's only the begining of June, but I think lots of us have popped.

I went to put some oh so cut pajamas on DS tonight and they barely fit... already. Gosh can't believe he's old enough to start outgrowing things.

Franniban · 09/06/2005 19:58

Evening girls.
Mrs W, sorry to hear about Monday, very distressing. Still at least Jack's nice and healthy.
I've been to the midwife today, and this babies not engaged either, must be something in the air. MW even suggested not to expect the baby next week as she felt it was too high at the moment. Great! It's interesting to read other peoples experiences with this one, it puts your mind at rest.
Feeling absolutley knackered today, really wishing I didn't feel like that as it's difficult to keep patient with ds. Still we had the paddling pool out in the garden today for the first time and he loved it, very cute!
Megi, I can feel my blood pressure rising! People are so dismissive, and it's unneccesary. Hope that you get the results soon and it's ok.
Must go, as dinner is ready and I think its eat and crash. Glass of red may help too!
Night night all X

PinkArjuna · 09/06/2005 20:09

Oh Megi I hope you are ok, I'm quite concerned as you are due the same day as me. I'll await hearing that everything is ok

Not much news - frantically reading two books at once.

Bit miffed I could have gone to the Tori Amos concert but saying that I am so uncomfortable now I am not too sure if I would have liked all the trains and standing around. Oh well.

luckylady · 09/06/2005 20:22

Still lurking-
Franniban - when I had ds last June he had disengaged a couple of days before i was due because of my circumstances I was given a sweep but told it probably wouldn't work as cervix too thick, baby too high and no dilation -however had show the following morning at 7.30ish then mild contractions allday, went to the hospital at 6 pm (had to go to be monitered as attempting VBAC) delivered DS next morning at 4.23am in three pushes. I know I keep saying this but it really does feel like yesterday.

Anyway pointis things could still happen within the week for you.

Fingers crossed for all of you yet to deliver.
Labour vibes sent to all off you
Take care
x

Cooperoo · 10/06/2005 06:02

Morning all,
Just popping in to say hello. Sorry some of you are having last minute worries. AFAIK the baby engaging doesn't make too much difference as to when you go into labour, although psychologically it is reassuring (at least for me) that things are moving the right way. I find it very uncomfortable though so don't wish for it too soon in a way .
Trib - It is suggested that babies slow their movements down a bit before they are born in preparation for the energy needed I suppose. I didn't notice it last time though so another thing to be taken with a pinch of salt. If I have learnt anything about having babies from research and this site it is that pregnancy and childbirth is no exact science and certainly is different for everyone.
DH announced yesterday that perhaps he ought to have a list of things to take to the hospital too. LOL I have had a list written for him for three weeks. At least he is thinking about it now, just when I am relaxing and thinking the baby will be overdue and arrive in a week or so. (not due till Mon anyway). I am determined that we should get the names sorted this weekend. Fingers crossed.
Have good days all. Hope we will hear from Lee today or tomorrow....

megi · 10/06/2005 08:20

Thanks everyone for being sympathetic yestersday! - I ended up phoning my own midwife who I have not seen for ages because she only works out of my GP's surgery on a Friday - and beacause I keep having to go for extra monitoring and stuff I tend to see my GP instead cos she is there more often! - I couldn't get hold of my exact named midwife - but I spoke to somebody SOOO much nicer who understood completely why I was upset.- She looked again at the results and said that so far there is nothing there! - Only white blood cells which are normal! - She did say that the culture had not quite finished growing - but she doubted that anything would show up! - Feel so much better now! She thinks I am having a show which is coming away in very small amounts. I am still a tad worried cos there has been quite a bit there - but feel better!
Hope everyone else is ok!
Coop - I think I will be a week over-due as well - so maybe we will be around the same time - as I am due on Sun!

Cooperoo · 10/06/2005 10:43

Megi - Glad to hear that you have managed to clarify things with a midwife to take you seriously. It is so important especially at this stage of your pregnancy. As long as the baby is still active I would try to relax....hard I know. Our Junie babies seems to arrive all at once so perhaps you will be right and ours will arrive together .

bubbaloo · 10/06/2005 10:46

morning all,

well i'm officially in the late club now-still wondering when he's going to make an appearence.dh is hoping he'll turn up at the weekend so he'll have a full 2 weeks off work but my guess will be when dh's at the dentist on tuesday-ha ha!!

megi-so pleased your'e feeling better today and re-assured after talking to the midwife.must be a huge worry not really understanding whats happening so im glad she's put your mind at rest.

hi coop-what was you thinking of packing for your dh? i did sort of mention it to mine(as i didnt want to leave him out!)but then i wondered if it was really neccessary.then again,it probably is a good idea especially as you don't know how long your'e going to be at the hospital for.think i'll pack him a t-shirt and a pair of boxers!
actually im really embarassed as i've already got a suitcase for the baby,a suitcase for me AND a large holdall of food packed.i did say to dh that when we go to the hospital it might be worth leaving the baby's bag in the boot of the car to start with rather than walk in with 3 bags.

hi franni.

uwila-nice to hear from you.hopefully there will be more of us other the other side to join you shortly.wow, alex sounds like he's coming along a treat.

hope everybody else is ok.it's getting very quiet on this thread lately-hopefully it's a good sign and maybe things are moving.

Cooperoo · 10/06/2005 11:18

Hi bubb.
Dh's list is more things I feel he should be responsible for ie camcorder, food, water, camera, spare T-shirt (I was sick all over DH last time), shorts (it is hot in those maternity wards), phone number list, mobile, etc.
I have packed a separate 'labour bag' with all my essentials and first nappy and vest for the baby so that we only have to take this bag in this time. It is a big rucksack bag though. Babies bag and my other bag will stay in the car till after birth (if needed as we are hoping for a quick turnaround.). Last time Dh looked like a bag lady once they had piled him with the Bounty freebies etc and we had to 'borrow' an extra midwife to walk with us to the post natal ward just for our bags. .
I know what you mean about the baby arriving when DH has his dentist appt. There is another rumour that the UK staffed clinic may be up and running by Thursday next week so I can almost guarantee my baby will come on Wednesday... I have stopped the raspberry leaf tea again and I am going to have some wine this weekend as someone told me it is a suppressant for labour...and my feet will be remaining well and truly up!

tribpot · 10/06/2005 11:32

Oof Coop, I hope wine isn't a suppressant for labour, I shall be most dis-chuffed Still, for your sake I hope you can lie flat on your back til next Thursday, you just never know!

Just a quickie message from me today as I am feeling completely crappy - dizzy, nauseated, exhausted and tearful. Response from dh was "it's the hormones" and then he went back to sleep. Ho hum. I think I will see if I can too.

Hope all are doing well, and that we have some news from Lynny soon!
